Practical and—at times—unexpected advice on how to release anxiety delivered by inspirational speaker, number one New York Times best seller, and self-described super attractor Gabby Bernstein in a live talk recorded at the Minetta Lane Theater.
It’s not just you. Stress levels are at an all-time high—so much so that a recently convened panel of medical experts in the US has recommended that all adults under the age of 65 be screened for anxiety.
In How to Release Anxiety, Gabby Bernstein offers simple, actionable steps for feeling better, living with more ease, and showing up for those around us. Gabby’s unusual advice: Rather than manage your anxiety, what if you befriended it? Gabby posits that what we befriend, we can ultimately be at ease with. So she invites us to get curious. Ask our anxiety what it wants. And then be compassionate as we listen to the answer.
In addition, Gabby offers experiential lessons for dealing with anxiety. She guides listeners in meditation, breathing techniques, Internal Family Systems practices, and tapping (EFT)—all resulting (within minutes!) in the kind of calmness and connection that displaces anxiety.
This 90-minute Audible Original is a helpful, speedy remedy for the anxiety so omnipresent in our lives. Full of relatable, personal examples—Gabby is all-too human, too!—How to Release Anxiety provides a welcoming, user-friendly approach to our all-too common, completely unproductive reaction to stress.

Gabrielle Bernstein intrigues me, I've read/listened to a couple of her books, (which have been hit-or-miss) but I'm not sure I'm her target audience. Saying that, this Audible production was very good. Anxiety is a big problem and here she sums up some helpful tips and tricks. Meditation and EFT tapping are great, she gives an introduction and examples of use, definitely worth a listen if not familiar with these techniques and are interested in a basic holistic approach, whether you suffer from anxiety or not.
What an amazing audible! This is in the form of a ted talk and I highly recommend that everyone listen to. I don’t consider myself a particularly anxious person, but the tools she gives really work if you apply them. There are several exercises and examples given that can be applied in real time. You should listen to this book before bed and/ or when you can dedicate your focus to it. I did the examples in real time and could feel the physical effects. I am thrilled to be able to apply these in real time and make them a habit as I move forward in life.
Genuinely helpful. She gives you some really useful tools and things to help when feeling anxious or overwhelmed. I'd listen to it again for sure. This is free on audible and I'd definitely recommend it.
3.5 stars — This was honestly entertaining and helpful! She gives practical tools and advice, bringing a good energy to the discussion while still explaining the severity of anxiety.
This was a very practical audible original. I appreciated how everything was accessible and done immediately in the moment. I don’t feel like there was anything really groundbreaking here, everything was common suggestions from a therapist, but it’s nice to have a neat compilation. I didn’t like the format of this also being a talk. At a few points I felt like she showing the room of people things she was not describing well verbally. Having a double audience makes everything more difficult and I think the audible listeners ended up being a secondary audience.
I think this was very helpful and relatable. She gave helpful tools/techniques to ease anxiety. But what she said in the last 7 mins was what stopped me in my tracks literally, and what I found most helpful was her comment “Anxiety is what keeps us from facing the trauma”. Which to me means, if I can begin to calm my anxiety, I can be present enough to begin to deal with my trauma. Because “trauma is the inability to be present”.
A very generic talk overall but she has a good point when she says that anxiety and creativity cannot exist together. That basically goes to the point that whenever you feel anxious you need to get creative with your time, which in turn will engage your mind and help you clear the bad thoughts and energy. It’s nothing new or groundbreaking really, people who have been striving with anxiety on a daily basis know this practice all too well.
This had so many helpful tips and little nuggets of amazingness ! I will be putting so many of the tips and exercises into my daily routine. My favorite part of it was when she said take care of internal self as you would care for your child. Or in the way you wish you were cared for as a child. ❤️ healing my inner child and learning to give myself grace and the permission to release stuff I don’t need to worry about constantly.
Upon choosing 'How to Release Anxiety' from the Audible Plus catalogue, I didn't realise this was a live recording from a prior ticketed event. While the content of the book was good - and I definitely did learn some tips and tricks to manage my own anxiety - I found the format and structure a little off-putting. That being said, this was a good taster for Bernstein's other writings and books, which I'll definitely keep an eye out for.
Short and to the point. I really appreciate that it was very straight forward and she shared practical techniques without going too deep into the reason of why they work. If you want to study these techniques even further you may do so, but this book is just what the name promises “How to release anxiety”.
So glad I came across this when I'm trying to quit my Diet Coke/caffeine addiction (again). I've got blinding headaches and feel on edge, and this audio-guide definitely helped today. I've been skeptical about EFT tapping but Bernstein's guided advice on tapping totally made me feel better.
I took a lot of great coping mechanisms away from this talk. As a person who has a lot of anxiety moments I find it hard to listen to suggestions that actually work for me - a lot of the practices she goes over we’re easy to learn, use and we’re successful.
lots of tips to cope with anxiety... -Soothe yourself in minutes using 5 simple techniques -Understand what your anxiety really needs to be set free -Design a sleep routine to help you get more peaceful rest -Become a grounding presence for everyone around you
How to Release Anxiety by Gabrielle Bernstein. Stress and anxiety… what to do when they’re keeping you from enjoying life and how to know when they’re helpful. Ways to deal with them. Book 61 for 2023
I once read that the best way to overcome your “demons” is to make friends with them: one way to manage anxiety may be this. I haven't tried it but it's one more thing to try.
The same can be done with pain, fear and other “demons”. With other demons it has worked for me.
Fantastic follow up choice for The Untethered Soul. If the TUS gave us the principles, this gives us the tools. My biggest takeaway is that we should acknowledge anxiety and ask it what it needs. Talk to it like an old friend, because it's really only there to protect us.
The Q&A at the end far surpasses the somewhat generic content of the main part of the book which does not appear to break new ground but just summarizes what we may have gleaned from other sources on this topic. The depth and detail provided by the Q&A is well addressed and useful
