He made a bet that he could get a date with the Queen of Covington Prep
He didn’t think he’d fall for her for real…
RAINE
It’s the chance of a lifetime
My band is asked to play at a concert for Covington Prep students,
That school for rich kids across the river
I make a stupid bet
that I can get the Queen of Covington to go on a date with me
The thing is, she’s so far out of my league
But if I lose,
Well, let’s just say I can’t lose…
Because I’ll have to face my demons
BIANCA
I’m envied because everyone thinks I have it all
They call me the Queen Bee
But I don’t reign over anything, not even my life
That’s been mapped out for me
Prep school, Ivy League college, law school,
Join the family business.
The boy in the band is from River Valley High
They’re the kids from the other side of town
The ones we don’t mix with
But Raine makes me feel different
He opens my world up
The one I feel caged in
Until I learn that I was just a bet…
Two worlds collide when Covington Prep meets River Valley High in this sweet Teen & YA romance about Raine, the wannabe rock rap guitarist and Bianca, the preppy Homecoming Queen.
I enjoyed this book it was definitely good. I liked how Bianca didn’t care that Raine on the other side of the tracks. Plus her sticking up for herself with Addison was also good. Because that girl was just horrible to everybody. Including Bianca if you really think about it.
Plus I’m glad her parents didn’t say anything about her dating Raine. Maybe it had something to do with how good Raine and his band was and plus her father was into music. I think her mom was a bit on the ruin your day side. But choose not to say anything.
Because Bianca father liked Raine and got to enjoyed being on stage with him and his band.
Plus do I see Keegan maybe liking Ebony because something going on there. I think he trying to lose weight as well because he wasn’t eating anything or drinking anything but water. That would be interesting to read if that’s who the next book going to be about…
This is book five of the Covington Prep: The Girls We Love series and this one features Queen Bee of Covington Prep (called the Stripers), Bianca Holbrun, and from the other side of the river, Raine Badderly who goes to River Valley High (called the ‘Arvees’) and started a rap rock band in fifth grade. He plays guitar and writes most of the songs for the band, but only supplies the backing vocals, not wanting all the limelight and attention on him. The band is in yet another mix of people, with two having left for college last year. Now they have a girl in the band, Ebony on bass, his best friend Keegan on drums and Corey as the lead singer. They have only played a few gigs, mostly at Halo, a café in River Valley, but normally only got paid in snacks. Through his sister Jade, the band have been given their first proper gig at a girl called Beth’s birthday party up at the Whittaker Estate, performing after the well-known duo T&J played. The kids they were playing for weren’t exactly their kind of people and so they were all really nervous, but once they got on stage, they forgot all of it and enjoyed playing their songs. Afterwards, one of the mums, Laura, the party organizer came and paid them and even gave them a bonus! Off to the side of the stage was Bianca, trying to ignore her supposed friend Addison, who was also having a birthday party that night, which everyone had ignored in favour of seeing T&J in the flesh. She has begun to realise just how false Addison can be and is trying to separate herself from her and her behaviour, without making an enemy out of her for the remainder of the school year! When Laura sees her, she calls her forward and Bianca has to pretend she wanted to congratulate the band, but when Raine flicks his hair so she can see into his eyes, she is mesmerised and can hardly look away. His bandmates noticed the pretty blonde girl talking to him and rib him a bit as they go to the other party afterwards and Raine ends up making a bet with them that he can get Bianca to go out with him! Never mind that they are from two different worlds and don’t ever mix. When they get matched for the first game of the party, it seems to be a perfect chance to get to know more about each other and enjoy the night. But when they get back to the others, she automatically slips into the behaviour expected from her group and disses Raine and his band members. He has to leave and take a bandmate home after he overindulges and doesn’t get the chance to speak to Bianca. Luckily, Ebony stayed behind with some of her friends and passed the message on to Bianca, about where and when the band were next playing. If Raine doesn’t get a date with her, he will be forced to sing lead for his own songs, in a few weeks’ time! Bianca is upset Raine didn’t say goodnight, but is looking forward to going to Halo and seeing him and the band perform, not that she seems to be able to forget him. Shame she had to listen to Addison complain about everyone at the party, the morning after. Bianca was supposedly the Queen Bee at Covington Prep, but it seemed like Addison was the true leader and she was only her follower. She needed to break that chain, but isn’t quite sure how to do it. Raine and Bianca are pulled together again when she looks him up to return his faux leather jacket and she gets to see how a real family lives. It’s messy, lived in and comfortable, completely the opposite to her regimented life. Her parents expect her to study law like her older sister, but she is beginning to realise how another line of study interests her far more and which she seems to be excellent at and drawn to. Like Raine is with his music. He can’t stop making up rhymes and songs about her and gets some new and quite different songs done before their next session at Halo. Keegan finds him practising and helps him finish them off. It is different to what they usually play, but they have been playing lots of Christmas songs for the upcoming holidays and it doesn’t hurt to have something else prepared. Another disappointment when she doesn’t turn up for their next gig, but she as a good reason. A date is finally on the cards and he can almost forget about the bet, until some classmates of his, spill the beans in her hearing. He has blown it and it is his own fault! He should have a way with words with the number of songs he writes, but finds himself stumbling over the simplest of apologies. A second chance to prove himself comes their way with an unexpected gig and he may find himself having to conquer his greatest fear, if he wants to win the girl of his dreams! A few surprises along the way and a not so rigid future may well be on the cards. Nice to see the HEA ending for these two, after they make some of the usual teenage errors and struggle to admit their feelings. Not knowing how to cope with friends you have outgrown, or the school bully, can be a terrifying prospect at that age and needing to decide upon a future path is even more daunting. Thankfully, both main characters have their own dreams upmost in their desires and will work hard to make sure they can achieve them. Lots of familiar faces and good to be back and see differences between the two sides of the town, are able to come together with music and explore their differences. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Do you like rich girl/poor boy romances? How about preppy meets punk? Musician and valedictorian? Well, then, here's a book for you! Raine and Bianca have a few mountains to climb and it's fun to go on the trip! Book 5 of the series, all included in KU. It's also a crossover between Covington Prep and River Valley High so good news, you have a lot of YA books to check out!
- do you like long hair on guys? - so many song lyrics! Imagine if you always thought in lyrics. - whew. Addison. She's a lot. - I don't understand the queen bee but not really the queen bee situation. The whole mean leader of the group dynamic has always alluded me. I tend to steer clear of mean people - he is so flustered. 😅 - dating bets = bad. Although they do seem to work out in the end 🤷♀️ - are you good at picturing the characters? I know Raine has long hair but in my mind, it's a clean short cut haha - I like Laura Caversham - good news, the dads warm up - sweet ending - double epilogue??
Quick opposites attract/wrong side of the river romance. Raine is in a band called The Bad and they are playing Beth’s birthday party. You may remember it from the book before this one but this book shows the party from Raine and Bianca’s POV. Raine is in a band from River Valley High while Bianca is from Covington Prep. She’s considered the Queen Bee even though she didn’t give off that vibe. She’s supposed to be best friends with Addison but has noticed how cruel Addison has became this year. I was glad when she started pulling away from Addison and managed to stand up to her. Raine doesn’t think Bianca would go out with him so his friend makes a bet with him. Unfortunately things don’t go as smoothly as Raine would have liked. I really enjoyed this story and how much these characters cared for each other. I’m glad that everyone was supportive in the end and that Bianca was able to stand up to her parents about what she wanted in life.
Unexpected couple crossover, the rich and the not so rich, Bianca and Raine were wonderful together. It was such a fun book with the simple plot that twisted and turned in its own ways into a beautiful story. I loved the tensions the characters faced and how they were able to overcome them. Bianca was a wonderful person and she was able to grow out of what she was forced to be with Raine. Raine grew more into the person he could be and became a much better, happier person with Bianca.
They meet at a party where Raine is the lead singer of an up and coming band and Bianca an attendee. They are assigned to a treasure hunt together and slowly become friends. Push leads to shove and their feelings grow for each other as they face the force of their peers, miscommunication and familial pressure.
I received a review copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I liked the characters and that they had their own friends and goals and issues. Wasn't boring either but....as a romance it was seriously lacking. 2 star for the romance. I mean, 50% into it and they hasnt even really talked. Then they go on ONE date, and don't talk again until 86% of the book!🙀 Even then they don't really start dating until the epilogue 😂 It's a bit crazy how into Bianca Raine was seeing as.....he didn't really even know her. She didn't seem AS into him, but she did think about him a lot. But that wasn't enough to = chemistry in my opinion. Again, though I liked how Bianca was coming out of Addison's circle and figuring herself out. So still giving it a 3 😊
Bianca is the popular girls, the Queen Bee, pretty, rich and with her future figure it out. Or so it seems. But when she meets Raine, a guitarist with his own band, long hair, living in the other side of River Valley she start to question her life and her choices. Can she follow her dreams with band boy? Sweet and heartwarming
I would not have predicted that the story would come. But I think things were handled in a good way. Admittance of mistakes and trying to fit in. It was a fun juxtaposition. I look forward to more from this author.
