Covington Prep: The Girls We Love #4
The Heiress
A boy with broken dreams.
A girl who can help him soar
I’ve lived a life of luxury, a charmed life, Daddy’s princess in a world of global corporations. But in a complete turnaround, my parents send me to Covington Prep, a private school in the small town of River Valley. Incognito, quiet, a chance to live a normal life out of the spotlight. And no, I’m not happy being separated from my family.
In order to survive my senior year, my plan is to keep to myself. But I gain a reputation as the ice queen, aloof and reserved, and though I wasn’t looking for friends, my intention wasn’t to make enemies either. But there seems to be a growing list of kids who don’t like me. And when I nearly knock down Phoenix Carter, I’m pretty sure I can add his name to it.
Phoenix uses crutches, he’s learning to walk again. And now that I’m forced to spend Thanksgiving weekend with his family, I see the battles Phoenix has to face every day, the dreams he’s trying to hang on to. And while nothing in my life is going as I hoped, he’s going through way worse.
I thought freezing everyone out was the best thing, but something happens when I’m around Phoenix. I start to melt, I soften…
But how do I get Phoenix to see the real me?

okay read
https://ladiikeiii.wordpress.com/2022...
***spoilers little here and there***
It wasn’t like the others I’ve read. This one was an okay book. I was glad to see that Phoenix got back to himself from what happened in the accident. I do wonder if his dad still continued on with the law suit or whatever. I hope not because that father of his seem like a mean person.
But I understand him as well especially with hurting someone you love that could’ve died. I know that feeling and know how that feels. I was glad that Phoenix walked away and his mom told him that she was handling it.
Not only that I was glad that Elisha stuck it to Addison in the end because both Addison and her mom are some mean individuals.

This is book four of the Covington Prep: The Girls We Love and the main characters are Phoenix Carter and Elisha Sakkari–Millar. Her parents suddenly gave her a few days’ notice of the fact they were sending her to the school and they were off travelling, with her mother and grandmother already off on their way to London. Her parents told her they wanted her to experience a normal teenager’s life and have some of the same experiences, out of the spotlight, without her wealth and true identity being known. She is not happy at all with being suddenly sent here, away from her parents and doesn’t know what is wrong for them to send her away and not allow her to go with them like usual. Elisha has been sent to board at the private school, staying in Whitney Hall with all the other boarders, lucky to at least have her own room as a senior, but having to share a bathroom. She is used to a life of luxury, coming from a very wealthy family, as her father owns a large number of companies and is a billionaire. She has never had to do her own dishes or laundry and soon has to learn. She decides to punish her parents by turning her phone off, so they can’t contact her and doesn’t even take it to school with her. The only other senior in the halls is Beth, who tries to make friends with her, but Elisha knocks her aside and lives up to her new nickname of the Ice Queen! She even runs into Phoenix by accident, entering the school, and tries to apologise for almost knocking him off his crutches, but everyone else around seems to think she did it deliberately!
He is still working on recovery from a broken pelvis, after being involved in a car crash when his mother lost control whilst on the phone to a client. She was distracted and had only minor injuries, but has felt a huge weight of guilt ever since. She isn’t eating and has lost so much weight that Phoenix is suddenly realising how badly she is coping after the crash, having concentrated on his own recovery and being harsh with her himself, blaming her for what has happened to his dreams of a tennis career. Even his best friend Max Saunders stopped playing tennis after his accident, blaming himself for not picking up Phoenix, as he was supposed to, having slept in after a late night! At least now, he has started again with the influence of his girlfriend Taylor, who attends the school on a tennis scholarship. She has the sort of focus and determination Phoenix had and both are a great help with his getting back to the court and hitting balls together. Elisha thought her best plan would be to keep to herself and not get involved in any activities, but that is difficult with events being arranged in the hall by the house mother there. Now Thanksgiving is coming up and Elisha had been counting down the days until she could go back home and see her parents. But her father has the unhappy news that they are going away and she will have to stay at the school. Those boarders staying during the holidays are usually put up by local families of other students, but she doesn’t want to go and stay with strangers, so books herself into the local hotel. She turns her phone off to further punish her parents, but gets in a mess when her father tries to check up on her host family and then the house mother has to track her down!
Phoenix’s mum is at the hotel and offers to take her in for the weekend, as Phoenix is supposed to be away at his father’s house. But when he gets very disturbing and unwelcome news from his father regarding his accident and his chances of ever playing competitive tennis again, he storms off and drives back home! His mum takes to Elisha straight away and Phoenix has to try and warn her off the ice queen, but he soon finds another side of her, her real side, as she somehow makes his mother start to enjoy life and even make an effort to eat properly again. He comes to realise that part of his mother’s self-punishment is down to her feeling guilty, but the largest part is believing that he could never forgive her. She can’t forgive herself unless he does! Elisha begins to melt and soften her attitude around Phoenix, seeing how much worse off he is than her and it makes her realise how badly she has been treating her parents, especially since she has no idea why they sent her away in the first place. Elisha and Phoenix get close as he starts hitting balls on court and she helps him by putting some old coaching to practice hitting it back to him! Not that she will ever be anywhere close to his level. They both get their wires crossed about each other’s feelings for the other and it results in a few hiccups. She starts to make an effort when she gets back to the halls and makes friends with Beth, finding out her 18th birthday is soon. It is a chance to show her new or real side to one and all, even the school bully Addison, whilst getting closer with Phoenix, Max, Taylor and Beth. Both will be better people around those they love, with all they have learnt from each other and the situations they found themselves in. Another HEA ending for a new couple at the school and a step in the right direction for Phoenix and his tennis future. Nice to finally see Phoenix getting his story told and finding love. An easy to read teenage romance, with so much more as the teens rail against their parents and finding forgiveness easier to deal with, as each sees the problems in the others life and come to realise how much their parents mean to them. I received an ARC of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I highly enjoy Kylie Key's stories, especially when she takes characters that feel unfixable and mends them. This story was a great example of such. Phoenix is broken physically after a car crash halts his tennis playing dreams. But even though he is determined to overcome his current physical limitations, it's the emotional ones that may be harder to let go. Especially, since he still blames his mother for the wreck.
Elisha is used to a privileged life, that is what comes from being an heiress. So, why do her parents want her to experience something so trivial as normalcy, what good will that do her. Feeling abandoned and alone she seems to isolate herself, gaining a reputation as cold as ice. But is she punishing her parents or herself?
When Elisha comes to stay at Phoenix's home through Thanksgiving break, both learn they may have misread the other. And they may be just what each other needs to fix what once felt unfixable.
This truly was an enjoyable read, with emotional depth that Kylie is great at bringing out. If you want a wonderful weekend read, with some emotional ache and HEA end pick this one up today!

I was so excited to finally read Phoenix’s story!
We have all read about Phoenix from the beginning but now you get to see it from his POV, the new girls POV, and even his mothers in one chapter.
Phoenix was a star tennis player and his dream was to go to Wimbledon. Unfortunately he was in an accident and broke his pelvis. He had to have plates and screws put in which meant he had to learn how to walk again and then relearn how to play tennis.
Elisha is the new girl deemed the Ice Queen. She was against going away to the academy and definitely didn’t want to make friends. She couldn’t go home for Thanksgiving so she eventually ends up staying with Phoenix and his mom Laura. They are struggling with the accident and adjusting to life again while Elisha is struggling with being away from her family.
I loved how in the end they were all able to help each other. That tennis brought them together and being honest brought them together. That party sounded like a great time and we definitely saw some character development. I do wish we could have seen more of Elisha’s family at the end; I felt like her situation kinda got cut off.

Solid 4 stars
Honestly, I was all set to give this a 3. It was okay, but not exactly a romance. Elisha really was kind of a brat (unintentionally) to people because she was upset, and that didn't exactly change for a good 60% of the book!
Phoenix wasn't all that much better. What he did to his mom was understandable but a bit cruel.
But I have to give it to Key, she can really write if she made it turn around for me in the last 35% of the story. I didn't feel the chemistry between Phoenix and Elisha but once they got together they were just adorable! Haha
Elisha really turned things around with her dormmates and classmates and it showed. Phoenix also had a heart to heart with his mom and really got to work getting better instead of moping. His friends were so supportive and understanding and I just love their entire friendship group 😍
Also, plus side....Addison got put in her place 😼😹

August 24, 2026This is Pheonix's and Elishas story.
Pheonix has been learning to do everything again as he recovers from a car accident, being the source of moving forward for many of his peers. On top of all that he has to deal with his divorced parents, not to mention his mom is partly responsible for his accident. With his dad being very negative about the trajectory of his life he is down in the dumps, plus the fact that the 'Ice Queen' of the school is staying at his place for a weekend his day can't get any worse. But the so called Ice Queen isn't all she seems, she has her own battles to deal with and she learns that maybe her life isn't so bad as she thinks it is.

It was so interesting to see the difference between Phoenix and Elisha's lives, how there problems were so different, yet similar. I would've loved to see more about Elisha's family and their situation.
I also loved Max and Taylor in this book since they're the OG couple. I'm excited to read the next two books but I'm sad they're not related to any of the main characters, especially Millie and Tenn.

Phoenix is broken after his accident. He doesn’t know if he will be able to play tennis again, he barely can walk. Elisha is new in town. Staying in boarding school her last year of High School, away from her parents and friends. Can two broken souls help each other face their demons, fight for their future and find happiness and love? A great love and life story

I grabbed this book and totally indulged myself by devouring it. I love an incognito storyline, and while this one is different than any others I’ve read, I liked it just as much. It’s been a long time coming for Phoenix’s story and I adored it.
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Do you like romance books to have a big falling out or do you like them to fight through things together?
Honestly, I'm here for either. And somehow, in a confusing twist, I feel like this book has both.
Do you like rich girls, tennis, boarding school, hidden identities and sweet kisses? If so, I think this book should be added to your list.

This is a great story! Loved Phoenix and his battle to get back to playing, and how things played out with his mom. Elisha was a fun character, a girl trying to find her place at a new school. Really enjoyable story, and the writing, as always, is excellent.

Loved this book. I liked the characters, the plot, just the whole thing. It obviously wasn't perfect but when I think back to reading it I smile so that says something.

This was such a cute novel. I loved seeing Elisha and Phoenix’s romance. Elisha was so closed up and I really enjoyed seeing the way she became a better person with Phoenix. Phoenix is such a great guy and it’s been amazing seeing his progress from the start of this series. I love these cute romances and can’t wait to read the next book.

Oh come ON, this book was just adorable!! I expected a really simple read, but Elisha and Phoenix were just so good together.
I love how optimistic Phoenix was about his situation, and this book is great for those who want a happy story because it doesn't go too in depth about the harsh realities of his situation; well, not in a crazy emotional way. I also LOVE Phoenix's mum and Elisha's character growth is so wholesome, she's like a completely different person at the end (in a good way).
I will say at the start it was a bit hard to actually feel for the characters, but you get used to it and they truly both compliment each other brilliantly. Kylie Key and her books are honestly so underrated, it has a couple cliche moments, but honestly here is nothing wrong with a cheesy, feel good story.
Honestly, a lot of the dislike both the characters have for each other was at the start of the book, and the 'problem' towards the end was solved fairly quickly - which I personally didn't mind since the beginning kind of made up for it (you'll understand, you just need to read it!!!).
I recommend reading this if you're a fan of Alexandra Moody or just want a sweet light hearted read. 🩷
