Self-published author of Non-Fiction Kindle books, Short story Fiction Kindle books, and Children's picture books. I also create Audiobook versions for most of my books.
The author goes into a breakdown of what each vitamin can do for your body. He talks about the benefits of a runner taking a multivitamin each day and why it's important. Being a runner himself who wanted to learn the best way to keep his body going and in shape to do what he loves, he wrote this book to give that information to other runners like himself. He then goes on to tell you that although you need certain vitamins, especially to keep running, there can be dangers, like too much of something in your body (like iron).
So the author gives you a supplement, talks about not only the benefits but also the dangers, the studies behind it, and then gives a conclusion
He talks about the multivitamin, omega 3 fish oils, glucosamine and chondroitin, turmeric and curcumin, MSM, and so many others.
He covers supplements for inflammation, energy, immunity, gut health, and much more. He even has a chapter where he dives into caffeine and the positive and negative effects of it.
I really loved that every chapter would have one supplement, talk about what that supplement is, where it's found and then it would go into not only the benefits of it but the dangers and then give you the proof of studies behind it and then wrap it all up in the conclusion. There wasn't just a jump from point A and then to Z, and he gave a lot of information on each supplement that everyone should know and take into consideration before trying.
If I were a runner, this is something I would want to have at my disposal to refer to and help me make choices that will impact my health all around. The author did his homework and was willing to share it with others who love the same thing he does.
My favorite chapter had to have been the protein section, though, as it broke down every kind for protein: soy, egg, whey, casein, and plant based protein. I found this chapter very informative and interesting not only for runners but for the everyday life of someone who just wants to eat right.
Very useful book where the author writes about the different supplements available plus the benefits, the dangers and studies done by different research groups and professionals. He really put some work into this book compiling all this information into an easy to read book. It really breaks down which the supplements and the effects on your running taking into consideration your diet, your lifestyle and your body type. I never knew there was so much supplements around, and to find all of them listed in one book makes it easier for me to develop my own plan and for when I am buying my vitamens. It would have been cool is he recommended some vitamens supplements or a multivitamins which has more than one ingredients in it because not many people buy singular stuff when exercising and running. But overall a great review book to go back to for different issues and to understand your body better. For me it gets confusing sometimes all these vitamens thrown at me and recommended to me and with this book I can now go and read for myself and figure out stuff myself. The author really placed a lot of research into this book and I commend him for this. I don’t mind buying a paperback version of it since I am trying to get myself back into shape.
I really like the introduction to this book. It does a good job explaining what’s wrong with the supplement industry and explains how to go about researching what you need. It does this in a brief manner, so the book is not trying to sell itself and there is no filler. The body of the book talks about each supplement individually. What the supplement is and natural ways to get in are discussed. Easy to read pros and cons are discussed. And, in what is probably the most impressive part of this book, real research is discussed. This is done in a clear and concise way, but the author seems to understand how to identify the key parts of the studies. Overall, I really liked this book. It’s not selling anything, but it will teach you how to be an informed shopper. You’ll learn things about supplements you’ve probably already heard of and learn about supplements you didn’t know about. I think all runners would benefit from having this around as a reference book. I have no complaints about this book. But I would love to see the author break down muscle building supplements in a similar way. I highly recommend this book for runners.
