I received an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.
Overall Rating: 3.5/5 stars!
Cthulhu Mating Frenzy 2.5/5 - This was a short start to the anthology. Chaos was dreading the annual mating ritual for his kind, but someone unexpected ends up tagging along this year, shaking things up. The offer/sacrifice he made for his friend, Tula, was beyond sweet, but due to it, the storyline and spice felt lacking. I realize this is a prelude, but the continuation of the story was needed. Overall, it felt rushed and too short.
Stolen by the Dragon 4/5 - This was HOT. Once again left unsatisfied by her slut-shaming boyfriend, the FMC takes a spicy solo-swim, only to be joined by someone else. Someone who has tentacles. The possessiveness and tentacle action were top notch. Overall, I just wished it were longer and for there to be more relationship development between the two.
My Monster 5/5 - This was spicy and sweet! I loved that Raith was possessive but still supportive of Angel's need to communicate with and be accepted by his family. Also, the incorporation of Spanish and praise was something that I didn't know I needed (thank you for adding the translations, too).
Tailed to Get Nailed 5/5 - This is the second story I've read from Nessie Sreil, and I am overly impressed with the world building she can incorporate in such a brief time, and in a spicy romance, nonetheless. I was engaged in the politics of the world without it overwhelming the romance aspect. I loved the banter between Andra and Inves, and I also appreciated the reference to Lisette from Stitched to Get Hitched! The spice was *chef's kiss*.
Kept by the Kraken 4/5 - I adored Shelly and Rosh. Shelly is a lovable mess, and Rosh is the career-focused Kraken who needs a wedding date. Fake relationship? Fated mates? Sign me up!
Destination Monster Wedding 3.5/5 - Claire was a relatable character with her insecurities, but at some point, she just became a lot. I love a good plus size FMC, but Claire's self-deprecating personality was never-ending, even after Haru constantly built her up and told her how sexy he found her. Haru was the star of this story. He never once made Claire feel bad about herself, he stood up for her when needed, and he absolutely adored her.
Date Night with the Kraken 2/5 - The story had a good concept, but the characters fell flat. I found myself skimming over dialogue, because I didn't connect with what they were saying and the whole thing felt rushed. Also, fading to black on the first night in the ocean??? That was just cruel lol.
Fated to the Naga Gardener 3.5/5 - Zoe and Sage were adorable, but the story was underwhelming. The plot was too predictable.
Claimed by the Naga 5/5 - This was my favorite of the stories! The combination of regency era and monster romance was perfectly executed. Everyone needs a Nigel!
My Summer Centaur 4/5 - Some of the dialogue seemed aggressively juvenile, but the characters are supposed to be 21-year-old college students, so I guess it fits. There were parts where I wanted to strangle Lucius for his awkwardness and lack of personality. Marley saved the story with her sweet, supportive demeanor, and thank God, she brought Lucius out of his shell a bit. Their relationship was steamy, and I enjoyed the overall story. Beware! The cliffhanger is terrible!
Overall, I enjoyed this spicy, summer read. It's my understanding that they ordered the stories from shortest to longest, but I personally don't think that was the best choice. The first story was too short and left much to be desired. If I hadn't received an ARC copy, I don't know if I would've continued reading, but I'm so thankful I did! There were so many delightful, steamy stories to come. The last story ending on a cliffhanger was also frustrating. I would've enjoyed the anthology much more if the last story was swapped with one of the earlier ones that had a HEA.
