Cthulhu Mating Frenzy - Wendi Gogh - 4 stars!

Chaos is a Cthulhu and part of their ancient tradition is a spawning that they’re all enslaved to. Chaos hates it and is desperate to find a cure. On this particular spawning Chaos tries something new and has a breakthrough in his research. Now he HAS to find a mate.

”All the pleasure I was missing suddenly overwhelms my body as incoherent images flash through my mind, and I realize that the kotilo’s brain can act separately from the rest of my body.”

Detaching cocks, a smutty spawning and a revelation makes this short prelude intriguing and entertaining. This ends on a mild cliffhanger and I can’t wait to pick up the full length story.

Stolen by the Dagon - Eve L. Hart - 3 stars!

The FMC is swimming at the beach desperately needing release and companionship. When she decides to pleasure herself, a sea monster comes to offer her some help but this sexy creature isn’t willing to let her go.

”I believe you humans have a saying—finders, keepers.”

These two have quite a smutty encounter and it’s not enough because he whisks her away to make her his.

”Such a perfect little mate, coming all over me.”

This was zero world building or character development and all smut. I’m a little annoyed I don’t know either the FMC or MMCs names 😂. This ends on a HFN.

My Monster - Maeve Black - 4 stars!

Angel is obsessed with the sea that calls to him and on one of his free dives he’s dragged down to a new world.

”Little tritón…

“Why do I feel this way?

His lips curl cruelly like he knows so much but won’t tell me. “Because you’re mine. My mate.”

Raith has waited a long time for his mate and the two of them will build a life. This is smutty and cute as hell with a HEA.

Tailed to Get Nailed - Nessie Sreil - 5 stars!

Andra fights for monster equality and in a wrong place, wrong time kind of situation, she gets accused of murder. Inves is Inves Eble, an invisible monster tailing Andra. Clever, am I right?😂

Andra is in trouble and Inves offers his help. In more ways than one.

”The things I want to do to Cassandra Felix are enough to condemn a man to hell. And I would gladly spend an eternity there just for one taste of her forbidden fruit.”

This was witty and really humorous and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had a great plot, wonderful character development and was gloriously smutty. This ends on a HEA and I’ll definitely be checking this author out.

Kept by the Kraken - Ami Wright - 3.5 stars!

Shelly is down on her luck and Rosh the Kraken needs a fake date to his sister’s wedding. But when Shelly triggers Rosh’s mating glow…well things change.

”My treasure. Be mine.”

This was short and cute with a little smut. I like my MMCs to be a little more alpha but overall I enjoyed this. It ends on a HEA.

Destination Monster Wedding - Sabrina Cassidy - 3 stars!

Claire is at her sister’s wedding and finds that she can’t fit into the bridesmaid dress. Down on herself she ends up meeting Haru. He’s charming and sweet and tries to show her she’s desirable and his mate.

”I crave you too. I want to touch every curve, kiss every inch of your body “

This was fine but I struggle with liking stories where the FMC is so self deprecating. Instalove with a little smut. This ends on a HEA.

Date Night with the Kraken - Jenna Edon - 2.5 stars!

Kelsey goes out one evening and meets Bran, Craig and Miles. They are krakens and know Kelsey as their mate from a past life. Will these krakens be able to convince Kelsey they’re meant to be?

”Ours…you’re finally home.”

This was short and the MMCs were so adorably sweet and protective. Kelsey was a bit annoying. Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. This ends on a HEA.

Fated to the Naha Gardener - Jade Waltz - 2.5 - 3 stars!

Zoe gets a job interview at Starlight Resort and runs into Sage who happens to recognize her as his fated mate.

"She's mine. My fated mate. My gift from the Moon Goddess,"

These two get to know each other quickly and intimately. This was sweet and steamy. Zoe and Sage were adorable. I do like my MMCs to be a little more dominant however. This ends on a HEA.

Claimed by the Naga - Jessica Grayson - 4 stars!

Helena's best friend and crush Lord Nigel Hyss has reappeared into her life after many years. Helena is at a marrying age but only wants Nigel. But Nigel has secrets that he isn't sure Helena will able to cope with but just maybe he wants to lay it all out on the table.

"She is mine. And I will do whatever it takes to convince her to become my mate."

This was a well written historical romance. It's steamy, well developed for how short it was and all around romantic. This ends on a HEA.

My Summer Centaur - Alisha Williams & Cassie Lein - 3 stars!

Lucuis is half centaur/half human and finds his mate in Marley when he is spending his summer with his uncle. They have a lot of chemistry but something happens to tear them apart. This ends on a cliffhanger unfortunately.

"A group of monsters surrounds him as I hold a hand over my chest, trying to calm my racing heart. He's here, and he brought his friends."

Overall, a fun and steamy anthology.

I don't understand the four and five stars on these. This anthology is full of ideas, but it doesn't have well-developed execution. The sentence structure and plot mapping for most of these stories feels like an afterthought. Speed feels like the 'goal' of this collection.

Also. While the content looks edited, it very much feels like it hasn't been. I couldn't enjoy the stories. So I come out of this severely disappointed.

You love to see it… I know I do! ❤️‍🔥

"Come on, the water's fine!"
- Eve L. Hart

Cthulhu Mating Frenzy - Wendi Gogh
3.5/5 -- Tropes:
I really liked the MMC in this one, with his sciency mind! Interesting concept with that detachable. I did feel a bit robbed in the -ahem- final act though.

Stolen by the Dagon - Eve L. Hart
4.5/5 -- Tropes:
This was an easy fun one! I was waving a happy goodbye to the human male in the beginning - human, how boring ;)

How would they look drenched in sunlight? As breathtaking as him, I'm sure.
-Nessie Sreil

My Monster -Maeve Black
2/5 -- Tropes:
I can't with the glossary for a 30 page read. Do you hear me I CANT

Tailed to Get Nailed - Nessie Sreil
2/5 -- Tropes:
I do like the idea of an 'invisible' type monster, and it was kind of nice stepping away from the classic sea-beast types we've seen to date in this anthology! I did *not* like the FMC though. I didn't get the author's cute pen name until the end - hint: say it really fast...

Water kisses my skin in the way I hear humans describe stepping into the sunshine from a cold room. My body shifts, changing and splitting, swelling and writhing to be let free. I'm no longer standing on two human legs. Instead, eight tentacles cleave apart, tearing the clothing and twisting as they always do at first, seeking, latching.
-Ami Wright

Kept By The Kraken - Ami Wright
5/5 -- Tropes:
It wasn't totally perfect, but there were enough cute ideas that made me grin while I read this story! I loved the scene when she accidently spills her water. I plan to keep my eye out for the next release in this series.

Destination Monster Wedding - Sabrina Cassidy
4/5 -- Tropes:
This was a 5/5 for me - except for the continued focus on the FMC's size in a negative way. Other then that, the worldbuilding and how the monsters integrated into the modern world was fun!

Suddenly, the reality of where I am, who I'm surrounded by, rushes back to me. I'm in a monster resort, lost in the jungle, and apparently, not alone.
-Jade Waltz

Date Night With The Kraken - Jenna Edon
2.5/5 -- Tropes:
There were a few cute ideas, but I wasn't quite sold on any of the characters before the story had to come to an end. Other than the ex-mermaid =)

Fated To The Naga Gardener - Jade Waltz
5/5 -- Tropes:
The Starlight resort has so much fun potential, I will definitely read the next book set here!

"Tell me about yourself."
"I'm kraken and I find you most pleasing to the eye."
-Jenna Edon

Claimed by the Naga - Jessica Grayson
3/5 -- Tropes:
I didn't mind the 'big reveal' in this HR setting, though I still struggle to 'see' the naga form properly in my head. This almost read like a side short-story in the Monster Ball multi author series!

My Summer Centaur - Alisha Williams & Cassie Lein
2/5 -- Tropes:
I was really enjoying the shift in creature type, age and setting, but be warned: this is a hard to be continued and really drops you at the end!

Review for My Summer Centaur by Cassie Lein & Alisha Williams.

This was such a cute summer read. Marley is a young human girl, enjoying her summer off from college. She’s working at the local tiki bar along with hanging out with friends at the beach. Typical summer stuff, ya know. When MrTall Dark and Sexy AF walks into the bar she works at and it’s instant chemistry. Lucius is in town for the summer, just to visit his uncle and scoping out if he wants to transfer to the local university. When he meets Marley, bam. Fated mate! The thing is, Lucius is half man, half centaur. How exactly do you explain to your human mate, that you’re not all that human?

This is a super short piece but not short on the chemistry. That’s a development that comes with 2 authors who mesh well together. I cannot wait for the full length version of this!

Cthulhu Mating Frenzy

By Wendi Gogh

1 /5  MFF

I didn't enjoy this at all. Not only is our MMC miserable and depressed. But the life cycle of Cthulhu is sad as fuck. Their culture is sad and even though it changed and became more modern it's still effing sad.

Sure detachable dicks are funny but overall a sad story. Only spicy in the sense you knew sex/mating/breeding was happening but it wasn't detailed or written for the reader to enjoy.

Also read reviews of the book that follows this short story and I won't be reading it. Religious trauma, unwanted pregnancy, complications with pregnancy, forced adoption, sexual assault are some triggers just to name a few.

Stolen by the Dagon

By Eve L. Hart

4 /5 MF

I think this is a debut story. I kind of loved this. Our fmc is a bit unhinged. She's insatiably horny and she is so nonchalant about a creature coming up from behind her and taking her away to a deserted island. And then she is all like, YES, share me with your other brothers. I want to be the clan whore?

Okay, go off sis. Love your enthusiasm!

My Monster

By Maeve Black

3 /5 MM mpreg

This was hot and if the story was more fleshed out and used more descriptions I would have loved it more.

We got a look at a new world with really no explanation. It's like a monster and also magic. But none of it's explained. I think the ending chapter wasn't needed. I would have loved the ending chapter to be more about this new world than Angel going back home.

Tailed to get Nailed

By Nessie Sreil

2 /5 FM

This was okay. I guess I wish there was a more solid ending to the story. It’s like nothing got resolved other than their horniess. When the author gave us a huge problem to solve and we only solved like 1 /4 of the problem, our FMC is wanted for MURDER! Lol

Kept by the Kraken

By Ami Wright

4 /5 FM

Loved this one so much! I might check out more titles by this author. I just wish there was more smut!

Destination Monster Wedding

Sabrina Cassidy

3 /5

This was cute. We've got a curvy female main character, which I love. But beware this short story is full of internal and external fatphobic scenes.

Date Night with the Kraken

By Jenna Edon

1 /5 MMMF

This was so bad. The writing was awful. The dialogue was out of place and you didn't always know who was talking sometimes. The author did not write these characters very well.

Fated to the Naga Gardener

By Jade Wauz

3 /5 Very cute but also very silly and kind of an air head fmc.

Claimed by the Naga

By Jessica Grayson

2 /5 a period piece, which I'm not very fond of. But the characters were sweet.

My Summer Centaur

By Alisha Williams

2 /5 this is a prologue to another book but I won't be reading it. I liked the story but I'm not fond of the characters or how the author writes.

Happy to give an honest review on this ARC I received.

Beach Shots and Monster Knots was a cute and spicy summer collection featuring a variety of monsters and their mates.

Overall: Definitely a solid recommendation to monster romance readers in search of short, spicy reads
Spice: Explicit and on-page

Let’s start off by stating that these authors did a wonderful job in these stories! The anthology provided a good mix of stories that were purely monster spice and some that were more plot with a dash of spice. The stories were placed in order of shortest to longest. Naturally the longer the story, the plot was added in. Now on to the stories!

First off was Cthulhu Mating Frenzy by Wendi Gogh. Chaos, a researcher and Cthulhu, experiences his Eureka research moment during a unique mating arrangement. I rated this story as a 4 stars. The premise is unique, and despite it being the shortest story, it packed a good balance of plot and spice.

Next up is Stolen by the Dagon by Eve L Hart. Our leading lady finds herself being rescued/ abducted out of her unsatisfactory relationship by a mysterious Dagon. This was my first story with a Dagon and it did not disappointment. I rated this story as a 4/5.

My Monster by Maeve Black was one of my favorite MM stories to date! I so hope that this is fleshed out into a full novel. Ángel and Raith’s story reminds me of a reverse Little Mermaid retelling where Ángel longs for the water. This story was a 4.5/5 for me.

Following that story was Tailed to Get Nailed by Nessie Sreil. Andra is a sassy human who finds herself being set up for murder after a prank goes wrong. Detective Inves Eble, previously seen in Stitched to get Hitched, finds himself taking on more than he bargained for when he originally took on the job of tracking down Andra. This story was a 4/5 for me. For one, Inves Eble’s name cracks me up every time (iykyk). It was clever play on words for sure. Secondly, Inves Eble’s monster form is so different from anything else I have read, so props to Nessie for that. Lastly, I think Andra and Inves’ story is cozy and cute! They are the definition of the grump/ sunshine trope which is also a hit! I’m not always a fan of insta-love type stories, but I think Nessie did a good job of fleshing out the plot to make their relationship make sense. Overall, I really enjoyed this story!

Kept by the Kraken by Ami Wright follows Shelly and Gudroshcruka’s unusual meet-cute in which Shelly agrees to be Gudroshcruka’s fake girlfriend. This was a fun read about two polar opposite characters. 3.5/5

Sabrina Cassidy’s story, Destination Monster Wedding, is a cute fated mates story. Claire escapes her sister’s pre-wedding festivities by taking a stroll on the beach where she meets Haru, a Cecaelia. 4/5 for me purely because Haru is such a sweetheart! Loved their story!

Date Night with the Kraken is a RH story in which Kelsey finds herself in quite the predicament after a tryst with Bran, Craig, and Miles. I enjoyed this story! I could see Jenna Edon expending upon these characters into a full length novel. 3.5/5 rating for this story.

Fated to the Naga Gardener by Jade Waltz was such a cozy love story! While on her way to her dream interview, Zoe literally falls head overs heels for Sage. I loved Sage’s gentle spirit and how he cares for Zoe. I would give this story a 4/5 for how cute Zoe and Sage are together.

Claimed by the Naha by Jessica Grayson is a historical, second- chance, regency story. I didn’t connect as well to Helena and Nigel’s story, but I’m not a huge historical romance. I did appreciate Helena’s most natural response to Nigel’s revealing. My rating for this story is 3.5.

Lastly is My Summer Centaur by Alisha Williams and Cassie Lein.I am happy that this story is getting expended upon as Lucius and Marley’s story sort of ends on a sad note. However, the angst is well done and compelling! Can’t wait for the full release! 4/5 rating

I received an ARC copy in exchange for my honest review.

Overall Rating: 3.5/5 stars!

Cthulhu Mating Frenzy 2.5/5 - This was a short start to the anthology. Chaos was dreading the annual mating ritual for his kind, but someone unexpected ends up tagging along this year, shaking things up. The offer/sacrifice he made for his friend, Tula, was beyond sweet, but due to it, the storyline and spice felt lacking. I realize this is a prelude, but the continuation of the story was needed. Overall, it felt rushed and too short.

Stolen by the Dragon 4/5 - This was HOT. Once again left unsatisfied by her slut-shaming boyfriend, the FMC takes a spicy solo-swim, only to be joined by someone else. Someone who has tentacles. The possessiveness and tentacle action were top notch. Overall, I just wished it were longer and for there to be more relationship development between the two.

My Monster 5/5 - This was spicy and sweet! I loved that Raith was possessive but still supportive of Angel's need to communicate with and be accepted by his family. Also, the incorporation of Spanish and praise was something that I didn't know I needed (thank you for adding the translations, too).

Tailed to Get Nailed 5/5 - This is the second story I've read from Nessie Sreil, and I am overly impressed with the world building she can incorporate in such a brief time, and in a spicy romance, nonetheless. I was engaged in the politics of the world without it overwhelming the romance aspect. I loved the banter between Andra and Inves, and I also appreciated the reference to Lisette from Stitched to Get Hitched! The spice was *chef's kiss*.

Kept by the Kraken 4/5 - I adored Shelly and Rosh. Shelly is a lovable mess, and Rosh is the career-focused Kraken who needs a wedding date. Fake relationship? Fated mates? Sign me up!

Destination Monster Wedding 3.5/5 - Claire was a relatable character with her insecurities, but at some point, she just became a lot. I love a good plus size FMC, but Claire's self-deprecating personality was never-ending, even after Haru constantly built her up and told her how sexy he found her. Haru was the star of this story. He never once made Claire feel bad about herself, he stood up for her when needed, and he absolutely adored her.

Date Night with the Kraken 2/5 - The story had a good concept, but the characters fell flat. I found myself skimming over dialogue, because I didn't connect with what they were saying and the whole thing felt rushed. Also, fading to black on the first night in the ocean??? That was just cruel lol.

Fated to the Naga Gardener 3.5/5 - Zoe and Sage were adorable, but the story was underwhelming. The plot was too predictable.

Claimed by the Naga 5/5 - This was my favorite of the stories! The combination of regency era and monster romance was perfectly executed. Everyone needs a Nigel!

My Summer Centaur 4/5 - Some of the dialogue seemed aggressively juvenile, but the characters are supposed to be 21-year-old college students, so I guess it fits. There were parts where I wanted to strangle Lucius for his awkwardness and lack of personality. Marley saved the story with her sweet, supportive demeanor, and thank God, she brought Lucius out of his shell a bit. Their relationship was steamy, and I enjoyed the overall story. Beware! The cliffhanger is terrible!

Overall, I enjoyed this spicy, summer read. It's my understanding that they ordered the stories from shortest to longest, but I personally don't think that was the best choice. The first story was too short and left much to be desired. If I hadn't received an ARC copy, I don't know if I would've continued reading, but I'm so thankful I did! There were so many delightful, steamy stories to come. The last story ending on a cliffhanger was also frustrating. I would've enjoyed the anthology much more if the last story was swapped with one of the earlier ones that had a HEA.

A lovely collection of summer spicy monster short stories.

Cthulhu Mating Frenzy by Wendi Gogh
Rating: 3.5 / 5 stars
Pairing: mff or just ff depending on how you look at it
Comments: This was a short hot little story, not my typical cup of tea but I still enjoyed getting a view into this type of monster romance. I have never read a monster story about Cthulhu before, so this was my first-time learning about their anatomy. I will be checking out Claimed by the Cthulhu in the future!

Stolen By the Dagon by Eve L. Hart
Rating: 5 / 5 stars
Pairing: m/f
Comments: Well, this one was a hot little surprise that checked all of my boxes. I wanted more; this was exactly the sort of story I needed in my life.

My Monster by Maeve Black
Rating: 3 / 5 stars
Pairing: m/m
Comments: I loved the included index for characters and language, very helpful. This isn't really the type of romance pairing I usually read but it was still hot.

Tailed To Get Nailed by Nessie Sreil
Rating: 5 / 5 stars
Pairing: m/f
Comments: I never imagined the Invisible man quiet like this, but I really enjoyed this story. I love the connection of this story to Nessie Sreil's previous book Stitched to Get Hitched. I thought this was a very cute spicy short story and I would love to read more stories inside this monster world.

Kept by the Kraken by Ami Wright
Rating: 4 / 5 stars
Pairing: m/f
Comments: Very cute, I enjoyed this story. I only wish it was a tiny bit longer and spicier.

Destination Monster Wedding by Sabrina Cassidy
Rating: 4 / 5 stars
Pairing: m/f
Comments: An interesting destination wedding story. It was a cute story, the only thing that kept it from being 5/5 for me was I just wasn't feeling the connection/chemistry between the main characters as much as wanted to.

Date Night with the Kraken by Jenna Edon
Rating: 3 / 5 stars
Pairing: RH/Why choose
Comments: RH isn't really my thing, but I enjoyed the story. Probably the most pushback from the FMC in this story compared to the rest.

Fated to the Naga Gardener by Jade Waltz
Rating: 5 / 5 stars
Pairing: m/f
Comments: another compelling story in this anthology. It checked all of my boxes for a short, fated mates monster romance. This is another one that I would have loved for it to be longer but the story did still feel complete.

Claimed by the Naga by Jessica Grayson
Rating: 4.5 / 5 stars
Pairing: m/f
Comments: Well, this is an author I have read a fair number of stories from so I was pretty excited to see they had a story in this anthology. I enjoyed this story. Probably the only thing that kept it from being 5 stars is just the monster lover in me being aghast at Helena's reaction to Nigel, I am sure it is probably a realistic reaction be I want more books with heroines who are more open to the supernatural world.

My Summer Centaur by Alisha Williams & Cassie Lein
Rating: 3.5 / 5 stars
Pairing: m/f
Comments: This one has a promising storyline it just didn't end as happy as I wanted it to, it was maybe more of a HFN (sort of) so that readers will read the rest of their series, which I will have to read Hooves and Heartstrings at some point to see if it gives me the HEA I needed.

This review is for My Summer Centaur by Cassie Lein and Alisha Williams, which is part of this anthology.

Well color me shocked and unlock yet another set of mythical creatures in hot romance stories that I am suddenly in love with.

Coral Springs is a small college town that is going to be accepting hybrid (monster) students for the first time in the fall in addition to their human students. Lucius has gone to spend the summer with his human uncle who lives in the town in an attempt to gain some clarity on what the correct path for him is in the coming year. Having been bullied for being half centaur for his entire life, he has no expectations when it comes to making friends or finding someone to start a romantic relationship with. That all changes when he meets Marley. His world is rocked by her and he knows nothing will ever be the same now.

Marley has lived near Coral Springs her entire life. Bartending on her summer off, she never expects to meet someone she was instantly attracted to. That all changes the night Lucius steps into the bar. With his dark, closed off nature, Marley isn't sure why she is giving so much of her time and energy into chasing this guy, but there is something about him that keeps her drawn in. Is he just destined to be a summer fling for her or is there more there that she can't quite see yet?

This story was short and sweet but left me with oh so many questions! The relationship between Marley and Lucius does develop fast but doesn't (at least in this installment- there is a new series about this university so hopefully we get some answers there) necessarily end on a happy note, especially with the way that Marley's friends view monsters and relationships with them. That part seriously broke at my heartstrings but I will say Marley does do her fair share to set her friends straight in the end despite the fact that it may be too late.

There were only a few scenes of spice in this story, and I completely understand why, but despite that fact the few scenes were hot and the mouth on Lucius did things. He excels at dirty talk and I would love to see more if their story is continued in the upcoming series.

Quick, fun read, especially if you are into monster romances and a very fun start to a new, upcoming series. Can't wait to get my hands on more.

Kept by the Kraken by Ami Wright - 🐙 “There’s my good girl. You ready to find out how kraken do it?”
~~~
Shelly is so sweet, friendly and fun! But she’s also a bit clumsy, which often puts her in trouble or in some awkward situations. And she’s about to lose her home in addition to losing her job. But she’s just so lovely. I loved her so, so much!
And Gudroshcruka is such a wonderful, kind, caring and hardworking male. And I adored everything about him! Rosh is also the last member of his family without a mate. Yet, his priorities are currently focused on developing his career. So, to avoid being pestered about it, with the help of Monstrous Deals, he arranges a date for his sister’s wedding. Unfortunately for him, she cancels at the last moment. But, maybe, that’s the best thing that could’ve happened to him.
I absolutely adored everything that happened between Shelly and Rosh! Their chance encounter in the Monstrous Deals’ bar might be the perfect solution for both of their problems when Rosh offers Shelly to be his fake girlfriend and she agrees. From the moment they met, they were instantaneously attracted to each other and were just so cute together. I loved every clumsy and sweet moment they shared. And when their pretend relationship turned out to be so much more and they couldn’t resist the undeniable need for one another, the passionate moments they shared were so hot! Oh, Rosh and those naughty, naughty tentacles! Rosh and Shelly were so perfect for each other and I couldn't get enough of them!
Overall, Kept by the Kraken is a short, sweet, cozy and fun story and I absolutely loved every page of it!
Monster Romance Anthology . . .
The authors have put together an anthology with proceeds going to raise money for St Jude Children’s Hospital. One of the stories, “DATE NIGHT WITH THE KRAKEN” by Jenna Edon, introduced us to a 26-year-old female who meets a monster Kraken named Bran who is trying to find a date… or did he say “mate”?
Bran was at the bar with his friends, Miles and Craig, so after Kelsey gives him a hard time, she decides to go home with them thinking her friend Sherry had sent them. She discovers they are not exactly who they seem nor what she expected! All three of them are Kraken who claim she is their mate. With Sherry and her mother constantly pushing her to find someone, Kelsey is still suspicious that they were sent here and this is a set-up. They agree on one date to prove that they are meant for each other.
They went to Bran’s beach house and everyone stripped down and went into the water. Will Kelsey realize there seem to be more “hands” in the water than she would have expected? When she wakes the next morning, Bran tells her they are mates now. Will Kelsey understand what they mean by that? She runs away in the morning and goes to work, mentioning the guys to Sherry who denied sending them. But Sherry got serious when she saw a chevron mark on Kelsey’s arm. She knew what it was and what it meant… if Kelsey had accepted them, the mating was binding. But she had too much to drink and wasn’t sure. Was she ready for a future with them? Was there a way to walk away from the situation?
I'm not going to lie the main reason I read this book was for 1 particular story, but I was absolutely surprised at how much I enjoyed the rest. Overall, I highly recommend this anthology. Since there's several great ones, I'll focus on the ones I really enjoyed.
Stolen by the Dagon by Eve L. Hart
High heat!!! Omg wow, this short story was so good! I don't think I've read anything by this author, but you best believe I'm going to be picking up more of her books.
Tailed to Get Nailed by Nessie Sreil
This one is the reason I picked this book up. The fmc Andra is the cousin mentioned in Stitched to Get Hitched. She is such a funny, chaotic mess. Inves Eble is The Invisible Man. We get to find out how he looks and what type of monster he is. It's short, funny, and spicy.
Kept by The Kraken by Ami Wright
First story I've ever read by this author, and I really enjoyed it. Fake girlfriend turning into something more. I love these types of stories, and this is fast-paced.
I've found new authors to read because of this anthology, so I call that a win. Plus, several of the stories were high heat, and that was a nice bonus.
⭐⭐⭐.5- Plot, Characters, Pacing
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ - Spice quality/quantity, execution
🥵🥵🥵- Chemistry, HEA potential
“She is mine. And I will do whatever it takes to convince her to become my mate.” - Beach Shots and Monster Knots
It’s summertime, and that means the sun's out and monsters are out to provide a tentacle or two to some of our lucky heroes and heroines. Our 10 tales of deep-sea lovers range from sweet and soothing like balm on a sunburn, to hot in just the right spots. And if there are any monster readers looking for some kinky Tags, this anthology has got you covered with scenes that prove how much fun (and jaw-dropping) a monster equipment can be. Bookkeeper word of advice: pack that lube with the sunscreen.
There were a couple of stories that felt a bit rushed and underwhelming, but there are plenty of jewels in this treasure chest. A few act as prequels to full-length novels coming up very soon, while others act as short and sweet stories to savor like a piña colada.
So grab a copy, find a nice spot on the nearest beach, and settle into the world of “Beach Shots and Monster Knots”.
Final Smut Archive assessment: *cue the JAWS theme*
Review for Kept by the Kraken by Ami Wright only:
Shelly, the female human lead, has lost her job and her home and is literally desperate. Gudroshcruka (Rosh), the male kraken lead, hired a date for his sister’s wedding so he wouldn’t be hassled about why he’s still single, but now she has cancelled. When they meet in a bar, Rosh figures they can help each other out. Then he realises that Shelly is his fated mate when he didn’t want one, making her hide….
This short story is dual POV, well written, and a necessarily fast romance. I enjoyed the complementary lead characters’ personalities. I laughed at the clumsy/sexy moments. I appreciated the awkwardness between characters. I enjoyed the intimate scenes for these characters. I genuinely want more of them (and not just because tentacles are fun) and hope the author expands this once this anthology expires.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
So many great stories!!
I loved this anthology! There were so many different stories and they were so hot, hot, hot!! I was sucked into all the different worlds and have already downloaded the next books from so many of the authors!
Tailed to Get Nailed by Nessie Sreil - this is a companion story to Stitched to Get Hitched (when Inves leaves to investigate). He finds Andra and this is the beginning of their story!! She's hilarious and feisty! Inves is protective and so cute! I can't wait to find out what happens next and just love this world!!
Kept by The Kraken by Ami Wright- loved, loved, LOVED!! A fake dating romance but with a monster! Shelly was at her wits end, she's got the worst luck in jobs. So when Rosh makes her an offer of paying her to be his fake girlfriend, she jumps at it. They had instant chemistry, but I love how careful Rosh was with her. This was a great introduction to this world and I've already downloaded the next story to this series!!
Well... this afternoon, I read 3 of the stories in this fun anthology.
The first, by Nessie Sreil - Tailed To Get Nailed. Loved it, laughed :D as I read, at the banter from the main characters - Cassandra and Inves. So much fun, as they deal with the issues they are faced with. I wanted more though and especially when Inves's brother came into the story. I do hope you will bless us with more! :)
Next story read, was by Ami Wright - Kept by The Kraken. Another tale filled with humour as this pair strike a deal. Shelly is hired to be a fake girlfriend to Rosh's kraken. He needs a date to attend his sister wedding. But soon discovers, she is his fated mate. Again I was left wanting more but pleased, all ends well. :)
Third story read, was by Jade Waltz - Fated To The Naga Gardener. Another lovely tale of two characters wondering if life would ever see them settled. Zoe applies to work on Monster Island Resort and literally, trips over Sage's tail. A naga. Again there is humour and lovely side characters as well. But still left me wanting more. :)
Now I chose these authors first, as I had received an ARC from one and have been buying ebooks and reading the works of the other two.
Now I can enjoy the rest of this fun anthology and more from the authors, in the future. If you wish to enjoy short, sweet and fun tales, the grab this anthology, and enjoy
Beach Shots & Minster Knots: A Monster Romance Anthology is written by several authors to help raise money for St Jude.
I read A Summer Centaur by Cassie Lein and Alisha Williams. It is a sweet summer romance about Marley and Lucius. Lucius finds himself at his uncles house that’s on the beach trying to decide what he wants to do the following year. He’s unsure about leaving the house because he’s a monster and doesn’t know how people will react. But his uncle forces him out one night to a bar down the street. He meets Marley, and all of his plans for the summer go out the window.
This story was sweet and fun to read. I enjoyed the inner dialogue of both of the main characters. I hope that they expand this story, because I would love to see where it goes.
My Summer Centaur by Cassie Lein & Alisha Williams.
This was a sweet, cute, & quick look into a world I can’t wait to see more of. Lucius is a half human half centaur who goes to spend the summer with his human uncle and check out the local town & University. The University is the first in the country that will begin to accept monsters in the new semester.
In town, Lucius meets Marley and they both instantly like each other. Love the sweet romance between them & I wanted to tear up with them when a misunderstanding hurts Luci & sends him home. Unable to reach him, Marley figures she won’t see him again, but gets a surprise when Luci shows up on campus on the first day of classes. Can’t wait for the follow up novel to see what happens next.
Review for My Summer Centaur by Cassie Lein & Alisha Williams.
* Thanks for the ARC copy of the authors!
I know the story is part of an anthology, but my only problem with it was that it was extremely short. We have a charming little town, Lucius - a particularly disgruntled hybrid who is sent there by his mother for the summer, a human uncle and Marley.
I can say that she was the pleasant surprise that brought a lot of energy and color to the story. The way they met and developed their relationship was sweet and enjoyable to read.
There was definitely chemistry between them as well as some steamy scenes.
I read the story in one sitting and I can say I couldn't get enough! I want more of this universe, and I'd like to see more of Lucius and Marley.
A solidly "OK" anthology of monster f*cking short stories. The individual stories were not particularly spicy or well written, the anthology reads more an advertisement for other books by the authors. For me however, none of these made me want to see more. Some stories had a kernel or two of solid world building, but even by short/novella standards, there wasn't much here for characters or plot. Not super spicy (given that standards for the genre) and I really only kept reading because each story was short enough that seeing if the next one would be better wasn't too much of a stretch. Other reviewers did seem to enjoy all the stories, so this may be a matter of personal taste, but I would give this one a pass.
Review for My Summer Centaur
This is such a cute prequel and a fun spin on the boy meets girl summer romance. It's a quick read and I loved Luci and Marley together. Marley is instantly likeable and Luci is a total sweetheart; I was rooting for him and loved how open he was about not feeling like he fit in. The phone call with his parents was definitely my favourite part; I was crying with laughter at the level of cringe with his dad and then when his mum took over I was in stitches. I hope we meet them again!
Storywise, I was not expecting the plot twist nor that ending and I looking forward to where they go next. I'm a sucker for some grovelling so I'm hoping we'll see some in the next instalment!
Honestly, this book had me interested by the cover. It is absolutely adorable and so eye catching. Then I opened it. For once, judging a book by its cover was the 10000% right thing to do.
Each story has an adorable coupling that just makes your heart melt plus the spice levels are amazing which just helps you melt in other places too 😊 😏
If you have remotely any interest in water based monsters, centaurs with sensitive hearts, or Nagas that can carry you with ease this is the book for you.
HEA lovers Unite by the way.
A trip to the beach will never be the same again, but in the funnest and sexiest ways ever. Take your shots fellow monster lovers...and enjoy those knots 🪢
Great collection of monster stories
My Summer Centaur by Cassie Lein and Alisha Williams
I loved all of this short story. It was about an hour read and so sweet, but sad in a way. Everyone deserves love, even a half-centaur young man that is just trying to find his way in life, working on making some big decisions in his life. Boy meets girl, story that always go one way or another. This one in a way ends, at least for me, on a cliffhanger. Thankfully it seems I'll get move info later when the new series Coral Springs University comes out. Book one is Hooves & Heartstrings!! If you love sweet romance, in the summer, with young love, this story is for YOU!
Awesome collection of short stories. One of my favorites is My Summer Centaur by Cassie Lein and Alisha Williams. It's the great boy-meets-girl theme, but this guy is half centaur, and she's a human. Great dialogue, some spicy scenes, and of course, the heartbreak moment we all anticipate in romance stories. The ending definitely sets the scene for a continuation, and I can't wait to see more of Lucius and Marley.
If you want something the read while you're waiting in the doctor's office, on your lunch or dinner break, or just have some extra time and need a palate cleanser from the last story you read, this is the perfect book for you.
This is an incredible monster anthology. Not only does it a some remarkable short monster novella but it also supports St. Jude. My review is for My Summer Centuar by Cassie Lein & Alisha Williams. This is prequel to their upcoming series. Luci is half human & half centuar who spending his summer before college with his uncle. He meets Marley in tiki bar where he knew she was his mate. But at first she doesn’t know what he is and he afraid to show her because of how he been treated in the past. Their journey will start out sweet and innocent until he overhear something and it will break both their hearts. But the ending will make want to beg for the next book.
