The concept of this book is so cute and I was really interested to read this one! The vibe of the town is really reminiscent to Halloween Town for me and I really loved that! The pumpkin heads were fun, and Asmo is my favorite character for sure! The cozy vibes were amazing and I think the authors showcased really well how cute the town was and set up some great directions for the story to go. About half way through is where it starts to fall apart for me. There’s not one positive relationship between women in this book and that’s the main conflict. All the women have some sort of petty argument, or are in direct competition with each other and this book being written by two men made it even worse for me. The second half felt a little lazy because of the main conflict being this really petty argument between two of the main women. I really loved the setting but the overall storyline could’ve had more effort put into it.
If you want a nice, chill book to read with a good storyline, this is another book for you. Wolfe Locke writes very well and is able to keep you interested while not going over the top which is one of the reasons I enjoy his books.
Looking forward to another one in this series and additional book from the author in general.
I've been reading a lot of dark litrpg and this was just the kind of story I needed. It was light, fun and like peeking into a world that makes you want to be a part of.
A charming story to escape with before sleep, or on a break in a busy day...really fun "world" with a cast of interesting characters, deftly drawn. I loved Rosie, maybe because I shared one of her most defining qualities of not wanting others to feel guilty (about abandoning her business). I loved her interactions with the demon, her cousin, the pumpkinheads, and how kindly she is with the townsfolk. The town and how she lives was fascinating. I *loved* the baked goods at the coffee shop, and my wish is that it become Witch's Brew & Bakery some day. I will just have to keep reading to find out!
Page after page of the most pointless details (I stopped by the market on the way to pick up some fresh pasta and ripe tomatoes - the last of this summers' crop - and carried them back in my basket [...] First I got the fire going in the stove, then I set a pot of salted water on to boil. Then I roughly sliced the tomatoes and dropped them into a pan with a little salt. They, too went over the fire , and I hummed a little as I stirred them with a big wooden spoon.) What a waste of paper. The story is meaningless, the characters are uninteresting and the FMC is pretty obtuse. DNF after 100 pages.
A simple yet very entertaining story! As a witch, I completely enjoyed and related to the main character, Rosie, and enjoyed her fun friends. I had to make lots of stops to grab myself a treat because the drinks and foods in this novel made me drool! I was bummed at the ending but excited to see there's already a continuation of the book!
I love a cozy fantasy but the author forgot this was about a witch. The whole “I’m powerful but won’t use my power” troupe is outplayed but would have gone with the story had she used a little magic like she said and was implied. She didn’t use any magic at all until 80-85% into the book. That’s problematic for a story about a witch.
