Wow. This was so beautifully written and relatable. Definitely check TWs before reading. But the angst was so tangible and second chance after just disappearing. I’m not sure how Morgan got through everything but her story had me hooked.

I received this ARC for an honest review, all thoughts/opinions above are my own!

I had hight expectations about this book, however the writing was a bit confusing to me at times. Nevertheless I loved the story. The coming of age of a troubled young woman, that is only troubled because her family didn't fully accept her sexuality. A young woman that misses her best friend, and is used by another young woman that does not respect her.

This book shows how, unfortunately, society still discriminates and promotes hate against the LGBTQIA+. It sends such an important message, and shows what might happen when we don't fully accept our children. Also, there's reference to hate against Asians that made my blood boil. The fact that this happens too often makes me nauseous.

In the end I did not become a fan of the writing style, but still it made me weep because of the amount of hurt in the main characters heart. The fact that she finds her happy place made me so happy.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily

MY GOD! this book made so fucking angry!!! I spent more than half the time cursing every character in this book ! I kept waiting for things to get better but they didn’t until like 75% of the book! It was so emotionally exhausting to read
I read the TW and i know there was abuse, but still
Morgan kept making the same mistakes over and over again and that’s what made me so angry, she kept saying that this is the last time she go back to her Family and toxic ex but she keep going back! Her family was so homophobic towards her, even her twin brother who was supposed to be her best friend was abusive 😒😒, you know she love Your supposed girlfriend and yet you proposed to her even though you don’t love her? Even after that he kept asking her to come back? And for what i don’t know!
And Bailen? Where do i start, i hoped she dies so many times, why Morgan loved her i have no fucking idea

Also the writing was repetitive and confusing as fuck, i think the author meant for it to be poetic but she totally missed the mark

this book is incredibly disjointed. it doesn’t really make sense and even when it does there’s no actual plot. the character development is non-existent and the main relationships are incredibly weak and fall flat.

I was given this book complimentary from BookSirens in e-book form in return for my honest review. Everything stated in this review is of my own opinion and I was not compensated monetarily for providing this review.
This is my first book by Laikyn Meng and I found it a difficult book to read, not because it is poorly written - it is not, it is very well written but because some parts of it very accurately hit their targets. This is not a fluffy romance for the YA market this is a book for people who have lived and have the scars. The m/c leaves family trauma and goes into a toxic relationship thinking it is love but in reality it is something very different a parallel thread being the disappearance of her "soul mate" at a very vulnerable time.
A very heavy book with lots of triggers but with the ultimately hopeful message that no matter how dark the night or how terrible the circumstance there is always that possibility of redemption.
Recommended for people who have actually lived their lives and have the scars to prove it

So much angst. Like wayyyyy too much drama for my tastes. I wanted to like this book so much because it's well written, there's loads of layers etc. However, maybe I'm just too old, grading life on a really big curve, to like the MC who just came off as a big ol whiner baby to me. She created way too many of her own dramas and didn't appreciate the support she actually did have. I feel that she was the epitome of someone who is their own worst enemy. Don't let that put you off reading though. This is a good author, it's just this book wasn't for me.

I've read a lot of books written by Laikyn Meng; she is one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of her books.

She has written a good book. The story is about morgan & Makoto; they were childhood best friends; now he’s back.

I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.

There’s a really excellent story in here that desperately needs an editor to help the plot, typos and confusing mixed metaphors. I enjoyed reading it despite these flaws because the story is unique and engaging.
