2025 Review - Still solid, and like I said originally, Sasha stuff is all good. But overall this does feel more set up for Checkpoint than anything else. Sad to see Sasha leave the way she did though but the outro by Brubaker helped a lot to settle things.

Old Review: This is like closing out the pieces left after Fugitive more than the main storyline.

So we have Bruce trying to free Sasha after her still being in prison. So after getting badly injured it looks like she might be dead...but is she? Checkmate comes into play in this chapter as Batman tries to clean up the mess. By the end we also close up Batgirl's part in it all and her relationship with her father, which I read in Batgirl anyway.

Good: Enjoyed the stuff with Sasha. Watching Bruce care but not able to do much to change anything is both sad and interesting. I also really liked anything with Batgirl but cass is my favorite girl EVER. The art is also solid.

Bad: Feels like a close out chapter. A extra chapter. I also didn't like the middle chapter...it's boring.

Overall, a good closing, but not great. A 3 out of 5.

“Bruce Wayne: Fugitive, Vol. 3” collects DETECTIVE COMICS #773-775, BATMAN #606-607 and BATGIRL #33.

Vol. 2 seemed to wrap up most of the storyline. We finally know who killed Vesper and Bruce Wayne clears his name. I guess we can assume that Sasha Bordeaux, Wayne’s bodyguard, will also be exonerated right?

And that’s pretty much what Vol. 3 is about. We find out what happens with Bordeaux. There’s some corny romance stuff. Deadshot makes an appearance. All the loose ends are tied up.

As a whole, this whole story arc (Bruce Wayne: Murderer?! + Bruce Wayne: Fugitive Vols 1-3) was . . . fine, I guess. The art is a mixed bag. The story is fine. It definitely didn’t need to be dragged out to nearly 1,000 pages. By the end, I was ready to be done with the story (I guess that’s what I get for reading it all in a day!).

Batman: Bruce Wayne, Fugitive is a story arc that ran through the various Batman family comic book series that was published by DC Comics. The storyline centers on Bruce Wayne being charged and arrested with the murder of Vesper Fairchild – his current girlfriend. Unable to stay put, Bruce Wayne escapes from prison and abandons his alter ego and become Batman full time.

Batman: Bruce Wayne, Fugitive, Vol. 3 collects: Detective Comics #773–775, Batman #606–607, and Batgirl #33.

This trade paperback concludes the story about Bruce Wayne being arrested for the crime of killing his girlfriend Vesper Fairchild, which forced Batman to abandon his Bruce Wayne persona and become Batman fulltime. It is eventually found out that it was David Cain – Cassandra Cain's father – the new Batgirl and brought him into custody and clearing the name of Bruce Wayne.

Greg Rucka, Ed Brubaker, and Kelley Puckett wrote the majority of the trade paperback and for the most part, I rather enjoyed the narrative. Some issues were better than others were, but overall it was somewhat well planned and written. Batman and his team managed to clear the name of Bruce Wayne for killing Vesper Fairchild and the real killer David Cain has been taken to custody.

Steve Lieber, Rick Burchett, Scott McDaniel, and Damion Scott are the pencilers for this trade paperback. With so many pencilers, it is rather difficult to grade the overall artistic flow. For the most part this hodgepodge of pencilers has similar styles with few exceptions and that the flow of the artistic style flowed rather smoothly with a few sudden jerks.

Overall Batman: Bruce Wayne, Fugitive is a unique storyline that deterred Batman from a different angle – his civilian persona. Having Bruce Wayne arrested and imprisoned made it rather difficult to investigate his own case.

All in all, Batman: Bruce Wayne, Fugitive, Vol. 3 is a rather strong conclusion to an interesting story arc.

this was actually such a good ending which is surprising considering this shitload of an event

the best thing they did was kick out stupid fucking chuck dixon. and the character development for Bruce was SO needed considering everything that happened during knightfall, no man’s land, officer down like Bruce was NOT okay and it just kept getting worse and worse and he became more of a dick it was just sad and everything with sasha he was a dick and when Alfred left??? jesus

and I really like how during this volume they focused a lot on parental love with him and cass and cain and cass it was sort of amazing i think. it was really important to see that because with how everything with Sasha and how that went down bruce kinda deserved to see how badly he fucked up and how he fucked up her life and it was just terrible and he needed to know needed to see how he messed up and while that is true we also needed to see his growth, his maturity.

that makes the last page SO important with cass on him being better. Even though she messed up the mission and didn’t get any information whatsoever he’s just like it’s okay forget it and gives her a gift and says happy birthday and even though she says it’s not her birthday he says says who? With a little smile and THAT development is everything to me

A solid end to a very good Batman event/crossover. Reading this series reminds me how much I miss Cassandra Cain as Batgirl and Barbara Gordon as Oracle.

I really like the scene where Bruce Wayne returns and we get to see him spend a day going around town talking to everyone like he's trying to get them not to shoot his parents

Its has been over 8 months but I have finally finished this comic series!! Of what I remember over the course of the many months I was reading this comic, I found it to be a very interesting story line and kind of noir in a way (being that it was about finding the killer of a brutal murder). Of course Bruce Wayne would never kill anyone because he's Batman but to the people that knew he was Batman, it seemed like the only one who could have committed the crime was Batman!! It was a very unique concept, to have someone like Batman put into that kind of scenario where even his closest friends and allies were doubting him. I enjoyed reading this (even if it may not seem like it due to the length of time it took me to read it) although what did annoy me was that the style of drawing would change. I knew that it was because some of the comics would be from a different series and thus be drawn by different artists but it made me disconnect with the story a little bit and distracted me from understanding where the story was going. What also bothered me was that characters (that we have seen in other comics) were in for a couple of pages but then were never mentioned again. Do writers do that just to have the readers go 'oh this character was in this comic'? Besides those minor things, I really did enjoy this series and how there was character development and also a twist ending.

Bruce Wayne may be a free man, but the story is not over. Cain, an assassin, and the new Batgirl's father, confesses to the crime. His motivation is a combination of personal reasons and orders from high up in the federal government. The government part wanted to frame Bruce Wayne. Going after Batman was the personal part. Cain is in prison, but there are some who would prefer him dead, so Batman now has to keep him alive as another assassin targets Cain. Also, Sasha, Wayne's former bodyguard, apparently dies in prison, only her body goes missing. Is she really dead? All these plots are finally resolved in the last volume of the series. While not as good as the previous two, mostly because it is wrapping loose ends, it is still a good story, and it is well worth reading. Overall, this was one of the best Batman series I have read in a while. Good overall characterization along with plenty of action.

It says "Volume 1" but this starts with "Bruce Wayne Murderer?" Begins, here, with Bruce on the lam, shedding that identity and becoming Batman with a vengeance. Meanwhile, his body guard (and maybe someone Bruce cared about a great deal) is convicted of the murder and sent to prison. Batman has pushed everyone away and refuses to clear the name of his alter ego. It is up to the rest of the team to follow the evidence and do it, then.

Despite being a collection of stories from three or four different comic runs, this three volume set was fairly coherent. I'm usually dismayed by these collections because they make little sense if you haven't been folllowing the monthly comics, but the larger story arc here allows the casual reader access.

Some of the art is flat out amazing--plenty of good Batman poses.

As if clearing his name isn't enough, Bruce still has to deal with the usual mobsters, Cain and Deathstroke, plus his former bodyguard, who remains in Blackgate prison, and undergoes a dramatic transformation in more ways than one. Oh, and Azreal has gone batty, no pun intended. The ending seems a little too "optimistic" for Batman, but at least we have Bruce back. A great relief indeed.

By this point I was getting exasperated by the length of this comic arc. The interaction between the extended Bat family is still the superlative strength of the narrative. Neither Bruce nor Batman can survive without the support from the Bat family. There is a lovely display of paternal feeling at the end from Batman to Cassandra, which is kind of sweet.

The final chapter of the Bruce Wayne: Fugitive wrapped up nicely. There were no more huge revelations and at times the book was light on the action. We get an ending to the story of Sasha Bordeaux and honestly, I didn't like it. It was well written, I just didn't like the choice the writer (Greg Rucka) made for her and Bruce. Having Cain wallow in jail with impending danger was a nice touch but that arc could have been expanded very easily. The art throughout was good with the exception of Damian Scott's Batgirl chapter. Overall, this was a fine, if not anti-climatic ending to an otherwise fantastic crossover event.

A great end to a fantastic arc. Although, the main story arc seems to finish about halfway through this volume. The "true" ending the writers wanted the reader to see lies beyond the Bruce Wayne identity working hand in hand with the Batman identity (one of the best issues of the series). That true ending was good, but not great. The chance at redemption not just for Batman, but his enemies, and in turn their enemies. Redemption for all! A little kitschy, but I get where they were going with it. Still, a solid series and even that can't ruin it.

I was relieved to read this graphic novel. It epitomizes the this I look for in such a book. Batman is he detective, garnering clues. He does cool acrobatics. Occasionally he gets into a fight, but that is not the main focus. And once in a while, he says thanks to a team mate, revealing there is humanity under his cowl.

The art was not what I wanted, but still good. This is the third in a series, the first two which I have not read. This s so good that it makes me want to read the other two.

Turns out the person who framed Bruce Wayne for murder was the only possible person who could have done it. Batman finally turns to his family for help clearing his name.

This is a nice conclusion to the long story that was Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive. It has fewer distractions from the primary storyline, and everything is wrapped up quite neatly.
