This was a good read. Nicole wants to have a baby. She asks her best friend to help and he agrees. However, she runs into her old crush Emory. The feelings they share complicate things between them. Thankfully, in the end everything works out and they get their happy ending.
Emery made a promise when he was eighteen to never touch Nicole. Hudson, her brother, was best friends with Emery. Nineteen years later, he worked at Bardot Medical Center as a doctor. He really hated his job. He never wanted to be a doctor. It was expected that he would because his father wanted him to follow in his footsteps. Nicole was a well-known fashion designer. She has been friends with Anthony since college. They came up with an idea to have a child together and be a fake couple. Anthony is gay but has not come out to his family. So they went to a clinic to get tested and have Nicole insemination done. One problem Anthony test came back and his aren't viable. Now they have to get a donor. As she's getting ready to leave, who does she slam into? None other than Emery. Her teenage crush. Why is he here? Should she ask him to be her donor? She doesn't know about the promise Emery made with Hudson. Emery had always wanted Nicole, but he kept his promise. She eventually asks him, but he has to think about it. She takes him to the beach where they used to when they were teenagers. He didn't know that she had the same feelings about him the whole time. One thing leads to another, and they have sex. The next day, he felt that she tricked him into getting her pregnant. That wasn't her intention. She wanted a baby with Anthony. and get them the family they both wanted so badly. She has been so busy with getting her line out for her next fashion show that she didn't think about going to the clinic to get insemination. Anthony asked if she had changed her mind? She told him, "Let's go now." They get there, take tests again, and she finds out she's already pregnant. She passed out and had to be taken to Bardot's undercover, so no one knows what happened. She didn't want Hudson or her family to find out. But who comes in to take care of her? Emery. He's worried about her safety and confidentiality. Once he finds out she is pregnant, he feels she used him. But, before they can get into it, Hudson shows up. She has to lie to him about Anthony, who is her fiance, and she's pregnant. As time goes on, the lies get bigger, and there is no turning back. In the meantime, Anthony gets a boyfriend. Everything gets crazy. Emery knows that Anthony is gay, but he seems not to be there for Nicole when she really needs him. Nicole and Emery get together sexually and talk about their feelings. She still has told him the baby is his. But, Emery already suspected that he was the father of her baby. Great story of promises that have to be broken to give the heart what it wants and needs. Loved all three people who want to have a family together. Loved that Emery and Nicole got the life they always wanted. Great story by Lauren Wood
This was a surprising one. It had me going throughout the whole book. There was also a lot going on. You had Nicole and Anthony’s story, then you also had Emery’s story. It was all just a bunch of drama and living on lies. It felt more like it was about Nicole than it was about Nicole and Emery and that’s where I think this fell short and why it gets a 4 from me. Add in barely spending time with each other, intimately or just as friends. There wasn’t a whole lot of romance in this which defeats the purpose or even writing a romance. On top of that, it took me a while to warm up to Nicole. I liked her in the other books but to be inside her head was frustrating. I wish she could have come clean about everything way sooner in the book than at the very last minute, up until the very last part of the book. To have her come to her senses that late in the story was annoying. I’m honestly fed up with these stubborn women I’ve come to read about in this series. After the ending of this book, I have no doubt the next one will be like that too. I’ve had an ongoing frustration with the women in these series and why I haven’t rated them as high as other books. Yet, the story is good, keeps me entertained and wanting to know what will happen making these books fall into the 4 category. I keep turning the page and going through them quickly so they must be doing something right. I thought this would be the last book in this series but Lauren surprised me by introducing two new characters at the end with vague information so she has to be writing a book about them at some point, and I’ll be here waiting for that to be released.
Emery and Nicole's brother are best friends. Emery promised to never make a move on Nicole at the beginning of his friendship with her brother. Nicole and a friend are pretending to be in a relationship and want to have a child together. Her friend is gay but hasn't come out to anyone but her. When he is tested to see if they could have a baby, it turns out he can't have children. Just as she is leaving the clinic Nicole runs into Emery and sparks fly between them. When they do get together Emery feels like she set him up to be used. However, it wasn't true, and Nicole tries to put their time together behind her. When she goes to the clinic with her friend to find a donor she is told that she is already pregnant. Will she tell Emery about the baby? Or will she keep quiet and raise it with her friend?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.
Emery is Nicole's brother's best friend but finds himself drawn to his little sister. She has become a doctor with a promising career but no family. When she agrees to start a family with her best friend the drama begins especially when her brother's best friend Emery comes back into the picture. Will they get their chance to finally find happiness or will it be with her gay best friend. This story kept me glued to the pages. I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
This story was full of conflict, intense emotions and friendship. Emery and Nicole have liked each other since they were younger but her brother makes Emery promise to never think of her or touch her as anything more than a friend. Almost 20 years later their feelings for each other result in something that becomes more complicated than either of them could imagine.
I received an ARC of this book and voluntarily leave this review.
