About the author

Nidhi Raichand

2 books6 followers
Nidhi Raichand often suspects that her life is secretly a sitcom. Set in Bangalore, the main cast includes Nidhi as the cool-headed, witty and lovable mom of two, working a corporate job while also trying to pursue her literary dreams. Her husband is played by Vishay, who is also very cool (not as cool as her, of course) and is often the cause of many of the show’s hijinks.

Two beautiful and spirited children round out the cast and ensure there’s never a dull moment. Recurring characters include lots of friends and family, office colleagues and an ever-rotating cast of cooks. All this against the backdrop of the beautiful skies and the not-so-beautiful roads of the city.

When not dealing with the crisis of the day, Nidhi enjoys reading, watching ’90s shows and movies, travelling and long walks while listening to podcasts. Her catchphrase is ‘Oh ‑fish!’ (this is a family-friendly sitcom, after all).

‘Moms In The Wild’ talks about the dark side of the social media.

It is a dark, funny, and razor-sharp story about the perilous world of social media, replete with murderous secrets, complicated lies, and how far people will go to keep them.

The book follows Sneha Talwar, an idealistic young reporter on an assignment to profile Natasha Babani, an environmental activist and multi-talented mommy-influencer. But before Sneha can get started, Natasha's body is found floating in the lake she was working to clean up.

As Sneha investigates Natasha's death, she uncovers a whole 'mommy universe' that thrives on its own rules, rivalries, and intrigues. She also learns that Natasha was not the perfect person she seemed to be. She had secrets, and she made enemies.

Sneha must race against time to find out who killed Natasha and why. Along the way, she learns a lot about the dark side of social media, the lengths people will go to to protect their secrets, and the importance of friendship and family.

Moms in the Wild is a well-written and suspenseful novel. Nidhi Raichand does an excellent job of creating believable characters and a compelling plot. The book is full of humor, but it also has a serious message about the dangers of social media and the importance of truth.

I highly recommend Moms in the Wild to anyone who enjoys a good mystery or a well-written satire. It is a thought-provoking and entertaining read.

The book's writing effortlessly flows, allowing readers to devour it in just a few sittings. While the plot may not be overly complex, the story progresses through the intricate lives of its characters.

The book derives much of its action from the everyday events that unfold in the lives of the main characters.

Rather than being uproariously funny, the book exudes dark and witty humor. It offers a delectable indulgence as it delves into the private lives of these affluent, fiercely competitive mothers.

Similar to our intrepid reporter Sneha, readers find themselves irresistibly drawn into their world, with no easy means of escape.

Moms in the Wild is audaciously dark, hilariously witty, and narrates a razor-sharp tale, delving deeper into the cutthroat world of social media and journalism.

In her debut book, Nidhi has achieved what many authors may take decades to do – she has served us writing that is unique, fresh, entertaining, and addictive.

Is the mommy lioness invincible? And how does a naïve young reporter find out?

As I was departing Bengaluru’s Kempegowda Airport late one Sunday, I popped into a Relay bookstore in search of something new that would stoke my fancy. As if on cue, Moms in the Wild by Nidhi Raichand, with its wild and technicoloured cover, caught my eye — and boy am I glad I bought this book, since it paints exactly the picture of the Garden City’s high-society elite that I had read so often about Gurgaon or Bandra. That this is the work of a debutant called Nidhi — which brought to mind the spellbinding That Night and I Hear You by Nidhi Upadhyay — was enough to make me buy the book, so piqued was I. But was I right to judge this book by its cover? Partly.

Sneha Talwar is a bright-eyed, idealistic young reporter for Cactus, a lifestyle news website (not quite BuzzFeed, whose quizzes are a character of their own in this book), who thinks the world needs more ambition and less sensation. That gets upended when her first assignment — to interview the larger-than-life supermom Natasha Babani — is terrifyingly thwarted when Natasha is found floating, dead, in the same lake she was trying to clean. Meanwhile there is the little matter of Sneha’s roommate and lifelong friend, Aalia, being not very pleased with her little-too-much fondness of another sweet-talking member of that bunch, Jaya, who might not be dripping with honey after all.

Thereafter starts the game of lies, competition and good looks called Motherhood that Sneha finds herself in the middle of. With names like Smita and Sana, each animal in this jungle has her own status and position in the pecking order, trying to ensure that nothing and nobody can come in the way of their Vaanya or Ahaan being the NUMBER ONE in absolutely everything — but as long as Queen Lioness Natasha was around, that wasn’t exactly easy. Now that she’s gone, what happens to the giraffes and the elephants and the hardworking ants and the lone wolves who prowl around five-stars condominiums and complexes, who wage a nasty war in the fighting-grounds called IB schools?

This book left me in two minds. On the one hand, Nidhi nails the descriptions of the power-hungriness of the mom pack perfectly, as well as the ostentatiousness of their luxury abodes, their keeping-up-with-the-Kapoors Instagram-momfluencer image and the ruthlessness and deception they will not shy away from stooping down to. The relationship between Sneha and Aalia, who doesn’t think twice before supporting her, is also beautifully explored. But I also feel much of these descriptions were a bit generic, and could apply to any posh locale from Greater Kailash to Bandra: this doesn’t really scream ‘Bangalore’ like Andaleeb Wajid’s works do, or ‘Mumbai’ like Shabnam Minwalla’s suspenses. Still, I’ll be kind and give three-and-a-half out of five, because man, that write-up on the animals in the jungle should be published on its own, it’s that singularly powerful.

MOMS IN THE WILD - NIDHI RAICHAND
4⭐

PLOT - Sneha Talwar is a young and upcoming reporter and her 1st assignment features Natasha Babani - an environmental activist and down to earth mommy influencer but before she can start Sneha finds Natasha's body floating in the lake which she was trying to conserve.
Now while writing her profile Sneha finds a while new world called "mommy universe" and she is baffled and deeply intrigued .

MY THOUGHTS -
I will be honest I actually went to read thinking this will be a suspense thriller involving Natasha s death but in reality it was just the foundation for Sneha to encounter the whole world revolving around new mums who want to be nothing but the best , trying to upstage the other in the world of social media and influencers.
I hv an 8yr old and living in south mumbai I definitely resonated with the whole analogy with jungle animals it was imo brilliantly done...the satire and dark humour had me chuckling as it's the truth whether you admit to it or not and forget Banglore where the book is based it happens everywhere!!!
I am not getting much into it as it will take away the charm while you read .
As a debut it was a good attempt at humour and satire surrounding social media, friendships , mommy wars and even journalism!

Now, this one was really the read I was looking for to delve into during the weekend. It was breezy, crisp, and the right dose of chaos. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I picked up this book but I am glad I did.

This book was satirical at the right places and so relatable at so many points. The competitive world of social media and its influencers was portrayed tactfully, adding bits of humor to it. I could also relate to the whole motherhood aspect, not from the point of view of a mother but rather from the pov of a teacher who has to deal with children and their parents competing with each other at every step.

I had a bittersweet feeling about Sneha’s character – she was cool at times but then she would do something that irritated the heck out of me. I didn’t really see much development in her character which I would have liked. However, I liked Aalia’s character a lot.

I enjoyed the narration in the book and the sharp delivery of the writing style which I think complimented the story well. All in all, I would definitely recommend this book to you if you are looking for something easy breezy yet engaging to read.

Natasha Babani, 44 years old Bangalore woman who wore several hats, including entrepreneur, fitness enthusiast, budding social media influencer, painter, accountant, environmental activist, loving partner and the one she was most proud of-mother.

Sneha, a young journalist excited about her first project to interview Natasha, all pumped up with questions to ask her only to find out a dead body was found floating in the same neighborhood lake that Natasha had worked so hard to clean. And it was Natasha indeed!

Told in the POV of Sneha, who doesn’t give up and continues to follow up with Natasha’s peers and family to unfold the untold story about this noble woman which is not so good after all.

A Witty yet dark read about friendship, journalism, power of social media, will keep you smirking more than giggling.

The pace was a bit slow for my liking but for a debut novel, I liked the flow and mostly relatable characters. Would recommend if you’re into dark humour.

I just finished reading Moms in the Wild. In one word - brilliant! Without giving away the plot/ theme (Read synopsis by Goodreads or Amazon about the adventures of, and comical observations by, Sneha Talwar the rookie journalist), I will just say that it's hard to believe it is Nidhi Raichand's first book. It is written flawlessly. At times funny ( " I started to feel guilty about my underreaction to this whole thing"), at times philosophical, at times a bit dark, at times astute (replete with observations and commentaries about social-hierarchical strata and resultant situations), always engrossing. The philosophical-comical-satirical chapter that is at the core of the book - again, not trying to give away the story - is as hilarious as it is reflective and real. All in all, a fun, fun read. Loved it.

Moms in the Wild is a witty, engaging, fast paced & a very relatable page turner!
.
The book follows the experiences of Sneha Talwar as she discovers the layers that the new generation moms have. She stumbled upon the mom world while on a case & boy, she was in for a big adventure!
.
Being a mom & an influencer myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. So many times did I find myself thinking ‘exactly’ & giving a big eye-roll!!
.
As I mentioned earlier, I thoroughly enjoyed the book & would surely recommend this! Especially to the new age mommies!! Looking forward to read more from the author.

This was such a fun read! Moms in the Wild dives straight into the madness of modern motherhood - momfluencer showdowns, social media spirals, condo politics - basically, the whole circus. Nidhi Raichand has a sharp eye for the ridiculous and the real, and she weaves it all together in a way that feels effortless.

What I really loved was the way the book explores friendships across generations. There’s a warmth to it that sneaks up on you, making this more than just a funny, fast-paced read.

Highly recommend if you want something sharp, entertaining, and unexpectedly thoughtful. Looking forward to seeing what Raichand writes next.

Just finished reading the book; read more than 100 pages in one day as the second half was super compelling.

Am still reeling from its BRILLIANCE: story, language, humour, plot and Sneha’s character and how the media world turns, well, the most innocent of scribes into, well, super sellers.
And what imagination dear girl !! It's literally a jungle out there !!

I am just wondering how our little niece has turned into this master crafter(of words and a plot) and the ‘Queen’ herself. Turning the pages back, she gives herself away when she dedicated the book to, her ‘cubs’

A super fun easy read. Hard to put down. I had to steal myself from my children. The high point for me was the chapter on wildlife depicting the various kinds of moms found in schools today. You couldn’t avoid casting people in those moulds the author has so vividly created.

Moms in the Wild was indeed a fun and wild ride full of surprises and rumours and spicy food and women talk and what more do you want? I devoured it in a day!!

Young and vibrant Journalist Sneha is tasked to follow and interview local activist/influencer Natasha and just before she's scheduled to meet the woman in person, she finds herself looking at Natasha's dead body floating in the same neighborhood lake that the influencer had worked hard to clean. So much for a job huh!?

What follows is Sneha's amateur attempts to keep up her job and follow as much info as possible from Natasha's friends and family and her mom-group and in doing so, she stumbles upon some unexpected characters and soon she gets to know that the dead woman wasn't as noble as she once appeared to be and someone might have had a grudge on her to have silent!!

What a delicious gift to myself. Perfect snack if you like smart, funny, women's sleuths that are set in your own country!

Weekend Read 🌟

The story starts with a new journalist to a wild world name Sneha. Sneha finally gets her first project to interview the famous Natasha Babani, a social activist, mother and social media influencer.
While Sneha was amazed by Natasha talking on the phone to take follow-ups for the interview was as shocked when she found Natasha dead when met.
Was it a mere coincidence? Or a real strategic murder?
Our shocked Sneha tries to recover from the trauma while finding out about the non-mysterious yet mysterious death of Natasha Babani.

The female friendship between Sneha and Alia is just amazing. The friend we live for, and fight for but can never be without. 5/5🌟

Hidden secret behind the social media influencer life. Smile on the face for the cam and words behind the hashtag. 4/5🌟

Overall this is a fun not so dark, humorous story for a quick fun weekend read. 4/5🌟
