Updated Review 10/23/25: Oh, how I adore these characters! I found Momo's "jealousy" refreshing because I think this volume further proved/showed she really does like Ichikura. I think the same could be said about him in the way that he told Momo about his dream for the future, as well as how "excited" he was to go with her on a date.
Buttttt…
The best part of the volume is seeing her stand up to someone she thought was a "rival" and explain why she likes Ichikura. It made my heart have all the warm fuzzies! I also admired her courage to "fight" for Ichikura even if she felt she didn't really have anything going for her. (Girl, yes you do!) I don't think she realizes just how brave she really is!
I will say that I LOVE this new character! She's awesome, and I know I'll only love her more as the series keeps going, as I loved seeing her wanting to make friends and asking Momo for help!
This volume, of course, ended on a cliffhanger, and I, of course, can't wait to read more in the next volume! These characters are so wonderful!
Original Review 5/13/24: I CAN'T STOP READING!!!! EEEEEPPPPP!!!
This was a fun arc of the series and really enjoyed Momose taking a stand, even though all her worries really were for nothing. LOL! Also loved hearing Ichikura's dream and seeing how happy he is now, especially with Momose by his side. <3
Really really enjoying all the characters we're meeting and seeing more of! Definitely continues to be a VERY fun and enjoyable read! I feel I'm having the time of my life reading it! SQUEALS!
Short review: this made me laugh out loud twice. I don’t remember the last time that happened.
If it has taken a little while for this to find its footing after it wound up in serialization, it has more than justified the choice to keep going. I rarely say that for something that had a clear endpoint, but dang this is just the silliest good time.
The dramatic cliffhanger from last volume where Ichikura’s secret past is revealed gets blown past in a wildly funny wave of ‘no duh’. Everybody’s reactions and explanations are just spot on.
Now that the story has no real stakes, it instead pivots to be a real satisfactory hang with some goofballs and I am all about it. The romance is adorable, the hi-jinx are nonsense, and it all blends together to go down smooth.
I was particularly tickled to see the gyaru character come back and having her absolute confidence on full blast is one of the funniest moments in the whole volume. The core trio (now that Igarashi is friends with Ichikura he hangs around like a needy puppy - it’s great) have enough other people to bounce off plus themselves and that helps keep it fresh.
The big new character here is the prim and proper Sakyo, who also happens to be a much less successful transition from the delinquent lifestyle than Ichikura. She wants Momose’s help, but the latter thinks she’s being called out.
I mean, the plotting is daft and it knows it’s daft. The whole Sakyo thing is obvious from moment one, but it still manages to be incredibly amusing because Momose is ridiculous enough to believe it anyway. The moment she compares herself to Momose is another killer sight gag.
The other side of all this is Momose and Ichika’s relationship, which remains as teeth-rottingly sweet as ever. Even better, no cringe moments from Ichika this volume, so I could just enjoy the silly.
The two of them talking about their dreams is great and all, but I particularly like that Momose is just that smidgen more unabashedly thirsty than most manga girls. She is absolutely into Ichika’s body and might be embarrassed, but won’t be letting that stop her, provided her workout routine doesn’t kill her first.
This doesn’t need to exist, but I am very happy it does. After a brief wobble it has roared back to its natural baseline of being such a damn fun time and while I am apt to use ‘fun’ way too often, there’s no better way to describe this whole series.
4 stars - I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop here, but it ended up being thrown instead. I love this as an uncomplicated laugh with a really sweet side to it.
