I picked up this book to read because I was curious. The idea of devoting time to loving yourself, doing things for yourself, trying to make yourself feel better—especially if you’re a woman, well, it can go against the grain, the way many women are brought up—to be kind, to be giving, to give your all to everyone—your family, etc. no matter what happens in your life. You must be strong, push forward.

I’m so glad I did. The author does a fantastic job of explaining why loving yourself is important, and she does so from every angle imaginable. She examines the physical, the psychological, the trauma we inherit from our past or from a broken relationship and explains how it all interweaves to create the way we think and act, the kind of person we present to the world, and how being aware will help us heal. Learning how to love yourself is a journey. It is a day-to-day experience.

This is a book every woman should read for I believe there will be something in it for everyone. She relates compelling examples that illustrate it is never too late to find healing from even the worst traumas. Based on research, she makes a valid case. 5 stars.

3 ½ – A Thoughtful Guide to Self-Love

As women, we’re often taught to put others first—our families, our responsibilities—sometimes at the cost of our own well-being. This book challenges that mindset and encourages self-love as an essential, not selfish, act.

The author does a fantastic job of breaking down self-love from multiple angles—physical, psychological, and even the inherited trauma that shapes our perceptions of ourselves. She provides compelling examples of how healing is always possible, no matter what we’ve been through. The book is rooted in research and offers simple, practical strategies for building self-esteem, incorporating positive affirmations, and prioritizing self-care. The mindfulness exercises and aromatherapy tips were creative touches that added depth to the experience.

That said, while the book is an excellent starting point, some of the advice felt a bit basic for those who have already explored self-development. A little more depth or unique insight would have elevated it further. However, for anyone new to the self-love journey, this is a solid, encouraging read that provides actionable steps toward a healthier mindset.
