Reluctant Hearts #3

Paige in Progress

Rate this book
She wanted a one-night stand…and then he moved in next door.

Paige
It was only supposed to be a single night. Nothing more than an easy, completely hot, mind blowing evening with my best friend’s surrogate brother. Except my once-safe one-night stand no longer lives a thousand miles away. Adam’s back in town…and living directly across the hall. Relegating our crazy chemistry to a single night was a lot easier when he wasn’t my neighbor. When he didn’t strut around the apartment building every day, taunting me with his should-be-illegal body. And being with him again isn’t a possibility. Because Adam wants forever, and all I’m interested in is right now.

Adam
Having Paige once wasn’t enough. Hell, having her five times that night wasn’t enough, either. It only made me hungrier for her. She doesn’t want more than a quick lay, but I’m in it for the long haul with her. So I’ll play by her rules and be her friend, while giving her what she needs when she needs it. But I’m not above using every tool in my arsenal to make her come around and show her what she really wants is right in front of her.

Award-winning USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent nearly a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love: writing. When she’s not lost in her own made up worlds, she’s probably either reading or shopping—maybe even both at once. She lives in the Midwest with her real life hero of a husband, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore, frequent dance parties (okay, so it's mostly her, by herself, while her children look on in horror), and more laughter than she thought possible. I absolutely loved this one! It is part 3 in series, but can be read as a standalone so don't let it deter you from giving it a chance. You may fall in love with author's writing style and try others too. I know I will. Anyway, the writing was flawless, the humour was great, banter between MCs awesome and all other interactions with secondary characters too. Not to mention it was hot as f***.

Adam and Paige hooked up a while ago, six months pass and Adam has to come back to his hometown to help his parents. There is this undeniable chemistry between them, the only problem is, Paige is a one-night stand kind of girl and Adam has relationship material written all over him. They don't seem perfect for each other at the beginning but somehow they are.
“She was gorgeous. Like, drop-dead, is-this-girl-real gorgeous. And until that night, I didn’t realize what a contradiction she is, because she isn’t just a bombshell. She’s a bombshell with the mouth of a sailor and an attitude to match it. It shouldn’t turn me on. She shouldn’t turn me on. I like my women petite and a little shy. Even-keeled and mellow. Paige is none of those things. She’s loud and vibrant and passionate and crass. She looks like a supermodel and acts like a trucker, and I love it, but I have no idea why.”

“You fucked Adam. My sweet, caring, relationship-loving Adam had a one-night stand with you, that’s what you’re telling me.” I huff out a breath and roll my eyes. “He might be your sweet, caring, relationship-loving Adam, but to me, he’s just the guy who fucked me against my front door. And over the arm of my couch. And laid me out on the dining room table and feasted on me until I was hoarse from screaming.”
I adored both Paige and Adam, adored their slowly growing relationship, turning from friends to lovers, I adored their weekly non-dates and all the lovely names Adam kept coming up with for Paige, and there was a lot of them and they were so darn cute.

Overall, it was one on a cute, adorable side, if you want something light, sweet and sexy with swoony hero and kickass heroine, you should read this one. Highly recommend!

This one was different. I really liked it.
It's the third book in a series but the first one I've read. I had no problems keeping up.
Paige has been burned when she was younger. She gave up everything and moved away to be with the guy she loved only to find him cheating on her. So she's strictly a one night stand no relationship kind of girl. She's not going to be going through that again. But 6 months ago she slept with a guy that's best friends with her best friends boyfriend. She can't quit thinking about him and the hot sex they had all night so she tells her friend that she doesn't like him so she won't talk about him.
Adam isn't into one night stands. He's strictly into relationships until one night with Paige. He hasn't stopped thinking about their night together and he's not sure why everybody says she hates him. Adam is back in town for the summer to help his parents get their shop out of the red. He needs a place to stay instead of his parents so when he finds out the loft across from Paige is available he moves in. He will get her under him again one way or another.
Paige and Adam were smoking hot together. Whew!
I liked how Adam pulled out all his tricks to keep Paige coming back for more with his non-date dates. I laughed many times with how competitive Paige was. She was a shit loser. lol They were cute. I loved all he popped off all these pet names for her.
Now why didn't I 5 star it?
I felt that both of their inner thoughts throughout most of the book was about how hot or sexy each of them are. They thought a lot about sex. So much I started skimming some of it. But other than that it was a light on the drama and a sexy read.

Brighton Walsh knows what I want and need in a hero. Each time she releases a new book, I find myself falling not only for the sexy heroes she creates, but the stories she tells, and Paige in Progress might just be my favorite story she’s told so far.

Paige is the girl every single one of us wants as a best friend. She’s smart, she’s sexy, she’s got a mouth like a sailor and doesn’t apologize for taking what she wants. She’s well on her way to getting her dream job, as long as those on the police force can look past her Barbie doll good looks and take her seriously. She’s determined to get the job she’s worked so hard for and she’s certainly not going to let the guy who was supposed to be just a one night stand throw her off course.

Which leads me to your next book boyfriend guys.

Adam Reid.

You guys, one thing you almost never read about in New Adult or even Romance in general is a guy who wants a relationship… But Adam, he’s a relationship guy, he’s always been a relationship guy … he wants the permanence and the commitment and he wants it from Paige.

But how do you convince the girl of your dreams to give up hers because Adam really lives in Denver. He’s just here in Michigan helping his parents dig their sporting goods store out of the red and then he’s heading back to the new city he calls home.

Paige is so NOT a relationship girl and she has her reasons why, but she can’t deny the connection they have between them, and once she comes to the conclusion that this is really just a short term thing because he’s leaving, she finally gives in … and it’s all kinds of amazing.

I’m going to tell you something. It’s not a secret… Jase (from Tessa Ever After) is my guy, and he always will be because Jaaaaaase, but Adam, yeah, he’s a VERY close second in that favorite list. He’s the whole package ladies, and I promise you will fall in love.

Each book in this series can be read as a standalone for sure, but you absolutely should read them all because I promise, you’ll love everything about them.

These stories are all pretty light on drama and heavy on steam and sexy times, which is something I love, but there is always an amazing story that Walsh has crafted and like I said, this just might be my favorite… maybe. I have a serious soft spot for Tessa Ever After… I might have to read them back to back to make the official call.

If you haven’t started The Reluctant Hearts series do it… if you’re only waiting for Paige in Progress, grab this immediately upon release. AND I’d just like to say that I can’t wait for more from Walsh.

WOAH! Brighton Walsh sure knows how to bring steam to her pages and write some seriously swoony boys. I've been so impressed with her books in the past, so Paige in Progress was a must read for me, especially because I also DEMANDED a Paige and Adam book along with some other bloggers! She did an amazing job with this coupling and I just couldn't get enough of them.

I've loved Paige since the moment we met her in the previous book, but I think I fell a little more in love with her here as I got to know her character so intimately. First, I love that she was a beautiful woman who knew exactly how beautiful she was. It can be a little annoying for us readers to read about pretty NA girls who don't realize just how pretty they are until the love interest comes along. Anyways, I digress. Paige wasn't just a pretty girl though, she was also super smart and worked really hard to reach her career goals. Seriously, this girl was so empowering. Add to that her lack of filter, she was one hilarious character. Of course, she wasn't entirely perfect, like I'm making her sound - she had her insecurities and her grievances too.

More than I loved Paige, I loved Adam. Oh my goodness, you guys! I swooned so hard over this guy. Are you tired of all the manwhores who are wary of relationships is NA books? Then look no further because Adam was completely and wholeheartedly a relationship guy. Can I just gush on and on about how much I loved that? It was so refreshing to read from the POV of a guy who was all about commitment and who did not indulge in repeated one-night stands (not that there's anything wrong with that)! Adam was going through his own crisis in Paige in Progress with him having relocated back to his home after his parents business suffered. He was at that point his life where he wasn't sure what his priorities should be and I really connected with that.

Paige and Adam's relationship started off with one heck of a steamy one-night stand and that really set up the tone of their relationship. These two had so much chemistry together! You could probably cook a meal with the heat they were giving off (LOL - I can't believe I typed this!). What I loved most about them as a couple though was how they decided to be friends before the jumped into bed again. I loved the "dates" they planned for each other and I had fun watching them just be around each other. Their banter, their flirting and their companionship were really the highlight of the book for me. Of course, there's always the separation that usually pops up towards the end of a book, but it wasn't contrived and nor was it stretched out.

I was also thrilled to be reunited with the couples from the previous stories in the Reluctant Hearts series, especially Jase and Tessa! I loved the bromances between Adam, Jase and Cade. They were so funny and inappropriate together - they had me giggling a million times throughout the book! :) I loved the friendship between Tessa and Paige too and I love how they were so comfortable around each other that they weren't afraid to be honest. I was definitely a little bit envious of their relationship! I want a friendship like that IRL. Besides the old characters, we were also introduced to a set of new characters, Paige's brothers, and just to let you know how intrigued I was by them, I promptly tweeted Brighton Walsh and told her I needed their books too. Luckily for me, she's writing an adult spin-off series for them!

Paige in Progress was entertaining, romantic and sexy from start to finish with a feisty heroine and a determined hero. If you enjoy your NA books on the lighter side when it comes to drama and on the heavier side when it comes to romance and steam, this book and this whole series are must-reads! Trust me, you won't regret reading these.

Adam might be my favorite...just saying.

I don’t know what else to say about Brighton Walsh’s books that will convey the love I have for her stories and characters. She knows exactly what I am looking for in my romance novels…fantastic characters, a bit of swoon, some sexy times, and a story that pulls me in.

Paige is one of those characters that when I started this book I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about her but in the end, I loved her. Paige is smart, she works hard, she loves her family, and she isn’t afraid to go after what she wants…or say what she wants. After getting burned in a relationship in the past, Paige only does hookups but the one kink in that these days is Adam Reid. Paige thought he would be one night of great sex but he continues to occupy space in her thoughts and she isn’t ok with that…she has other things to worry about. Like her internship and getting the job of her dreams.

So…Adam. He might actually be my favorite of all of Walsh’s heroes. There is so much about him that makes me love him – he is smart (he even has the nerdy glasses), he isn’t afraid of a challenge, he can be swoony, he’s absolutely sexy, and of course, he loves his family. The other thing about Adam is that he also wants a relationship…the challenge is that he wants that relationship with Paige – which, as I mentioned, is not her thing. Just trust me when I say, while all the guys are great, there’s just something (or a lot of things) about Adam that put him at the top of the list.

I loved these two together and the way Walsh builds their story and weaves it around the existing characters of this series (Cade, Winter, Tessa, and Jase) made me want to read all the other books again. I also loved seeing these characters with their families. Paige’s relationships with her brothers and her parents was fantastic. Selfishly I hope Walsh considers writing more about her brother’s stories as I am definitely curious about them. I also thought it was great to get some insight into Adam’s relationship with his parents. Both pieces added a layer to the story that we didn’t necessarily have in the other books.

As these two try to figure out what they want from each other, they are also trying to figure out things in other areas of their lives. Paige is fighting for a job after her internship and doing her best to prove that she belongs at the police station (and not just because her brother works there). Adam is only back in town to help his parents…he has always planned to go back to Denver. This is the sticking point for both – he absolutely feels he has to go back and Paige isn’t about to give up the opportunity she has earned. Now you have to read the book to find out what happens!

Trust me, if you love romance books you should absolutely be reading Brighton Walsh’s stuff. Her characters are real and her stories are engaging. She also writes heroes in a way that will have you wondering why fictional characters can’t be real. Go get Paige in Progress because you don’t want to miss out on this one and definitely consider the other books in the series.

There were no Reluctant Hearts when it came to this series. At least, not for me. After reading and loving Tessa Ever After, I jumped at the chance to get to know more about Paige and Adam, because this series has proven to be all the things I love about books—funny, cute, sexy, hot and happy. And this story was no exception.

Paige doesn't do repeats. Relationships have taken a backseat to her dream career—which she is finally within reach of—after a disastrous one nearly derailed her entire life plan. So a one-night-stand with Adam Reid, who lives and works in Denver, seemed like a good idea at the time. After all, it’s not like she'd see him all that often…

Except, months later Paige can't stop thinking about him. And with him back in town to help save his parents’ store from bankruptcy—not to mention, moving in just across the hall—she's having trouble steering clear and fighting the attraction. Especially since Adam's never been a one-night guy—and all he wants is more time with Paige…and a maybe even to find a way into her heart.

Oh, Adam. Aren't you just the dreamiest? I loved Cade and Jason in the first two books of this series, but Adam is definitely my favorite. Between his steady, solid, loving demeanor, and his dirty, dirty words, I was completely hooked on him. He wanted a relationship—has always been a monogamous kind of guy—but that's not to say he wasn't alpha hot when he wanted to be. His commanding presence in the bedroom, and the way he used his smarts to trick Paige into something she never knew she wanted, was just delightful. Swoonworthy, if ever I saw it.

And it's not like Paige was a wash, either. She was sassy, strong and well aware that her stunning good-looks made people underestimate her and, as a consequence, was willing to work harder for what she wanted. She matched Adam perfectly; pushing him out of his comfort zone and opening his eyes to a world of possibility, while simultaneously learning more about herself. Perfect. She showed growth throughout this book and while her damage—a previous relationship gone awry—might have seemed too far distant to have such an impact, Brighton Walsh handled her concerns about love skillfully. I fully believed that Paige fully believed that love wasn't in her cards.

Add in the oftentimes hilarious moment with Cade and Winter, and Jason and Tessa, and Paige in Progress hit all the right notes for the third book in a series. Enough of the before to keep you up to date and remind you of the good times, and plenty of new moments to drool, smile, laugh and ache over. I sense that this may be the end of this series, but I hope not. Paige has two older brothers, right? So… ~ Beth, 5 stars

My favorite in the series!

Paige Bennett and Adam Reid have mutual friends between them. When they hooked up, it was going to be a one-time, secret thing. It was that but it was also the best they’d ever had. Hot, no holds barred, toe-curling best-sex-ever kind of best. But that was it. That was all it could be. Easy to accomplish when they lived in separate cities. What happens, though, when that is no longer the case?

I loved this funny story that was fueled on sexual tension from beginning to end. Paige was beautiful but also smart and determined. A tomboy at heart, she could girly-dazzle or throat-punch equally well. Adam was her handsome counterpart that matched her equally well in all things (or so it seemed to me). More laid back for sure but no less motivated when it came to career or family.

The conversations, whether between the main couple or their friends, were natural and hilariously funny. I’m not sure which I enjoyed more, the sexual escapades between Paige and Adam (they were stellar and panty-melting) or the laugh out loud dialogue between. I found myself highlighting, highlighting and highlighting some more so I could go back and enjoy them again.

“Against my skin, he says, “Your p***y seems to like me just fine.”
“She’s a very bad judge of character.”
“Stop being such a testicle…”

I may not have “gotten” exactly why Paige’s past made her so adamant that long-term relationships wouldn’t work, but who am I to question bruising of the heart? I do know it created a dance between her and Adam that was fun to watch. The ending was a bit abrupt though satisfying at the same time. I know, it’s hard to explain but when you read it you will understand. You know, I probably was just miffed that it had to end at all.

I can’t wait for more from this author! ~ Diane, 4.5 stars

Brighton Walsh knocked it out of the park with this one!! I absolutely loved it. Best in the series for me.

Paige is my kind of heroine, smart, sassy and a bit of a tomboy! I also loved Adam, it's so refreshing to have a hero that's not in any way a manwhore but actually a relationship kind of guy. But I have to say he was pretty alpha when he needed to be and I loooooved him!

It was great to catch up with the rest of the characters, this can easily be read as a standalone but you'd be missing out on a really great series.

Definitely adding this author to my auto-buy list!

I've loved Paige since the first line she spoke, so I was beyond thrilled to find out we were getting her story.

I adore Paige's snark and attitude, her foul mouth and her complete loyalty. She is easily someone I would want to hang out with, even knowing we'd probably end up in jail. As for Adam...I don't have words for that boy. He's delicious. Hopefully that explains it all.

The best thing about Brighton's books is that I'm guaranteed a HEA, so even if everything goes to shit {like it inevitably does}, I don't have to skip to the end first. And the epilogue for this story is damn near perfection.

As always, if you haven't picked up Brighton's books, do yourself a favor.

**Huge thanks to Brighton for sending me the arc**

Brighton Walsh fast became one of my favorite authors after reading just one of her books. Her romances just click with me, and there's no denying that she writes sexual tension and chemistry and swoon-worthy heroes as good as or better than anyone. Paige in Progress is no exception. Once again I fell totally in love with her characters, and the dynamic between feisty, bold, firecracker Paige and confident, sexy, heart-on-his-sleeve Adam was unsurprisingly perfect. They had me laughing and fanning myself and, most importantly, rooting for them like crazy. Plus it was great being back with the entire gang. The couples in this series will forever be some of my favorites!

I really liked this one. Not quite as much as Tessa Ever After, but it was awesome to see the entire group (Winter and Cade, Jase and Tessa, and Paige and Adam) all interacting throughout this book. So much payoff for the earlier couples, and another really solid journey for this book's main characters. I really, really liked this series!

LOVED. Though, not as much as Tessa Ever After. I have such a soft spot for that book, and for Jason (Sorry, Adam).

My Review!
This wasn’t my favorite in the series, but I did love it! I knew I was going to love Paige from the moment she stepped onto the pages (heh) in the first two books, and that never changed one bit. This girl is fierce, loyal, independent, take-charge, and super adorable. I loved that she was not afraid to speak her mind and go after what she wanted, whether that be the internship and job she so desperately desired or a guy she picked up at the bar to have a one-night stand with. Paige doesn’t do relationships, but there’s one man she can’t forget or stop thinking about, no matter how hard she tries.

Adam. Who knew the quiet, even-tempered guy would be such an Alpha both in the bedroom and outside of it? His control and arrogance turns Paige on, even though she doesn’t want it to. Even though she doesn’t want a relationship, she can’t fight their attraction and chemistry. And before they know it, the two of them are caught up in a romance, with non-dates and couple activities, that looks suspiciously like a relationship. And it scares Paige away, but Adam isn’t having it. Though I didn’t exactly agree with his... ultimatum, for lack of a better word, I did understand how he couldn’t have just what she wanted him to have anymore. It wasn’t working out for either of them, because Paige was too terrified to try again, and Adam couldn’t settle for anything less. But as it’s wont to do in romance books, the two of them do find a happy ending that made me just absolutely melt. It was beautiful to see Paige open up and find a love that was worth wading through all the shit for. And I’m so glad it was Adam, who challenged her and took care of her, and made her feel truly wanted.

I adored Adam’s and Paige’s story! I especially loved that it wasn’t completely focused on the romance, and that there were loads of family and friend scenes between my favorite characters from before, and new ones that I came to love. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the Cade, Winter, Tessa, Haley, and Jason (!!!) cameos. And I loved the additions of Tanner and Dillon, Paige’s two older brothers, and Adam’s parents. They made the story feel that much richer. But what really got me was the romance. Adam and Paige had amazing and HOT chemistry, but it wasn’t just in the bedroom. They really were made for each other. :D

More Reviews Here: Readers Live A Thousand Lives

This is one of my favorite new adult series and when I heard we were getting Paige's book I was ecstatic. I adored her in Tessa Ever After and I knew her and Adam together would deliver a great read and I wasn't wrong. This is everything I love about new adult.

Paige is awesome. I love her and her sarcasm and wit and intelligence. I also love that she takes stereotypes and throws them out the window. But damn did I want to shake this girl. She has some serious commitment issues and while she has good reason it didn't stop me from wanting to shake her. She pushed Adam really hard and put up a bunch of walls; there were times where I worried if she was going to push too far.

Adam, like all of Brighton's guys, delivered the swoon. Holy wow he was awesome. His nick names had me cracking up. I loved that he was such a good guy and that he was the one who was looking for a relationship. The switch in the normal gender roles was really great.

Now I know it's not his book but I have to talk about Jason because that boy is a scene stealer. He is hysterical and I cannot get enough of him. Just simple scenes where he is failing at playing mini golf had me cracking up. Maybe it's because he is my favorite, but any time he showed up he became the center of attention. His interactions with Adam were absolutely hysterical. So yeah still love Jason and I was surprised by how he managed to steal the show.

Other than all of that though, I also love that this book isn't just about the relationship between Adam and Paige. It also spotlights the importance of friendship (strong female friendship for the win) and family. Paige and Tessa have such a strong and positive friendship and I love that. And the friendship between Adam, Jason, and Cade is also great. The book demonstrates how friends are supposed to be and are not there to cause problems and drama or be forgotten the minute someone gets a significant other. On the family front, Paige's brothers were awesome and Adam's mom was adorable.

Paige In Progress was a great read and everything I love about the new adult genre. I am so glad we got Adam and Paige's story!

LOVED Paige in Progress!

I'm a huge fan of Brighton Walsh's work and once again she's written a wonderful, entertaining and heartwarming read with characters that will touch your heart.

Both Paige and Adam were soooooo good together. Loved their banter, their humor, their passion and their chemistry was off the charts!!! **fans self**

description

Another major plus for me was having all the boys together. Jason, Cade and Adam cracked me up so many times, seriously they were a hoot but what I loved most was even though they might joke and poke fun at each other they wouldn't hesitate to step up and help each other out when needed.

This book ticked all boxes for me, my interest was captured from the first page, I was drawn into Paige and Adam's story and that epilogue was perfection!!!!

I'm so happy Brighton Walsh wrote Paige and Adam's story, it's a great addition to the Reluctant Hearts series. I've loved each book and I highly recommend them all!

A big thank you to Brighton Walsh and her publicist, Nina, for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Is it impossible for an author to write a book that's good all the way through?
Why does every single one of them start off nicely and then slowly deteriorates until it turns in to a steaming pile of crap?

"Paige in progress" was no exception.

In the beginning it was actually good.
Funny and witty heroine, check.
Smart and sexy male interest, check.
Funny best friends, check.
Nice, easygoing plot, check.
Amusing inner dialogues, check.

But... Yes. Unfortunately there is a "but".

I hate to leave a book unfinished, so when halfway through I realized that his was a huge pile of crap I decided to finish it anyway.

Adam was handsome, smart, funny, loyal and knew exactly what he wanted.

Paige was smart as well, no doubt about that, but she turned in to a huge pain in the ass too soon for my liking.

She is a 23 year old woman that had one single relationship in her whole life at the age of 17 and suddenly she acts like she knows everything about love.
Yes, her boyfriend cheated on her. Tragic. But it was ONE incident 6 years ago! How in the world can she treat relationships in general as a lost cause judged by the actions of one person? It was ridiculous, unrealistic and very annoying. I can't even count the times she mentioned her former boyfriend or the times she thought or said that she doesn't do relationships. She repeated it so often it became exhausting after a while.

Every single fucking time she tried to run away from a man that treated her nicely and wanted nothing more than to make her happy I rolled my eyes and tried not to throw the book at a wall. Someone must knock some sense in to this bitch. And her friends, for some unknown reason, didn't slap her across the face when she pushed away Adam repeatedly.

Adam. Oh,yes. Such a good guy wasted on some know-it-all, spoiled chick.

In general I like books that the love interest builds up and the relationship doesn't happen right away but this one was ridiculous.

Adam gave everything to Paige and yet she never was satisfied, she never gave in. She had no good reason to not accept Adam's offer to have a relationship yet she did. Repeatedly. Why Adam didn't tell her to "Fuck off" and search for a more proper woman is beyond my comprehension. I get it that chasing after a girl is supposed to be thrilling but when said girl is turning you down in not so nice ways it becomes exhausting! I grind my teeth and got through the remaining book, smiling now and then because frustrating book or not it was still funny. I can admit that much.

That's also the reason why it got more than 1 star.

Other things that bothered me to no end:
*Paige mentioning every other sentence that she is not a "girly" girl and she likes sports and stuff.

Good for you. You are nothing special. I know, like, a hundred other girls that like sports as well. What's so unique about you? And why in the world would you think that you are superior just because you can throw a ball?

*Adam treating her like a unique little snowflake.

He adores everything she does and treats her like she is extraordinary. He is constantly exaggerating about her. He mentions, like, a hundred times the fact that she swears like a sailor and how much he likes it. She likes sports and he finds it utterly unbelievable and sexy. He is constantly comparing her with his ex-girlfriends and how they were boring in bed but she is oh, so adventurous while she does nothing in particular. She just has sex with him like any regular person would. But no. Apparently all of Adam's exes only did it missionary.

I'm not even kidding... The dude said it himself. He has had 4 girlfriends and they all liked one sex position. Can you spell unrealistic?

The author wanted to make her heroine seem so sexy and adventurous that she had to turn every other woman in the book in to a major prude. And don't let me start on the fact that Adam couldn't believe that a chick actually likes horror films and because of that she must be the one.

*The sexual encounters in general.

I found them ridiculous. The fact that they acted like horny animals all the freaking time got on my nerves. The whole book consisted solely of Paige's hardening nipples and Adam's raging boner. I mean how old are you? Fifteen? Even horny teenagers have more control and self respect than you. The mere innuendo of sex between those two made then instantly pant like dogs. Where's the plot? I want to see a little more apart from your sexual fantasies. And when I say fantasies I literally mean fantasies. The actual sex scenes in the whole book are 3 or 4. I don't remember exactly. The rest of it is just them looking at each other and imagining sex related stuff.

So it's fair to say that the last couple of months have been huge disappointments.

I have yet to find the book that will break my bad luck of awful reads.

Since I finished (head over heels in love with) Tessa, Jason and every single thing about Tessa Ever After, I've desperately needed more of this series in my life. I just can't get enough of Brighton Walsh's writing and her characters. I had pretty high expectations for Paige in Progress and ... I. Loved. It.

The opposites attract trope is still one of my favorites, so it's no wonder I loved Paige and Adam right off the bat. In a twist on the norm, she's the one who isn't looking for anything more than a good time. Relationships aren't her thing. Adam, on the other hand, is all about relationships. Casual isn't really something he does. Their chemistry was off the freaking charts and I shipped them hard from the very start. I couldn't get enough of them. I loved how Paige embraced her sexuality. I loved how Adam called her on her bullshit and pushed her just enough to make her realize she did want more. With him, that is.

Paige and Adam felt so real to me. I really liked her because she was different from the usual romance heroine. I got her. I understood why she was how she was. But, if I'm honest, I also wanted to shake her a couple times, too. Adam was flipping swoony as hell and I loved him. (Glasses are hot, yo!) How couldn't she see it? See he was more than the usual good time guys she "dates"? But, having said that, the story wouldn't have been nearly as pleasing if she had let her walls crumble after their first night together. I loved it because of how great it was to watch the back and forth and experience everything as they fell for each other. Of course, it's not all fun and games (and sexy times!) here, but both of the characters experience personal growth and have to make some decisions about their futures.

I finished this book in one sitting. I love Brighton's writing. Her books always make me laugh, swoon and FEEL. And boy, can this lady write the sexy times or what?! Whew. So freaking good. Paige and Adam were fantastic together and I LOVED seeing Jason and Tessa again – and Cade and Winter, of course. I love all them so much. The friendships might've been secondary to the storyline here, but they still gave me the warm fuzzies (and a few laughs). I have a bone to pick with Brighton over the epilogue though. Haha. How could you NOT give us names?!?! Did I miss something early on that gave it all away? (I seriously might've gone back to search in my eARC for key terms that might give it away, lest I missed them in my reading.) I mean, I felt the feels regardless and I have my own thoughts about who it was, but I want to know for sure! GAH!

In case you haven't guessed, I totally love this series. It's one of the best of the best in new adult romance and if you're not reading it yet, you need to do something about that. Like, now.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

FAVORITE QUOTES:

Adam has Relationship Material written all over him, and the only relationship I'm interested in is the one I have with my vibrator.

I wanted to take her right there. In a goddamn bathroom. I’m not that guy. I’m not the guy who has one-night stands, who fucks on the first date, who has public sex because I can’t wait to get someplace private. I’m methodical…safe in my relationships, because when it comes down to it, that’s what I want.

I’ve been kissed a lot. And I’ve been kissed. The kind that make you breathless and giddy. The kind that make you want to rip your clothes off and fuck right where you stand. So then if I’ve had those kind of kisses before, how can Adam make it feel like he’s the first? Like he’s the only one who’s ever done this to me? The only one who ever could.

"The next time you want to reach for your purple friend, walk across the hall and knock on my door. I'll give you what you need."

“You don’t think of anyone but me when I’m standing in front of you, got it? My fingers. My mouth. My cock. I’ll give you any of them you want, but you only think of me.”

Over the last year, Brighton Walsh’s Reluctant Hearts and Captive series have really enthralled me and provided so many swoons. As I’ve mentioned before, she has a way of creating a cast of characters, beyond the hero/heroine that enrich her stories.

For example, from pretty early on in Tessa Ever After, I fell in love with Tessa Maxwell’s best friend, Paige Bennett. Needless to say, I was curious if we might ever get her story—come to find that, not only would be get a Paige novel, but also it would represent Brighton’s first foray into self-publishing.

Paige in Progress represents, in my mind, what I’ve come to recognize as Brighton’s signature feel—hilarious banter, HOT chemistry, and beautiful friendship.

I mean it was easy and super fast reading, but I think I expected to like reading a book with the main character having the same name as me, but in reality it made me feel kind of weird and distant.

3 STARS FOR "PAIGE IN PROGRESS" BY BRIGHTON WALSH

This was a lot lighter and fluffier than I expected it to be, which isn't a bad thing. Some of the characters, both main and supporting, have their hangups and emotional baggage, but it was a nice change of pace to not have to revel in angst and depression for 95% of the book. When we start the story, Paige and Adam have already met and caught each others eye. In fact, they've already shared a night together that has been impossible for the both of them to forget. Because of this, there's a lot of cute banter and chase, and Adam is pretty adamant on being with Paige. There were no concerns of love triangles, and while Paige's ex-boyfriend is a major source of why she pulls away from Adam, we don't have to worry about people interfering with their romance. Any and all drama that occurs is strictly from Paige not being able to fully let Adam in, and Adam wanting something more serious than she did.

Having said that, I would have appreciated a little less smut and more.. emotional connection. I mean, it's nice to know that Adam and Paige are extremely attracted to each other, but there was a lot of potential on Adam's side as a character that would have caused some great conversation between the two of them. Adam has an interesting sub-story with his relationship with his parents, and how returning home almost reverts him back to the child they remember him as. I just didn't like how everytime we were getting a slightly dramatic scene between the two of them, where they would open up a bit about their pasts, one of them would be thinking about hooking up. My biggest source of annoyance, actually, came from a scene near the end.

To wrap up, there was also a few other details that the author included that I liked. I liked her exploration of sexism in the workforce, as well as the fact that Paige was a beautiful, intelligent, un-filtered woman who knows her worth. She's confident and sassy, and isn't afraid to tell people where to shove it when they doubt or patronize her. Also, her brothers were really funny and I loved all the scenes that included them. The fact that she was able to bond over her heartbreak with her brother, Dillon, was sweet and I love reading about sibling relationships in books.

When I first heard Brighton was writing Paige and Adam together, I seriously could not even contain my joy. I was so hoping they'd get together! Theirs is not an easy journey- Paige really makes Adam work for it and I was really nervous he was going to tell her deuces and be gone. Thankfully, Adam is AMAZING and a total sweetheart and he refuses to let this girl slip through his fingers.

As much as I liked Paige, she also drove me crazy. I just wanted to grab her and give her a good shake. I understand she has some commitment issues that stem from her past, but it's ADAM. He proves time and time again that he's a good guy and he isn't into one night stands. He's a relationship guy through and through, so it definitely bothered him that Paige didn't want that. However, he was desperate to have just a little of her, so he consented to friend dates just to spend time with her. Naturally, the two end up more than just friends, and Paige is sent in a tailspin because she really likes him, but she's quickly losing control of the situation she thought she had so carefully managed.

Don't get me wrong- I LOVED Paige. She reminded me so much of me. She is determined, ambitious, doesn't take shit, and isn't afraid to speak exactly what's on her mind- no matter how crass or crude. And Adam. Holy sexy, sweet, wonderful, beautiful Adam. I really loved his face for sticking with Paige. He has some decisions of his own to make in regards to his life and what he wants for the future. I liked seeing him figure out just what matters most to him at the end of the day. It's definitely a great match up between them.

They have sexy as hell chemistry though and I loved seeing it simmer and then explode between them. It definitely made for some passionate, sexy times!

I enjoyed getting time with the others as well. It was nice to see the gang all together and having fun. Paige and Adam keep their affair on the DL at first, but not much gets by Jason and Tessa! It was fun to see Paige and Tessa's friendship, as well as the boys'. I love books that not only have great romances, but such strong friendships as well.

This is just one series that I can't rec enough. I have really enjoyed all three books and I am not ready to let go of these characters. I would LOVE to see a novella or something of the sort because I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE EPILOGUE. Hahaha. Way to go Brighton. Killing me with the unknown. Well, I have my ideas, but.... I digress. Just go read the book, okay?

Paige In Progress is a great addition to Brighton Walshs’ Reluctant Hearts series. It’s a sultry and sweet love story and confirms my thoughts on Paige from Tessa Ever After. I adored her as Tessa’s side kick and she holds her own when she is the star of the story. Brighton Walsh shows she knows how to capture the range of emotions surrounding love and angst.

In this case, Paige has a hard line when it comes to the “R” word. She’s already compromised her goals for a relationship only to be burned in a most indiscriminate way. Paige may be afraid to jump into a relationship, but she’s is a self confident young woman with strong opinions and a competitive nature.

The story is set in the summer following Paige’s graduation from college as she's beginning and internship with hopes to land a permanent job. So, she’s got her life mapped out. Only a certain someone in her circle of friends is back in town for the summer and she’s irresistibly drawn to him. Not without cause as they did have an amazing one-night stand when they last saw each other. But it’s not like Adam to do hook-ups but his time home is temporary. But they have chemistry (off the charts/out of bounds and all that) and devise to justify spending time together. That is until they are faced with a where do you we go from here. We knew there would be this type of angst. Brighton does an amazing job showing how Adam and Paige have been changed through their “relationship”.

For me, Adam steals the show. He and Paige are simply adorable together and she brings out a certain side flirty side. I lost track of the number of nicknames/endearments that Adam started using on Paige but some of my fave’s are Baby Cakes and Sugar Britches. His playful nature was enough to win me over, but he’s also considerate and thoughtful. I mean come on, he buys her favorite Chicago mix popcorn...He’s also SEXY as all get out and he gets sexier as the story goes on. He’s developed this bedroom “alpha speak” that inspires *shivers*. He’s serious swoon worthy material.

Once again, Brighton Walsh does an amazing filling out her characters, giving them substance with their interactions. I loved getting to know more about Paige and her family. Her brothers are delightful and I hope we get a story on one of both of them. I happily recommend Paige In Progress and give it 4 stars.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Expect an Unexpected

So let’s do the check up yeah
Chemistry h&H : up to the max
Plot : warmth as the chicken soup from my mother
H: sweet, kind , loyal - very dedicated
h: a little jaded - that’s can be expected , crass sense of humor, strong minded - all in all she have a back bone and two cool brothers

Why I don’t give 5 stars then ?
Whyyyyyyyyg - the epilogue was why too short
But hey all those back and forth foreplay are swoon worthy - it’s doesn’t even bother me with all those cheesy nick name lmao 😂

Paige Bennett and Adam Reid have a one night stand that never should have happened. That neither forgot, even after five months have passed. That has left both wanting a repeat of, or more.

Five months later, Adam returns to Michigan to help pull his parent’s sporting goods store back from bankruptcy and quickly falls back into step with his best friends Jase and Cade and their new girlfriends. Paige has spent the last five months pretending she hates Adam, in order to forget their night together. But she quickly finds she can’t keep up the act with Adam back in town, especially since they are having to spend so much time near each other.

Adam likes easy and smooth. His previous girlfriends have all been docile, quiet girls interested in long term relationships. Paige is wildly independent and hasn't had a relationship in years -- not since the one that burned her bad.

I loved watching these two stretch themselves. While it was out of character for Adam to have a one nightstand in the first place, Paige is equally out of practice at nurturing a relationship. As they revisit the physical side of their relationship, they both do their darnedest to keep emotions out of it.

Their non-date dates made for humorous, lighthearted moments that began to show the depth feeling growing between them, even as they were too afraid to admit it. It was nice to see the friendship develop in such a low pressure environment.

I didn’t know I needed this story until I was well into reading it. Though it is the third in a series, it stands alone nicely. There was not a lot of unnecessary drama or angst, and no secondary plots to distract from the easy, fun romance developing between friends of friends. Cade & Winter and Tessa, Jason, & Haley are back and play great friends and matchmakers for this reluctant couple.

I got to read (several) early copies of this novel (Plot Whisperer Perks, yay me! #braggyh00r), and I can honestly say that Paige and Adam are my absolute favorite of the bunch. Paige is an absolute riot! She's hilarious, snarky, crude, and makes for the best type of book bestie. (I've already claimed her, so hands off!) Then there's deliciously charming, can I get an UNFmen? Adam. HOHMAN, this hero is something special, you guys. His page time was limited in previous novels to mostly phone conversations, but I truly believe Walsh saved the best for last with him, in my opinion. (If you thought Jason was a dirty-talker, well... just fasten your seatbelt because UNF!) Together? Forgetaboutit. Their chemistry is so damn tangible. I just wanted to cozy up in between them and wallow around in all that epicnes.

Please note, while this is the third book in the series, just like with all her other novels, it can be read as a standalone. Paige in Progress is all the best parts of Brighton's writing: phenomenal characterizations, humor (seriously, prepare yourself for full-on literal cackles), swoons and fuzzy-flutteries, a little angst, ungmahgawd sexytimes, and melty HEA. Not to mention, we have the whole gang here in this book, so you get a good dose of all those other awesome characters that you've already fallen in love with, and few new ones too. (Paige has hot, awesome brothers. JS.)

Before I get too crazy, let me rein this in. FULL REVIEW closer to publication. With that being said, put this one on your lists, pretties. It's definitely one you don't want to miss out on.

Why does Brighton always know what I want to read before even I know?

Paige in Progress was hot and filled with tension. I really, really enjoyed the characters.

More to come.
