I'm getting to read the final two installments in the series, so I'm getting it in order and quickly refreshing my memory.
#3 in The Regency Lords series

It's a bit confusing when you name the series as #Second Chance on Goodreads, then #The Regency Lords on KU and put the exact books in the exact same order there, but this one is here as a complete standalone while on KU it's stated after His Pirate - while here a completely different book comes after it.
🟣 Student of medicine, healer / a Scottish lord
🔵 A vet, disabled, can't walk, atrophy
🟡 Light story, effortless and simple chemistry
🟢 Good side characters to get the next book, but too many other unimportant side characters
🌶️ A lot of sex is off-page, some scenes are descriptive, some end when it gets interesting; penetration not on-page, oral happening but not on-page, the only thing was frotting and it was good; regency dirty talk, I liked it, more of it please
As it is with these authors, they give us good main characters and a decently engaging love story, but it just doesn't deliver that uniqueness that would propel this or any other book in this series to the 4-5⭐ domain.
Here, Reggie is a 4th son of an Earl who's come to his grandfather's castle in Scotland wounded from war. He can't walk, he needs therapy, his lover has left him and he can't bear to show his body to anyone, so he's not expecting to be intimate, but when John walks into his castle to nurture him and show him how to treat his body so it won't hurt, Reggie finds immense acceptance, support and most of all passion again after the longest time thinking he won't be able to perform in bed either.
Reggie and Johnnie have a sweet, simple love story and i really loved that for them, but in the second half when the conflict comes in and a local priest tries to rat them both out for kissing in public, is where things go south.
Suddenly there's tons of other side characters, suddenly there's Johnnie's life story out of the blue, which was much to take in, especially after the scandal of him having sex with his sister's husband already, so it's implied Johnnie's a much different person in reality than the polite persona he shows to the world and we did get some glimpse of it, but not enough.
The last few chapters and the ending are completely boring combined with the court fiasco and the authors just needlessly stretched the story out.
The dilemma with John's sister is resolved too quickly, his brother in law drops the villainous act much too soon and the question of John's family is still very much open.
I constantly kept wondering about Nick and Gareth's story and it's said to come soon in His Rake, yet that story is nowhere.
I really hope they'll put all the smut on-page, double down on that regency dirty talk and give them a wonderful story, unlike the others so far.

This novel is a great read. The two main characters are Reginald St. Claire, a captain with his fair shares of ailments after a battle injury, leaves him crippled and John Sloan, who comes to the Highlands to attend to Reginald's rehabilitation. The two find common ground and even the start of a romance. However, no story is free from its shares of problems that threatened them both on "Reggie" and John's sides. The supporting cast comes in with their problems that put weight on the relationship, but the couple weathers the storm together and united. This book made me believe that even in the darkest hour, love will prevail.

Captain Reginald “Reggie” St. Clair had a devastating injury, purely by accident during Army artillery training of new acquisitions. It wasn’t even during a battle, which just added to his injury. When he’s diagnosed with the loss of both legs, atrophy and a the ridiculous Bath chair, he is more than frustrated. He has a best friend in Nicholas “Nick” Avery, Lord Newark, to be there for him. The thing is Nick and he still like to get into mischief and drinking. Reggie is tired of it all and depressed. He doesn’t need everyone having pity on the cripple and he needs to be far away from family. Reggie along with Nick, returns to the Scottish Highlands and Dunvreck. Although, Dunvreck castle is run down, it is where Reggie feels free and at home, with thoughts of his late, beloved Grandfather.
Knowing of Reggie’s return to Dunvreck and his condition, the butler, Mr. Campbell has hired an attendant for Reggie. John Sloan has the medical expertise in rehabilitation and keeping Reggie healthy. For John though it is also a way to get away from his sister Anne and her despicable husband, Lord Berkeley, Baron, Gareth Howell. John made a terrible mistake, even though he loves his sister, he can’t stay with them any longer.
John has his hands full with both Nick and Reggie as they still love to drink and get into trouble, he’ll have to find ways to limit those activities. As John takes close care for Reggie’s diet and exercise there’s a spark that grows between them. John is good for Reggie as he keeps him mobile and out of the Bath chair.
John still has an issues with his pregnant sister Anne, and her husband Gareth. He’s keeping his troubles secret from Reggie. Things don’t get better, when Nick meets Gareth and that becomes a secret too. To top it all off, Reggie is accused of soliciting a man and feels he’s being blackmailed. Reggie will have to hire the best attorney, MacNair and his associate Taggart, to defend him. Who will tell Nick the truth? What troubles will it bring to John? Will John and Reggie find their happiness? What will happen when all is revealed?
Stephanie Lake created an intense tale of secrets that made this a page-turner for me.
The author’s description of Dunvreck and the Highlands bring out the beauty of 18th century Scotland. There’s quite a group of characters that will face: heartache, sadness, happiness and hope for all their futures. I like Reggie and John, as John really turns Reggie around. John gives Reggie what he needs to make his physical situation better. It leads to a steamy relationship but there are doubts along the way. For Reggie, there’s those special moments when he thinks about his Grandfather. The only family member that really seemed to understand him and give him well needed advice.
I really liked Nick he’s full of fun, loud, loves to drink and carefree. He also brought lots of loyalty and silliness to Reggie. But Nick is also caught up in a dilemma, that causes worry and sadness. Hope that things change for Nick.
I highly recommend, “His Captain” it’s and easy read with a variety of situations that kept me entertained. I can’t wait to see what Stephanie Lake, will bring next to the “Wounded Hero” series.

My first book by these authors
This is a marvelous historical romance and I will be looking forward to reading more from this duo of writers. Great characters and a lovely castle to live in.

It’s an opened door romance that randomly becomes closed door half way through, then open again. Weird choice. Enjoyable though. Liked the character of Reggie.

Reggie has been injured in the war and is not expected to walk again. Johnnie has been hired to help Reggie to heal. Johnnie's sister is married to the local Lord who has had a one-night stand with Johnnie and wants another. Estranged from his sister because of it, Johnnie tries to repair their relationship while dealing with Reggie's healing and holding off his brother-in-law. Reggie and Johnnie also develop feelings for each other. While Reggie is getting better, he is charged by the local magistrate with unnatural behaviors. Will Reggie be able to beat the charges? Will Reggie and Johnny be able to continue their relationship?
I liked this story. I liked Reggie and Johnnie. Johnnie's brother-in-law was a piece of work. He does get his comeuppance. I liked how Reggie's servants and their families helped Reggie at his trial. They were funny but totally on Reggie's side.
I look forward to reading more of this series.
