He was everything I aspired to be; successful, talented, creative. And for the longest time, he was my inspiration. My guide. But the saying never meet your idol came from somewhere, and I now fully understand why.
He’s an asshole.
No. More like arrogant. Entitled. Frustrating.
And until New Year’s Eve, I avoided ever seeing him again at all costs. But when a life-changing opportunity is presented in the form of hosting a party with the man himself, I can't refuse.
I repeat the mantra that I’ll be fine. That it will be worth it in the end. It's only one night, after all, and then I'll be able to go back to pretending he doesn't exist. I tell myself I can do it because I’m not the same sweet girl he ran into years ago, and I’ll have no problem putting him in his place.
The only problem is, as luck would have it, that place just so happens to be on his knees at my feet.

At the beggining I thought I wasn't going to like it at all, but then luckily I ended up liking it.
Since it's a novel, I can't really give it much more of a rating than that. The spice was pretty good and I liked the main characters. Maybe I would have liked it to be a little longer.
Oh! And I loved the idea of the two of them cosplaying. I've never read a book with that theme, I liked it.
Gaaaawd why is this so hot??? I mean, excuse me, this doesn't have to be that spicy, but the smut was chef's kiss. The tension and chemistry between Arian and Bailey were freaking off the charts. Maaaan, these two had me fanning myself from the beginning up to the end. Goooosh! These holinight novellas can definitely burn the house down with the spice 🫣🥵
So, they were both cosplayers, and they met two years ago when they attended the same convention. Bailey caught Arian's attention right away. But a fan pissed him off, and when he eventually bumped into her, Arian was no longer in a good mood and decided to snap at Bailey. And this is the reason why she works so hard with her cosplay and why she harbors anger at him for the next two years. She can't believe her idol turned out to be a grade-A dick.
Anyway, it was really admirable to see that Arian wanted to apologize, though a bit late, since two years have already gone by, but this just only shows how he got it so bad for Bailey. He has been supporting her for the last two years, trying to help her get known in cosplay. It was also cute how he tried to match her costumes most of the time. I liked how he was willing to do everything just to earn her forgiveness and for her to give him a shot.
As for Bailey, I liked the fire in this woman. I'm glad that she held on to her anger and didn't give in to Arian so quickly. I loved how she bosses him around and how she calls him a good boy. But most especially, I love her passion and dedication to cosplay and helping out those who are just starting in this practice. I'm also relieved that she didn't let her anger drag on for so long.
The smut is just too hot to handle, okay? 😂 I was flustered reading them, and these two together combust. How the author made that happen, I'll never know, but I'm here for all of it.
Overall, this was hot, fun, spicy, and full of sexual tension. The novella happened overnight, so it was a bit understandable. But the epilogue is another thing, and I liked it. I really love seeing the MCs find their HEA. ❤️
Book info: - Novella - Second-chance - Non-virgin MCs - Celibate MC (H- 2 yrs, h - no background) - No condoms, but had clean status and bc talk - No cheating, opd, breakup - HEA

I enjoyed Midnight Drop more than the other recent ones I've read in this series and the chemistry popped! The cosplay scene was intriguing and even though I've been to comic book conventions, and even had a friend who cosplayed, I've never investigated that community in detail before. Where the book faltered for me was in the main characters' development. I don't recall reading any background on them or much personal details. The characters are interesting and dynamic with each other, I just felt like they kind of existed in this cosplay vacuum. We know that the H and h have friends who support and work with them in the cosplay world. The H is extremely popular and gets endorsements and opportunities, while the h is gaining recognition and has an idea for a related business that also supports the community. These two had a run-in that was negative two years prior that affected each very differently. The h became tougher and more motivated, while the H has longed to apologize and make amends.
In the present, they're co-hosting a New Year's Eve party and their mutual attraction, as well as the simmering issues from that first meeting, bubble up majorly. Steam-wise, there's a give and take with domination and submission that switches back and forth between them. The tension is well-crafted before the clothes come off too so this isn't an immediate burn, though there are still a couple steamy scenes.
I did get confused a couple of times because of minor errors and I kept losing track of the placement of the H's mask in relation to the descriptions, it drove me a little crazy. But this is an entertaining novella with a H who was solely focused on the h and willing to get on his knees for her. I really liked that there are social media updates regarding their status given how popular they are. Then those updates lead in to the epilogue, which is a short time jump ahead of them still together and happy, with them successful. Though it also summarizes some cute moments that I would have loved to see described more on page. The final social media update is a wedding announcement.
Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and neither appeared to be virgins (H makes comments that imply he's been celibate since seeing the h two years ago; the h has never had an orgasm without assisting herself).
reread: 12/31/24 felt like doing a reread because i ate this novella up last year on this same exact day and i really wanted to get to 124 books in 2024 so it was a win win😭😭
omg this is the best novella i’ve ever readddd the spice was immaculate the chemistry between these characters was everythingggg and the plot was so unique i loved it!! lee jaquot never disappoints 🤭
Ok so this was much better than the previous two!! I feel like we’ve got back on track!
It still wasn’t as good as some of the others in this series. Also the first couple of chapters did feel like a slight rinse+repeat of the Labor Day Chronicle book.
HOWEVER….
I enjoyed this one much more! I was fascinated by the whole cosplaying elements but simultaneously because that’s a world that I don’t have a lot of experience in, I did at time feel a bit lost, and there were several moments during some of the more heated scenes where I couldn’t work out how things and moving body parts worked in coordination with the restrictions of their clothing.
So that along with a couple of grammatical errors and wrong or missing words is what brought it down a star for me.
Which really is a shame because I feel like if this had another beta read or copy edit, these things could have potentially been picked up.
they’re so fucking cute and hot and adorable and sexy!! i never read a romance about cosplayers and honestly im very into it. loved that they both were switches and easily could be dom/sub given the moment.
i loved how arian was always obsessed with her and after hurting bailey’s feelings 2 years prior he made it his mission to get her forgiveness but also win her heart at a huge cosplay new year’s eve party they are both hosting. i was swooning whenever he would find out what cosplay she was doing and he would do his own version..hello sailor moon & tuxedo mask (my little self is squealing!) and the spiceeeee😮💨😮💨
lee’s holiday novellas always are so fun and hot!!
I‘m not sure why I had the need to finish this but it was really boring to me…might be enjoyable if you are here for the enemies to lover trop. But there wasn’t really anything memorable to the story or the smut
”because that’s not all i want. she is. her in her entirety. the good, the bad, the fun, the boring. i want it all.” ₊ ⊹
my thoughts ┊had to finish my 2024 reading year with a reread of my favorite nye novella <3 just as good and as hot the second time around! ending things with a bang, for sure
original review; ”tell me what to do, love. i want you to command my every move.” ♡₊˚
this is by FAR my favorite novella from this series! which honestly surprised me because i’m truthfully not a fan of reading about switches/subby men/dominant women, but oof! i ate this one up. this one literally had me kicking my feet and giggling while i read it 😮💨 i loved the characters and the cosplay aspect was so fun! my little nerd heart loved this. the chances of me rereading this on new years is hiiiigh!
i thought this was the last one too, for some reason, but we’re getting another one in march!!! i’m so stoked!! this series is honestly such a blast. i really need to pick up this author’s backlist! <3
Content/Trigger Warnings: Anxiety, alcohol, explicit sex scenes
I disliked this more than the Christmas novella from the Holinights collection. At least in the Christmas novella, the female lead in that was only angry with one person and it was a work environment. This... this novella is a whole other situation. I tried, I really, really tried to look past the female lead's really crummy, hostile personality in hopes that maybe she would have growth. But, when she started getting a snappy, angry attitude towards other people outside of the male love interest, it was over. It made her character completely unredeemable for me the longer I kept reading. It also didn't help that the author wrote it as a part of "her gimmick." It would have been one thing if she was being aggressive and hostile to just the male love interest, but she wasn't. That makes sense, but also at the same time it made her incredibly immature. And I don't have patience for an aggressive, immature female lead. Not to mention, the female lead's attitude in this book was so negative and crummy that is started to make me not want to read this book, it started making me not feel great because it wasn't a good time like I was hoping for. I wasn't live, laugh, loving this novella at all.
The only thing I really enjoyed about this novella was the commentary on the cosplaying world. I've done cosplay in the past and I've done a lot of LARPing in my life. Whether the author has experience in the cosplaying community or not, it was nice to see that in a romance novella.
Overall, this novella just wasn't it for me. Again, LOVED the cosplay commentary and all of that. I also didn't mind the male love interest. By the 30% mark, I thought his character was actually redeemable because he knew he messed up and he's was trying to make amends. Can't look past the female lead though. Bailey's character ruined this novella for me and I think her character sticks out in the Holinights collection for all the worst reasons. I also think her character will be hit or miss for some readers. I know a lot of reviewers have said the male love interest is forgettable, but for me, but Bailey... again, so over the immature, aggressive female leads in any kind of story. In a fantasy or horror/thrillers, it works fantastically, but in romance, it's not it.
All thoughts, feelings, experiences, and opinions are honest and my own.
My advice is don’t google anything while reading this book, even if you find something confusing.
With the Holinights series, I usually like the delicious build up in sexual tension (which this book does have) BUT I found myself very distracted by the cosplay life. I didn’t recognise the characters they were dressing up as, and kept pausing to google, which really took me out of the story.
I did like the overall storyline though and the steamy scenes were great. Just didn’t have the right experience while reading.
My first ∞ ⭐️ rating of 2024 & easily my favorite Holinights novella! I am so obsessed with the tension, banter, and dirty talking between Bailey and Arian! Literally top tier everything. If you haven't read this one, I don't know what you're waiting for because it's absolute perfection!
Another Lee Jacqout book I really enjoyed. Enemies to lovers, cosplayers at a New Year's Eve party was a fun setting. I liked their dynamic and just had a fun time. Not my favorite of hers, but still good!
Never in my wildest would I think I would have a thing for Shredder, thank you Lee Jacquot for giving this gift.
Bailey is set to bring in New Years at a Comic Convention, but the man she has to ring in the new year with is less than ideal. He was someone she admired. Someone who gave her strength to join the world of cosplay from the start. Running into him, literally, at her first convention made her see him in a different light. But now she’s ready to show him she can run with the big dogs and make him beg.
Arian feels horrible for the way his first encounter with Bailey played out. He’s making it his mission to ring in the new year making it up to her. Begging may not have been what he had planned but he’s ready to make it count.
The tension. The slow burn. The push and pull. The SPICE!!!
I’m obsessed with how they love to boss one another around 😏😮💨
“Tell me what to do, love. I want you to command my every move.”
Tropes: Strong Dislike to Love Slow Burn Switches Praise Obsessed Hero
Enjoy the novellas in the Holinights series as a light and fast read.
📚 enemies to lovers 📚 New Years Eve 📚 novella 📚 dual POV
🌶️🌶️🌶️
|Thoughts| Second novella I've read in the Holinights series and they're just the perfect little mix of spice and festive spirit.
Refreshing to see such a different and unique setting for this story (they're cosplayers) and although it is a novella there is still enough plot & character development to feel like it's still a fully fleshed out story.
Maybe not one I'd read again but still a fun read and I intend to check out some of the other novella's in the series. Good if you'd like a quick pallet cleanser.
This novella is the perfect way to wrap up the year ♡ New Year's Eve but make it Cosplay. I'll admit I wasn't sure how I'd go with this read as I don't really know much about cosplay, but it was cute as. I can only imagine how hot Bailey was dressed as April and her matching Shredder!¡
Just new into the Cosplay world, Bailey was excited to experience it dressed up. Even if funds had been low and her costume maybe a little lacking compared to others. Everyone knew who Arian Kincaid was, but when he was rude to her, he became number 1 on her crap list. She used the criticism and turned it into power, making a name for herself. But Arian was there haunting her every step. Always doing the matching or opposite of her current cosplay. Until they're paired up to host NYE together. As much as Bailey wants to say no, it's also a great opportunity for her one that could open more doors. She turns up as April, and of course, he turns up as shredder. She wants to keep hating him, but he's making it really difficult. Especially when he confesses his biggest regret, it is how he treated her. Maybe she'll get that kiss at midnight after all 💋 and much more.
Meet Bailey and Arian, the up and coming cosplay duo, who are all set to rock a New Year's bash for a comic convention. Bailey was a bit nervous at first, considering the past interaction with Arian, but decided to take the plunge anyway. After all, what's a party without some bold moves and a chance to boost her followers and funds for her lounge? As for Arian, he let his anger get the best of him a few years back, but he's been trying to make amends ever since. What better way to say sorry than by teaming up with Bailey, the queen of sass? It's time to let bygones be bygones and ring in the new year with a bang! But that drinking game and elevator scene was everything!

I feel like i always start these Novella reviews with “She done it again”… but for real.. 𝑺𝑯𝑬 𝑫𝑶𝑵𝑬 𝑰𝑻.
I think I might be in my “Good Boy” era cause this story was so hottt.
Bailey and Arian are cosplay influencers who met a few years ago when Bailey was at her very first event. She was so excited to meet Arian and he was a jerkkk.
Flash to 2 years later, Bailey had been rising in popularity and she begrudgingly hosts a new years event party with Arian who has plans to beg for Bailey’s forgiveness..
He is going to 𝒃𝒆𝒈.. on his knees🫠
✨Dislike to Lovers (we pretend hate for the *drama*)
✨Switches (yes. yes. yes.)
✨Truth or Dare (ew. don’t make me. ok!💁🏼♀️)
✨Spit in my mouth (I am making it a trope cause it’s my new favorite one- #sorrynotsorry)
I loved the shredder and April cosplay component of Bailey and Arian’s story. It was super unique and something I’ve never read before or dabbled in. These two have a bit of history that sparked a kind of enemies to lovers situation but really was more unrequited love and the frustration it causes. Arian is a simp for her hardcore and he is sweet and loving but yet has that dominant side too. Bailey has built herself up from nothing over the years and has made herself into this boss babe but I enjoyed seeing her submissive side too. I love when both characters switch in books. It keeps me on my toes as the story moves along.
“I’ve never had the urge to submit to anyone, but with her, I would get on my knees every day. Let her order me to do what she wants, when she wants it, and how she wants it. Then, I’d have her on her back so I could split her in two.”
Okay okay okay. Deep breath. And go.
WHY WAS THIS BOOK SO HOT. THIS WAS AMAZING.
Let me just say. Hollows Grove has held the top spot as my favorite holinight novella since its release. Midnight Drop just came in, stole that top spot, and demolished any sort of rating system I thought i had.
I didn’t know what to expect going in as I am not super familiar with the cosplay world, and I was a little concerned I wouldn’t be able to connect with the characters.
BOY WAS I WRONG.
Bailey and Arian were everything I could have possibly hoped for and then some. I would sell my soul to be Arian in that shot scene. Honestly if Bailey were really I would be having a a massive sexuality crisis right now. Maybe I should be having one now? Idk.
“Did you like me like that? Down, and telling me what to do.” “Maybe. Did you like being told what to do?” “By you? Absolutely.”
This book had a lot of firsts for me, especially the switch dynamic. I need more. Watching the Dom dynamic switch back and forth between these two was SO hot.
Bailey and Arian were just hot. Through and through they were hot and I was sweating.
