Winnie-the-Pooh Tales from the Forest is a fantastic new authorised sequel story collection by Jane Riordan written in the style of A.A.Milne featuring beautiful, humorous illustrations drawn by Mark Burgess, inspired by E.H.Shepard’s original, iconic decorations.

This collection sees the introduction of a brand new female character, Carmen, a little dog with lots of courage, as featured in the Telegraph newspaper and on the BBC. Carmen may be small but she is mighty, and she has a loud ROAR! She was inspired by the discovery that A.A.Milne had a little toy dog mascot, which he called Carmen, with him during WW1.

Jane’s writing is filled with the gentle humour, friendship and life lessons that echo A.A.Milne’s original stories. She has a true gift for conveying the essence of Milne’s characters and the Hundred Acre Wood, while showing her real affection for Winnie-the-Pooh, a true bastion of British literary heritage.

‘One morning, Winnie-the-Pooh woke up with a tingling feeling in his toes that told him Something Good was about to happen …’

This authorised collection celebrates the Hundred Acre Wood. The seven brand-new stories are set after the timeless tales in Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner. They take us back to much loved places that Milne’s stories and Shepard’s map introduced us to, like Eeyore’s Gloomy Place and the Poohsticks Bridge as well as new settings that Pooh and his friends have adventures in. The stories also feature trips to the British Museum and the Tower of London.

These sequel stories will be enjoyed by both new and long-standing Winnie-the-Pooh fans of all ages.

The book makes a perfect gift for the special people in your life whatever their age.

I'm so incredibly grateful we continue to have stories from hundred acre wood, Winnie the Pooh and all his friends. Pooh bear is my absolute favourite fictional character of all time and these books give me the nostalgia I constantly crave. Adorable 🥰

Jane Riordan is shaping up to be one of my favorite writers of the Pooh sequels authorized by the trustees of the Pooh Properties and the Shepard Trust with her gentle but cute stories that capture some of the tone and wordplay of A.A. Milne.

Chapter One, in which Pooh has a lucky day

Pooh and his friends go hunting for four-leaf clovers in this sedate start. It has one of the worst mnemonic songs for all time to help remember the colors of the rainbow.

Chapter Two, in which Piglet finds a jewel

Oh, my. Are those Christopher Robin's infamous blue braces? Piglet is delighted to help return them to working order.

Chapter Three, in which Tigger is good at many things

Tigger brings his chaos, as usual, but helps set things right also.

Chapter Four, in which Eeyore tolerates relations

The cutest chapter of the book has Rabbit's friends and relations intruding into Eeyore's gloomy place.

Chapter Five, in which a prickly thing gets Rabbit

A mischievous new character is introduced in the Hundred-Acre Wood by way of a prank on Rabbit.

Chapter Six, in which Roo digs and Kanga worries

The friends build pyramids in the Sandy Place the day before a visit to the British Museum to see all the stolen Egyptian artifacts.

Chapter Seven, in which Owl doesn't sleep

Owl's difficulty sleeping during the day turns into a night of stargazing for all the residents of the Hundred-Acre Wood in this sedate conclusion.

(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here:

I wanted a quick, short and enjoyable read and this was definitely that. Call me a child but I love anything Disney/Winnie the Pooh so I just had to get this book and give it a read. I had a smile on my face the whole time and the stories are just so simple and lovely. There were seven short stories all together and most of them include little Pooh poems and all of them include lovely little cute illustrations, I’ve included a few in this review. This book was defo the easy read I needed, now to decide what to read next 🧐

I’m going back and adding my reviews for the books I’ve read so far this year. For starters, anyone who knows me knows I love Winnie the Pooh! Having stories that read so much like the stories I grew up being read is so nostalgic and lovely.

Having new adventures with the characters that I have loved since being a kid is so lovely for me now as a nearly 25 year old, there is something about being in the hundred acre wood that makes me feel calm and happy and I hope that Jane Riordan will continue to write these books for a long time to come.

Did this book have all the charm or nostalgia of the original stories? No. Did it still leave me feeling warm inside & loving the adventures in the 100 Acre Wood? Absolutely. Nothing will ever be as good as the original stories by Milne but I’m glad to have read these additions.

Milne.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would.

I have always loved Winnie the Pooh, but recently realised I’d never sat down and just read the original A.A. Milne stories. After starting on those I found my first two Authorised stories by Jane.
This book in particular I absolutely loved. She has truly grasped the cheerful whimsy of the original stories, and the addition of Carmen I loved before even reading the note about why, which just made me love it even more.
I hope this isn’t the last stories Jane adds to the 100 Acre woods as she knows how to perfectly capture their spirit.

Jane Riordan and Mark Burgess have continued the world of Winnie the Pooh with a beautiful collection of 7 stories with each focusing on one of the characters. Very enjoyable children’s book (that adults who love Winnie the Pooh) will love as well. Lots of fun and memorable encounters that are beautifully illustrated in colour in a hardcover edition of the book.

I never read the Winnie-the-Pooh books and picked this up after reading a book review. I enjoyed the images, Pooh's voice, the map and the short stories. I might need the original by AA Milne.

I treated myself to this new collection of Winnie the Pooh stories with some birthday money. As many of you know I am a massive Pooh bear fan and love the wonderful original books.
This is the second volume of new stories and whilst I don't think they are as good as the originals, they are a nice addition to the Hundred Acre Wood. The illustrations in particular are stunning!

We just can’t stay away from Pooh Bear it would seem for here we are with another story in which he features! This one is a series of sequel stories, written by Jane Riordan and illustrated by Mark Burgess, both of whom manage to perfectly capture the wonder of the original. With seven new stories in the book there is much to explore both in and beyond the Hundred Acre Wood – our characters have become more adventurous it would seem… But before we head over to sample the stories here are some fascinating facts about Pooh. Bear. He is 97 years old; he will be 100 in 2026. He doesn’t have a birthday (that we know of) but Winnie-the-Pooh Day is on 18th January, A. A. Milne’s birthday. Over 50 million copies of his books, in 72 languages, have been sold. The original bear was bought from Harrods and the Hundred Acre Woods – they are based on Sussex’s Ashdown Forest.

Pooh is up to his usual tricks in this new collection. There are misadventures galore and there is a new character to meet too… Why I hear you ask? Well, because the Hundred Acre Wood, as we know and love, is best when it is shared and so we will meet the dog Carmen in this collection, and she is based on a small toy dog owned by Milne himself, so she fits in perfectly. But first we meet the Introduction. The part that Pooh Bear doesn’t see the point of, after all they don’t even share it in Storytime, but the author likes it, well she likes the front bits because, in Pooh’s books at least, there is a map. It’s very helpful for guiding us around the woods and we might need a guide to know where we are when Piglet finds a jewel or when Tigger finds out that he is good at many things. Eyeore has a story too, one in which he has to learn some patience and Rabbit has to learn where not to put his paws as there may be prickly things out to get him! Roo likes to dig but poor Kanga worries whilst Owl doesn’t get much sleep. And good old Pooh? He has a lucky day!
