USA Today bestselling romantic thriller author. From an early age, Trisha Wolfe dreamed up fictional worlds and characters and was accused of talking to herself. Today, she lives in South Carolina with her family and writes full time, using her fictional worlds as an excuse to continue talking to herself.
I devoured in one sitting. Trisha Wolfe doesn’t write stories, I swear she possesses you. Her words crawl under your skin and set your imagination on fire. LOVESICK is poetic and intoxicating. My eyes burned to keep reading, my brain worked overtime catching every layer. My heart beating with a new rhythm that was everything Collins and Orion. LOVESICK wasn’t merely a dark romance… it was the cosmos tearing itself open in beautiful chaos.
Lovesick is everything I’ve come to crave from Trisha Wolfe—and somehow still managed to surprise me.
Trisha has been one of my favorite authors since she first pulled me into her twisted, brilliant world with the Hollow’s Row Trilogy and the top-tier MMC that is Kallum Locke. Since then, I’ve worked my way through almost her entire catalog, so when she started teasing Lovesick nearly two years ago, it was an immediate add to my TBR. At that point, we barely even had a blurb—and honestly? I didn’t need one.
Trisha Wolfe writes psychological thrillers like no one else. She has this unsettling, intoxicating ability to write serial killers and psychopaths in ways that make you empathize with them… sometimes even fall head over heels. Orion Night, our MMC, is no exception. Dark, compelling, and deeply disturbing in the best way—he completely consumed the page.
At first, Collins Holbrook, our FMC, doesn’t seem like much of a mystery. She appears to be a fairly straightforward FBI psychologist specializing in serial killer profiling. But as the story unfolds, layers start peeling back, and suddenly she becomes just as intriguing—if not more so—than the man she’s studying. You find yourself rooting for her early on… but by the end? I honestly didn’t know what I wanted anymore—and I loved that discomfort.
And then… that ending.
Trisha Wolfe really said, I’m going to emotionally devastate you and walk away. The way she left us hanging should be illegal. I need book two immediately, Trisha. Immediately. 🖤
If you love dark psychology, morally gray (or straight-up black) characters, and stories that mess with your head and your heart, Lovesick is a must-read.
Thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC of her next novel. I don’t eyeball read many books but I will eyeball read anything she writes.
DAMN, this book took me on a ride. I literally wasn't sure where it was going, all the way through it.
Orion, the MMC, is completely unhinged - in the best but most accurate way possible. He is the level of obsessed with the FMC, that he cant live without her - literally!
• Dark Academia • 'Undercover' FBI agent hunting a serial unaliver • Slow burn, tension, will they won't they
The ending to this book has left my desperate to get my hands on the next one...
Trisha Wolfe get back here right now!!! You do NOT get to write an ending like that and just walk away! For the first time in a very long time, I'm completely shocked by the ending of a book. The lead up to everything was so precise and perfectly executed, you had no choice but to take a breath and yell from the top of your lungs:
Dr Orion Knight is a brilliant astrophysicist and he takes pride in all of his work. He's meticulous down to the very dot he leaves on his paper and if he wants something, he's going to get it by any means necessary. This man changed the trajectory of everything that I thought I knew when it comes to a dark hero. Fuck the flashlights!! Orion was smooth dark silk wrapped up in SINNNNN and he was not the only character that had you looking over your shoulder.
Dr. Collins Holbrook has seen her fair share of just about everything professionally and personally. Getting into the mind of the unknown is what makes her job worthwhile and getting a chance to assess the infamous Dr Orion Knight will not only be life-changing, but it's going to set her on an all consuming path of the one thing she desires the most.
I've been a long time fan of this author and one thing that I know about her writing is that if she wants to go there and make you question everything? She's going to do it! I felt like I was screwed psychologically and there were whispers of future foreplay to keep you hanging on and you know what? The promise of something more which was more than alluring, was NOTHING compared to the unraveling of the end game. As I'm sitting here writing this review, I cannot even comprehend wtf just happened within the last 25% of this story! The amount of research and time that was poured into this story is honestly remarkable and it truly showed just how much this author wanted her readers to not only understand the complexities of each character, but to give us a visualization of certain scenes.
I knew going into this type of story that something dangerous was going to be brewing but I had no idea what was going to be pushed to the surface. Orion and Collins played the perfect cat and mouse game with each other and please don't even get me started on the sexual tension! It was raw, haunting, thrilling with an intoxication that makes you want to cross that dangerous threshold because you know, it's going to do you in.
If you're looking for a psychological thriller that's going to give you a serious mindf*ck, this one's for you!!. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go book a few therapy sessions right now.

This ending??? omg definitely my favorite type of ending/cliffhanger hehe and all the reveals?? PERFECTION!!
Thank you SO MUCH Trisha for this ARC! I love Trisha's writing and her brain. How does she do it?? I was so excited for her newest book to come out and when I was sent the ARC I was screaming and I'm so thankful!!!
The last 30% of this book had me REELING. This is dark romance also with dark academia, gothic romance and psychological thriller vibes.
This story has a dual pov which follows our therapist FMC, Collins, and our obsessive, astrophysicist MMC, Orion. 🙂↔️ They’re both morally grey , MY FAVORITE!!!
It’s clear obsession and forbidden in their minds. I loved the tension between them 😩
Collins is hired on at Stonehurst University as a therapist where she is also undercover investigating a serial killer…aka… our MMC hehehe but they both cannot deny the intense attraction towards each other while also hiding things and keeping the real truth hidden..
YA’LL when I tell you I LOVEEE when the MMC finds it hot and is so obsessed with the FMC when she outsmarts him no I was SQUEALING!! His obsession , jealousy, and him slowly losing his mind HAH NO I WAS LOSING IT!! Orion also has OCD which is obsessively taps his fingers in a certain rhythm but then he also sets a specific rhythm that ALIGNS TO HER HEARTBEATS!! I AM DYING INSIDE!! Both of these characters are so smart and they were just so into each other but also needed to use the other for their own personal gain!! The back & forth!! AHHH I loved it!! He could not touch her skin to skin and let me tell you I was about to implode. Plus our FMC wants revenge…and I love a woman on her revenge journey let me tell ya…I support ALL her wrongs 😇 and so does Orion 😩
Now I will say, there is a lot of science and astrology talk in this book which was hard for me to understand. I felt like there were a lot of hidden meanings within all the science talk which was really hard for me to decipher but also had me hooked and kept me guessing? My comprehension of the science and astrology is a personal problem obviously but I had a good time trying to work out everything and understand it. One critique I have is some of the pacing felt off and there were certain phrases that felt repetitive.
Other than that, I had the best time and I LOVE these characters!! I cannot wait for book two!! I need to know what’s going to happen next!!! 😭
omg i absolutely devoured this cause i knew miss trisha wolfe would not disappoint. she really never misses, idk how her mind comes up with stories like this but the plot twists and everything gagged me. all her books are always eating and this one also ate.
I NEED THE NEXT BOOK ASAP, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!
This is a serious case of “I’m done with the book but the book isn’t done with me” I’m staring into space, lost into this universe a burning star waiting for its inevitable demise, I want to stay into this universe but gravity is pulling me mercilessly into the real world…
I’m forever grateful to the voices speaking to this amazing woman, every time Trisha brings us a story I’m pulled into an endless vortex of emotions. If you asked me “are you into astrophysics” I’d look at you with a puzzled expression and yet if you ask me now, after reading this first instalment I’d say “I’m obsessed”.
The universe, the tides and astrophysics all took an entirely new perspective. I can suddenly see magic and poetry where void existed. Woven into this mysterious science lay a heart wrenching story. Orion and Collins took residence in my heart and slowly burrowed into my soul, they invaded my mind, where they now live rent free, and still not happy they went deep into my marrow. They didn’t simply leave a mark, they left an imprint and if I weren’t a scaredy cat I’d tattoo a star pattern on my skin.
Collins is a formidable woman with a painful past, on a mission to avenge her old self whose voice has been stolen from her, Orion Night is her target. Orion is a devastatingly handsome and brilliant astrophysicist with his own secrets and dark side. As they collide their union shakes the universe, colliding forces are at war, each trying to find out what the other is looking for. A game of pray and predator where the roles seamlessly reverse, until you don’t know who is what; and when you think you have it figured out, the author plunges you into a black hole with a stellar plot twist.
The story is told in dual POV and Trisha does an amazing job building this universe with each carefully laid out word. Her unique and unparalleled prose is a journey to savour slowly and with abandon, I craved each metaphor and structured parallel. I discovered new truths about the cosmo and learned about fireflies and their daunting mating rituals. And after I was done I felt an incredible need for more, more of this story and more of these characters and although I died on that cliffhanger, I’m also rejoicing because we will have another book about them and I’ll be waiting for them while staring at the stars, admiring starlings and looking with knowing eyes at the fireflies.
But fear has a way of stripping our defenses. Making us honest.
Trisha is always making you question everything. Every line is another clue to the puzzle. My mind is still spinning and trying to figure out what is to come. And she has me gazing out into the void. I am in awe of Trisha for learning all that she has to create this story and for making astrophysics sexy.
“Nothing would give me more pleasure than watching you unravel on my fingers.”
My favorite parts of this book were the beginning with the crime scene unfolding and getting a glimpse of the way Collins's mind works. She has a dark past, high anxiety, and a brilliant mind, nothing will stop her from her main goal of revenge. And then the ending of the book when everything unravels into this new game of cat and mouse to come for book two.
“Oh, I know. It’s a sickness. I fucking dream of what your skin tastes like.”
The world faded away when Colins and Orion collided. They were a black hole that nothing else existed just them orbiting around one another and pushing boundaries of no return. This was a fast burn, this is not my favorite trope but I feel the ending gave me hope for yearning and a slow burn for book two.
She called checkmate too soon. The game is far from over.
I think it is beautiful how Trisha has incorporated the femme fatale firefly as the overarching tactic of Collins when taking down Orion. The astrology, the ocean, and music throughout were a beautiful touch.
I cannot wait for book two and I know there are more secrets to unfold in this book.
LOVESICK is Book 1 in the Darkness Behind the Stars duet—and it absolutely woke up and chose chaos. 🖤✨
Collins Holbrook’s life is split clean in two: before she died… and after him. A ViCAP crime analyst who lives for patterns, profiles, and predators, Collins is deep in the Reaper Killings—a serial case spanning nine states and five years.
Her investigation leads her to Stonehurst University and straight into the orbit of Dr. Orion Night: ✨ brilliant astrophysicist ✨ celebrated genius ✨ quietly, terrifyingly unbalanced
The university has worked overtime to keep his instability under wraps, trusting in-house psych evaluations to determine the risk he poses. Collins is brought in to do what she does best—observe, assess, and decide just how dangerous Orion truly is.
Because obviously, nothing could go wrong. 🔥
What unfolds is a dark academia, slow-burn thriller romance dripping with obsession, revenge, and that razor-thin line between brilliance and madness. Lovesick asks the haunting question: What happens when memory outlives death—and love becomes the most dangerous force in the universe? 🌌
Trisha absolutely snapped with this one—mind-bending twists, a brutal cliffhanger, and the kind of story that rewires your brain and leaves you staring at the ceiling questioning everything. Proceed with caution. And maybe snacks. 🖤📚
Things to know Dark academia, he falls first, cosmic serial killer, psychological thriller romance, gothic university, astrophysicist x psychologist, astrological soulmates, revenge. Serial killers, plot twists, ocd rep, drugging
"Instant chemical attraction not only exists, on a nuclear scale, it’s strong enough to power a hypernova." - Orion
One of my anticipated reads of the year!! Ever since Trisha started teasing about Lovesick in her author FB group, I've been (impatiently) waiting to get my hands on this book! And oh boy, the wait was well deserved! Mesmerising, lyrical, and poetic, I instantly knew that Lovesick was going to be a 5-star read from the first few pages.
Trisha Wolfe, I'm in awe; you have a magnificent, brilliant mind. The intricacies of the storyline you weave, and the complex character(s) you bring to life, made me fall in love with your writing all over again. A descent into darkness—reading Lovesick felt like I was enveloped in shadows and kissed by stars. Their illumination was a constant companion, guiding me on a journey and telling me an outstanding story. The unknown may be scary, but eventually, you'll adapt and even embrace it.
"There’s an art to psychological profiling, stringing connections on a murder board like the constellations connect patterns along the stars." - Collins
Numerous unsolved murders, an evading serial killer, and a crime analyst who deciphered his pattern. A prey and a predator: luring the hunter out from his den, the prey sets foot on his territory. She might seem defenceless; however, she's actually a huntress, trying to get the attention of a killer.
I became obsessed with the main characters, Collins (FMC) and Orion (MMC). Like a gravitational pull, Collins and Orion couldn't resist the force of nature. They collided so beautifully. Tension was palpable, every interaction charged, and their gazes were loaded with heavy meaning. They studied each other—desperate to see one another unravel and reveal their deepest, darkest secrets.
"It’s coded in our DNA. To escape predation, to identify danger. I should have recognized the danger in her." - Orion
Astrophysics (but make it sexy), constellations, chaos, and compulsions create a devastating and dangerous amalgamation. And what emerges out of this delectable union? Dr. Orion Night. Witnessing how Orion ticked, his passion, need for danger, obsession, intrusive thoughts, and his sinful, no-filter mouth—was all compelling and fascinating to read. He is intense and swoon-worthy. I mean, Orion has a touch aversion, yet HE touched her. Also, one of Orion's compulsions was counting Collins' heartbeats *swoon*.
"Dr. Orion Night may be a luminary in the field of astrophysics, but this is my domain. Strategic dark psychology and perfectly timed moves." - Collins
Then we have Collins—with a bit of manipulation, she prodded Orion's every single invisible boundary. Utterly fixated on her, she consumed Orion's thoughts. Driven, daring, and a temptress, Collins posed a threat to his carefully, well-maintained composure; she pushed his restraint to the very brink. Rattled and off kilter, Orion struggled to rein in his primal desires. And with every provocation, Collins slowly brought the slumbering predator to the surface. Despite the havoc, Collins was able to quieten the relentless noise inside his head.
Oh my word! I felt an adrenaline rush in the last few chapters, and as I was winding down, the last two chapters blew me away! I couldn't believe the revelations! I need more of Collins and Orion ASAP!!

“I’ve stared into the vastness of space. I’ve witnessed phenomena I can only attempt to explain. Yet I’ve never encountered anything as beautiful, or as terrifying, as you.”
It has taken me a couple of days to start this review. Why? Because words cannot fully explain the magnitude of this masterpiece. It’s a book one must read to fully grasp the beauty in this story. Trisha is known to pour her entire heart into a story, not only into creating beautifully complex characters but also in the research she does. This story is no different, I can only imagine the hours of research Trisha did! Both the MMC and the FMC are extremely well written and complex allowing for a wonderful build of a character arcs within the story. The desire and longing between the characters helps to build up more emotional intimacy. The smut is well written and helped develop the plot not drive the plot. 🔊 iykyk. Once again, Trisha has taken my heart with this book. The complexity of the characters, the weaving of the story and the emotional connections between characters allow for an absolute masterpiece. This book has -once again- proven why Trisha is always a must read author for me. Thank you for gifting me this absolute beautiful masterpiece.
As a psych major and just absolutely intrigued with humans and their behaviors and minds .... I just appreciate and love Trisha so much and how she incorporates this in her books ... She delivers every time! I love it so so much! She's absolutely brilliant and I love how she incorporates romance. So beautiful and all consuming how she writes her stories and the characters... hello Orion Night and Collins Holbrook.
There are so many layers to these two characters, and by the end of it... I was like ohhh what twisted games these two have played. HAHAHAHA
And the ending? MY GOD!!!!! KABOOM! It left me with goosebumps! IDK how to recover from that cliffhanger. But I need book two soon!
I feel I also need to mention as much as I love the psychological aspect, there is a lot of science and astrophysics lingo in here and I'll be so honest... It was hard for me to fully understand it. Even though I watched and absolutely loved The Big Bang Theory. That's really the extent of my knowledge on all that. But besides that, I did truly appreciate all of it even if I didn't completely understand it... Just the way Trisha wrote this entire book, had me completely invested.
Lovesick is a must! It will f*ck with your head.
Thank you Trisha Wolfe for my early copy in exchange for my honest review!
this was absolutely perfection. dark academia thriller romance at its absolute finest. the tension, the anticipation, the danger, the obsession. all mouthwatering. trisha manages to write these stories that become engraved into you, not just your mind, but your soul. it devours you.
collins&orion is unforgettable, a beautiful toxicity, charged with hunger, violence and devastation.
This book devastated me in every way imaginable. I laughed, I cried and I kicked my feet so dang much. I never thought I would be able to arc read for this author in my wildest dreams and when th email came in I probably blacked out in all honesty. But I savored the hell out of this book, and while it worked in my favor it was also to my own detriment. The person I am now after reading this is fundamentally changed, dare I say, cosmically changed. This book was dense and forced you to think but the utter raw emotion that the language used made you root for characters but also wanna knock them around. The amount of quotes that I highlighted was ungodly and I am sure there are a ton that I would find even more on a re-read. If you want a cosmically enlightening read that is cell-altering, definitely grab this one.
4.5! Poetically/Dark/ Scientific I have MAD respect for the author on this one! Capturing quantum physics like this was amazing! Being married to someone who is obsessed with quantum physics, this book definitely brought up great topics!
The plottt! The tension with the touch!!! Ahhh I wanted to screammmm with the tension. I loved these two characters and absolutely loved the ending!
I’ve anxiously awaited this book since the author first mentioned writing it, and having an advanced copy made my entire year. It was beautiful and such a great twisted mix of mystery, thriller, dark romance, and surprisingly sci-fi. I will be on pins and needles until the story continues in the next book.
I will not lie, saying that Trisha's books always challenge me in the best way possible. The intensity of characters and every little detail in the plot is so carefully organised, you have to admire her research and dedication.
Lovesick is a dark, and emotionally intense romance-thriller that breaks the conventions of typical dark romance by blending psychological depth, mystery, and a fascinating cosmic themes. Set within the gothic world of academia, the story feels like a collision between intellect and obsession. We follow Dr. Collins Holbrook, an FBI psychologist specializing in profiling serial killers, and Dr. Orion Night, a brilliant but deeply troubled astrophysicist whose research into the “darkness behind the stars” mirrors the darkness within himself. When Collins ends up at Stonehurst University to investigate a long-running case, she enters Orion’s orbit. What begins as professional investigation quickly spirals into a dangerous, and intimate connection.
Collins and Orion are complex and compelling characters. Their layers and secrets create tension that grips you long after you put the book down. You have more questions than answers at this point.
The writing is atmospheric. It's mixing science, and all the extreme emotions together in perfect sync. This story isn’t light, far from it. It explores obsession and desire at the same time exposing emotional scars.
Story ends with a cliffhanger that leaves you craving the next book in the series.
Lovesick is a haunting, beautiful, and disturbingly addictive read. Perfect if you are a fan of dark romance that pushes emotional boundaries. Before you read ill strongly advise to check TW.
𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒄𝒌 was so worth the wait! Trisha doesn’t just write words. This penetrated every part of my mind and soul. She give us another unforgettable story that will be carved into my mind until we get more. Collins Holbrook and Orion Night was an unexpected plot twist that I didn’t see coming. This easily made my list of top reads of 2026. ♾️ stars.
I didn’t give more of a review with this being such an anticipated book I don’t want to spoil anyone’s reading experience. I can say that Collins is fierce and strong and I can’t wait to hear what she wants to tell us still. Orion ahh this man stole my heart. I was 😭😭😭😭😭 the last several chapters. She always does this to me I am not sure I’m prepared for what comes next.
Cosmic Serial Killer | Physiological Thriller Romance | Dark Academia | He Falls First | Star Crossed Lovers | Gothic University Setting | Glasses MMC
Trisha just has such a profound way with words. She weaves stories in this incredible, almost poetic way that completely pulls you in. For those of us who obsessed over and fell in love with Kallum…that man walked so Orion could run. I was in an absolute 𝙩𝙞𝙯𝙯𝙮 reading this book. The storyline is so compelling, packed with mystery, heat, symbolism, and characters who feel truly unique and unforgettable. And the slow burn? One of the best I’ve ever read. That last 20% will have your mind spiraling. That ending!? Excuse me!?
Trisha, thank you so much for this ARC and for letting me get a little feral in your DMs. You are seriously the sweetest, and I cannot wait for the rest of the world to meet Orion. They are not ready.
had to come and see if she was coming out with anything new because i swear the last thing was early 2024 and i see this!!! immediate add to the tbr. but my sister, give us a different cover for the digital shelf i beg 😭
Lovesick is not a book you simply read. It’s one you devour until it becomes one with your existence. It burrows under your skin, rearranges your understanding of obsession, and dares you to sit with the uncomfortable truth that love—real love—can be both luminous and catastrophic.
At its core, this story is about inevitability. About gravity. About what happens when two brilliant, damaged forces enter the same orbit and neither is capable of escaping the pull. Orion Night is obsession personified—brilliant, unhinged, and painfully self-aware. His desire isn’t subtle or gentle; it’s consuming, and it knows exactly what it is:
“It’s fucking written in the stars. From the moment Collins entered my orbit, there was one thing I understood unequivocally: She was mine. She belonged to me.” -Orion
Collins Holbrook is equally compelling—sharp, layered, and far more dangerous than she initially appears. Watching her unfold is both devastating and empowering, especially as the cost of her choices becomes clear. There is no easy path here, no clean morality—only survival, sacrifice, and intent.
What makes Lovesick exceptional is how seamlessly it braids astrophysics, psychology, and desire into a single narrative thread. The science is never decorative; it is directly correlated to the story. The metaphors land because they’re earned, and the parallels between cosmic phenomena and human behavior are handled with incredible care.
Orion’s fixation isn’t about possession alone—it’s about understanding, about confronting the darkness head-on:
“I’m desperate to unwrap my anomaly, to tear her open and discover what hidden danger haunts her dark corners. There’s a monster in her past, and I want to wrestle with it.” -Orion
The intimacy is heavy, slow, and suffocating in the best way. Even when the prose pulls back, the tension doesn’t. Every interaction feels charged, dangerous, and intimate—like standing too close to something that could destroy you:
“My senses come alive, wanting to experience the ruthless feel of his touch. Touched by the hands of death.” - Collins
And threaded through everything is the book’s defining truth—the line that perfectly encapsulates Lovesick in a single breath:
“For everything beautiful in the universe, there exists a terrifying symmetry. What is luminous and breathtakingly full of wonder is mirrored by its opposite. Shadows that are desolate and horrifying, brimming with destruction and decay.” - Orion
This is dark academia at its most cerebral. A romance that doesn’t soften its edges. A story that understands obsession as both hunger and gravity. Lovesick is haunting, intelligent, brutal, and beautiful—and once it takes hold, it does not let go.
As usual, my mind has been happily obliterated by the words of Trisha Wolfe. Lovesick had me all twisted up as I tried my hardest (once again) to figure out the complex puzzle this talented author laid at my feet. With the use of constellations and, I suppose, the true meaning within the stars, she offers up a fierce opponent in Dr. Collins Holbrook for the seemingly diabolical Orion Night. Brought together by a colleague of Orion's, Collins is brought to Stonehurst University to 'treat' the spiraling Dr. Night after his actions while doing his ongoing research become erratic to say the least. But what happens when these two dire soulmates become more intuned with one another is a string of wicked events, together with a burgeoning passion that may just destroy them both.
Just wow. I guess I should be used to the way Trisha Wolfe crafts a story, always both wildly poetic and so unbelievably dark. Yet, it was hard to look away as Collins and Orion find a tragic rhythm together, the staccato taps of his fingers the hallmark of his very being. Especially when Collins uses her own clever ways to use those taps to best Orion at his own deceitful game.
It is another epic game of cat and mouse, the roles reversing more than once to keep me on my toes as to who was chasing whom and who might finally succumb to the other's actions. I thought for sure Orion couldn't possibly stay a step ahead of Collins, his serial killer instincts always finding a way out of his muddled brain. But holy moly, the way those last chapters unfolded, I was in complete awe of how Wolfe managed to piece together all that these two characters had endured, both separately and together, and still keep me guessing as to how it might all turn out.
I applaud the way Wolfe ties everything together for those simpler brains out there, like mine, giving us brilliant explanations for all that had transpired and the whys of what both Collins and Orion have done. The glorious 'a-ha' moment came as a great relief and only reinforces just how intricate this story became.
I am so ready for more and with how this book ended, I can only imagine what this incredible author has in store for us next. As much as her words and premises might be a bit over my head at times, I can't and won't look away and relish these reading experiences each and every time.
When looking for truly smart storytelling, look no further than Lovesick. Sure, it's dark. It's depraved. It can be hard to find the light but overall, it's clever and unique and makes you think. I'd say that the true meaning of success.
Lovesick by Trisha Wolfe is a dark romance, so please check your trigger warnings before going in. That said, I absolutely devoured this book.
What I didn’t expect—at all—was how much I would learn while reading it. The way mental health themes were woven into the story was genuinely beautiful: respectful, thoughtful, and deeply organic. Nothing felt forced, preachy, or cringy. It never felt like it was there to tick a box. Instead, it fit seamlessly into the characters, the plot, and the emotional core of the story—and it actually made me more aware and reflective as a reader. That’s not something I say lightly.
Orion completely stole my heart. He is the epitome of a tortured hero, and by the end of the book, it’s impossible not to sympathize with him and want to protect him at all costs. My heart genuinely ached for him. Collins also surprised me in the best way—she’s fierce and strong, but not in a vulgar or abrasive sense. Her strength is written with grace and depth, and I would love to see more female characters portrayed the way she is.
The chemistry between Orion and Collins is intense. The tension, the emotional pull, the romance—it all hits. The astronomy and astrology elements added such a unique layer to the story. I’ll be honest: some of the more intellectual details went over my head, but that never once took away from my enjoyment. I was still fully immersed, fully invested, and emotionally locked in the entire time.
And then the final stretch of the book… brutal in the best way. Just when you think you’ve processed everything, another twist hits—and it hurts. The last 30 pages had my gut in knots. The emotional payoff was painful, powerful, and incredibly well done.
Lovesick releases on February 17, and I cannot recommend it enough. I already know the wait for book two is going to be painful—but based on how book one was set up, I have no doubt it’s going to be phenomenal.
As a long-time fan of Trisha Wolfe’s work, I’ve always admired her ability to delve deep into psychological theories and character-driven narratives. Her previous books were a perfect blend of intellectual exploration and emotional intensity, making them easy to connect with on both a cerebral and emotional level. Unfortunately, this book didn’t quite hit the mark for me, despite my high expectations.
The novel leaned heavily into the introspective, with a focus on the philosophical and theoretical aspects of the characters’ minds. While I understand and respect the intellectual exploration, I found that the constant delving into complex methodologies and abstract concepts struggled to hold my attention. The pacing felt slow, especially as the theories were explained ad nauseam, which made it hard for me to stay engaged.
As an avid reader with a passion for psychology, I was eager to see how this story would unfold, but I struggled to connect with the material until the final chapters, which did pull me in and offered a satisfying conclusion. However, as much as I wanted to love the book, it ultimately didn't align with my personal interests which isn’t always necessary if engaging enough to retain my attention. I’ve always had a difficult time connecting with philosophical themes and introspection, and that made this read particularly challenging for me.
That said, I fully acknowledge that this book will resonate with readers who enjoy deep, intellectual narratives with a focus on introspection, astrophysics and philosophy.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to read and review this book which I received as an ARC for an honest review. I truly appreciate the hard work that went into creating it. The cover, concept, and the twists at the end were fantastic, and I’m sure others will find this to be a compelling read. For me, however, not every book is a perfect match, and this one just didn’t quite capture my heart as much as I hoped it would.
