Jacqueline picked up her first Mills & Boon novel when she was 14, and fell head over heels in love with the romance of a happily-ever-after.

Argumento:

El futuro no les fue prometido a menos que lucharan por él.

Chloe Maxwell-Brent ha pasado los últimos tres meses sobreviviendo al fin de la civilización, gracias al virus sirio que exterminó a la mayor parte de la población mundial. Y aunque la desespera pensarlo, se ha dado cuenta de que eso incluye a su esposo, Ash, quien estaba de viaje de negocios cuando el mundo se derrumbó. Pero en medio del terror y el dolor, su amistad con Jesse y la fuerza de su familia de sobrevivientes la han ayudado a sobrellevar el dolor.

Justo cuando Chloe está lista para despedirse de su pasado y encontrar esperanza tras su desamor, Ash regresa. Solo que Ash Maxwell ya no es el mismo hombre que abandonó Sanford hace tantos meses. Fortalecido por sus experiencias, Ash ha viajado cientos de kilómetros para volver con Chloe.

Pero ¿aceptará ella al hombre frío y frágil en el que se ha convertido?

Mi humilde opinión:

Romance postapocalíptico, después de un virus, matrimonio, segunda oportunidad.

El grupo finalmente se da cuenta que debe cuidarse y trabajar en grupo si quieren sobrevivir en un mundo devastado por un virus mortal que puede mutar en algo peor.

Lo había dicho James a Rachel en su libro, que tenían que buscar un lugar seguro porque el pueblo de Sanford había enloquecido. Les tomo mucho al grupo unirse y por fin movilizarse. Es lo que me molesto durante toda la serie, no tomaban decisiones inteligentes, terminaban en situaciones de peligro con la muerte innecesaria de personajes secundarios. Esta es la primera vez que todos están de acuerdo en encontrar un lugar sustentable donde poder vivir. No fue solo una granja, encontraron un lugar enorme de lujo con mucho terreno, paneles solares, cocina equipada con comida, suits, spa, gimnasio y mas? No podía dejar de pensar que era conveniente.

Nunca me llamo la atención Chloe, era como que estaba en el fondo, pero me gusto que no se diera por vencida con Ash y que esperara su regreso a pesar de lo que otros le decían. Embarazada, me imagino la desesperanza de ella al saber que por fin iban a tener el bebe que deseaban y no podía compartirlo con él. Pero pasaron tres meses y siente que tiene que dejarlo ir? No paso ni un año y ya piensa en un futuro con Jesse?! En que momento se volvieron cercanos? yo no lo vi. Esta es una cualidad que tienen algunos personajes de la serie y me deja molesta, el rápido cambio de corazón, lo volubles que pueden llegar a ser algunos.

Pero Ash estaba vivo y logró volver para buscar a Chloe! Tenia la esperanza de que estuviera con vida y me pareció un giro interesante. Me gusto que hiciera lo imposible, lo imposible para volver con su esposa. Al principio cuenta desde su punto de vista cuando el virus comenzó a enfermar a las personas y él estaba de viaje de negocios, presentó síntomas y enfermo terriblemente del virus pero recuperó. Es la primera vez que leo sobre como afecta el virus a una persona pero a diferencia de los demás, Ash no murió así que pensé que era valioso para conseguir una cura. Me quede con ganas de saber todas las cosas por las que paso para volver a Sanford porque él estaba en N.Y. Mas adelante las cuenta pero me hubiera gustado que me mostrara desde su POV. Este era el héroe que esperaba, endurecido por las circunstancias y que lo movilizara el amor que sentía por Chloe.

Pensé que iba a ser un momento dramático cuando él ve a Chloe con Jesse, muy juntos los dos, pero no… se saludan como si se hubiera ido ayer. No hubo ni emoción en el reencuentro, no tienen una charla seria sobre lo que pasó como esperaba. Jesse queda de lado, pobre Jesse! Chloe piensa que su esposo esta cambiado pero como no? El hombre tuvo que aprender a sobrevivir y defenderse haciendo cosas que nunca hubiera hecho, era pelear o morir, todo para volver por ella. Cuando aparecen los tipos con dientes puntiagudos (sí los villanos de la serie siempre son raros) y Ash se pone en plan guerrero fue lo mas emocionante que leí en toda la serie! Ash era como un SEAL, planeo y fue fortuito, se cargo a todos esos tipos y defendió a su mujeres y amigos. No podía creer que lo miraran raro después, esperé sorpresa por lo que hizo pero no que lo juzguen por sus acciones cuando le había salvado la vida a todos de tipos malos que no solo les iban a robar las provisiones que consiguieron con esfuerzo sino que no iban a dudar en matarlos y llevarse a las mujeres. No entendí como ninguno vio eso y nadie se lo agradeció. Bueno Kat, la única, siendo Kat. Y Chloe? No esperé que sintiera pena por los tipos que estaban por convertirla en una esclava sexual. Era lógico que le tomara por sorpresa pero debió comprender que mato para protegerla. Lo que me paso con los protagonistas es que no hay comunicación, desde que se encuentran de nuevo no se sientan a hablar de lo que les paso estando separados, de lo que sienten. Encima había una especie de triangulo amoroso con Jesse que causaba fricción y que Chloe estuviera dividida entre una posibilidad con Jesse me molestaba porque había estado sufriendo por Ash.

Siempre me chocan los cambios de humor de los protagonistas, un minuto parecen horrorizados con el otro y al siguiente están besándose con pasión, esto pasó con Chloe y Ash, primero estaba pensando en otro hombre, mirando como si no conociera a Ash y después estaban besando apasionadamente como si no hubiera pasado nada. Es algo que me hace doler la cabeza porque no hay un proceso de los sentimientos.

El final es una locura y lo digo porque suceden muchas cosas que me dejaron descolocada por lo rápido que sucedían. Los militares buscando a Ash, todo el tema con los científicos locos, las muertes de personajes conocidos, la manera en que todo sucedía, las acciones de todos, porque son un gran grupo de amigos con sus parejas en conjunto, me dejo preguntando cómo pasó todo eso? Al final se resolvió el tema del virus gracias a Ash se hizo una vacuna. Chloe y él adoptaron al hermanito pequeño de Stephanie. Me hubiera gustado saber si la gente inocente del pueblo logro ser recibida por el otro asentamiento.

Para dar una opinión en general de la serie, la idea del romance postapocalíptico me gusto porque tenia todos los elementos que me gustan en este tipo de género pero no se desenvolvió de una manera atrapante para mi o logro conmoverme con el drama. Quería enamorarme de las historias de amistad y amor pero no logré conectar con los personajes. Puedo decir que Quinn me gustaba por su devoción hacia Kat y Ash que hizo lo que nadie se animo que fue luchar para sobrevivir sin dudarlo.

Si continué leyendo los libros fue para ver a donde se dirigía toda esta locura. Había momentos ridículos en la historia que le quitaban el drama a la situación o inconsistencias, personajes que tenían actitudes que me caían mal, escenas intimas en momentos inoportunos, falta de comunicación y muchas malas decisiones y un grupo que no se unió para trabajar juntos sino hasta este ultimo libro, en conjunto hacia que me enojara y muchas veces quisiera pasar pagina.

Termine de leer todos los libros pero no es una serie con la que quede encantada o volvería a leer.

Overall I would say that I enjoyed the story. We all know I am ready and willing to read any post-apocalyptic romance that is written, I make it my mission to find every one of them with spice. Jacqueline Hayley has written an amazing series of books about a world ending plague that wipes out a large portion of the population. There are some crazy things brewing in this story, plenty of action.

I am going to say this, the relationship in this book is my least favorite in the series. Maybe I was rooting too deeply for Jesse and Chloe to be an item before this book was even written, I felt that it was hard for me to feel anything towards Ash. I just.... wasn't loving Ash, don't get me wrong I love a broody take charge guy, but I just wasn't feeling him like I should of been. It's a me problem I know. All he wanted was to essentially steal Chloe away from her friends without providing any reasoning, basically expecting her to just follow orders because he said so. It just rubbed me the wrong way I guess, survival is one thing, but they had been surviving a long while before Ash finally reunited with them. He treated the rest of the group like they didn't even matter. He just wanted to escape with Chloe.


My heart of hearts knew where this was going and still I was not willing to accept what I knew was going to happen. *Sigh* This is why I don't read love triangles in my romance, they just end up hurting my soul. It is a trope that I actively avoid if I can. Jesse's death sort of haunts me. I was hoping if he didn't end up with Chloe that maybe he would meet someone else who loved him back....but no.

I feel like maybe if I would have gotten more time to get to know Ash, and see his journey in more detail that maybe he could of grown on me more than he did. Unlike every other couple in the series he had less time with Chloe and the group as a whole for me to really gauge his character. Chloe had a bit of character growth in this story which was interesting to see. It was nice to see her come out of her sadness/depression in this book and be more present than she was in the beginning of the series.

As always, Dex continues to be the best boy. I loved seeing the rest of the group and how they were doing in there own relationships. The epilogue was cute. I will be patiently waiting the book the Jacqueline is writing in the Ruined World series.

Finally, FINALLY we get to know what happened to Ash! After the End brings an extremely satisfying resolution to Jaqueline Hayley’s post-apocalyptic romance series—but boy oh boy! There’s a harrowing journey to get there! My heart was in my throat when Ash finally makes it back to Chloe, but! He has secrets and she has her doubts! And even while they’re trying to work on their relationship, the world is out to get them–I was reeling between exciting action scenes, my heart breaking at tragedies, and smiling at the cute banter. Not to mention physical chemistry and spicy love scenes. Yes, please! And thank you!

one of the best series

I love apocalyptic stories, that is all but zombie. Not a big fan of zombies. This series is one of the best I’ve read. The author gives just enough terror, edginess and angst without brutalizing our stars of the stories. Did I mention that she delivers on the romance better than any other apocalyptic author I’ve read, and it’s just erotic enough to make it fun
I’ll read anything she writes!

great ending

Really enjoyed this series. Full of turns and twists. Ash makes his way back home and road has been rough and even in his home town danger awaits. There is danger for our friends, towns people as well as military. What great series, drama, adventure, laughter and spicy romance. Will be looking forward to more books by this author

Finished the series ! This is a must read series ! The whole series from the beginning to the end will keep you on your toes and give you some giggles throughout. My favourite character would be Kat but, I also love Dex a lot (such a good doggo) !

This has been one of my all time favourite series, and Book 4 did not disappoint. Can I give it 10 stars?? There were tears, high anxiety and times where I needed a moment by myself.... Chloe and Ash's love story is the stuff of legend. And as for gorgeous Jesse... My only gripe is that the series has ended. I could read about these characters forever. Thank goodness for the bonus chapter when you sign up for Hayley's newsletter!
