Falling in Paris #2

Enemies to French Kisses

Rate this book
I don’t care how good he smells, I will not let hotshot, womanizer Marc Lemaire traipse all over my professional reputation like it’s a square dancing floor. He is just another arrogant idea-thief, and I escaped small-town Texas to make a name for myself in the city of lights.

But when a minor incident with my Vespa lands Marc in the emergency room, the words that escape his lips have me collapsing onto the gurney. Who is this “wife” he’s talking about? He can’t be serious… how badly did he hit his head?
Now I’m stuck at his (super fancy) apartment, feeding his (world-dominating) cat, while pretending to be his wife for the sake of his (hopefully temporary) amnesia.

Turns out, there is a lot more to Marc Lemaire than meets the eye.

Enemies to French Kisses is a workplace, fake relationship romcom with a whole lot of forced proximity and even more laugh-out-louds. It’s a standalone happily-ever-after best paired with the rest of the Falling for Paris sweet romantic comedy series.

I think this is not for me. I found the FMC whiny and they lack chemistry. It's an easy read but a bit boring.

Ok, I've tried getting away from Regency thinking I needed something new, but man, I need to go back. This one was again disappointing. I love book 1! It was cute, and the chemistry between the characters was great. With Marc and Laura, I didn't feel that connection. I felt that Laura spent more time whining about bs stuff, and Marc just ugh. It's still a cute book and an easy read so it wasn't a total waste.

I loooooooooved this book. The young professional woman in the big city (PARIS!!!) worked great for me, the enemy to lovers angle, all the faaaaabulous friends, entertaining side stories. Oui, c'est magnifique.
I could not put this book down. The first chapter already had me hooked and while it got a tiny bit muddled in the middle, a strong 5 star read!

While I did notice some mentions that clearly happened in the first book in this series, the books can be read out of order. Which I am going to remedy immediately by reading book 1 and then anxiously awaiting book 3!

I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.

4.5 out of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is book 2 in the Falling in Paris Series but can be read as a standalone as you won't be lost if you haven't read Falling for French Kisses. The book's blurb lets you know what to expect ,though Marc isn't a womanizer at all. It's a good forced proximity dual pov fake dating romance.

As a portfolio manager in a Bioscience company I may be getting the title wrong because, as another reviewer pointed out, I'm not quite sure what her job was, Laura is seriously focused on her job leaving her no room for anything else. She has goals of doing well in Paris & making her resume look good. Dealing with Marc, who she sees as undermining her, isn't something she looks forward to but she doesn't quietly let him get to her. When he gets amnesia & she feels responsible to take care of him, she sees a different side to him from what she knows in their work office & begins to question what she thought she knew. At times, Laura's character with her assumptions & inability to really listen did feel like a bit much & she wasn't likeable in those moments but there was never a doubt about how she felt. Also, I liked when her friends called her out & made her reflect on herself.

While Marc appears to be an arrogant silver spoon born man, it's not who he really is. Because of the insecurities he grew up with, he hides behind a mask that makes him come across as looking down on others - particularly Laura. Unknown to her, he actually doesn't feel that way about her at all but his nerves get the better of him making him be misunderstood by Laura time & time again. Though it's not specifically stated, it's implied that part of their misunderstandings are caused by their cultural differences. Getting amnesia is a way for Marc to prove to Laura that he's not the man she believes him to be & that they could have something special. While Marc may have not made the best decisions all the time, his feelings for Laura were genuine so you can't help but to want her to get over her assumptions about him & give him a chance.

While Marc never hated Laura, she certainly hated him though like one of her friends points out she makes him sound much worse than he actually is so enjoyers of the enemies to lovers trope may be satisfied. Their romance is a clean slow burn. Some of their retorts will make you laugh & so will the situations they experience. I know some are iffy about the amnesia trope but I think it's entertaining in this one - especially as we get to learn more about Marc's feelings for her. I would've liked to see more of them as an actual couple but I did like their fitting ending. Overall, I enjoyed this book & thought it was a great follow up as the second book in the series.

Laura is a Texan girl who has moved to Paris for a job and to move ahead in her career. She tries her best to be noticed by her bosses yet she is not able to. Marc Lemaire hits her every mark. It doesn't matter to her if he smells too good or is a handsome Parisian man to the T but things don't really are what they look like

On the other hand,Marc Lemaire has had the biggest crush on Laura since she joined the office which she is unaware of because Marc goes clumsy, awkward and shy whenever he is near her. He plans to start by inviting her for his friend's engagement party. Laura and Marc meet at the Sacré-Cœur and Marc ends at the hospital not before Laura has an outburst on Marc.

When he wakes up, Marc thinks that Laura is his wife and Laura being Laura scared of being arrested in a foreign country goes along with it and starts living with him.

Slowly Laura starts realizing Marc is not the snobby, arrogant French man she thought him to be. On the contrary she discovers so much more about herself while living with Marc.

I devoured this book. Marc was writted so well by Elsie Woods. The smitten boy that we all search for in real life,Laura defeintely gets in her own world. It's always a fun book where you get to read love stories of girlfriends group who have known each other for long and the confidante factor certainly makes Laura relatable.

The author focuses on the families and the different worlds both of them come from and what binds them together more or less is their work. How do you stay with a person who you meet everyday at work and are able to talk just about work?

That's the brilliant between the lines writing the author brings to us in this book which makes you fall in love with the love story even more. Marc is the Hopeless Romantic,Laura is the career-oriented and doesnt want things to fall apart and keeps track of her baby brother.

This book also highlighted Laura's character showing her the strong yet walled person who is able to break the wall despite not knowing what is going to happen next.

I love the unpredictability of a relationship Woods talks about and shows the reader that all is not hunky and dory but one can certainly give it a go.

Definitely recommend this book. Looking forward to start part three

Reader’s Notes:

– this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

– this is told from Laura & Marc’s points of view

Review:

This is one of my top five favorite books by Elsie Woods that I’ve read so far! I loved that we got to see things from Marc’s point of view, especially during his amnesia so we got to see when things swapped out of amnesia to reality and what his thoughts were. I loved Laura’s determination and work drive, even when it got in the way of their happily ever after for a bit. I loved how they were together in their ‘marriage’ and that Marc’s cat was completely fine with adding a new person in the house. I also really loved Vincent and his outbursts! He was very funny in how he made things clear to the two of them. Some of my favorite scenes/moments included: the hospital, Charlotte ‘s redemption, the engagement party, looking in the mirror, and the homebody scenes.

Summary:

Laura is tired of having her coworker Marc try to upstage her and make her look bad in front of their boss. So when Marc requests they meet outside of work, Laura is ready to give him a piece of her mind. What she didn’t mean to do was give him a case of amnesia. After an accident that Laura might accidentally be responsible for, Marc started calling her his wife. The doctor insists that Laura be a good and caring wife and ease Marc into recovery. Which for Laura means spending an agonizing amount of time with the man she hates while pretending to be the woman Marc seems to think she is to him.

Marc has a horrible time of being himself around Laura. Every time he tries to make his true feelings known to her, he clams up or the things he says don’t appear to be coming across the right way. How can Marc let Laura know that he thinks of her as more than just a coworker? With a grand gesture of course! But after an accident, things get a little fuzzy for Marc. Why is Laura standing by his hospital bed? Could all of his dreams have come true and she not only returns his affections but also agreed to marry him? That must be it, because there would be no other reason for Laura to care as much as she is appearing to now…

"Enemies to French Kisses" by Elsie Woods is a delightful and humorous romantic comedy that takes readers on a journey through the charming streets of Paris. As the second book in the Falling in Paris series, this standalone novel introduces us to two unforgettable characters and their entertaining enemies-to-lovers story.

Meet our protagonist, an ambitious and determined woman who left her small-town Texas roots behind to pursue her dreams in the vibrant city of Paris. She prides herself on her professional reputation and has no intention of letting the notorious womanizer, Marc Lemaire, undermine her success. However, fate has other plans when a Vespa mishap leads to Marc landing in the hospital with a case of amnesia.

To her surprise and confusion, our protagonist discovers that Marc now believes she is his wife. Reluctantly, she finds herself playing along and ends up at his luxurious apartment, taking care of his dominant cat and pretending to be his spouse. As they navigate this comical charade and spend time in close proximity, they uncover hidden depths and unexpected connections.

As the story unfolds, readers will find themselves swept away by the undeniable chemistry and witty banter between the two characters. Elsie Woods masterfully crafts a romantic comedy filled with hilarious moments, forced proximity, and plenty of laugh-out-loud situations. The backdrop of Paris adds an enchanting ambiance to the story, making it the perfect setting for a tale of unexpected romance.

"Enemies to French Kisses" is a standalone novel that guarantees a satisfying happily-ever-after. While it can be enjoyed on its own, it is best paired with the other books in the Falling for Paris sweet romantic comedy series for a complete reading experience.

Prepare to be charmed by this workplace romance, fake relationship romcom as our protagonists navigate their way through misunderstandings, unexpected emotions, and, of course, plenty of French kisses. Join them on their entertaining journey as they discover that sometimes the greatest love stories begin with the unlikeliest of alliances.

Laura and Marc's Story . . .

Laura Dowling and Marc Lemaire are reluctantly teamed up to work together on a project since their antagonism is seen as “energy” which will be an asset to their performance on the team. His continuous snide comments irritate her, but she doesn’t hesitate to get him back when she can. Outside they get into an argument where Laura finally tells him how obnoxious he has been to her. She gets on her scooter but he leans on the handlebars to tell her there has been a misunderstanding. But she is done with him and not willing to listen to another word. She revs the engine, but he won’t back away. When Laura just can’t take it anymore, she drives off, not realizing his scarf was caught in her handlebar and he is dragged off balance and injured in the fall. He remained unconscious as the firemen took him to the hospital. Although she is assured by the doctor he will be okay, he still hasn’t awakened.

As the police were about to accuse her of angrily running over the victim, which is what bystanders told them, Marc wakes and tells them it was a misunderstanding – and she is his WIFE! The doctor comes in but Marc has fallen asleep again. The doctor tells Laura that seeing a loved one and recognizing her after head trauma is a good sign. He also tells her to stay the night at the hospital with the patient, and it feels like he also thinks she and Marc are married. And when Marc wakes again, he still thinks she is his wife, so she will end up taking care of him, apparently under the direction of his bossy cat. (The cat is awesome!)

The story line is fun and keeps the reader laughing at the confusion. Will Laura and Marc make peace with each other? When will he find out she isn’t his wife… yet?

A group of young Texas women have moved to Paris to try and jump start their careers. They live in a postage stamp sized apartment, but they are a happy bunch. Laura works for a fancy company where she is thriving except for the thorn in her side named Marc Lemaire. Marc wants to be the center of attention in every room, and she always feels that is stealing her ideas and using them as his own. He makes her see red no matter what he does or says. When an unfortunate accident on her Vespa lands Marc in the hospital with a head injury, she feels responsible. To her dismay he makes a shocking announcement to everyone in the hospital room which lands her in his luxurious apartment with him and his cat being a nursemaid to her sworn enemy.

I laughed out loud so many times while reading this fun romance. Poor Laura had a lot of bad luck, but she also had a bad attitude at times. I could not help but feel sorry for her because at times her mouth ran faster than her mind could comprehend. This is a wonderful story of assuming you know someone based on your own assumptions instead of giving that person a chance. The setting in Paris is, of course, fabulous. I love the description of the views and places in Paris that made me want to jump on a plane and visit. Elsie Woods knows how to write a great rom-com with some serious scenes as well. I always enjoy reading her books, and this one was no exception.

Thank you to the author and Booksprout for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved the first book in this series, and I loved this one too. (Can’t wait to read all the other friends’ stories!) There is a lot more to this story than you can glean from a book blurb. Marc and Laura both suffer from misunderstanding each other and making assumptions. Laura seems to live in defensive mode with Marc, while he just can’t push past being afraid to move forward. The “marriage” experience opens them up more to each other as their real selves, but it’s ultimately a pretence and gets complicated, especially adding in their work situation. In some ways, I almost felt like it was more Marc’s book. Poor guy was in deep. But that just made him more endearing. I really liked Marc, arrogant shell covering up a soft inside, and Laura, defensive and prickly, focused and driven, but vulnerable and caring too. Some sweet and lovely moments, and a few great kisses. I also so loved the roommate interactions. They bring the humour for sure. And they care for and ground each other. Some fun little hints as to their future romances too. And a few nuggets of Natalie and Olivier…although I hope we get more of the existing couples in the future books. As with the first book, some great tidbits of life and location in France, and cultural differences. This book is clean with no harsh language. It could be read as a standalone just fine, but I can’t see why you’d want to since the roommates are all great!

Laura and Marc two very different people who couldn’t be more perfect for each other. Marc thought he was sending all the right signals to show Laura he was interested in her, but he was really sending all the wrong ones.(And man I kind of agree those were some weird signals he was sending.) But it also doesn't help that Marc gets so nervous around Laura that he can't get the words out right. Which than leads to more laughable moments. Laura was focused on doing the best she could at her job and trying not to let the jerk Marc get in her way of what she needed to do. In an unexpected turn of events Laura and Marc are thrown together and nothing will ever be the same between them again. I love it when a guy falls first, and Marc falls first and fast and hard. He is kind of sweet but also puts out a lot of wrong signals. I could not get enough of how sweet and caring Marc was or at least thought he was. This book had me laughing a lot and when I wasn’t laughing, I had a dopey smile on my face just imagining the situations that Laura had gotten into. This is the second book in the series, and it is another smash hit. You do not need to read the first book to enjoy this one. But this group of six best friends are a great group of girls (do you think they have room for one more?). You get everything that you are looking for with these girls and you will not be sorry that you read this story.

This was an enemies to lovers forced proximity office romantic comedy.

This is one of my favorite tropes. I could not relate to either of the characters in the story, they came across as flat/one dimensional. I debated not finishing the book but wanted to see if the story delivered on the book blurb - it didn't.

Laura Dowling is a portfolio manager at Innov Biotech in Paris. She and her 5 girlfriends from Sage, Texas moved to Paris for one year. They all live in a tiny shoebox of an apartment together. She is driven to succeed, has no time for romance and hates Marc.

Marc Lemaire comes from money. He owns one third of his father's business which his older brother Alain runs. He convinced his brother to invest in Innov Biotech's start-up which his childhood best friend Guillaume Toussaint owns and where he works. He has had a crush on Laura since he met her.

Guillaume announced a new market opening in the Netherlands and put Laura, Marc and their tech genius Vincent on the team to write the proposal to win the account. They are under an extreme amount of pressure to get the account. Due to an unfortunate accident Laura ends up having to live with and care for Marc when he is injured. She starts to see who he is beneath the arrogant exterior he presents to the world. They fumble through their relationship and eventually get their HEA and win the big account for the company.

This is a cute, sweet, and fun romantic comedy that brings the streets of Paris right to your living room! I’m usually not an amnesia romance reader, but Laura’s bad luck and Marc’s personality really blended well to make this work, and since the amnesia portion of the story is there to get Laura and Marc together, it really works within the story. As with everything this author writes, there is great balance between the sweet, the romantic, and the dramatic aspects of the story ensure that there is always humor and laughs in it, but the story does not come across as a farce.
This is a self contained HEA and even though it is Book 2 in a series you can easily jump right into this book without missing a beat. The author does a great job of setting up the story so that anyone can begin this series with this book, however as with any good interconnected series there are elements of this story that are enhanced by knowing what happened in Book 1. As always, there is a great building up of the secondary characters and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.

sixTexas girls in Paris

Six girls from Texas arrive in Paris to try to find jobs and have the time of their lives. I think I saw this movie in the 60’s! I know most of you won’t get that reference but I just had to say it. Laura lands her dream job but there is a thorn among the roses. Her co-worker Marc is constantly doing things to irritate her. She has had enough. Marc has never had to try to win a woman. They tend to fall at his feed. He is having a hard time figuring out how to tell Laura that he wants to be more than friends but he can’t seem to find the words. Laura is confident and I admire that about her. Marc makes it seem like a happy go lucky guy when in fact he is sweet and sensitive and his personality puts people at ease. I feel his frustration when he repeatedly tries to tell Laura how he feels and it only makes her move farther away. When he is hurt in an accident because of what Laura unintentionally did she feels responsible. I loved their story and all her friends who supported her in every situation. Things worked out in the end better than I expected. I recommend this book because I loved it.

What's a girl to do when she drags a guy down the steps of Sacre Coeur because his scarf gets tangled in her Vespa? A co-worker she really despises, but she ends up taking care of him and his sweet cat in his luxury apartment all because of his concussion...and her guilt. Does he really think they are married?

The story is full of hilarious conflicts and incorrect conclusions. It is also a story about three people landing a fabulous account for their company. A company that I confess I didn't really understand what they did! But, Yay Team! Between my lack of understanding terminology and rusty French, I still knew enough to understand the overview just not the business details. Still I understood Laura and Marc and their chemistry just fine! And I couldn't read it fast enough! So much fun accompanied with friendship, family, and love. The second in a terrific series of temporarily transplanted Texans in Paris.

Fun clean romance

I really enjoyed this book! It was a fresh storyline and a mash up of different tropes. After college I lived in Paris for several months and this book just gave me that nostalgic feeling of being young and on an adventure of a lifetime. I loved the setting of a bunch of childhood friends living in a microscopic flat in Paris. This is the first in the series that’ve read but I am going to be following this now to see what happens to the others. It gets silly in parts but is overall just a fun carefree fiction read.

Handsome but infuriating French coworker and a bossy Texan, who will survive their joint work project? They butted heads so much, she couldn’t stand him and he dreamed about her. Very opposite but I loved watching them get together.

3.5 stars. I was expecting more but this story kinda fell flat for me.
Unfortunately I don’t speck French or completely understand Marc as a person.
Laura and her friends are living in a shoebox apartment in Paris for a year. She has an important job where she has to work with Marc or the monster as they like to call him.
These two were back and forth so much that I never thought they would get together. Then an accident happened and Marc pretended Laura was his wife for a week. Honestly I’m not sure what he expected to get out of that lie because nothing came of it besides pushing Laura away again. Then Laura has an accident and Marc realizes he needs to tell her but can’t come right out and just say it.
Then when they finally get together it was kind of a disaster and now they just have to figure out how a relationship is going to work for them.

This is the second installment in the Falling in Paris series, and I had a hard time putting down this perfect blend of uncomfortable comedic situations, oh-so-swoony moments, and heart-felt romance! This time around, the story centers on Texan Laura and her French co-worker/nemesis Marc. Confusions abound and, despite their palpable chemistry, it takes them quite a while to get on the same page. In the process, they will learn about forgiveness, being vulnerable, and when not to wear a scarf!

I’m looking forward to finding out what happens with the rest of the girlfriends from Sage, Texas who came along on this year-long adventure in Paris!

Laura and Marc are forced to work together on a project. He takes every chance he can to make snide double edged comments that seem to show up his coworkers. But maybe that’s the equivalent of pulling her hair because he has a crush on her and tries to work up the courage to ask her out. But then Laura hits him with her scooter and ends up forced to pretend to be married and take care of him. They have their share of madcap moments including her own injury. I loved his sweet rescue cat. Their coworker Vincent has some surprising qualities and I wonder if he’ll end with one of her roommates. I can’t imagine taking a chance and cramming into a small apartment in another country with my friends but what an adventure.

So cute!

Enimies to French Kisses was so cute! Frenchman Marc has liked their new American employee, Laura, since she started working there. His attempts to woo the business-focused Laura have all failed. Laura thinks her French coworker, Marc, is a condescending, smug, know-it-all who's always trying to one-up her and has no idea of his affection.
After chewing him out one night, Laura inadvertently helps him fall down the stairs at Sacre Coeur--where he hits his head, and his face, and every other part of his body--and he's rushed to the hospital. When he wakes up, he calls Laura his wife.
It was really fun to see how far both of them would go to appease the other and how much they liked each other when they both let down their walls.

I think you will enjoy this story as much as I did. It is fantastic with the fun witty banter between Laura and Marc as well as all the six roommates, the great friendships and more. I found myself laughing, this is a great rom-com, There are so many unexpected twists and turns in this story it surprised me as to some of the things that Marc and Laura went through, she seriously hated him and he was secretly falling for her but couldn't ever express himself, even in the end as they came together it was unexpected, such a great book that kept me reading way to late into the night. I highly recommend this great fun read.

Laura and Marc have completely misunderstood each other. Marc thinks that he is showing Laura that he likes her, but she sees him through the lens of her childhood. When they are put on a critical work project, they keep talking past each other and blocking each other. Both are frustrated until Marc has an accident and gets confused about the state of their relationship. Laura begins to see the real Marc and realize how much she likes him. Reading about the two of them navigating Marc's recovery (and then Laura's recovery) was very entertaining and very funny. I can't wait to get the other girls' stories!

They say there’s a fine line between love and hate and I think this story set in the city of love Paris ,shows the exact example of this . Laura hates Marc with a passion , he is an idea stealing jerk who happens to work at the same place she does. When Marc has an accident and needs looking after due to amnesia an unlucky person takes the job of wifey . An hilarious concept very well written , the perfect romcom . It’s an ideal beach read and although it’s a stand-alone I’d recommend reading the other book before this one.

This is a cute romance that centers around Marc and Laura. Marc is a Frenchman. Laura is an American from Texas who came to spend a year in Paris. Marc is enamored with Laura. Laura thinks Marc is arrogant and doesn’t want anything to
So with him. After Marc has an accident he thinks Laura is his wife. She now has to play the part and learns there is a lot more to Marc than it seems. This is a cute romance about work place romance, enemies to loves, unrequited love. The chemistry and tension between these two is off the charts. I enjoyed this read.

Cute, fun read.
This is the second book in the series. I haven’t read the first book, and I didn’t feel like I was missing relevant information; these books can be read out of order. I like the premise for the series and want to go back and read the first one and the rest that will come! There’s a lot of passion and ambition between Laura and Marc… and a few crazy situations. It definitely took some unexpected twists and turns. Looking forward to more in the series!

In all honesty, I was a little worried with the title, but there was no reason for fear. Woods does a marvelous job of "keeping it clean" and I greatly appreciate that!

The story of Laura and Marc and how her Texan behaviors clash with the French is at times endearing and at times hysterical. I did laugh out loud with this book. It is a well-told contemporary romance (which I normally won't read) with lots of laughter, friendship, love, perseverance, and growth.

Now I'm curious about the rest of this series... :)

Another fun and entertaining read from Elsie Woods.
I love the humour in her writing and how all the stories I have read so far are all light-hearted and fun. This one is no exception and I could not put the book down.
I'm really enjoying this new series and getting to know this group of friends as they live out their lives in Paris.

Enemies to French Kisses is the second book in the fabulous ‘Falling in Paris’ Series. Each book can be read as the perfect stand-alone story.

The characters are wonderful, they have depth and flaws and the chemistry is just right. Paris is the perfect location for this laugh out loud romcom. It is a light, easy to read book and I can easily imagine it as a Hallmark film.

I loved this book and definitely recommend it.
