Knit beautiful top down sweaters with no seams with 12 different decorative yokes.
This is a collection of knitting patterns for 12 different yokes that can be used on three basic sweaters patterns made from different yarn DK; fingering and worsted.
The designs feature stunning colourwork designs so you can get really creative with your favourite colour palette; lace patterns for a more subtle yoke and textural designs with cables. Choose from four different yokes for a DK weight pattern; four different yoke designs for a fingering weight sweater pattern and four different designs for a worsted weight design.
The designs include texture in the form of cables and beautiful colourwork patterns so there is a yoke for all tastes.
The patterns are all size inclusive and are graded up to a size 68" chest.
This is a beautiful knitwear design book! I have been knitting for years, but I'm new to stranded colorwork, so I picked up this book to see if I could try a sweater. Olga writes very clearly and comprehensively. She introduces a lot of beginner knitting concepts (stitches, gauge, etc.), which were a nice refresher. Although the patterns would be ambitious for a beginning knitter, she makes it feel possible! I also appreciated the gorgeous photography with great detail on the sweaters. The book features 2 models with very different proportions, complexions, and hair colors, which helps to show how the sweaters will look good on anyone. I have not yet used these patterns, but I feel confident that I will be able to based on Olga's instructions.
I've done many top-down raglan sweaters and I'm currently working on a Scandi-style sweater from Wilderness Knits by Linka Neumann which has beautifully patterned yokes. In comparison, these yokes patterns are rather tame and short! I was surprised that the patterns don't extend further down the body. The range of yarn weight used isn't very different, 16-24 stitch gauge, so the fabrics don't look much different. Lots of photos and the stitch diagrams are big! I was disappointed in this book but I'm certain it will be helpful for others.
The cables and colorwork are beautiful, so the stars are for those. Full disclosure, I haven’t used any of the patterns, and I can’t comment about size inclusivity, fit or ease. You can purchase them on Ravelry in digital format, but I’ve been told it’s unlikely you’ll get support from the designer if you run into issues. The effort and materials (for colorwork and cables, it’s a lot) are an investment, so one will want to read through the chosen pattern carefully!
This book can only inspire you to try Yoking. The yoke designs and utilization of both color and cables, combined with three yarn weights provides a variety of excellent choices. I'm eager to begin! As a side note: All this information and inspiration (143 pages and color photos) at $2.99 USD is remarkable. Thank you.
