A prophecy foretold by the stars. A world of forbidden magic. A curse spanning centuries.
Growing up, Princess Adalina loved nothing more than to read her fairy tales and play out her favorite stories with her older brother, Shane, and best friend, Phillip. Now, with their kingdom on the brink of war, those tales might be the only hope of saving their people.
And it starts with finding the Nihryst—a group of legendary immortal warriors, supposedly cursed by the royal siblings’ ancestors over a century earlier.
In a world full of love and betrayal, curses, witches, and pirates, Ada and Shane must decide how much they’re willing to give for their kingdom and a future with those they love.
Because the stars foretold their story long before their time, and if they stray from their fates, the dire consequences will be the destruction of all they know.
~*~*~ This collection includes The Lost Legends, The Lost Prince, The Lost Alliance, and most of the bonus chapters from The Lost Dreams. It can be read as a complete story, though there are more books in the series set years later.
YA/NA multi-genre author Cait Marie has enjoyed reading and creating stories her entire life. Her 2020 fantasy debut, The Lost Legends, encompasses her love of fairy tales and adventure while her following book, The Last Summer, shows her appreciation for fluffy-but-moving contemporary romance.
In the time since, she has continued publishing in both genres and has plans to expand into science fiction, steampunk, and dystopian worlds.
Cait is the creator and manager of the book blog Functionally Fictional, works for YA Books Central, and offers a variety of author services, including editing, proofreading, and formatting. She has a BA in forensic psychology and an MFA in creative writing, both from Southern New Hampshire University.
Basically, her life revolves around books, but she also enjoys music, bullet journaling, graphic design, and Disney movies.
This is one of my absolute favorite fantasy series, and I'm thrilled to see all the books in one edition. The author weaves together elements of fairy tales, including Robin Hood and Tangled, adding in more complex elements such as grief, loss, love, and overcoming challenges, and it's all done in the best possible way!
Wonderfull series, you can find my review of book 1 here, and the links to the other reviews at the bottom.
Review the lost legends ⭐⭐⭐⭐: Once in a while I wonder what it would be like to be a pirate, encountering wild adventures at sea. You too sometimes? And you like some Robin Hood vibes now and then? Well then I’d like to introduce you to The Lost Legends, book one of The Nihryst.
Meet Ada, a princess who knows how to stand her ground and is just as happy to choose a sword as part of her outfit as a ball gown. You also get to know Shane, her brother and crown prince, and their best friend Philip who has been in the Royal Guard for several years. A nice trio who know each other through and through, with whom friendship always comes first, no matter what. While reading this book, you would like to be part of their group yourself.
As you can read in the synopsis, Ada sets out on an adventure with pirates in search of the immortal warriors, the Nihryst, who were cursed by her ancestors over a century ago. She wants to enlist their help to stop her father's gruesome plans. On her journey, she will find unexpected friendships, learn to overcome her fears and learn the ins and outs of shipboard life. Meanwhile, Shane discovers that a terrible disease has reappeared and joins the rebels in their search for a cure. Both royals give the reader the feeling that you want to get to know them better, that they are more than just a spoiled and privileged prince and princess, and are already developing themselves a little further throughout book one. I hope there will be more room for this in the next books.
Ada is a bit naive, I often saw the plot twists coming from miles away while she was always caught off guard by them. But this does not make her any less fun as a main character, you keep believing in her and rooting for her to find the Nihryst. I felt more of a bond with Philip, his powers of observation and love for his family are traits I also find in myself. You also quickly become attached to the other characters: the dutiful Shane, joyful Michel, reserved Ren, scheming Brienne and of course the brooding captain Lee cannot be forgotten.
Cait Marie has a pleasant and fluent writing style that draws you into the story. You quickly read several chapters in a row and lose track of time as you do so. Suspense and description alternate well so the story does not get boring. I would have liked to see the characters grow a bit more, but there are 2 more books to come, so I am curious, anything is still possible.
If you are now wondering what adventures Ada and the rest of the crew will encounter at sea, what the deal is with the illness and whether they will succeed in stopping the king, you will have to read this book for yourself. It is definitely a must read if you are looking for a book that is an easy read, filled with adventure, friendship, love, the fate of a kingdom at stake, a memorable curse and a brooding captain 😉. The little Robin Hood elements in the story are also nicely integrated and a pleasant added value.
The Lost Legends #1: Love Love Love this story! I always love finding new authors to enjoy, & this one is definitely a winner!! I enjoyed everything about this tale. I devoured this unique world & all of it’s characters! I was not even expecting the heart shattering moment that had me sobbing, but she immediately made up for that with the following pages. So glad I didn’t throw my kindle. HaHaHaHaHa Seriously though this book is a must read!! I am so excited to read more in this series & any others she has available! #Pirates #Magic #Destiny #Royalty #Cursed #OldMagic #Prophecy #Witchcraft
The Lost Prince #2: This world!! These characters!!! I am obsessed!!! The Lost Prince is the perfect sequel to The Lost Legends! If you like action packed adventure entwined with magic, folk lore, drama, prophecy, destiny, war, & romance this is the world for you! The characters are addicting & their takes original. I have enjoyed getting to know them & their pasts while watching them evolve into the true warriors we heard about. They are diverse in every way with different backgrounds you’d never imagine, & each of them pulled my heart strings in different ways. The feels are very real here. Thank goodness book 3 is in the works because I need more NOW!
The Lost Alliance #3: Yes….Yes….Yes….NOOOOOOO!! A must read series! A unique world with amazing characters you won’t soon forget. The Lost Alliance had everything I’d hoped for in the sequel & then some….but that ending left me screaming! I need The Lost Dreams now!! I must have answers!!!! A truly epic cliffhanger! If you have yet to ready anything by this author I highly recommend the Nihryst series!
So much to say about The Nihyrst Trilogy release!! I loved them individually and this re-read for the trilogy release was even better. With it's polished amazing new content and cover, The tale of the Nihyrst is better than ever. Not only does it include the adventures of each book in the trilogy, but the short stories and bonus chapters as well. I read straight through. Could. Not. Put. It. Down. Even though I have read before, this is one of my favorite series, and I'm always up for a re-read.
If you've never read the series, this is the perfect time to dive in. There's pirates, quests, royalty, adventure, heartache, and love. Did I mention pirates? The whole book hinges on a legend passed from generation to generation and all waiting for Adalina to embark on an adventure. She is fabulous, but my favorite is probably Loxely (a pirate, of course). I also have way to much to say about Shane and Phillip, who I adore more than I can say!! Every character has an amazing personality while embarking on a journey of growth. Cait Marie writes incredibly interesting characters. I could picture any of them on their epic adventure easily.
But, let's discuss the cover. HAVE YOU SEEN THE COVER?!?! It is gorgeous and perfect for the story. There are many hidden clues on the cover. I could gaze at it for hours. So beautiful!
I won't spoil it all here, but if you love fantasy, pirates, love, superb charactization, or all of the above, you should definitely read these books!
I've currently read the first book in the series and can't wait to continue!
Princess Adalina has grown up with the legend of the Nihryst, a group of cursed, immortal warriors. Her older brother, Prince Shane, wants her to forget those fairytales their mother told them, but when Ada happens to overhear their father, the King, planning for war against their neighboring countries, she has to flee the castle and get help. The only ones she can think of as strong enough to stand up against her father are the Nihryst, and she's determined to find them. She manages to get aboard a pirate ship under the leadership of Captain Lee, and even if they're not very helpful to begin with, Ada's not giving up.
I've read Cait Marie's contemporary romance stories earlier - which I really enjoyed - and I'm very grateful for getting the opportunity to now read her fantasy books. And I really love "The Lost Legends"! A mix of Robin Hood and Pirates of the Caribbean - what's not to like?! A mythical legend, pirates, a tough female protagonist, great friendships and an impossible(?) romance - this book has everything I like! Unexpected twists even makes it better, although I wasn't surprised by all of them. I'm so excited to see what happens next, in "The Lost Prince"!
This series is ah-mazing. Perfect for fans of fantasy and fairytale retellings. It combines elements of robin hood and rapunzel, two of my favorites. There's so much representation, and it's done super well. This is definitely a re-read.
An amazing collection of fantasy. The stories cover grief, loss and more. You will be drawn in and never want to leave. I won this collection and reviewing because it was so well written with awesome characters.
