Four stars for a quick overview of a lot of aspects of Japanese Zen. Nothing in-depth here. Lots of great photos!

Inside you'll find: key historical figures in the development of Zen, how different schools of teaching and approaches of philosophy were learned and ultimately a greater understanding of the distillation of this ancient tradition to some of todays common Zen philosophies. There isn't much by way of practical strategy toward zen mediation, however, there are illustrations that support the ideas of Zen philosophy- from the influence of Zen on Calligraphy (p. 30), to Zen inspired architecture "Zuiganji" (p. 84). Overall a nice overview of the history of Zen, and how it travelled from China to Japan.
