Never walk alone after darkCara Strong should’ve heeded those words more carefully. Then again, she never expected a tired waitress, a nobody from a small town, would be anyone’s target. When Cara wakes up, she’s finds herself in a high-end auction. She's shocked when the Don of the Massimo Family takes her back home with him and offers her his protection.
Dante Massimo acquired Cara to spite a rival crime family. Falling for her fiery spirit and her sharp tongue had never been part of his plan. Cara doesn’t belong in his world. She’s too innocent, too good for someone like him. Dante never intended to keep her but he’s changed his mind. He’s beginning to see that she’s exactly what he needs.
Let me just start by saying this one was my own fault. I forgot to check the page count before purchasing this a month ago... $4.27 for an 88 page Novella is hardly fair is it?. Yeah.. I agree.
Normally such a purchase would not have been made by me, but I slipped up.. My bad.. Especially when you consider the fact that this story/dialogue flows like it was written by an AI-Generator Bot.
It's just not a good story. AT. ALL. And it definitely should at least be put on KU if the price for such brief and unremarkable writing is to remain the same 💯
Now, the title of this one? There was nothing even remotely brutal about Don Dante Massimo. First of all, his body guards did all of the heavy lifting.. His character was just a well dressed one dimensional carbon copy of a blank canvas. There was NOTHING intense or deep or complicated about him..
Cara, love the name BTW, wasn't much better than Dante either. And there was no real connection with these two at all either.
The only reasons why I gave this 2 🌟 was because chapter one was the only good chapter here. And for the most part, no grammar or spelling errors. Otherwise, this is a 1 🌟 read.
I would not dare recommend this to anyone who loves this genre, because 1. It's just simply not a good read. 2. It's over priced for such a short and unremarkable story.
This book is about a girl named Cara falling for a mafia don after she gets auctioned off and he wins the bid. This novella has it's cute moments, it isn't dark (like at all), and there's some sweet & spicy moments. I liked it alright, but I didn't enjoy it.
SAFETY: Virgin/celibate: no virgins OM/OW drama: none Tropes: mafia, age gap, instalove HEA?: yes
This is the first book I have read by Winter Sloane and I will definitely be looking for more of her stories. I loved Cara’s character, she was sweet while struggling through her life but somewhat naive. She finds herself in a horrible predicament where she meets Dante, the don of the mafia. Dante is a strong dominant man who has an endearing soft side but only with Cara. This couple struggles to find their way with each other but oh my goodness do they ever find the way. Interesting story!
Cara finds herself in a scary situation right from the start and I felt for her. She went from one situation to another so quickly. Dante was able to get her out of a terrible quandary.
Cara and Dante have so much chemistry. 🔥🔥🔥 The suspense really works well.My main struggle is this – I think the instalove is a bit too insta for the situation imo… She trusts Dante a bit too quickly and it bugs me.
If you enjoy mafia instalove, you may like this book!
I LOVE Mafia romance stories. Some are dark, gritty, and raw. They tear your heart out, stomp on it, and put it back together.
Then, you find another gem like this one, where the mmc is hard and rough but has that sweet, softer side he shows toward the fmc. Their story was cute even though it starts off with her fear and him rescuing her at an auction after being attacked and kidnapped. They slowly grow to love one another and I am here for it!
A tale of a woman alone in the world and the violent world she finds herself in. Dante and Cara work well together as a couple and the storyline is moved forward by scenarios that threaten both of them.

Short and spicy, just the way I enjoy my books when I’m short on time. The author jumps right into the meat of the story with this one. I love how things are not exactly how they seem, sometimes they end up being so much better. Chance brought these amazing characters together, but choice lead them to stay. This book may be short, but the author made it no less intense. I loved the touch of action and danger, it added to the flavor of the story.
This is Book 1 of Mafia Lords. Be aware readers - I wanted to give it 4 stars but I was so shocked when suddenly it was over. I admit to being very ticked off and just disappointed in this author. I hate being taken, hate it. This is just way too little for far too much - almost 6 bucks for less than 70 pages - I find that insulting - we are not stupid readers - if you put book 1 and 2 together (which should have never been divided) you end up with 160 pages (barely) of reading for 11 dollars! You’d better be JK Rowling to ask for that price - nope - this author lost me and my entire group - we won’t be reading any more from this author.

Cara had recently lost the only person she had ever called family, when her step dad became sick she dropped out of school to look after him and help pay the medical bills but nothing could save him, she’s been left alone working as a waitress for a sleazy boss who hits on her every chance he gets and bills she has no idea how she is going to pay. Just when life couldn’t look less bleak she’s taken from street and is up for auction. Sold to the highest bidder Don Dante Massimo for a million dollars, she is to become a mafia boss play thing, only she’s discovering that he is not all that she thinks and soon finds herself in danger to losing her heart to a man she should hate. But what will happen to her when he finally tires of her, will she be cast aside like yesterdays news or could she have found a man who she can love and call family?
Dante Massimo had no plans to attend the auction his brother had bought them tickets too, with a drug shipment being stolen from under his nose by a rival mafia family he has more pressing matters to attend to, but noting his brothers crestfallen face he agrees to go. It was a night that he would never forget when he finds himself bidding on an innocent woman who has fire burning in her veins as she try’s to fight her way out and of course to annoy the very family he was planning to destroy. Cara intrigued him far more than she should and he had no intention of keeping her at first but soon realises that she is everything he needs. But with another family out for his blood and his woman, will he be able to keep her safe or will he lose the only thing he never knew he needed?
This is my first book by this author and I have to say that I throughly enjoyed it. Cara was brave and defiant and Dante was an alpha to be feared. Highly recommended short and sexy 4.2* read.
Brutal Don is the first book in the Mafia Lords series and is the results we would want if we were sold at an auction. At least mine anyway. I loved Cara’s attitude towards the whole thing. Dante is such a gentleman even when we don’t want him to be. It’s a quick cute read.
Spice level (1-5): 🌶️🌶️
Cara would have never imagined that rejecting a coworker would get her abducted and sold at an auction. Lucky when her creepy coworker tries to buy her, he is outbid by a handsome mafia boss. Trying to find the silver lining, she comes to accept her new life and opens her heart to her savior.
I would recommend Brutal Don to all mafia romance readers. If you like mafia, forced proximity, fast burn, short reads, instant attraction, you’ll love Brutal Don. This book does contain unaliving, attempted murder, mafia stuff, human trafficking. For the readers who want a short read of two opposites quickly falling for each other this one is for you!
Warning: Reading Brutal Don may make you purposely get abducted in hopes the one that buys you turns out to be a hot mafia boss. May make you work on your cooking skills. May make you embrace your new life and accept the good things. Read responsibly.

Brutal Don is the first novella in Mafia Lords series. After being kidnapped and trafficked through the mafia, Cara is purchased by a mafia Don. Instead of a dark and gritty mafia story, Brutal Don is full of hope and light. Cara is shocked when she discovers who kidnapped her and took part in the auction to buy her. The Don who bought her, however, may not be any better than the fate she escaped when he won.
Dante is having some mob issues with a rival. To put them in their place, and prove he means business, he outbids the rival. Dante also finds himself falling for the innocent woman, wanting to keep her safe. Too bad his rival has other plans.
Such a sweet mafia story – words I’ve never used to describe a book based on the mafia before. There are some dramatic moments, but Brutal Don was anything but, and I really enjoyed reading mafia story in a different tone. There are certain events that could trigger a reader so please beware.
This is book one in The Mafia Lords series and it is Cara and Dante’s story. When Cara finished her shift at the diner she was walking home worrying about all the medical bills that she still had to pay after losing the last person in her life only to be drugged and kidnapped and waking up in a cage and that is when she realised how much danger she was in as she was told that she would fetch a good price at the auction. Dante is the Don of the Massimo family and they controlled Ringsor City but when he decided to go to the auction he was not expecting to see a woman who completely intrigued him so he bought her which is something that he wouldn’t normally do. This might be a short read but it certainly packs a punch and the chemistry between Cara and Dante is so strong and intense that is sizzles off the pages of this book and I can’t wait to read more books in this series.
Cara is alone in the world, her father has died, leaving her a bunch of debt. She is doing all she can to make ends meeting working as a waitress. She does not live far from where she works, and never expected to abducted on the way home. When she wakes she finds herself in a cage and she is about to be auctioned to the highest bidder.
Don Dante Massimo did not want to go to the auction, his younger brother talked him into it. He has no intention on bidding on anyone. He does see a woman that catches his eye, and his rival is bidding on her. He makes sure he out bids him.
He planned on keeping her but she surprises him. He wants nothing more than to keep her for ever. When there is attempt to abduct her from his protection, he will find who is responsible.

She needs a savior......but will he be the devil instead?
Brutal Don is the first book in the Mafia Lords series. It is the story of Cara Strong and Dante Massimo. She moved to Ringsor City six months ago from her hometown in Nebraska with her foster father as he had a new job. But things have not worked out as he was diagnosed with cancer and died, leaving her with his medical bills to pay. So she dropped out of college and has been working as a waitress at a local diner. Dante is the Don of the Massimo familia, which is powerful and basically rules Ringsor City. One night things get worse for Cara and Dante may end up being the devil or her savior........the answer is still to be determined. This is a fast paced, darker story-line, with some violence and a HEA. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next in the series.
Brutal Don by Winter Sloane was the perfect insta-love dark mafia romance. I loved the originality of the characters and world that the author created. The characters were complex and the world that the author created was beautifully written. I loved the action, suspense, and angst that took place in this book. I couldn't put the book down because I wanted to see what would happen next. This is a dark-themed mafia romance.
Cara is independent, smart, and determined. I loved her in this book. I loved the determination and her wits. Dante was the Don and always got what he wanted. I loved his loyalty to his family and friends. He was dark, broody, decisive, and possessive. Dante and Cara were beautifully written together. I loved the angst they dealt with in this book. It was enticing and spicy.

Dante jump off the page the moment you started reading. Cara set herself apart from the rest by her inner dialogue.
The way these two got together was unconventional but once there you see the relationshi nont only grow but you see the change in Dante and Cara. And let us not foget the lame-brain Ted, the reason Cara was with Dante to begin with.
I love the brutalness of Dante in his life but his interactions/converstations with Cara and talking through her actions you saw him not only understaanding her but understand his world through her eyes.
S/N: Honarable mention of Jake is perfect - silent friend/protector of Cara and quiet conscious of Dante.

Cara is down on her luck. Her father recently passed away. She's left with paying his medical bills and mourning while working a dead-end waitressing job. Leaving work one evening her boss, Ted, asks to drive her home. Previously being warned by others that she works with, she turns him down. He though has other plans and kidnaps her only to place her up for auction. Enter Dante. He despises Ted. When he sees Ted bid on Cara, Dante doubles the bid to rescue and protect her from Ted. Cara is grateful to not have to go with Ted, but did she just trade one problem for another? Will Dante protect her, or kill her? Is it possible for her to fall in love with her captor? I loved Cara and Dante’s story! Cara’s life has always been difficult but she is strong, resilient, and intelligent. The rock bottom occurs when she awakens in a cage after being kidnapped then sold at auction. Dante buys her only as a means to an end. The man who wanted her needed a lesson in denial of his desires.
Winter used a very compact style to craft a story with strong characters, a realistic progression of their relationship, and a beautiful ending. There’s danger, sexual attraction with some really spectacular sex scenes, and drama. Dante is a fantastic character: he’s patient, passionate, and methodical.

I can’t get enough of mafia-esque romance and Cara and Dante’s story was a solid entry into the genre. Plucked out of her (not so rosy) existence, Cara faced a future she’d only read about in the news. While Dante was not what she expected, fear turned to survival (and even more shocking) love…
Without the grittier elements (which I was not unhappy about lol), there was enough darkness to keep it very interesting. Yes, it was insta-love (this was a novella and things had to move quickly) their relationship was still a wild ride.
So much drama in a little package, this story was a bite-sized, entertaining morsel…

Wow, this was one jam intrigue, the story was captivating and the characters were really sensational. This story was about Cara and Dante Masaimo, Cara just locked up at work as tired as she was she was walked home, on her way home she was kidnapped then put in a cage they kept her drugged until the next day. Dante bid on her at an auction he couldn't understand why, there was just something about her. Her old boss was trying to get to her but she was guarded. There was so much in this book it was exciting to read.

After refusing her creepy boss's offer of a ride home Cara is snatched off the road and thrown in a cage. When she comes to its to be cleaned up for an auction. When Dante sees her there's an instant spark for him. He out bids everyone to claim her as his own. Its not long before he realizes that he wants her for keeps. Can he convince her to take a chance on him? Will she be safe with him?
This is an amazing story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

What I think- this was not Sloane’s best. The characters were undeveloped. The erotic scenes were fairly good, but the plot was thin. The heroine got over being bought pretty quickly; there weren’t confrontation scenes. The whole story was very much on the surface.
Verdict- skip this and try one of Sloane’s MC Romance books. Those are pretty good.

Not sure what to think about this. It is a Mafia Romance but more of a Contemporary vs Dark? It is a Great Read do not get me wrong but this book threw me for a loop. It seemed to get dark and twisted then turned into more of a love Story (HEA). It is a good recommendation for new readers or new readers to the mafia romances for sure. It was not a disappointment. Great on the grammar and spelling, mild suspense, Trigger warnings are Human Trafficking at the beginning and horrible attempts of kidnapping but you laugh later about it once you read more into it.

Caras life is turned upside down when she is taken and put up for auction, she never expected to catch the eye of mafia Don, Dante. Dante was intrigued by Cara at first sight but even more so because his rival wanted her too. But in buying Cara he puts a target on her, and he's the only one that can protect her, even if she just wants to escape him. But could their time together become something more than captor and captive?Well written steamy, desires, action and more.

This is a quick, hot mafia read. Cara was leaving work and was kidnapped, woke up in a cage and sold at an auction. Dante is a Mafia Don. He was dragged to the auction by his brother who told him he worked too much. Dante had no intention of bidding until he saw Cara's spunk and fight. Also a rival boss of his wanted Cara for his nephew who was Cara's boss at the diner. Dante then won her. I really enjoyed her book. I'm waiting for more!.

Cara is an overworked waitress struggling to pay her father’s medical bills after his passing. Dante is a mafia Don ruling his empire. Cara is abducted while walking home from work and wakes up in a cage being auctioned off to the highest bidder. That happens to be Dante. He buys her before the rival Gambino mafia can. Cara starts to feel things for Dante she doesn’t think she should feel considering he bought her. Dante wasn’t looking for love but can’t deny what he feels either.

When Cara is abducted and auctioned off Dante comes to her rescue buying her before her previous employer could. It will start a confrontation between two Dons. Cara is not sure what to expect from Dante but with time she learns to trust him and right when their relationship gets to where they want it to be. Luigi and Ted make their play. Will Dante be able to keep his family and Cara safe. This story kept me glued to the pages to see how it will end for Dante and Cara.

Winter Sloane has written a new series and this is the first book in the Mafia Lords series. Cara is soft and sweet and Dante is the opposite. When Cara is auctioned off at an auction after being kidnapped, and Dante sees her there, he does everything he can to get the winning bid, especially since he doesn't want his rival to run off with her. This was a beautiful story with suspense, action and softness and romance. Highly recommended.
