✧˖° One of my new favorite college-set romance books!
I've wanted to read this series for a while. I def got intrigued by book one but haven't had the chance to buy the book and read it. But I did get the second book immediately because EJ knows how to market her book and I saw her reels and posts about Bide and yeah, I swear this book was made specifically for ME. It has everything I want in a romance, so let me tell you about it.
♡ It's a long book Almost 500 pages, Bide is pretty thicc. You would wonder why a college-set New Adult sports romance would be almost 500 pages, right? It works perfectly. This book spans maybe 1 year and you see pretty much a lot of it. For readers to believe in a romance, I feel like they need to see how the relationship develops. We sometimes complain that some books are "too much talk, not enough show" and it happens! You are told their relationship goes from point A to point B pretty quickly and then readers are like "but I didn't see that development!" Yeah, this book is not like that. You can clearly see when they go from just like to love. Every single scene, every single conversation, is important to further develop this relationship in a way that it feels natural and organic.
♡ Dynamics and tropes Luna is the confident, party girl who doesn't believe in love, she's better with one-night stands. While Jackson is the shy, blushing baseball player who has been crushing on the beautiful bartender (Luna). They're very much opposites at the beginning, but the chemistry is instant and the sparks fly whenever they interacted. But then you quickly learn that Jackson is shy with other company, but when he's with Luna alone and after knowing her for a bit, he puts down his walls and is this dirty talker who *fans self* says the most wicked things.
♡ I love the third-act breakup because it hurt! Oh baby. I don't know if I should spoil it, so I'm not gonna say much. If you follow me on twitter, you might have seen a tweet about this specifically so you can go over there if you want to know more. The third-act break up happens at the perfect time and for them to go back together, it's also the perfect amount pages to get to the happily ever after. You see, sometimes for me I feel like the third-act breakup happens at the very end when then you don't have a lot of time to finish it in a way that makes me feel that it was worth it. The groveling or getting back together part doesn't feel like it took much. But this book? YOU WILL SCREAM AND HURT ALONGSIDE THE CHARACTER SOBS. You clearly see they love each other and always will be there for one another. They are seriously their loves of their lives, I'm serious.
♡ Friendships Big books gives you a chance to get to know a lot of the secondary characters. And especially when it comes to college-set books, when friendships and found family is so very important to the main characters! Bide gave us this and more because you not only get the best friend group, but you also get Jackson's sisters who are really the very best. I love how they interact with Luna throughout the whole book!!!!
I seriously need to read the first book because I think some scenes overlap and you would see those scenes from Amelia and Nick's POV while I saw them in this book through Luna and Jackson's POV. It would be so interesting!! Plus I do really want to know more about Amelia and Nick because I was rooting for them in this book so hard even though we don't know that much. Still, I do really love this series and wish for more (hopefully EJ decides to write more books because there are SO MANY CHARACTERS WHO NEED THEIR HEAS!).
I did not just read 100 pages of a pining MMC, 250 pages of a happily inlove couple, only for them to break up over something so minor and have the FMC “spiral” and sleep around with various strangers.
I am assuming these two end up together at the end of the book, but after reading a scene of the FMC having a one night stand I can’t say I really care.
She honestly doesn’t deserve the MMC so I am not going to continue to read about her and her happy ending.

This book really put me through all the emotions, but I LOVED IT SO MUCH!! I truly did not want this book to end 😭
I fell in love with Luna & Jackson from the MOMENT they showed up on the page in Unexpected (first book in the series, highly recommend), and I was extremely happy about them getting their own book. They have the kind of relationship dynamic that I absolutely LIVE AND BREATHE for, and I loved getting to know them better in Bide because they are everything to me 🤧 Even the smallest of interactions that they had left me with butterflies the entire time.
Luna is the kind of person I seriously want to be friends with and also who I want to be when I grow up 🫶 I found myself relating to her at times, and, even though she frustrated me at times, I just adored her. I can’t really explain it, but I felt an undeniable pull towards her character that will stick with me for a long time.
Jackson is truly the quiet yet protective man of my DREAMS!! He had many dimensions to him, all of which I loved — his range goes from being super flustered around her to using “good girl” very effectively 🥵 Always watch out for the quiet because they hit different… He always noticed every little thing about Luna, was ready and willing to do anything for her, and loved her for all that she was. What more can you really ask for 🥲 There was also this thing that he did where he was always gently taking her hands to kiss them, and I SIMPLY COULD NOT TAKE IT OKAY?!
Another thing I want to comment on is how uniquely this book is paced. I don’t want to give too much away, but, even though I could have read a million more pages about Luna & Jackson despite how long this book already is, I loved that you really get the all-encompassing scope of their story — down to every last messy yet beautiful moment 🥹
Overall, this book and this series easily became an all-time favorite of mine. Luna & Jackson have my entire heart forever and ever 💙 I also loved the continued found family friend group vibes. Seeing Nick’s (from Unexpected) early days of being obsessed with Amelia was also an amazing sight to see 😌 EJ writes some of THE best characters and man-simps, and I’m so grateful to have discovered her. I’m so excited to read more from her, truly so underrated 💌
The only reason I read the first 2 books is because I want to read the 3rd one 😩 #sueme but I still did enjoy this book and the first one (loved the first one more)
If you have not read 'Unexpected' yet, this book revolves around Jackson & Luna's story, whom we see in book one if Unexpected and E.J Blaise does not disappoint.
I loved this book just as much as 'Unexpected' -- Luna, our fmc, who has ADHD and I just love her, her ferocious loyalty towards those she cares for, this book series is like a breath of fresh air. Commonly amongst books like this, they tend to lean towards being cliche and a bit overbearing for me, which is why I usually avoid college tropes and even sport tropes because they can be almost too predictable but I found that I didn't mind any of these tropes in this book because it was portrayed so beautifully. This book or any book of EJ Blaise deserves so much hype and love because they deserve them.
I loved the side characters just as much as the main characters, I did not mind the jumps in between, which again I usually avoid. There's also a type of comedy factor that just ties it all together.
EJ Blaise is becoming one of my favourite authors so far.
What a beautiful book. To be seen is to be LOVED. I’ve never read a more green flag book boyfriend, when I say Jackson is utterly obsessed with Luna… I MEAN IT. His big fat crush is so endearing and their tumble into a relationship coaxed by his willingness to wait for the right time is just UGH!!
It’s so refreshing to read about two people with innocent crushes on one another and make each other nervous. Just two college students trying to figure out this thing we call life, together. The love in this book was palpable, even when apart, it was clear it was always going to be end game for these two.
Maybe 3.5. I was in a slow reading mood and didn’t binge but I loveeee jackson, his sisters and this friend group so much 🥹 any parts with Nick, Cass and Ben made me so happy 🫶 I didn’t love the reason for all the drama though… I saw it coming but I just didn’t expect Luna to handle it the way she did. And I didn’t like how she handled it 😂 BUT the ending made me very happy. Love the writing and all the characters. Can’t wait for the next book 💜
google: how to see through my tears so i can write this review
where do i even start.. hardened girl x pathetic boy you are SO loved by me. jacksonluna squeezed my heart more than i ever thought was possible after reading nickamelias book and tbh im totally okay with it. my only fear is that they may have ruined me i don’t know how i will ever move on 😭
i LOVED the first one, and i was so excited to read this one.
now, the first 60% were a solid 4⭐️, but then that FUCKING AFTER PART CAME?! WHAT THE ACTUAL LIVING HELL WAS THAT?!
it was so EXTREMELY unnecessary and made absolutely zero sense? also i guessed the “plot twist” the first time a certain someone was introduced. i was not shocked at all, and i don’t understand why it suddenly became the biggest deal?
jackson, my love, i will defend you till the day i die. you did not deserve anything that happened to you.
gotta be 100% and say that i didn’t like any of his sisters. eliza was sweet but why were they all so rude to luna the first time they met her? they were really judgemental and simply mean to her for no reason at all.
(this is like the smallest thing but it just annoyed me, because why would his sisters call him Oscar when he say’s multiple times that he hates it. he gave them a name he wanted them to call him, but they refused. then alexandra “lux” does the same thing and that sticks?)
dnf 16%. i didn’t like this book like at all, it isn’t safe, and way too long for my liking safety: * h is a player, i’d say H is not very experienced, he doesn’t like indulging in hookups * owd: so he basically in chapter 6 took a girl home while being super drunk but they only kissed and fondled before passing out (not on page); also he has an ex gf Caroline, she is hung up on him; in chapter 9 there is a girl sitting his lap even tho he didn’t encourage it * omd: in chapter 2 she slept with her non-exclusive fuck buddy owen; in chapter 7 she slept with a random guy (not on page)
What an absolute best read to end the year!🤭❤️ I absolutely adore EJ’s writing, her stories revolve around imperfect characters and showcases their internal struggles as much as their outer struggles too!! She has a way with words that pulls you in and keeps you seated from the first page until the end!! I absolutely love it!! I read Unexpected a couple months ago and figured it was time for Luna and Jackson to shine and shine they did!! UGH I LOVE the growth these two had, and Jackson!! Oh my sweet Jackson, THE BEST BOOK BOYFRIEND!! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!😭❤️ he’s pure, wholesome and just the epitome of everything a girl dreams of in a man!! And Luna!! Ahh I wish I could hug her, she deserves THE world!! The sh*t she went through was heartbreaking and I FELT her pain. And the “after” portion of the story OHMIGOD!! ASSDSGHS my heart was going THRUUU IT!! Also honorable mention to Serenity Ranch and all its glory, take me there anytime!!🤭🤭 I can’t wait to read Cass’ story next!!!❤️❤️
Jackson is the greenest flag to ever exist, he's just butterflies in your stomach, toes curling and hair twirling kind of male character. Call me Jackson!!😌🤪
This was suchba cute read. I love the dynamic between a shy boy in public but so *spicy* in private lol
The first half was so good I devoured it but the break up was so unnecessary. One of the tropes I hate is having miscommunication that could have been solved if you just sit down and fucking act like an adult. gosh, was that really necessary? It was such a bad move that my interest went out in the fucking window and I was skipping just to end it loo
I would think, God, how fitting she's named after a goddess.
i started this book exactly 5 minutes after it came out on kindle, because yes, i was that desperate, and i was done reading in around 12 hours. basically one sitting. i love love love lunajackson so much. the shy x flirt always gets me and they prove why the trope is superior.
Ok Jackson??? I’m obsessed. I only give it 3 stars bc it was too long. The third act was heartbreaking????? She had sex with so many ppl while he couldn’t do it with one person!!!! Wow. So crazy. I did feel bad for Luna when she found out about her dad but it was reallly too much for pushing Jackson away.
Jackson was the ideal boyfriend!! This made me want to re-read Nick & Amelia’s book (which was 5 stars!!!).

this book. THIS FREAKING BOOK! I really went into this thinking there was no way I could love it as much as I loved unexpected and boy oh boy was I proven wrong. Luna and Jackson are EVERYTHING!!! I love that this book was split up into three parts, and that - even though parts of the book take place at the same times written about in Unexpected - it didn't feel like we were constantly going over what had already happened in previous books, just from a different POV. My only real complaint is that I didn't get to see as much of Amelia-Kate-Luna friendship goodness, that's my family I missed them!
Before:
'He's an enigma, Oscar Jackson. An uncrackable juxtaposition of a man.'
I loved seeing the lead up to Jackson and Luna! They're one of the best examples of opposites attract and I enjoyed it so much. Jackson was so cute when he was all flustered and unsure around Luna, and my girl just kept bulldozing on through LMAOOO I love her for it though. AND THEIR CHAT IN THE ART STORE!? Come awnnnnn I LOVE THEM SO MUCH!!!
During:
'I've never been one to feel ... breakable. To be treated as such. Delicate is not a word often - or ever - used to describe me and yet, that is exactly how Oscar Jackson treats me.'
okay, maybe it was just me but ... I was not expecting them to wait so long to hook up? lmaooo idk maybe it was mentioned in Unexpected and I have just wiped that detail from my brain but it took them a goddamn WHILE and I loved every moment of the wait hehe
I love the duality of Jackson though - the shy, sweet, nervous guy versus the 'Dirty Jackson. Rough Jackson. Kinda Slutty Jackson.' OOFT!! that's. my. man. !!! I love Jackson and Luna's banter, their constant flintiness and teasing is so fun and has me giggling and squealing every time. JACKSON WANTING TO TAKE LUNA ON A DATE FIRST MY GOD I CAN'T SAY IT ENOUGH I LOVE THIS MAN!!!
The way they love each other is just so good. I love that Jackson doesn't judge her for her past, he doesn't care if she's slept with hundreds of guys or none at all, he only cares that she's committed to him while they're together - just as he's committed to her <3
I loved Jackson meeting Luna's mum, but Luna meeting the Jackson sisters was one of my favourite moments! All the time they spend on Serenity Ranch together was just so sweet and I loved it so much - Eliza and Luna's friendship is so cute, and I love her getting to know Clyde. and the sunset on the cliff? SWOON! I love seeing Jackson with his sisters too, he's so protective over them and wants to keep them safe from everyone and everything - that's father FR!!!
'I like Oscar Jackson and it's fucking terrifying.'
I really liked Pen and Luna's friendship - I had a feeling about Professor Jacobs and my god when that moment hit, I was still not fully prepared! I felt so bad for Pen and Luna, but especially Luna - the way her entire perspective of herself shifts after finding out broke my heart, I just wanted to wrap her in bubble wrap and protect her from the world! and Jackson and Luna's breakup? BROKE ME FR.
After:
"This isn't about you." "Then why am I the one that got hurt?"
this was both my most and least favourite part of the book. SIX FUCKING MONTHS APART? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? Watching Luna drown in the weight of everything that was happening and not being able to talk to the people around her, watching Jackson struggle with his heartbreak UGH I COULD NOT HANDLE IT! When they see each other again at the bar was so bittersweet, I was in AGONY! I just wanted them to push all the shit aside and let each other in even though I knew why they were struggling to do so. I love that Jackson still cares about her, that he was looking out for her because he knew she wasn't able to fully do so herself, but also that he wasn't trying to stop her from living her life without him if that was truly what she wanted.
the way Luna and Jackson keep showing up for each other despite not being together ugh that's soulmatism right there! They keep toeing the line between friends and more, and every time I thought they were going to give in they kept fucking it up I was ready to rip my hair out!!! but it made it that much better when Luna finally told Jackson everything that was going on and they FINALLY gave their relationship another chance.
"I don't know if I can do it again?" "Love me?" "Lose you." "... I got you to trust me once, Luna. I can do it again."
Jackson doing everything he can to assure Luna that she is safe with him and that he's not letting her go - I said it once and I'll say it again I LOVE THIS MAN !!!
Jackson showing up for dinner and Luna taking him to the hospital when Lux is in trouble - I love seeing them fully commit to their relationship and rebuild <3 Also, can we talk about Oscar standing up to his Dad and grandparents? I'M SO PROUD OF HIM!! And just when I was starting to worry that Jackson buying the ranch would become a problem for his and Luna's relationship, and then he built a house for them ON HIS FAVOURITE SPOT OF THE RANCH? Everyone needs an Oscar Jackson in their lives!!
And can we talk about LUX!? I think she was my favourite character of this whole book (sorry luna and Jackson) I just love everything about her, and her friendship with Luna is one of my favourite things - the way Luna supports her through her pregnancy and telling Jackson I freaking love them <3
Despite this lengthy review, I feel like I do not have adequate words to describe how much I loved this book! Gonna need Jane to drop the next book right this instant actually. My sweetheart Luna and handsome Jackson I love you forever <3
It’s 1 am and I’m shook, I’m emotional, and I’ll never recover - This book was like 500 pages but if it was any shorter, I would’ve been mad??? Like, it went through their love story so perfectly and gave me the journey I needed to go through to really connect & love these characters as much as I do - This was amazing. One of my fav reads of the month. Like Jackson was so perfect, that man was patient, kind, loving, and absolutely adored Luna…like when I say he was perfect, he was PERFECT. - I’m honestly just speechless…sitting here thinking how will I ever get over this book? I simply don’t think I can. I loved it. 100/10. I’m obsessed.
No surprise that it’s a 5 star, but wow. Just wow. Jackson is everything. The shy boy/confident girl trope mixed with him being mouthy in bed is literal perfection.
The angst BROKE ME. I was so sad for both of them. But that’s the mark of excellent writing. I was hurting as they were hurting. The investment I had in this story is on another level. This friend group is everything, Erin’s writing is everything, Jackson is everything.
THE EPILOGUE. Amazing. It’s past midnight and my brain isn’t working but honestly read this. It’ll break your heart but mend it so purely.
ONE OF MY FAV BOOKS OF 2023 !!! this book really put me through ALL the emotions and thats one of the many reasons why I loved it so much.
jackson is the man of my dreams, period. the fact that he always noticed every little thing about luna and was willing to do anything for her !! also, he went from being super flustered around ger to call her "good girl" ... RUN TO READ IT !
luna and jackson definitely have my entire heart forever and ever <3
I guess i have to thank Luna for half of my personality Her relationship with Jackson was everything i could’ve asked for( talk about the quiet ones are the dirtiest) The found family never misses in these books
i literally think this is the best college romance i’ve read ☹️⭐️💝
this could’ve strictly been a book about luna and i would’ve enjoyed it all the same, possible even more. she was so cutesie and i loveddd her relationship w her friends and how she was always on the frontlines for them. recently i haven’t been seeing that many healthy female friendships in romance so this made me so happy. i am also a hugeeee fan of the ‘party girl’ trope or whatever you wanna call it. she was just so lovely all around and i keep going back to reread for her.
jacksonnn ☺️☺️ srsly one of the best mmc’s ive seen in a minute. he was just so soft and patient with luna it made my heart warm. i love love Love how he always stood up for luna even when she didn’t need it bc she was very capable. he even stood up to his friends and his sisters when they tried to get on her for something and that made me really happy. #BRING_BACK_NERDY_MEN !!!! he was so obsessed w her it made me have to fight the smile on my face multiple timessss.
lunajackson as a couple is smth that is causing me the Biggest brain rot i srsly love them so much it’s sickening. they’re just so perfect together and one of the best couples ive ever read about. also the plot in this !!!!!!!! i loved the twists even though i instantly picked up on the one with luna 😭 this book was just so perfect for me.
the only thing that i didn’t like was nick and his attitude. i will never like the playboy trope and also the way he acted towards luna??? absolutely not. he was cute w amelia but i just cannot when he opens his mouth. he wasn’t even a big problem i just don’t like him 😭
OTHER THAN THATTT ! super fun and cute read and i will never stop thinking about this. ej blaise has definitely become a goto author for me. ☺️
7.4/10 it’s not that it’s not enjoyable. at first it was but the length made me hate the book
the way this guy compliments her like it’s not cringe at all but you can tell it comes from his gut!
i feel like beautiful broken rules by kimberly lauren did this plot WAYYY better.
this book is too damn long
in the nicest way, i don’t care about her dad situation
i hated the way luna dealt with the situation. i hated the length of this book. i hated how the author tried to make the characters have depth but it didn’t really work cus despite the book being long the plot felt cheap and unenjoyable at times. i didn’t like how inconsistent jackson’s personality was, like is he shy or cocky? i don’t like how much smut like i can’t deal with much anyway but at times i think this book was excessive, i started skipping them after i reach halfway in the book
here’s the thing: lunajackson is probably one of my favorite couples of all time, but the third act breakup? no fucking thank you. the subplot with luna and pen being sisters and pen’s dad cheating on his wife with luna’s mom who was his STUDENT? no fucking thank you again. i like how the book was divided into “before, during, and after” but like knowing they were going to breakup at some point and then get back together really made me sad throughout the course of reading. i honestly love lunajackson (especially when they were at serenity ranch doing all their adorable domestic shit) but the complicated breakup and getting back together really threw me for a loop.
That last half of the book physically hurt me so much it felt like punch to the gut. But then I was happy. But that part before the happy made me vomit.
