Saving Her Marriage to the Duke

“Watch yourself, wife, or I will become the monster you are making me out to be.”

The Duchess of Lancaster is so depraved that she would let just anyone in her bed. At least this is what the gossip columns declare about Arabella. If only they knew these rumors were no more than a ploy to ruse her elusive husband back to her…

Having lost everything he loved once already, Evan doesn’t intend to go down the same path ever again or let himself love. And he is willing to stay away from his alluring wife for another five years if that is what it takes.

When news of Arabella’s infidelity reaches Evan, he has no choice but to return to London and teach his wife some discipline and decorum. Only… what he finds instead is disobedience. And the most delicious lips he was ever hoping to kiss.

Very enjoyable

I definitely liked this story. A little too many intimate scenes but the plot was good. He left his wife alone in an unconsummated marriage for five years. He had lost his first wife and unborn child and was in mourning. He didn't want to go through that again. She was the victim of vile slurs. They said she was cheating on him all the time and so his Grandmother gets him to go find her and sort it all out. There are total misunderstandings and treachery but somewhere along the way they fall in love. There is a terrible twist at the end that really caught me off guard and that is unusual. There was another twist I totally saw coming but it was still very well done. Safe and free in KU.

A steamy story. We have a duke who lost his first wife whilst she was expecting, who has remarried but apparently they live separate lives for around 5 years and the marriage is not consummated because he is afraid it might kill his new wife. There is gossip that she is behaving like a wanton.
The story just did not work for me. He apparently will not meet his new wife because he is afraid of losing her if she has a child, like his first wife. He does not even respond to her letters. He admits he did not love his first wife (it takes a while in the book to actually understand they are married - I thought at one time she was expecting his child so he was going to marry her), but seems depressed by her death and wants nothing to do with women.
His wife meanwhile wants to be with him, and has one of his cousins, seemingly a rake, as a close friend of hers as well as her brother and sister in law. Her sister in law seems to keep wanting lavish parties at the duchesses cost. To me it seemed as if they were just using her for the house and her money, as she was not worried about parties and balls.
When they eventually get together he admits he is scared of her becoming pregnant and dying and he will not be involved for that reason and will return to the country living apart again. However, until he decides to leave he happily continues to sleep with her - he does know this can lead to pregnancy, the one thing he is trying to avoid? Bizarre.
Then there is the dowager. We hear she used to be kind but have no idea what has made her bitter. She comes to London with the Duke, but just appears spasmodically in the story. At one point she demands a meeting with the duke and duchess, which we are told was ‘terrifying’ by the duchess, and apparently it had been a ‘spirited’ conversation. About what? We do not know what was discussed to make it terrifying, just that it was. Also what is the dowager doing the rest of the time?
The duke thinks (quite rightly) that the family has an enemy spreading the rumours, but we never learn who? I assume it was the dowager I may have missed it being confirmed as I was skim reading towards the end.
I have no idea why the dowager was murdering the duchess. It’s the duke who has been staying away from her, so naturally there has been no heir to date. The duke and duchess also discover other crimes the dowager has committed when going through her papers - don’t think we know what crimes.
And not entirely sure why the duke’s cousin needed to be a secret gay person. Not sure what that brought to the story which is about the duchess and duke.
Very very odd and confusing - all of it. So it was not for me.

Arabella and Evan reunite after 5 years of marriage where they have been living separate lives after a touch of scandal hits the news in a big way claiming that Arabella has taken lovers (maybe many lovers). Evan the absent husband (and Duke) comes back to town to teach Arabella a thing or two about how to behave as "his" Duchess... only to find himself drawn to his wife in ways he hoped he wouldn't be due to the tragic loss of his first wife that he has never allowed himself to move on from.

Drama occurs with a wayward cousin with secrets of his own and a super mean Grandmother (the dowager duchess) who is up to shady shenanigans.

Can the Duke get over his past heartache and give this new love a chance?

Wrote more about this on my blog:
https://elbyslibrary.blogspot.com/202...

*Duke *scandal *historical romance *spice (open door and a lot of it) *2nd chance for romance *happy ending

*miscommunication/no communication

While I don't necessarily think the book was "bad" it was just an ok historical romance novel for me. It had a lot of extra drama:

-I got irritated with both male and female leads for their lack of communication and the running away that Evan did, both were a bit immature at times.
-I also was irritated with Arabella's sister-in-law for seeming to just want to spend all of Arabella's money on parties with little care to how she is feeling about anything Arabella basically tells her that she is sad and not in the party mood and the sister is like "So what lets party" (not in those words but you get the idea).
-Then the Duke's cousin is supposed to be Arabella's really good friend but places her in a bad situation because it will hurt the other person that he was actually with... well it hurt Arabella at the time and friends don't do that to friends.

Opening Up To Love
A totally different concept with this story. Where a storyline usually begins with how they met and builds up to the relationship, this one begins already married for five years. In saying that there lies all the drama. Mysteries, lies, dark secrets, rumors, longing, loneliness, are a few to mention. Besides siblings, a cousin, and a mean grandmother . All wrapped around in the Hope of this couple finally finding each other. Emotionally heart wrenching.
The Dutchess Arabella of Lancaster and Evan Garter the Duke of Lancaster were married for five years. They lived separated and she had no reason why. He was holding on to a dark secret. Finally meeting her to confront her about some awful rumors things finally start to happen. The ups and downs of there relationship begins, along with many surprising twists.
This story is overwhelmingly beautifully told. It connects with you emotions and feeling that you feel for a Arabella and Evan as if you knew them. What a most enjoyable read !

This entertaining read turned out to be much more than the typical second chance romance. Evan is emotionally damaged from the loss of his first wife and baby. His family presses him into a second marriage with the unsuspecting Arabella. Unwilling to risk his heart a second time, Evan ignores Arabella for the first five years of their marriage. Finally, after hearing scandalous rumors of his wife's adultery, Evan returns to London. Arabella is glad to see her husband again and hopes that he is willing to give their marriage a chance. Unfortunately for the young couple, there are quite a few surprises in store for them. There was deception, betrayal, violence and danger. There were also joyous moments of humor and passion. Way too much drama to be realistic but still a lot of fun. I received a free ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

Evan, the Duke of Lancaster and Arabella his Duchess have been married for five years. During that time they have not lived together at his insistence. Not knowing why her husband has no desire to be with her, Arabella pushes the issue when rumors of her illicit affairs begin to surface. After Evan discloses the dark, secret which he harbors, he tells Arabella that they must continue to live apart. Heartbroken Arabella resigned herself to the fact they will resume their long distance marriage. There are many characters who add color and intrigue to the story: Evans grandparents, his cousin, Leonard, Arabella‘s, brother, and sister-in-law all have impact on this read.

Saving Her Marriage to the Duke by Ava Adams is fresh and has enough twist to satisfy the most voracious reader of period drama.

Thank you to the author for the advance copy and return for an honest review.

Wonderful

I loved this story and I loved the fact in took a scandal about his wife for the Duke to come to his wife of five years to be sure the rumors were not true. But after coming there he found what a loving and caring person his wife was to everyone including the kindness she show the servants. The Duke (Evan) did not want to fall in love with his wife (Arabella) but in the in that’s exactly what happened, he fell in love with his wife. It was discovered that the rumor was started by her husband’s cousin (Leonard) to cover the fact of his sexual preference. But the most important thing is that their reunion leading them to happily ever after. This is a story worth reading to find out what are the other cliffhangers in this book. Please pick one up and read it , you will enjoy it and be happy you did.

Mhm...

The writing style of this book is decent bur not ver good.

The plot is nothing new except for the LONG time the two MCs have been apart. They got married and haven't seen each other since - as they do not live in the same place. The rumours about her being an adulterous woman could have been interesting but ofc, even after five years, our perfect heroine wouldn't have done anything that outlandish. I was a bit sad and disappointed that there was no handsome neighbour who has captured her heart but fine...

The characters fall a bit flat? Sure, the heroine has a zoo in her home after her husband left her alone for five years and I like that she tries to enjoy life without him and has friends close to her but she also has no backbone and takes her handsome man back immediately after she feels a physical attraction.

All in all, I think I won't finish this. 45% in and quite bored. Don't know what will happen to them and don't care honestly.

I'm still trying to figure out if I liked this book.
It seemed very disjointed. Things things kinds sorta came together in the end, but it was a strange plot. Evan was a very odd man and Arabella was extremely passive. Lot's of "your graces" and a tremendous amount of graphic sex (OK if you like that kind of thing) but no one trusted Arabella for 5 seconds despite obvious set-ups and unanswered questions. Then she would pout and everyone would go formal again. Trusted servants were silenced all the time. Evan was tortured and only came to see his wife after 5 years because his weirdo grandmother made him - the reason behind it didn't make much sense.

Rumors and Secrets.

Duke Evan and Arabella have been married for 5 years but have never lived together and have never consummated their marriage. Arabella wants nothing more than to be with her husband. Evan on the other hand has no intention of getting close to his wife. He lost one wife and and child already and couldn’t handle it again. When rumors of Arabella’s infidelity reach Evan and his grandmother, he has no choice but to return to London to get to the bottom of it for the sake of his family name. This book has great characters, family drama, secrets, rumors, deception, betrayal and lots of passion. Well worth reading.

3.5 STARS

I did like Evan and Arabella together, but initially I thought her attitude was counterproductive to her having the relationship that she desired with her husband. She was letting her pride overrule the necessity to tell him the truth. I didn’t like Evan’s cousin Leonard, who was also Arabella’s best friend. He didn’t seem very supportive and helpful when Evan first returned home. The fact that he was willing to use others to cover his own actions made his friendship seem less genuine. I am glad that they had a happy ending and most of the challenges were saved fairly quickly. I don’t like when things drag on and it takes forever for the happy ending.

While "Saving Her Marriage to the Duke" written by Ava MacAdams is a little too spicy for me, I recognize I am not her target audience. I grew up on Georgette Heyer and Jean Plaidy. The plot is a good one and the characters are certainly interesting and she writes a good set of circumstances for the book, but you must be prepared for the steamy bits and I would warn you to make sure any youngster not read this book. If you are a parent of a preteen I would make sure the book was unavailable in your home. This is just my advice.
I gave it 3 stars but if you like REALLY steamy it could be a 4 star review.

What would you do after your wedding when your husband leaves you the next day, not consumating the marriage and staying away for 5 years without any message from him? Arabella, the Duchess of Lancaster, has such an issue in her marriage. When suddenly she receives word that her husband, Evan, the Duke of Lancaster, and his grandmother will be arriving. What has caused this sudden visit? The more you read, the more intersting this story becomes. The family members of both Evan and Arabella play some very interesting and important parts in this story. Beware the "steamy" parts are steamy!

Hot and steamy

Apart from the main love story of Evan and Arabella their are also two other love stories being told. Ava has written wonderful characters yet again and you are instantly happy for all of them when the twist comes in the last chapter it's a surprise I would recommend this book.

Great book, concealed villain

Great book. The Duke and Duchess became distanced due to misplaced guilt and grief. The Duke, however, wanted to protect the family name and found it necessary to reconnect with his Duchess. Neither knew of the villain in their family who would threaten their happiness.

Husband and wife for five years but living apart. Rumours start about infidelity of the Duchess so her husband returns to town to find out truth. The two soon realise they have feelings for each other but there are other forces at work that may prove fatal to their new found love. For readers of hot steamy romances this is for you. I loved the story

And the Winner takes all

Wonderful story, great staory line, and characters who will steal your heart. A sad Duchess, a broken Duke, a rake of a brother in law, a sister in law, and a brother full of fun, and a Dowager Duchess, spent on evil. When truth and secrets collide,Evan and Arabella will come together and fight for love.
Thank you ♥️

A Marriage of Neglect-Love Abounds!

To avoid a scandal the Duke is brought back to London to confront his wife; but to all avail nothing is proven. His wife seems not to be able to break through to him for the love she desires. However, that love
Seems to prove almost fatal in his desire for her. But there are unseen forces against the two of them.

Rumors: fact or fiction?

Arabella is sent to live in London, away from her husband the Duke. Rumors run wild so the Duke at his grandma’s instance goes to London. What follows is intrigue, love and mysteries solve.

I read this as part of arc, which has no basis on my review.

Enjoyable read

The story line is great. It did not drone on like books repeating everything over and over. The characters are great. My favorite thing about this book is that the story flowed perfectly. Looking forward to reading more from this authir.

Excellent story line. The development of the love between Evan and Arabella was very well written. The culprit identity was surprising. Well written.
