A group of college students go to a cabin in the woods... They expect to spend the weekend drinking and partying... They don't expect to be attacked by a dinosaur... No one ever expects that!
Gory, silly, and self-aware, SPLATTER-SAURUS is a good dose of backwoods fun, with a prehistoric twist! From the demented mind behind THE CLOWN HUNT, NO ONE RIDES FOR FREE, FOR THE SAKE OF, and SOMETHING AKIN TO REVULSION comes the dinosaur-slasher you didn't know you needed!
This is a splatterpunk book. It features obscene language and violence.
I’ve been thinking about the old Carnosaur movies lately. All 3 of them. Even that rip off of that rip off, Raptor. Starring none other than Corbin Bernsen. And this reminded me a lot of those movies. Thin plot, dinosaurs running around killing people, no notable or memorable characters to speak of, the end. This took a very unexpected turn at the very end, which I guess was ok? I’m just really unsure of what this was supposed to be. But even with a lot of shortfalls, you know what saves a story like this? Creature-related violence, and lots of it. And I really, really wanted a nasty bloodbath here, but it wasn’t half as gory as I anticipated. So that was the biggest letdown to me. So this was just ok, and there are plenty of other superior dinosaur horrors out there.
Awesome book! 😆 and I loved the Mass Effect reference. If you're looking for a fast, fun, splattery read, pick this one up! 💀🦖🤘Wonderful job Judith Sonnet as always! And I pictured it as a puppet sometimes and a flickering CGI lol
Sometimes you need a break from deep and challenging reads. Sometimes you need a dumb story to just give you some escapism from the world. And if that’s the case then Sonnet’s Splatter-saurus may be just what the doctor ordered.
What you see is what you get here.
There’s no back story. There’s no depth. Just a rampaging slaughtering teens and disgusting hillbillies alike.
Just like the cheesy SyFy channel original films it’s an homage to, It’s self aware. Never tries to take itself seriously and ends up being quite a bit of gory fun.
And with one of the most ridiculous endings, its sequel is gonna make for even more dumb entertainment that I can’t wait for.
“Splatter- Saurus”, by Judith Sonnet, opens with slaughter. This is an extreme horror novella and sonnet clarified that in the beginning.
Four unsuspecting college students stay in a cabin in the woods for a weekend of partying. Little do they know something dangerous is lurking in the shadow. The human characters are not memorable, but they do not need to be. The dinosaur, who was relentless, was the star of this story.Sonnet describes its appearance, giving the reader a clear image of the prehistoric creature.
“Splatter- Saurus” is a graphic, brutal horror with B movie vibes. The author illustrates every kill in graphic detail, from limbs being ripped off to skull's being crushed. The conclusion was so unexpected. It had me rolling with laughter. It was the perfect way to end the story.
“Splatter-Saurus” has it all: ravenous dinosaur, carnage, gore and scared humans. That checks all of my boxes for a splatter story. Sonnet delivers with an entertaining ending. If are looking for something fun, pick up this novella.
This book was so dumb. I mean like, really ridiculous and absurd. I mean a dinosaur gone wild killing people at a small camp area. Seriously. And that end. Major eye roll. I --- I --- I freaking LOVED IT!!!!
If you are like me, a sucker for B-rated horror(ible) flicks and the old SyFy channel low budget films, you will get a kick out of this book. It is chock full of dinosaur-y, splatter-y fun!
Pop some buttery corn and cozy up in your dinosaur printed blankie and have some blood-soaked fun. Maybe later, pull out those dinosaurs and action figures and re-enact some of the scenes!
This was my first Judith Sonnet book! She's pretty well-known in extreme horror circles, but I've yet to work up the nerve to read one of her heavier works. However, a quick novella about a dinosaur massacring everyone on a getaway vacation was exactly up my alley. The gore was definitely on the extreme side, so if that's not your thing, then you may want to pass on this book. I found Sonnet's writing to be not only well-done in description, but overall entertaining. I mean, you can't take a plot like this seriously and she didn't, so that made this fun to read.
Oh those poor people, getting their heads chomped left and right. I could hear the chewing (also me laughing!) Sonnet describes everything with great abandon, sparing no details. The dinosaur has a lot of those cheesy B-movie vibes, and should take full credit for the silliness of this story. This is an extreme horror tale, mind, and the author makes it clear from the beginning. So if you're into graphic, brutal, sickening fast-paced paleontological horror, plus lots of laughs, read this NOW!
The premise is simple - youngsters going to a lake house to party for the weekend but there be a killer Dino in dem der woods.
I freaking loved this book. I laughed so hard. Then again, I'm the girl who, at 9 years old, busted out laughing in the movie theater during "Jurassic Park" when the guy got eaten off the toilet. The older adults whispered things about inappropriate behavior but my Dad just beamed and said "That's my girl!".
This movie has all the makings of a great B Grade (or lower) movie. Schlock Horror at its best. It's got a cabin by the lake setting, innocent bystanders turned victims, rednecks, booze and lust crazy young adults, a murderous dino, and a surprise twist ending.
Where are the people who made "Sharknado" or "Birdemic: Shock & Terror"? They need to make this in to a movie like yesterday. I would totally watch it with my Dad. I told him about the book, he loved it, and wanted to know when the movie was coming out.
Splatter-saurus, a creature-feature novelette by Judith Sonnet, is fun and brutal and fantastic. It reminds me of the B horror movies I used to watch with my daughter. It even has all the standard elements: backwoods cabin, backwoods creeper-weirdos, young adults looking to party, and, of course, a violent and hungry creature. And blood and guts and violence and sexual situations.
This is a sweet little gory read. A great story and a great mental reset for extreme horror lovers. Highly recommended fun. (and the small stature of the paperback is so adorable)
Im over here obsessing over Judith, every thing i read is better then the last, and im absolutely vibrating waiting on Home to release.
So in the mean time i am reading everything else i can get my hands on . Group of college kids, cabin in the woods, and drinking, is always a bad idea.
So of course i absolutely had to read this one. This is funny, crazy gory fun.
I love how they write slasher but its funny AND good at the same time, not just splatter to splatter.
i can read about murder all the time, but can you read about it the way Judith writes it? I bet not, they are one of my top authors so far for this kind of thing.
crazy to call this a fun read giving what happens but it was! i had a good silly gory time! the afterword comparing this to a syfy movie is very true. i read a lot of serious books (or. well. books that take themselves seriously), so reading something genuinely balls to the wall was refreshing. this also had some great lil tidbits about repressive religious communities though! my biggest (only?) gripe is i had a lot of trouble visualizing the dinosaur despite it being described pretty often.. i’m honestly not sure why. this author is quickly climbing up my autobuy list 🫶
This story is a b-rated movie in book format, which is just good fun. I am a SUCKER for anything with dinosaurs, and this chow-fest is no exception. Totally did not see that ending coming at all either. If you love dinosaurs and horrors and have a good sense of humor, this novella was meant for you.
This was just pure fun. Quick read and really does read like those Syfy or Tubu flicks as mentioned by Judith in the afterthoughts. Excited to see Brian G. Berry's sequel to this! Another great read from Judith.
This is a fun little story about a dinosaur killing some college students. It's as stupid as it sounds and sometimes I like stupid things. The ending was completely unexpected and a nice twist to the story. 3.5 Stars tending to 4 stars.
This book is so incredibly fun. If you are in the mood for a silly B-movie creature feature look no further! It’s a very quick read that will make you laugh, cringe and maybe gag a little. Judith Sonnet’s stories are always the best!
I’m obsessed with dinosaurs, so I had to read this book. I finally got my feet wet in the pond of Judith Sonnets books. It’s my first one and I looooved it. It was reminiscent of the great slasher movies of the 80s. If you like blood and gore, you’ll love this book. I highly recommend it.
