Slaying Dragons #2

Slaying Dragons II - The Rise of the Occult: What Exorcists & Former Occultists Want You to Know

Rate this book
For even the casual observer, it is evident that the world, nearly as a whole, is unmoored from obedience to Almighty God. The number of sins, many of which “cry to Heaven for vengeance,” which saturate the culture and the personal lives of the common man are legion, both in their breadth and in their diabolical quality. This spiritual depravity has invited, into the light of day, the Enemy who has always been working in darkness.

The Rise of the Occult presents to the reader an analysis of this emergence of the Enemy, in which Satan has found it to be the time to stir men back to idolatry, superstition, and ritualized hedonism. Witchcraft, Wicca, magic, Satanism, the New Age, astrology, Yoga, manifesting, and all of its countless variations are captivating the minds of modern men for whom the One True God has either been hidden or has been dismissed in favor of the annihilation of morality. It is this moral autonomy, in which man is “free” to “do as thou wilt,” which is the calling card of all forms of occult practice.

In The Rise of the Occult, by the author of the best-selling spiritual warfare book, Slaying Dragons: What Exorcists See & What We Should Know, the reader will learn:

Where is the occult present in the culture today?
How is the occult luring people, especially the youth, to embrace it?
What are the real dangers of even minor dabbling in occult practices?
Are demons truly active in all forms of occult practice, even witchcraft?
How does a person escape the prison which the demons create for occultists?

These questions, and more, will be answered as the reader hears from former occultists, priests (exorcists and pastors) who have helped them, families who have lost children or parents to the occult, and those who have seen the evil spread of the occult amidst their daily activities.

July 10, 2026: When the same names pop up in different books saying the same thing about the person, my hunch changes to reality. See this in reference to a certain Cardinal mentioned in another review:

The issue of apostasy, mentioned by numerous Cardinals, was a topic of discussion between Fr. Amorth and St. Padre Pio, when, as Fr. Amorth related, they spoke about the third secret of Fatima and the coming “great apostasy” within the Church. As Fr. Amorth stated, Padre Pio was primarily concerned, above all other things, with this great apostasy and the fact that Satan had been introduced into the “bosom of the Church.”[199] Padre Pio was “really tormented” by this great apostasy and told Fr. Amorth that, “within a very short time [Satan] will come to rule a false Church.”[200] Fr. Alphonsus said that the situation with clerical sex abuse, which has been in the news for a few decades, and has clearly been an issue since the 1960s[201], is what caused him to understand the likelihood of occultists in the hierarchy. “The child abuse issues have opened me to this more,” Fr. Alphonsus said. “Even in the present day, like the new Cardinal McElroy a close friend of McCarrick.[202] With the number of things about [McElroy], the media should be all over that, in the negative sense, but instead they praise him. Someone is pulling strings on the human level somewhere. I wouldn’t be surprised [if there are occultists in the hierarchy]; it makes perfect sense. Get the wolf in with the sheep and have a field day.” p. 74 The putting of the name in bold was added.

As we come to terms with the fact that our culture truly is surrounded by idols, we must begin to let our spirits be stirred within us as well and, like St. Paul, increase our reliance on the presence of Christ in our souls. By doing so, living in the fullness of the Truth and embracing the complete sacramental life provided by the Church, we can maintain our own faith in this troubled world and, God willing, bring this occultic world back to its senses and into the Church. -page 47

Where do I even start when it comes to writing about this book? This is a five-star read for me.

The Rise of the Occult opened my eyes in so many ways. I had a small amount of knowledge on the dangers of things like Reiki, Wicca, Ouija, fortune telling and many of the other things discussed. What I didn’t realize was how just the smallest participation opens a window in which if we aren’t careful, the diabolic can begin to take hold in our lives.

This book illustrates to the reader in a new way that we must be careful with what we read, watch, listen to, and participate in. If we are not careful, the smallest and seemingly innocent activity can leave us vulnerable. We must be careful, on guard, and vigilant.

The author, Charles Fraune, chose to include the stories of many people and their road to liberation from the occult. These stories impacted me heavily and I was amazed at not only what I didn’t know, but the battle of these brave individuals to not only find freedom, but to also continue fighting daily for their souls and others.

I highly recommend this book to everyone, but especially fellow Catholics. We need to be aware of what is out there working against use we need to be aware of how we can help others should we be called upon to do so. Finally, we need to know what to be praying for with respect to these things and the priests who wage battle daily to save souls.

Thank you to Slaying Dragons Press and the author, Charles Fraune, for the copy of this book. All views are my honest opinion.

It is a very good book, very instructive and I would recommend it in a heartbeat. I was a bit surprised that it was actually reflections on the occults based on snipets of testimonies, sprinkled everywhere in the book and, sometimes, I was a bit frustrated to only have quotes and not the entire story in all its details (but I do understand that it would not have been very practical and that the book would be far too long otherwise). Also, I thought that the criticism of the Church, warranted for some parts, was a bit too long. Still, a lot of the author's choices were really well made : the fact that the author did not linger on the darker details, and did not fall into sensationalism, the way some people were introduced and then disappeared but never completely, the way God and the Church were always present.

What I loved the most was when we had little reflections on the power and the love of God...It did give so much hope. And, actually, the simple facts that we had such a succession of glimpses into the life of souls who were lost and the Lord has found and saved, was really beautiful. Our Lord is truly The Good Sheperd.

Must read for these times.

Have just finished reading this do want to say a lot and a way to articulate but in a nutshell one cannot understate the importance of such a book in these times where a lot of people have gotten unknowingly or been lured under the guise of spirituality and loa stuff. This book is a great warning and also points one in the direction of what to do next, if they are there. This book is for a catholic perspective and provides reasons for it and why one should follow the Catholic tradition.

A wonderful read

Mr. Fraune follows up his first book with a more detailed look at the reality of the occult. While there is some repetition, he shares both the hope of conversion for occultist, as well as challenging Catholics to acknowledge the reality. Not just relying on church teaching and exorcists (as in his first book), here he interviewed those who were involved in various form of the occult.

Wow! What a phenomenal sequel this book was! Slaying Dragons II - The Rise of the Occult opens the reader up to the dangers and gravity of the occult. The occult is everywhere in society, you see it on every level, in the government, in the entertainment industry, and even the Church itself. The devil prowls about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, the occult is just that! We must stand guard and steadfast in the rich traditions of the Catholic Church I.e. the Traditional Latin Mass!

There is a lot of information and solid Catholic teaching. However, one has to ignore the parts that support MAGA cult ( I know) and the FOX News mentality. An example is demonizing vaccines in particular the " Covid Jab."
