Who says love can’t show up on your doorstep, completely unexpected?
Quincy
I have a plan, and it doesn’t include falling for the older, hot single dad who convinced me to be his short-term nanny.
So, I will leave my small town and my broken heart behind and go back to college.
Or so I told myself.
But now I’m starting to wonder if my plan has room for an unexpected happily ever after…
Knox
To say I was overwhelmed when I found a baby on my doorstep would be an understatement.
Quincy saved me when she stepped in to help.
The last thing I need is a no-strings fling with a twenty-something woman with her whole life ahead of her. I should walk away, no matter how much I want her.
But I don’t.
Now, I need to figure out how to let her go when the time comes. Preferably without breaking her heart. Or mine…
Unexpected , book 4 in the Henry Brothers series, is a light, age gap contemporary romance that can be read as a standalone. It has a little humor, some spicy times, and plenty of emotional, heartwarming moments. Download today and watch Quincy and Knox stumble heart first into their completely unexpected HEA .
Amy Knupp is a USA Today Best-Selling author of contemporary romance and a freelance copy editor. She loves words and grammar and meaty, engrossing stories with complex characters.
Amy lives in Wisconsin with her husband, and has two sons, four cats, and a box turtle. She graduated from the University of Kansas with degrees in French and journalism. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, breaking up cat fights, watching college hoops, and annoying her family by correcting their grammar.
This is the 4th and final book in Amy Knupp’s Henry Brothers series. While this can be enjoyed as a stand alone - because there's so many updates for couples from the previous books I think it’s best enjoyed after those, starting with Unraveled. Also, this review includes spoilers to earlier books.
My absolute favorite of the series. Not only does this have some of my favorite tropes/themes: age gap, nanny, small town, found family - but I adored how deeply Knupp allowed me to get to know these characters. Knox's big announcement at the end of Undone about being a previously unknown son of Henry patriarch, Simon, is huge. This begins with the fallout, good and bad, of that revelation. THEN poor Knox has a baby dropped off with nothing but a note claiming it's his.
Don't want to spoil it, but all the fun (well, for us as readers) of the completely unprepared and incompetence regarding all things baby is glorious. Enter 28yo Quincy who, despite being 14 years his junior, has years of childcare experience and innate connection with kids. I enjoyed how realistic and relatable living with a baby Juniper's age is. Balanced with the cuteness, parenting victories, and milestones, this is not a baby who conveniently disappears or never cries.
I love how Knupp weaves Knox & Quincy's romance throughout all this chaos. It makes for great pacing and a truly believable relationship. Evolving from "just physical with a time limit" to something so much more. Not only do they have to discover what they each really want in life but also how that includes the other. When they finally end up together for real - I cheered.
I love epilogues and there's two that serve as the perfect HEA for Knox & Quincy as well as wrapping up the entire series.
Narration: The adorable onesie on this glorious book baby is the perfect narration by Carly Robins and Ryan West. Gah! I cannot say enough wonderful things about both of their performances. West's delivery for Knox evolves with him - from that overwhelmed and scared new dad to competent then confident. Robins is absolutely adorable as Quincy. Finding that balance between young and still capable. West and Robins compliment each other perfectly. Loved listening.
While I own the ebook, I did receive an advance copy of the audiobook from Home Cooked Books and am leaving an honest review.
4th in the series and it stands alone quite well, but to get the full impact you should at least read book 3 because Knox appears heavily in that one and definitely sets the stage for the depth of reaction to his situation as we start this book.
When I started this one I hadn't read the blurb (I know, bad Janine, right?). So when I started and was looking as some of the material I was like "Single Dad? Maybe it's a typo, Knox doesn't have a child." Then I started the book and all things were made clear (also, I went and read the blurb, lol).
Knox has just come out to the Henry Clan as being one of them (at least half of him is) and if you've read book 3 (and it is given in the text of this one) you know he's been in Dragonfly Lake for several months before he drops this bombshell news. In a twist of fate that his half siblings (some of the brothers anyway) feel is full on karma, Knox's ex fiancé drops a little bundle of joy named Juniper in his lap and vanishes with only a note in explanation.
Quincy has an almost magical way with kids and immediately takes a shine to little miss Juniper and helps Knox figure out the immediate needs and he takes things a step further and begs her to be his live in nanny to care for the little one and teach him the ways of fatherhood.
As we all know, single dads and lovable nannies are a perfect match made in heaven... just not right away and not without a little drama. Add in some hilarious moments of "I'm glad it's not my kid anymore" glimpses of parenthood and I was in both stitches and tears through this book.
The Audiobook was performed by Ryan West and Carly Robins. They both did a great job with this one. The comedic timing, the emotional impact, the inner turmoil, it was all so well done. I absolutely adore when a book breaks me and causes a physical reaction. In this case I both cackled with laughter (I got some side eye from people around me) and teared up (both because my heart was so broken for Quincy at times and because the joy was so well earned).
I would love to visit Dragonfly Lake again and again.
I requested and was provided with an advance copy of the audiobook. These are my honest opinions.
Unexpected is the fourth book in the Henry series. Since we all know and love the characters in this series, we've already fallin for Nox, Quincy wasn't hard to like. I thought the first restaurant scene was so funny. This whole book is a series of oooo's and ahhh's, this is the perfect book for the end of a series. The narrators did an amazing job. Maybe Amy can do a Single Dad's of Dragonfly Bay series? Time to listen to the North Brothers series.
In Unexpected, book four in the Henry Brothers series, we finally get to see just what’s up with that Knox Breckenridge guy, the one who has been skulking around Dragonfly Lake since book one. He says he’s a writer who has fallen in love with the town and decided to make it his home. But he’s been keeping a big secret and when he reveals it, it’s quite the bombshell that drops on the Henry Family: he’s the biological son of Simon Henry, the family patriarch. Simon and Knox’s mother had a weekend together just over 42 years ago. Simon is stunned but realizes the timing works and is more than open to welcoming Knox as another son if that turns out to be true. The Henry “boys,” however, stay true to form in their reactions. Holden and Knox have been friends for a while and Holden thinks having a half-brother won’t be so bad. Seth needs to think it over, as usual, but will probably come around sooner rather than later. Cash – well, we all know Cash by now – he never has liked Knox and this just cements his anger, distrust, and suspicions. He wants to know what Knox is after, what Knox is trying to get from the Henrys.
What does Knox want? Simple. He wants a family. It was always just him and his mom. The identity of his father was only revealed to him in a letter his mother left when she died a few months ago. He just wants to see them, to get to know them, to wonder if his fervent hope to belong, to become one of them, is possible. It’s a lot for everybody involved.
And how ironic that as this little drama starts to play out Knox finds a surprise package in the back seat of his car: a 5-month-old baby girl with nothing but a note from Knox’s ex-girlfriend that says, “I can’t do this. She’s yours now.” Knox is as stunned as Simon was, and Cash doesn’t hesitate to ask, “How does it feel when it happens to you?”
From here on the story is delightful. Full of misunderstanding, misconceptions, mishaps. Knox knows absolutely nothing about babies and is terrified at the mistakes he might make, but little Juniper is growing on him and he begins to hope she really is his biological daughter and wonders what he’ll do if she’s not. Watching him navigate new fatherhood is fun and funny. What would he do without Quincy, the server at the Henry family restaurant who has agreed to be his nanny until she goes off to school in a few months. She practically raised her stepsiblings and loves children, especially this adorable little girl. And for Knox the question is – REALLY – what would he do without Quincy? Acting on the attraction he feels would be wrong in so many ways. She’s his employee, he’s not looking for instant family, and the biggest no-no in his mind: she’s 28 to his 42. His reactions, especially to being mistaken as her father, are priceless. But the attraction is real, on both sides, and doesn’t look like it’s going away any time soon.
Unexpected is another wonderful visit to Dragonfly Lake and more time well-spent with those Henrys and the rest of the folks in town. I’m hoping there is another brother or cousin or someone somewhere so this engrossing, satisfying series doesn’t have to end. The narration is perfect, as it has been for each book. Ryan West’s Knox is uncertain, passionate, conflicted, besotted and comes to life. Carly Robins is as amazing as ever; her portrayal of Quincy is believable and appealing in every way. Good pacing, emotions that feel like the real deal, a genuine pleasure to listen to both of these narrators.
I received a free audio copy of Unexpected from the author via Home Cooked Books. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait to see what’s next from author Amy Knupp. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.
Knox and Quincy are up in book 4 of Amy Knupp’s Henry Brothers series. And though the set up here includes some of my least favorite tropes (age gap- older man/younger woman; nanny/parent), the book ended up being a pleasant surprise to me. This is down to how Knupp handles those tropes and the characters she has created.
I already loved Knox from the previous book (definitely read that first to get a fuller view of Knox, as this is where Knupp sows some key character and plot seeds that blossom in this book); he even outshone the hero in that book for me and I loved his friendship and professional partnership with Ava. It was cool to see that relationship continue to grow. Plus he gets a single dad posse! They become another support network for him, along with the Henry clan; it was refreshing to see the male MC get as developed a support system as female MCs usually get. And now I want stories for single dad posse; it sounded like Knupp was laying some groundwork there.
Quincy is the female MC and she was a solid character. Part of the reason that the tired tropes worked here is because of the way Knupp developed her (and Knox). This is a heroine who knows her mind when it comes to her love-life (even if she’s still figuring the rest out). She takes charge, and is always clear about what she does and doesn’t want. I also appreciated that Knox struggled with the power dynamic and potential for an imbalance in their employer/nanny relationship. He was the one being hesitant to get involved as a result, which made it much more interesting to me. And though his reasons for pushing her away at the inevitable break-up-moment were a bit paternalistic, Quincy has no problem calling him out for that. The execution of the age gap was also helped by the fact that Quincy is closer to 30 than not (28), so it gave me less pause than had she been an early twentysomething getting together with a 42-year-old man.
This audiobook was fantastic. Carly Robins and Ryan West take this story to another level. There performances were definitely a major reason for my ultimate enjoyment of the story. West was a wonderful Knox. There are some many elements he handled so skillfully - from Knox’s interactions with Juniper, to his handling of his newfound connection to the Henry family, to his connection with Quincy - and he just made me love Knox all the more. And Carly Robins was equally great in bringing Quincy to life. Her performance was this wonderful blend of humor and confidence, vulnerability and strength. She just fit the character so well.
This one is an unreserved recommendation; it’s a unique approach to a tricky trope and a return to a world with some really great characters.
I received an ALC copy of the audiobook via Home Cooked Books. All opinions are my own.
“For so many years, I’d been searching for a place that felt like home. I finally found it just when I’d least expected it. It was here. This was it. Knox and Juniper were it for me.”
For me, this quote embodies the heart and spirit of this phenomenal romance. Finding your place, finding your family, finding the other half of your heart, and finding your forever home. Although written in the voice of our heroine, Quincy, this speaks equally to our hero Knox.
Knox came to Dragonfly Lake for one reason – to find his family. But before anything can really be resolved on that front, and before his new house even begins to feel like a home, something gets dropped off that requires a lifetime commitment from Knox – his baby daughter Juniper. Lucky for him, he's meeting his writing partner, Ava, at Henry’s Restaurant, which is where Quincy Yates works. She may be prone to wait-staff accidents, but she has the magic touch with babies, has a little time on her hands, and is the answer to Knox's prayers. He knows nothing about babies, has no supplies, and he has absolutely no idea where to begin.
Poor Knox. Rather than the duck that appears serene on the surface but is paddling for its life below the water, Knox is more like a chicken with its head cut off. His panic and confusion were quite entertaining, even as my heart went out to this self-assured, competent guy who's usually more like the cool, calm duck.
Quincy is a superwoman, quickly getting the situation in hand, helping Knox gain confidence in his parenting ability, and falling in love with the adorable baby and single dad somewhere along the way. That last part, however, is at odds with Quincy's plan to work on her teaching degree in Nashville once the summer ends.
Oh my heart y'all, this book is every reason I love reading romance. Complex, vulnerable characters who learn and grow, strong family dynamics with witty banter and deep, abiding love, a storyline that keeps me glued to the page reading late into the night, and a poignantly beautiful love story that grows into its own little family.
I laughed, I teared up, I may have yelled at characters a little, and I swooned my way through these pages. This sweet, steamy romance filled my heart to overflowing and left me with the biggest smile. If you’re looking for a read that will tickle your funny bone, make you blush, and leave your romantic heart ecstatically happy, look no farther. I have no doubt you'll love everything about this tender, heartwarming, extraordinary romance!
Fabulous Story & Narration🎧Charming & Heartwarming!
Unexpected Henry Brothers, Book By: Amy Knupp Narrated by: Ryan West, Carly Robbins
Amy Knupp pens another amazing novel set in her “Henry Brothers” series and I would like to say she saved the best for last but that would not be fair to the earlier books, which are just as amazing. Unexpected is Knox and Quincy’s story, and it delivers a few unexpected surprises. Knox, an author, has been staying in Dragonfly Lake and he became friends with Eva, who we met in the previous book, “Undone” where the two bonded and formed a writing partnership. Cash was not too keen on their friendship, but dealt with it. In this book, we learn the real reason Knox came to Dragonfly Lake and wow, it surprised all the Henrys. And if the fallout of that news was not enough, his ex left him with a surprise, a baby girl, Juniper, one he was not aware of. Knox, knowing nothing of caring for a baby, was in way over his head, and Quincy, a server at Henry’s Restaurant, comes to his rescue. Quincy is a natural with Juniper and Knox winds up hiring her to be her nanny, a live-in nanny. Quincy took a leave from her job at the restaurant to help Knox out, though she was leaving for college in three months to get her degree to become a teacher. I loved how everything played out in this book, the writing, plotting and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. It was great watching them getting to know each other, the chemistry between them was undeniable, despite their age difference, which bothered Knox more than it did Quincy. It was wonderful to catch up with all the Henrys again and see how their families continue to grow. Amy Knupp, thank you for another fabulously heartwarming and charming story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧And for the fabulous narration, Ryan West and Carly Robbins were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life. They understood the characters they were portraying, giving each a voice that suited that character completely and were believable in every role they played. West nailed it as Knox, grasping every aspect of his personality, and Robbins did the same for Quincy. Both were fabulous performing the roles of the secondary characters too. They set the perfect tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling every single one. It is a pleasure to listening to these entertaining storytellers take this already incredible story to another level. Thank you for another wonderful listen.
Unexpected is book four in the Henry Brother’s series and is the age gap, nanny, found family, small town romance of Knox and Quincy. Unexpected begins with the fallout of Knox’s announcement at the end of Undone about him being the unknown son of the head of the Henry clan Simon. And just when Knox thinks the sh!t can’t hit the fan anymore, a baby is dropped off with a note claiming she is his and that the mother isn’t ready to be a parent. Poor Knox has no idea how to look after a baby and no clue what a baby needs so calls for reinforcements in the shape of his writing partner and soon to be sister-in-law Ava and she recruits Quincy who works at Henry’s and is known for being great with children. Quincy is fourteen years his junior at twenty-eight years old, but with years of childcare experience she is the perfect person to not only help with Juniper but also assist Knox as he adapts to his new role as a father and finds the perfect work/life balance. Quincy moves in to care for Juniper and as she and Knox begin to grow close, they put a time limit on their “relationship” to protect themselves, only the more time that passes the less either wants it to end. Will Knox and Quincy come to the realisation they want to extend their arrangement to something permanent before one of them gets hurt? The magnificent Carly Robins and Ryan West make an incredible duo on this audiobook. Ms Robin’s performance as the sweet, kind, cheery Quincy who is amazing with kids, but is a terrible waitress was marvellous. Carly’s beautifully soft, melodious voice was perfect for out sugary sweet heroine. Mr West’s portrayal of keen writer Know, they guy who, when he’s down, the hits just keep on coming until his girls give him a purpose was sublime. Ryan’s strong, resonant voice was perfect to showcase the new father finding his feet. Overall, I loved this audiobook. Amy Knupp’s Henry Brother’s series is one of my favourite small town romance series and Unexpected is a wonderful addition. If you love a good age gap, nanny, found family, small town romance with heaps of incredible side characters and is deliciously steamy, then this is the audiobook for you.
I’m so glad I discovered this series because I have loved each one so much. “Unexpected” is a heartfelt, steamy and oh so sweet single dad small town romance that I couldn’t stop listening to once I started.
After the truthbomb that Knox dropped in the last book, he’s finally finding his way in Dragonfly Bay. The family knows who he is and the weight of carrying it around has somewhat been lifted off his shoulders. But when he finds a surprise left in his car, an infant named Juniper, he’s suddenly a single Dad. Panic sets in and he races to his half brother’s restaurant where the clumsy but kind Quincy is there to save the day. Quincy loves kids and is planning to go back to school to be a teacher. She offers to help by being Juniper’s nanny and help Knox in a crash course of learning how to raise a child.
I loved that Knox finally got his story and it has easily become my favorite of the series. Knox is a confident man when it comes to his career but was thrown for a real loop finding out about his Dad, his half siblings and then literally becoming a single Dad overnight. He was scared at first but he fell into the role so seamlessly, he was meant to be Juniper’s dad. And I loved Quincy right from the beginning. She was so relatable in figuring out her career later in life. She’s so sweet, genuine and was an instant comfort for Juniper and Knox. Knox and Quincy’s relationship developed so naturally and I loved them together. There is about a 12 year age gap and it was just perfect for them. Knox struggled with it some but despite the difference, they were both at the same place in life. I loved having lots of scenes with the Henry family. The ending was so sweet and the perfect way to wrap their book.
Carly Robin and Ryan West were so perfect as Quincy and Knox. Carly brought all of the sweetness and tenderness that Quincy was when it came to Knox and Juniper. Ryan was so passionate narrating Knox and all of the vulnerabilities he went through after finding his family and his new daughter.
In book 3, Undone, Knox Breckenridge stole the spotlight at the very last minute from Cash and Ava. Book 4, Unexpected, is his story. Knox had quietly been living in Dragonfly Lake for months getting to know the area and the people. He had a secret though: he was the older, half brother, to the Henry siblings. While his new family was still coming to terms with that information, Knox got the surprise of his life when an infant was left in his car with a note saying she was his baby. So yeah, that was chapter 1.
Over the course of the book, we go on a journey with Knox as he navigates his new found family and becomes a parent. He has no clue what to do with a baby, but luckily meets Quincy who has lots of experience with her younger siblings. He convinces her to be a live in nanny as he figures it all out. Despite the age gap (YUM), Knox and Quincy develop feelings for each other and act on them (MORE YUM).
I loved seeing how Knox slowly became accepted one by one from his new family while at the same time falling in love with his daughter and seeing him grow as a parent. I did feel like the relationship with Quincy felt forced at first, but I ended up really enjoying them as a couple. I had a hard time keeping up with the family get togethers since they included all the North siblings from a series I wasn't familiar with. Out of all the books, that this was the only time I felt lost. Overall, the story was really sweet and charming.
Ryan West is a new to me narrator and he was fantastic! I really felt like he fit the part of Knox with the way he portrayed the character. Carly Robbins was great as Quincy, capturing her emotions as she fell in love with Knox and baby Juniper. They were a great pair to bring Knox, Quincy and all the other characters to life.
I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request, and I voluntarily provided this review.
What I’m Starry-Eyed Over: 🤩 The narrators are perfect! Their gorgeous voices fit the characters and they bring all the feels. 🤩 Carly Robins makes a wonderful Quincy—extra sweet, tender-loving, and the cutest sassy possible. 🤩 Ryan West makes a brilliant Knox—deep, thoughtful, loving and devoted. 🤩 The story (double secret baby) is so captivating and beautiful—true admiration, love, connection, and family. 🤩 The sweetest forced proximity. 🤩 Such fabulous physical and sexual attraction. 🤩 Secret pining. 🤩 “You . . . are a very lucky girl . . . You got a good guy for a daddy.” So much heart-warming love and longing. 🤩 It’s just so stinkin’ adorable when Knox and Quincy talk to Juniper. And, I love June Bug as a child’s term of endearment. 🤩 “It’s not right for a 42-year-old guy to boink his nanny.” Ha! 🤣 So cute and funny. 🤩 The gorgeous details when they finally kiss/touch. 🤩 When protective Knox comes to the rescue. 🤩 There is a break-up, but it’s so believable and loving. 🤩 It works as a standalone, but there’s a little history with Knox in the previous book—Undone. It’s pretty much explained to the reader in this one, though. 🤩 I love small-town Dragonfly Lake and recommend the whole series if you do like a series in order. My reviews are up all the places. 🤩 Big family feels at holiday times.
What I’m Wishing/Dizzy About: 💫 I know I’m greedy, but I wish we would have gotten a steamy scene after the time apart, maybe even two because practice makes perfect.
I really enjoyed this age gap romance. Knox came to Dragonfly Lake hoping to find the family he never had. What he didn't expect was a surprise baby girl making his own family. Knox was just finding a new life when an ex left him with his baby girl, Juniper, that he never knew about. He doesn't know the first thing about how to take care of her. Quincy was working at the restaurant and stepped in to help soothe the crying Juniper. Quincy grew up helping to take care of the kids in her family. She loves babies and young children, and plans to go back to school to be a teacher. She is so good with Juniper, Knox hires her to help him take care of Juniper for the next few months. Quincy is a perfect fit for Knox and Juniper, and they soon find their rhythm. But as they get to know each other, feelings grow, including the attraction between Knox and Quincy. They try to fight it, but are helpless to ignore their desires. When it gets close to Quincy leaving for school, decisions start to change, and Knox pushes her away, not wanting to stand in the way of her future. Will they be strong enough to fight for each other or will Quincy leave, breaking all their hearts? I loved this sweet, heartfelt and steamy romance. Knox and Quincy were so perfect for each other, and I loved the sweet little family they were making together. I also loved the genuine way the Henry family grew to bond with Knox and Juniper. Carly Robin and Ryan West brought these characters and story to life beautifully. They magnified the doubt, fear, heartache, joy, and passion of this story and I was totally lost in this world. This romance melted my heart instantly with it's fabulous characters, heartfelt emotions and beautiful storyline. I was completely captivated and couldn't put it down!
I loved Knox and Quincy’s story in Unexpected by Amy Knupp, book four in her Henry Brothers series, is a beautiful, heartwarming story with a reminder that age is only a number and the importance of family. A few months ago after his mother’s death and his discovery of who was his father, writer Knox Breckenridge moved Dragonfly Lakes to reach out to the Henry family. When he finally confesses the true reason of being in town, some were not sure what to make of it. The next day, off to meet his writing partner at Henry’s restaurant, Knox finds a five-month baby in his car, with a note telling him he’s the father of little Juniper. Clueless about babies, a waitress at the Henry restaurant comes to his aid and accepts the job as the baby’s nanny. The temporary job would allow Quincy Yates to earn some money before she finally goes back to college to get her teaching degree. The two of them never expect romantic feelings to develop; yet the chemistry between them not only sizzles, it’s off the charts sizzling. Despite the age gap between them, with Knox being 42 while Quincy is only 28 they fit together and complemented one another, like puzzle pieces. Although Quincy believes going to college is what she truly wants; in the end, she and Knox realize that love has no boundaries or limitations. That plans can change if it means finding the person that gets you.
Ms. Knupp wrote a story that is all about family: family by birth, family by marriage or family by adoption, it doesn't make a difference to a loving heart. They will find a way and put in the work to make it work. I highly recommend Unexpected to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
While this is a part of a series (and the prior characters make multiple appearances), you don't have to read them to fully understand and enjoy this delightful story. I would recommend it though as the family dynamics of the Henry Brothers and their father really will make for a more enjoyable read.
I don't read nanny stories typically as they usually have billionaires in them. Not here! Nope here is Knox a 42 year old single man who finds a baby in the front seat of his car! A note from his ex-girlfriend reveals that the baby is his and she is NOT up for being a mother! Who does the clueless man recruits to help look after his baby girl, a klutzy waitress at his step-brothers' restaurant!
Now Quincy is a sweet 28 year old. She recently broke up from a long-term relationship. She finally has made plans to go to college to become an elementary school teacher. Being a waitress who is prone to break plates, spill coffee and drop things, it was easy to take care of the infant. She helped to take care of her younger half siblings.
Can these two work together for a few months before Quincy leaves for college. Can Quincy get Knox comfortable with the baby. Is the baby really his? Can these two ignore the sparks that fly between them when they touch? Is the 14 year age gap really that bad?
This is told in a dual POV format. Getting that glimpse into both of the main characters' thoughts really help me to better understand and connect to both of the characters. It really makes for a more enjoyable read for me.
This is a sexy story but not too much in the way of details but just a word of warning there.
“I got so lost in her that I stopped worrying about anything. I couldn’t think straight even if I wanted to, and I sure as hell didn’t want to.”
Oooh, this was my second book by Amy Knupp and I loved it! This small-town, big-family series is delightful and utterly heartwarming. “The only easy day was yesterday.” True for the Navy Seals and true for parenthood. Knox grew up an only child of a single mom and has felt an ache of loneliness since she passed. But as they say, when it rains, it pours and Knox is suddenly flooded with community from all sides. A family he’s never known, a baby he didn’t know about, and a group of single dad friends happy to lend an ear have Knox’s heart full-to-bursting. Enter the beguiling waitress at his family’s restaurant who is phenomenal with kids and instantly bonds with his daughter, Juniper. I loved Quincy’s vivacious personality; she balances Knox’s overwhelmed, broody, exhausted new-parent character perfectly. Their age difference only enhances their sizzling chemistry, and their relationship development is pure romantic charm. I loved getting to know the Henry family better. If you’re looking for a sweet & spicy small-town romance, you need Unexpected on your TBL!
Ryan West and Carly Robins were the perfect casting choices for Knox & Quincy. Ryan’s whiskey-smooth, deep and sultry timber was fantastic for Knox. Carly embodied the effervescent, kind hearted Quincy with a delightful performance. Carly’s unique delivery and lighthearted style brought Quincy’s journey to life superbly. Carly and Knox gave marvelous performances to bring Amy’s characters and wonderful love story off the page.
🎧Audiobook ALC Review🎧 🎤 Narrated by Ryan West & Carly Robins
Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
This is the 4th book in the Henry Brothers series but can be read or listened to as a stand-alone and as someone who hasn’t read/listened to the first 3 I can assure you it’s still worth it.
Now let’s talk about unexpected, this is definitely the perfect title for this book. I’m not big on the pregnancy/baby trope, however this wasn’t with the FMC unexpectedly getting pregnant. No, this was the MMC having a baby dropped in his lap, a baby he had no clue he even had. For me, that made all the difference with this book. Throw in the age gap with the nanny and I’m so in!!
This book had everything you would expect from a small town romance too. I love how everyone knows everyone’s business, I mean they even had their own gossip app called “The Tattler”. My family comes from a small town so I can 100% relate to that. There was some laugh out loud parts as well, like at the diner when Knox has absolutely no idea what to with a baby … I won’t go into detail as I don’t like to give spoilers but I for sure had a good laugh at Knox’s expense.
The story proceeded at a good speed with Knox meeting Quincy at the diner, who knows how to care for kids curtesy to having younger siblings and looking after them. Knox inevitably hirers her to be his live in nanny and their relationship blooms from there. Only she’s going to collage soon and he’s way too old (Knox 42 & Quincy 28) … it could never work, right??
I enjoyed both narrators of this book and think they complimented each other well. I was really surprised to find out that Carly Robins also goes by CJ Bloom who’s a favourite narrator of mine (and don’t worry she’s open about narrating under both names so I’m not letting any secrets out). It was my first Ryan West book and I’ve already gone and looked to see what else he’s done, so yes I enjoyed his narration and will be listening to more by him 😉
I really enjoyed this single dad/nanny/age-gap romance. Carly Robins and Ryan West did such a wonderful job of bringing Quincy and Knox's story to life. I don't think there could have been a better narrator duo for this story.
Quincy finally has a plan...she is going to become a teacher. But she has to go back to school at 28 years old, which is a little daunting for her. Currently she is working as a waitress but this is the last job she should have because clumsy is her middle name. She never expects to take a job helping out Knox...and the baby that was just left at his home.
Knox just discovered a baby in his truck...a baby he has no idea about. He doesn't know the first thing about caring for another person, especially a baby. But here he is about to learn something new. He has just told the people that were his friends that he is also a long lost member of their family. A secret his mother kept until after she was gone. While some of the Henry family are hesitant to open their arms to him, others have no problem. While at their restaurant, he introduces them to the baby that was left in his truck and this is where Quincy is his saving grace.
I loved seeing these two bond and grow over the connection with his daughter. Quincy was there to help him for a few months until she was supposed to go to college. But sometimes the Unexpected happens in more ways than one, and you get way more than you ever bargained for. Knox was worried that Quincy was giving up her dreams for him and Juniper, when they were her dreams all along.
This was my first book by Amy but I would love to listen to or read the other books in this series.
What a page turner! Imagine a baby showing up on your doorstep suddenly. That’s what happens to Knox. Juniper is just five months. This is after he lets out some other news to the Henry’s. What could that be and how will this news possibly change his life? Becoming a single dad definitely won’t be easy, but Knox is prepared to give it a go. Quincy is a waitress but going to school in just a few months to be a teacher. She went through quite a bad breakup so finding anyone else isn’t quite on her radar right now. When Knox drops by the restaurant one day with Juniper, he’s told Quincy babysits. Maybe she would like to be his nanny. Well, from there it seems Knox tries to keep Quincy at arms lengths-she’s going to school in a few months and she’s quite a bit younger than him. He doesn’t want to get attached to her. The attraction is definitely there though between the two. Quincy is excellent with the baby. It soon becomes apparent that she may be having feelings for Knox. What will happen if she reveals these feelings to Knox? How will he react? Will he be able to gain full custody of Juniper? Will his relationship with the Henry’s especially Cash, who is on the fence at first about him grow? Get ready for an epic ending you won’t want to miss! I even shed a few tears! Where they tears of joy or sadness? Read on to find out. Amy Knupp definitely blew it out of the park with this amazing story in Dragonfly Lake!
Amy Knupp has done it again! She has given her readers and listeners another phenomenal small town romance in her "Henry Brothers" series. Unexpected is the single daddy and nanny romance between Knox and Quincy. Get ready for a heartwarming, laugh inducing story that will simultaneously want to pull your hair out.
Knox just had his world turned up side in more ways than one. He just found out that he is the half-sibling of the Henry siblings. Now, he has had an even bigger bomb dropped on him. He is the father to an infant daughter. Like a fish out of water, he has no idea what to do, but his friend Quincy steps in to save the day. She agrees to be his nanny until she goes back to school. As time moves on, they begin a no-strings relationship, but will they be able to put things to an end at the end of the summer without leaving the other with a broken heart?
This audiobook is narrated by Carly Robins and Ryan West. Right off the bat, I want more of these two narrators together. I love Carly Robins, and she did an amazing job bringing Quincy to life. She was absolutely perfect for this character and her personality. I am still fairly new to actor Ryan West, and just as quickly as Knox fell in love with his daughter, I fell in love with West's narration. I can't wait to hear more from him.
How can you not love Amy Knupp’s writing and especially her Henry Brothers series?! They’re seriously incredible! I’m totally hooked and now I have to go and read her entire back catalogue - I’ve already purchased the North series from Chirp!!
This book is so amazing - I’ve loved the entire series but book 4 about the secret oldest Henry son who appeared out of nowhere… chefs kiss! What a way to end it all, especially when he gets a similar surprise with a baby left in his car when he turns his back. And a paternity test proves that the baby is his, while another proves he is indeed a long-lost Henry son.
Knox had shown up in town in an earlier book but only revealed his true identity at the end of book 3, so when the baby suddenly appears with only a note from his very unstable ex girlfriend from a year ago, his world is turned upside down. A server at Henry’s Restaurant, Quincy, offers advice because she has much younger half-siblings she’s used to caring for… and Knox ends up hiring her as his nanny. His much younger nanny who he is intensely attracted to…
Ryan West and Carly Robins were narrators, and did a completely perfect job as Knox and Quincy. These are two voices that are showing up on more and more titles lately and I’m always excited to see them attached to a project. I love them! They are extremely talented and I always love their performances. Bravo to both!
This book was brilliant and I completely and totally recommend it to everyone - Knupp is such a talented storyteller and the audio is perfection. Go grab your copy now!
I received an advance listen copy from Home Cooked Books PR and this is my honest feedback.
🎧Audio Review🎧 Narrated by Carly Robins and Ryan West 4.5 ⭐️ Unexpected is book 4 in the Dragonfly Lake series. We’ve gotten to know Knox in the previous book and I was really hoping he’s be next up for a romance. Single dad tropes have always been a soft for me and this romance doesn’t disappoint. Knox is suddenly thrown into fatherhood when a baby is left on his doorstep. Not having a clue what to do he hires Quincy as a nanny. Their attraction is instant and trying to keep their hands off each other is becoming impossible. Throw in a 14-year age gap and a career in teaching which Quincy wants to pursue and the tension grew.
Ryan West’s narration was wonderful. I LOVED it! He has such a unique quality to his voice that brings humor, a bit of sarcasm with a punch of attitude. He’s one of those easy lessons that’s a no-brainer for me. Carly Robins, as always, one of my favorite narrators, does an amazing job. She has a mix of strength and vulnerability that is perfect for Quinn. These two together are an ideal narration match.
The epilogue is filled with so many opportunities for a next book series and I’m excited to see where that leads
I was given a free copy of the audio in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own
Knox was on his way out, but when he got to his car he realized he forget his computer. Till he got it and made it back out to his car, he found a car seat sitting in his seat. He thought it was a prank with a doll but when it moved, he freaked out. There was a note in the seat telling him it was his baby, and she couldn’t handle being a mom. He went to his friends and there he found Quincy working as a waitress who stepped in to ask about baby Juniper. Quincy, who practically raised her three younger half-siblings, offered to help him with what he needed to get started. She agreed to be his temporary nanny until January when she had decided to go back to college. He told her that her boss would hold her job for her. By then, he should have control of the situation and know if she was truly his. But by the time the results came back, he wouldn’t have let Juniper go into the system as she had already captured his heart. This story had some really funny moments. Quincy is a very open person who started to care for Knox when she found how caring of a man he was. The problem between the two of them was their age. He wanted her to enjoy her young age of 28 while he was in his early 40s. This was a heartwarming story that I totally enjoyed.
Unexpected, the fourth book in The Henry Brothers series by Amy Knupp, was such a delight to listen to. It is well written, with lots of emotion and heart, and beautifully narrated. I thoroughly enjoyed this return to Dragonfly Lake and the Henry family.
Knox has a connection to the Henry family that comes out of left field, and he has a lot to deal with when it comes to trying to fit in and make connections. Add to that the baby that he didn't know about that gets left in his car, and you can say that Knox has a lot of challenges to try to grapple with in a short amount of time. Enter Quincy, who takes on the nanny job to help Knox with his little bundle of joy.
Quincy and Knox are a perfect pair, despite Knox's concerns about their age gap. The gap is not that big, and when push comes to shove, they really are just so good together in many ways. This is a perfect small-town romance with a little bit of drama, but not a lot of angst.
Ryan West and Carly Robins narrate this one, and they are definitely the right cast for the job. Ryan West captures Knox's fish-out-of-water feelings and his vulnerability as he deals with everything thrown his way. Carly, as Quincy, is the perfect temporary nanny that is looking to find her forever and figure out her life plans.
A few months ago after his mother’s death and his discovery of who his father was , writer Knox Breckenridge moved Dragonfly Lakes to reach out to the Henry family. When he finally confess the true reason of being in town, some were not sure what to make of it. In the midst of it all, a child is left in his car with a note telling him he’s the father. Clueless on what to do, a waitress at the Henry restaurant comes to his aid and accepts the job as the baby’s nanny. The temporary job would allow Quincy to earn some money before she finally goes back to college. What neither Knox , a 42 year old new dad, nor Quincy, a 28 year old ever expected was the feelings that developed. While one feels too old for a 28 year old, the other believes going to college is what she wants. In the end , will they realize that love has no boundaries or limitations? That plans can change if it means finding the person that gets you? This was a lovely addition to the Henry Brothers series and a beautiful way to tie up this much loved series. I was entrust a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Knox has just dropped the news of his existence to the family he recently discovered he was a part of and as he's trying to adjust to that he finds a baby left in his SUV with a note that she's his. He has no clue how to even hold a baby let alone care for one 24/7. Quincy is immediately drawn to the infant and comforts her, which then prompts Knox to seek her help in caring for the baby and offers her a job as a temporary nanny. The plan is just until January, Quincy has life plans which include going to school to become a teacher. By the time that happens, Knox should know how to care for Juniper, or have a plan for a sitter so he can work during the day and care for her himself at night. The attraction between Knox and Qunicy is strong, but is it stronger than Knox's belief that he's not right for her or her plan to leave an attend college? This is the 4th book in the series, and I have not read the ones that came before it. I had a bit of trouble keeping everyone straight, but it didn't impact my enjoyment of the story. This is my first book by Ms. Knupp but it won't be my last! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This was my first Amy Knupp book but it definitely won’t be my last! This is the 4th and final book of this series and after reading/listening to this one, I’m definitely going to have to go back and listen to the rest of the series now!
I thoroughly enjoyed this single dad, nanny, age-gap romance. I loved seeing Knox and Quincy bond and grow over the connection with his daughter. Quincy was just there to help him for a few months until she was supposed to go to college. But then the unexpected happens, and you get way more than you ever bargained for. Knox was worried that Quincy was giving up her dreams for him and Juniper, only to find out that they were her dream all along.
I felt that Ryan West and Carly Robins were the perfect choices for Knox and Quincy. They compliment each other perfectly and I felt the tone of their voices were spot on for this age gap. Robins was a bit more high-pitched and had that young excited tone, while West’s voice was deep, masculine, and had a tone that came through and it was evident that he was older. I think it all aided perfectly in bringing this book to life!
Book 4 in Knupp's The Henry Brothers series. Another wonderful addition to this series and while it can be read / listened as a standalone the books by Knupp and this series in particular are so wonderful and the characters are repeated so you'll get updates on them as the series progresses. That said, this is Knox and Quincy’s story and is just fantastic! Knupp delivers a well written and perfectly narrated romance read. Dual narration by Carly Robin and Ryan West brought these characters to life. I love Knox's character, he's so strong and steady but finds himself reeling with some unexpected surprises! Quincy was just as amazing but in a different way, comforting and genuine I loved her character too. A heartwarming storyline with some twists and turns. The sweet and steamy romance was so well balanced. Overall, this was just perfection! Definitely a read/listen I would highly recommend!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review. *this review is based on the audio version of this book.
Off to meet his writing partner at the restaurant, Knox unexpectedly finds a five-month baby in his car. Clueless about babies, he is hoping his friends can help. Quincy is a clumsy waitress, but is a natural with children. After witnessing her care for his daughter, he asks her to be her nanny. Quincy is happy to help temporarily, but she is enrolled to start college after the holidays. At 28, Quincy finally has plans for her future. Both of them are attracted to each other from the beginning. Knox feels like it's wrong for them to get involved since he is her boss and older than her. I received a free copy of this ebook from the author. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. I love every book that I have read by Amy Knupp. I love how her characters pull me into the story right from the very beginning. I also love how characters from previous books and series will pop into the story, but each book can also be enjoyed as a standalone. I also love how sweet Knox and Quincy are with his daughter June.
This story is all about family. Family by birth, family by marriage or family by adoption, it doesn't make a difference to a loving heart. They will find a way and put in the work to make it work.
In the right place, at the right time, with the necessary skillset, Knox and Quincy bonded over the baby daughter he had no idea even existed. As a only child, single adult, Knox hadn't the faintest idea how to care for a baby. When Quincy steps up to rescue the infant from the clueless adults, she accepts Knox's job offer to be his baby's nanny.
Over diaper changes, late night feedings and strained veggies, Knox and Quincy talk about fanilies and the problems they each have with their own families. And the attraction between exerts a pull of its own.
I received an ARC copy of this story from the author via BookFunnel and voluntarily chose to share my review.
Quincy Yates knew she wasn’t the best waitress at Henry’s Restaurant but she did her best while she waited to go back to college and get her teaching degree. But she knew she had to help newcomer Knox Breckenridge when his ex-girlfriend left their daughter that he didn’t know about with him as his nanny because he really needed help.
Knox Breckenridge had come to Dragonfly Lake to get to hopefully get to know his father Simon Henry but he hadn’t planned to move there permanently until he found out he was a father to a little girl named Juniper when his ex-girlfriend left her because she couldn’t handle being a mother any longer.
The main theme of any Amy Knupp book is family and the different ways you can make a family one especially when Knox Breckenridge finds out he’s a father.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
