A good friend of mine gave me a nice Marine patterned camouflaged journal for Christmas just before the Iraq war began. Since then, I have packed that journal with me on every deployment and safeguarded it like I would my rifle. This journal chronicles my experiences in the Marine Corps while deployed in support of the Global War on Terrorism from 2003 to 2006. I have changed nothing except some grammatical errors. The writing and syntax are as it was written. I wrote this for my family and my children and their children - so that no one will be left wondering what I did during the war. The other reason for publishing this journal was to showcase my love for photography. Sure, there are lots of gratuitous photos of me in cool war poses, but I also tried to include some of my best photographs, and also a few photos that capture the moment, whether blurry, untouched or downright mundane. They are real.
