I could hardly believe I had let my girlfriends convince me to join them for the weekend at the Bear Creek Lodge—the site of the Bradley Massacre. Eight years ago, some crazy guy gunned down six hikers in the woods near the lodge before a forest ranger shot and killed him. And now the place has become a playground for urban legends.
My girlfriends had thought it would be fun to stay at the lodge on the anniversary of the massacre, sharing ghost stories and trying to give each other nightmares. And now, here I was, stranded and alone in an allegedly accursed forest. Just my luck.
It had some potential. I would have liked to see it fleshed out a little more and then really seen what the potential could produce. For a short tale, it was gripping and held my interest. I think it was worth the read.
The author is an entertaining writer who knows the art of her craft, but this story is way too short to be completely enjoyable. The story would have been far more entertaining adding additional atmosphere and activity leading up to the climax. The Dues ex Machina ending also leaves the reader feeling rather cheated.
Regardless, I do believe the author would shine within longer works where she can flesh out her story with details and more character description. I do look forward to reading her other stories.
I really enjoyed this! The writing was good & the main character had a strong voice/personality. It really packed a punch for how short it was. :D I'd love to see a sequel to this, Maybe as a full novel? Maybe someday!
"Enchanted Forest of Horror" is a short story that is somewhat predictable but unsettling nonetheless. It is definitely worthy of a B-movie adaptation. There's not really much to it, but it's short, readable, and to the point.
Usually, I expect the ending of a short horror story to stick with me. This one, not so much. The ending is pretty good, mind you. And the actual way the ghost came up in the story caught me off guard. Good enough to earn 5 stars in my opinion at least
Remnants of Scream and I know What You Did Last Summer in this fun, spooky read. A great short to take camping. Pretty well written with great suspense.
