Devon just needed a job. When he took a temporary gig as a lighting assistant for an indie film production, little did he know he'd get to see hunky movie star Stephen in the altogether. But when Stephen needs a little specialized help that only Devon can provide, he is more than happy to lend a helping hand...
Jack Greene loathes author bios, thinking they ruin the mystery. But if you must, picture a handsome twenty-something insomniac: junior partner in a law firm by day, guitarist in a punk band by night. He roams the streets on his Ducati when he can't sleep, gathering material for his books, and watches the sun come up over West Hollywood as he types away at his laptop. Peace only comes when he writes the words "the end".
Jack writes about men who fuck, and love, other men. Men who, like all men, sometimes don't behave like they should.
Stephan is playing a new role for this indie film, a man discovering his sexuality. Unfortunately he is having trouble kissing his co-star. Devon got the lighting assistant job as a temp, but he is very glad he did, Stephan is hunky and all of a sudden he needs Devon's help getting into his role. :) It's a light, quick read, with a HFN ending.
This is only a short story but I think it has, not only a good plot, but also a good characters development, or at least as much as you could achieve in 25 pages.
Devon is a young “modern” boy in West Hollywood. 22 years old and without a steady job, he is not actually worried, since he knows that, sooner or later he will find his real path in life. Devon is also gay, and like for his lack of career prospective, also being gay is not an issue; he is not living in a gay bubble, meaning that he has friends in and out the LGBT community, but when you see him, you can tell Devon is gay, it’s who he is, and he is not ashamed of that. So when the hot star of the indie movie for which Devon is doing temp work as technician asks him to be his teacher for gay “kissing” (since the straight star has to kiss a man on the screen), Devon is more than willing; no thoughts of “this is a closet gay man I should out him”, or “poor me I’m so in love with this man and nothing could happen”, is passing his mind. Devon likes Stephen and Stephen is a good guy, and he is treating Devon with respect and like a true gentlemen… of course Devon will let Stephen know that he can be a little less gentlemanly and having his wicked ways with him, Devon is again, more than willing.
I like the approach of the author to the situation; Stephen is probably gay, but he is working in a field where it’s risky for him to come out, at least at this moment in his career when he is average famous but he is still not a 20 million star. Stephen is not presented like a negative character, or weak or without courage, and I also like that Devon understands the situation and is not behaving like if Stephen is betraying him since he doesn’t want to gamble on his own career.
Imagine the sexiest actor in the world looking at you. Now imagine him making a move. Excited? Intrigued? Then you need to read, Lights, Camera....
Jack Greene writes white hot stories and when I see a new one out, well, I have to nab it. I'm glad I grabbed this story. Sure, it's short, but that's part of the beauty. It's quick and hot. The writing zipped along at a great clip and kept me right in my seat. I had to know what would happen next. Had to. The book tops out at twenty-five pages and it does go rather fast. If I had my druthers, I might slow it down just a tad to see more development between the characters, but for a hot read on a chilly night, this book delivers.
This is told from Devon's point of view. I loved seeing what was rolling around in his head. Although he started out as not my favorite character, I quickly came to love him. He's honest and puts his heart on the line. I loved when he ogled Stephen. I felt like I was right there with him.
Stephen is every reader's version of the perfect man. He's an actor and he's sexy to boot. I loved that even though he's a professional, I got to see a side of him that was part clumsy, part scared, and totally honest. His forthrightness really made the story shine.
If you want a book that's got equal parts heat and heart, you need to read Lights, Camera.... It's a fun read.
I am discovering that I really, really enjoy a Jack Greene story at the end of a hard day. Though I love angst, sometimes I want a fun, quick read that doesn't play on my emotions, just entertains me, and doesn't take itself too seriously.
Devon is the kind of guy who leaves you shaking your head (with both amusement and at his audacity), but that you can't help liking. A bit of a slacker, he's shameless and unapologetic. And he's fine with that. This story has a bit of a fairy tale quality, with Devon as an unlikely Cinderfella. He plays it well.
Then there's the prince on his trusty steed, or rather, in a shiny black sportscar. Stephen's really not that shocked about his attraction to Devon, so I'm thinking this isn't really gay for you, but more like a confirmation of what he already knew. Or even a strategicaly played pick up when he meets someone he's got to have. And great googly mooglies! The sex scene sizzles!
Lights, Camera... is a feel good little read that left me with a smile on my face, and Jack Greene with a new fan.
I had no idea what to expect - had never read a Jack Greene story before - although I do have two more on my TBR pile. I really liked it! I found Devon so refreshing - a young guy who is not anxiety-ridden. He's really a go with the flow type. And then he takes a temp job on a movie set and his life changes! He finds he's good at something and he meets Stephen the gorgeous star of the movie who is having trouble with his kissing scenes with another guy. Somehow he seems to find his groove with Devon. Very sweet story without being sappy. I'm gonna go check out my TBR pile now!
A sexy quicky! Devon gets a job as an assistant on a film set. Sees studly leading man, Stephen, in nothing but a cock sock. Likes what he sees. Stephen needs some help getting into character. Devon's more than happy to help. Bingo! Happy people everywhere
