Cover? STUNNING. Story? Cozy and sweet read! Nice book one to a series and I will definitely read the next. The world building and even how descriptive the author is about the characters was so refreshing!

I received this ARC for an honest review, all thoughts/opinions above are my own!

I'd backed this Kickstarter because I was drawn to the premise and the promise that it's a cozy read. Unfortunately, I struggled to finish due to the fact that nothing came across as specifically charming or delightful for me to keep up my interest. It could have been me but it was overall underwhelming.

There's nothing came up that I hated or specifically disliked, nor anything that I specifically liked. It's more of take it or leave it read for me.

I love the cover. I DO like the concept of plant magic and apothecaries. Perhaps I might reread this in the future (as I own the hardcopy) and see if it improves (aka if it's just me).

Jayce Keenstone is a apothecary, tasked with healing the city population of a deadly plague. When one of her patients has a sudden miraculous recovery - and then death - from a remedy provided by a mysterious source, Jayce is determined to find out who is behind it, and how to stop them. As she seeks out the monastic libraries she falls in with a fellow researcher, Sav Alighieri, and learns to harness her own plant magic. But will she come into her powers and find what shes looking for before it's too late?

This was a fun fantasy adventure, with hints of a much broader story - Jayce's history with the Plague King, and the fate of her brother - wound through the more immediate tale of Jayce and Sav's research.

Jayce is a woman with PTSD - and yet remains a bold, trusting character. Her plant magic is interesting - a mental connection to the plants - which aids her in her task. Sav, on the other hand, seems to have ulterior motives and is a too-good-to-be-true character. The antagonist, Dray, is an unpleasant character from the outset. There is romance, of course, but contained to lingering gazes and chivalrous behavior. There is humor, drama, intrigue, wild magic, breaking into a library, stubborn donkeys, and much, much more. The world building was done well, and the magic was *different*.

The ending seemed to wrap up a bit quicker than I would have liked, but thats a minor flaw.

Overall, this was a fun read, that I zoomed through. Looking forward to the next instalment in the series!

(Note: I had a Kickstarter copy of this book and its audiobook, narrated wonderfully by Elena Anderson. I read and listened to the books together.)

I received an Advanced Reader Copy for free, and I am leaving a review voluntarily. These are my thoughts, and my thoughts alone.

I really enjoyed this book. Colorful characters and a fun and refreshing magical world and system.

The magic system. Refreshing. Our protagonist, Jayce, is an apothecary who can hear plants. They speak to her, sprinkling in little lies. Immediate intrigue cause why would a plant need to lie?

Sav. Oh Sav. Our other protagonist. I love him. He’s so witty and charming. His silliness I felt meshed incredibly well with Jayce’s seriousness, making for some pretty funny banter. Their banter was honestly my favorite thing about their dynamic.

And while I know their romance is a slow burn, it was a little too slow for what I’m used to. The romance part definitely left something to be desired. While I did appreciate the natural progression in their budding romance considering the short time they actually travel together, I certainly hope in book 2 we get more than a quick peck on the cheek.

My biggest complaint would be the pacing. Some parts felt a little rushed. Such as Jayce’s character and power development. Where there seemed to be very little at first and then all of a sudden there it was.

A pretty easy read that I feel would be a great way to introduce yourself into fantasy. The world building isn’t too complex, easy enough to follow and understand.

All in all, this book is pretty cozy and fun. I can’t wait for books 2 and 3.

Huge thank you to Bree Moore for sending me an ARC of the book in exchange for my honest review
From the moment I started to listen to the audiobook, I was completely wrapped in the story!
Jayce has a tough past that she tries her best not to remember but that isn’t always the case.
I loved how fierce and determined Jayce was regardless of the consequences of what she was after. Throughout the book, she was faced with many obstacles but she always managed to push forward. Cannot wait for book 2!

This book!! Ahh!! The Quill and the Vial is a cozy fantasy with magic, mystery, and an incredible female main character. Jayce is an apothecary with a unique ability to understand plants. She sets out on a search to cure a plague that has been ravaging the land and learns so much more in the process. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

Narrator Elena Anderson brings a special spark to the book that just adds to the experience.

I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review and honestly? This book/series is going to live in my head for a long time to come.

Wow this was good. Maybe it’s just that I haven’t been reading much fantasy lately, but there was such a unique touch to this story that made it incredibly enjoyable. The world just felt so colorful and full of life. The main character is charming with a unique ability and an enjoyable personality, the adventure plot was captivating, and I cannot wait for the next one!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Genre: Cozyish/Fantasy

Main Concepts:
Semi magical with cool plant powers. Really neat concept that I haven’t read before anywhere so that was refreshing. The plague on the lands is the main focus of the book. MC, Jayce, runs an apothecary and wants to find a cure.

Favorite scenes:
Will add this in later, don’t want to spoil anything. I will say that I did really enjoy the banter between the two MC’s, Jayce and Sav. They were part of my favorite moments for sure.

World building:
The world is decently fleshed out. I did enjoy the description of the moon colors and thought that was pretty cool. The world builds slowly throughout the story and does give readers a nice visual. I could definitely picture the world around the characters and that’s important to me. I didn’t feel like I was getting too much information at one time, so no overwhelming factor here.

Favorite quotes:
1.) “We can only live the lives we are given, no matter how much we may wish to live the life of another.”

2.) “Look, of all people, I can understand the urge to discover the history of a place. It’s a pull unlike almost anything I’ve felt,” Sav said, resting his forearms on his raised knees and gazing into the fire. “There’s only one thing it compares to. For me, that is.”“And what’s that?” Jayce asked, her breath hitching.“Falling in love.”

3.) “Why? Because you’ll sick your pet trees on me?”

4.) “I’m sorry, it’s just…The way the fire hits your face… You look… you look wild. Beautifully wild.”

5.) “You’re not a burden. You’re worth every investment I’ve made, and I would do it all again just for the chance to meet you.”

Spice level:
No spice to be found but the banter between the two MC’s made up for it a bit. Honestly, the only reason I’m not going full five star review is because I really wanted more romance. The world building and the secrets of the characters does make up for the fact that there is not a lot of romance. I do hope to see something more in book 2 though. I am a sucker for good romance in books but I do also enjoy the slow burn. I just know that when we finally do get some romance, it’s going to be on the kicking my feet and giggling level.

Overall:
Overall, I really did enjoy this book and the interesting new concepts that the author introduced. I am excited to see what happens next in the series and am rooting on Jayce and Sav. I want them to have everything they ever wanted and more. I want Jayce to continue with her character development and embrace her magic because she’s pretty bada**.

As always, this arc was given in exchange for a 100% honest review.

The Quill and the Vial was a really cozy, comforting, and lovely read, with dark elements.

The world is suffering from a plague which will either kill you, or turn you into a zombie-like creature, and currently there is no cure.

Jayce our FMC runs an apothecary, she has this magic that lets her talk to plants, which was really cool! However, she currently hates her magic, so she avoids touching and eating plants as much as possible. She's an independent woman who mostly keeps to herself. You'll learn why throughout the book. I loved watching her grow as I turned the pages.

When Jayce decides to leave the city to go on a quest (trying not to spoil anything here) she meet Sav, our MMC. Sav is a scholar, and he's writing a story about the origins of the plague. He is very interested in Jayces story, because she has been through some stuff in the past, and that's all I'll say about that. Sav is *chef's kiss*, and a little mysterious.

There's some lovely side characters, the worldbuilding was beautiful, the magic system was new and refreshing and I absolutely loved Jayce & Savs banter. This is a slooow burn cozy, but darkish fantasy with only hints at romance, and I really hope we can get some more of that in the next book.

I recommend this book for everyone who enjoys:
◇ Banter
◇ Slow burn sweet romance
◇ A unique magic system
◇ Secrets
◇ Cozy feels

Thanks author Bree Moore for sending me this ARC

This is my honest review :

I absolutely loved it … such a warm and cozy read with a gripping and intriguing storyline. Author Bree Moore’s writing is so beautiful that as I took the journey with Jayce and Sav, I felt like I was there in person.
Got immediately drawn to story from page one and wanted more of this magical fantasy.
Buckle in for a slow burn FMC, whom you see will become stronger as the story progresses. Loved the world building of talking plants to monastery of warrior monks and from killer reindeer to ruthless assassin, the book takes you through a magical roller coaster.
The author leaves mystery surrounding lot of events which makes it harder to miss book 2 and 3 in series of Plague king chronicles. I love how it ended with opening to book 2 which sounds even more interesting.
Definitely worth the read !

I received this book as my first ARC book and I’m super excited to say it was a really great one!

The story is super cosy and sweet. Nothing was overtly complicated and the world building and magic were very straightforward which I really adored. The FMC Jayce and her unique abilities allow for fantastic well earned character growth. I also loved the MMC’s personality and charm, as well as his ability to add humor and wit to the fun situations they find themselves in. The books ending was also very satisfying for me and it left a neat insight into what’s to come. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series, can’t wait for the next one!

Thanks Bree Moore for sharing your world with me! 💚

This book was very disappointing for me because as a backer on Kickstarter I was so excited for it. But it just didn’t deliver. I’ve never read a book by this author, so I didn’t know what to expect, but the premise sounded cool. In reality, the magic system is interesting but I’m sorry to say that the story needs a good editing before it should be formally published. It read like a first draft, with several errors and inconsistencies that should have been caught by a beta reader or even just another author read-through. A shame, because there’s a lot of potential here that will be wasted for the rest of the series.

The story has a lot of promise, a lot of elements that were really intriguing and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. However the pacing seemed a bit rushed at times and it felt like the story could have been fleshed out more. It takes you out of the flow of the story.

I received an early copy of this book from backing the Kickstarter, but I believe it will be available to everyone else next month. By the way, if the author does a Kickstarter for book 2, do it!!! This is easily the most beautiful book I’ve ever bought. Sprayed edges, page overlays, color illustrations and a map, and some stickers. It was stunning.

Anyway, on to the actual story. It’s a darkish fantasy about a world suffering from a terrible plague. It’s fatal, and without any cure. Even worse, some of the plague victims return as zombies 😱 (called moribounds).

The story centers around Jayce, who is an apothecary with a magical ability to communicate with plants. She’s also the prophesied chosen one who is supposed to defeat the Plague King and end the nightmare. The catch? The plan went down in flames years before the book begins.

The story is also about Sav, a scholar and baron who is studying the origins of the plague. He seeks out Jayce for answers about the disastrous mission from her past, and their paths become intertwined fairly quickly.

This story ended with some questions left unanswered, but since it’s part of a series I imagine it’ll be brought up in later books. We don’t get to find out very much about the prophecy, and I’m looking forward to having those questions answered in the next one. I’m also wondering about Sav’s past. I’m excited that Jayce’s friend played a larger role near the end. I had almost forgotten about him before that.

The world was pretty cool. I liked the moon changing colors for the seasons, and all of the different plants. It had a vaguely medieval style setting, which was fun. The queen’s magical voice and her evening song which keeps the moribound out of the capital was interesting. I’m suspicious of her, lol.

My only real critique is that I didn’t really feel like this was a cozy fantasy. They cooked breakfast together several times, and drank hot cocoa when they were making camp, but it wasn’t a cozy vibe overall. It was more like a dark fantasy that wasn’t horribly dark, if that makes sense. Not cozy, though. But it was still very fun and I recommend it.

A plague raging the realm, a apothecary on the run, a cure to be found.

This book's premise is excellent, and the reason I grabbed it as soon as I came across it.
I am sad to say I could not get into it...
It's not a problem of the story as far as I am concerned, because though simple, I found it quick, engaging, and with well-placed plot twists. The stakes are a bit lower than I personally prefer (even when something bad happens, you know they will quickly come out of it), but this is truthful to its "cozy dark" label, and I should have expected it. This is on me, as I am not a huge fan of cozy fantasy in general.
I think my engagement lacked the most when it came to immersion, and characters.
Regarding immersion, as a person who needs details to be able to picture places and people, the world and protagonists came through as rather non-descript. To make an example, I believe the age of most characters is never mentioned. This made it hard for me to imagine them. On the other hand, if you like books where descriptions are kept minimal, this will work perfectly for you!
Regarding characters, I could not connect with the main one, Jayce. Apart from her power (which I like very much), I found her personality bland, even when considering her mysterious past (hidden behind rather... curious panic reactions?) The co-protagonist, Sav, was better, but still fell a little short for me.
On the other hand, a few secondary characters stood up to me since the very first chapters: I found them vivid, vibrant and bubbly, and the author nails them down with just a few lines. Nels? Adorable. Sir Dray? Obnoxious and menacing.
The true highlight for me is Jayce's power, and how the author gave a personality to every single plant she interacted with. It was BRILLIANT, and to me it showed a lot of care and details went into it.
I also enjoyed the ending very much, it was heart-warming and made me smile, a good conclusion to this first part of the story.
A book that sadly didn't ring close to me, but I hope, and know it has the potential to ring close to many of you.

Read If You Enjoy
🌸 Epic Fantasy with Darker Elements
🌸 Slow Burn Sweet Romance
🌸 Unique Magic

This romantic fantasy was everything I was hoping it would be. I was initially drawn to this book because of the stunning cover and the unique magic that Jayce possesses.

This story follows Jayce, an apothecary who uses her plant magic to make and sell remedies to aid those who have fallen ill with the plague that has been threatening the realm of Neldor for the last seven years. When she is forced to flee her village, she crosses paths with Sav, and the two embark on a fantastical journey.

The world-building was beautiful and immersive, and it is very easy to imagine the lands our characters are traveling through. The adventure that Jayce and Sav are on is filled with terrifying foes and creatures, and twists and turns you won't see coming. The story was very well-paced, steeped in suspense and mystery. This book made it very difficult for me to return to real-life obligations.

The magic that Jayce possesses is unique. It is so different from anything I have read before. Bree weaves it into the plot in so many ways that really kept me engaged and eager to keep reading. I can't wait to see how it develops throughout the series.

I loved the characters in this story. Jayce was definitely my favourite. When we meet Jayce, she is timid and fearful of her abilities, and it is wonderful to watch her grow and learn to embrace who she is and the incredible abilities she possesses.

The banter and exchanges between Jayce and Sav were heartwarmly sweet and swoony and will definitely give you all the butterflies. The romance is not the focal point of this story, and there is no spice in this story. If that is a must in a story, this probably isn't the book for you.

While this story doesn't end on a cliffhanger, it does leave us with a lot of unanswered questions, and I am very excited for the next book in the series.

Thank you to Bree for the ARC copy of The Quill & The Vial. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review 🖤

If you follow my reviews, you already know that I am a huge fan of Bree Moore and her Shadowed Minds series. (If you still haven't read them, do so. Seriously! KU gold!) But let's face it, who hasn't been enthralled by an author only to be let down when a new series is started? Honestly? I am still unwilling to let go of Shadowed Minds and this series did not sound like it at all.

Plus, Bree Moore has proven adept at misdirection in the name of traumatizing her readers. Was I ready to dip my big toe into the waters of this new series? Ready or not, I delved in. I was not disappointed.

These characters! Chefs kiss. Loved them. The plot? It felt just like I was in a strange new world, rich with history, still recovering from recent upset, and facing a crisis that may or may not be tied to its past. I couldn't get enough.

I want the next book. I want the prequel. I want…to read it again and again and again. I'm not a big re-reader but I absolutely will be reading this at least two more by the end of the year and I really hope to sneak in one more time to see the new year in. It was that enjoyable!

I have long been a fan of Robert Jordan and Terry Goodkind. This book shows Bree Moore can hold herself among their caliber. What do I appreciate the most about this book? It will appeal to the very diverse readers in my family. Romantasy is forging itself a path to bring together readers across all genres.

Bree brings a story easy enough for my struggling readers without losing the interest of my hardcore fantasy readers. This is a clean read. There's no need for discreet covers or hiding your book from your friends and family.

The Quill and the Vial has a beautiful cover that gives nothing away but holds little clues and easter eggs. I definitely and decisively recommend this book to pretty much anyone who wants to enjoy a little fantasy this fall…or any season.

“Plants lied. They whispered twisted truths and hid falsehoods among their blossoms and roots. Jayce tried to ignore the mutterings that wafted through the air and found their way onto her skin…”

Need an easy, cozy, light-fantasy read? I read this book sooo quickly because it was just one of those books that flows easily! Jayce is an apothecary with plant magic. She can hear the plants whispering to her- even when she eats them. Unfortunately, she hates it and avoids touching or eating plants. I really loved this unique magic; I would’ve never thought up something so intriguing!

I LOVED the character growth we see in Jayce’s character as she learns how to better use her magic. I love Sav (MMC), and his banter with Jayce. I love his blond ish curls, and morally gray side- we don’t know what he’s hiding or why he’s so rich… but I know I want MORE between these two.

This book is not spicy, it’s not even warm, however, the story doesn’t really call for it.

The world building was good, and the pacing was also good, although I was a little bit confused with how often these characters ate? It seemed like they were always eating a meal. The timeline felt long but only 1-2 days had passed, though they shared more than a couple meals in that time. That would be my only complaint about the book. Despite that, the book read very easily and held my attention to the end!

I loved the unique story, the unique magic, and how the magic was used. I enjoyed the dialogue and the interactions between the characters. The backstory of the plague king was never fully explained so I’m really interested in learning what happened to Jayce and her family in the past. I will definitely be reading the second book when it comes out!

The Quill and the Vial was a comforting read, intriguing in its mysterious histories, and delightful in its portrayal of the inner voice of the, often duplicitous, natural world.

I picked this book up for the cunning narrations of plants and the perspectives they played in the story, and I wasn't disappointed. What a fun and surprising twist to contrast the long overplayed, exceedingly showy and larger-than-life supernatural powers that are so pervasive in fantasy.

I liked the main character, and found myself happily suspect of every new character that came along, trying to unroot the secrets and plots that might have been lurking behind surface impressions. Perfect!

My only drawback (small as it is!) was the dynamic between the two main characters. I loved their banter and friendship, but found just a little too many moments of awkwardly-brushing-hands and contrived reasons to minister one another. Don't get me wrong, all fine! But they all seemed to be in a row, and I would have preferred some more steady, normal interactions between them to balance it out.

But all in all, it was a sweet, innocent book that was blessedly free of inappropriate themes, and for that I am grateful. I've been content and intrigued, finding it a cosy, easy read, and I look forward to the next installment. Thanks for the opportunity to read, and good luck with the publishing!

The Quill And The Vial by Bree Moore is the first book in The Plaque King Chronicles. The cover looks amazing and the text “All plants lie” made me curious enough to want to read this book.

Jayce is an apothecary and is desperately searching for a cure against a deadly plaque. When the debt collector comes calling and makes her an offer she refuses, she flees into the wood and gets rescued, only to find herself helping this person with his quest.

From the very first the story is mysterious, and you get the feeling there is more to Jayce and this Plaque King. She has an unique magical talent, and one I have not read in earlier books that I’ve read. It came as a nice suprise what she can do and during the story she finds out more about her magic. She is a lovely character, wants to help people. The person who saves her has a mind of his own, he is very charming and humorous, and the interactions between them was great to read. The worldbuilding is unique, and the magical places Jayce goes to in search of a remedy, you can see before your eyes. The writing style is flowing, so you keep on reading.

I found The Quill And The Vial by Bree Moore a lovely, refreshing and cute fantasy story, with very likable characters, a bit suspense, action, humor, drama, magic and a lovely writing style, a story I enjoyed very much, it has suprised me in a good way. And one thing is for certain, I’ll look at plants with more care after reading this book. If you like to read a unique and magical fantasy story, with a nice writing style and very likable characters, this is the book.

I’ll be honest, I was a bit torn between a 3.5 star and 4 star review, but settled on 4 stars.

Jayce is an apothecary, treating a village during a plague. She can hear words that the plants speak, listing their properties for potential cures. However, all plants lie and Jayce tries to sift through the words to find the lie. The lie is buried beneath a sudden advancement to treating the plague, a poison disguising itself as a remedy. Jayce leaves town to find an antidote to the poison, meeting Sav (a historian interviewed in the plague’s origin) along the way.

I truly enjoyed most of this book, it felt like a nice atmospheric adventure and would be a great read for November. The plant magic element was fascinating and the building tension between the two leads was enticing. Though, the ending did feel very rushed which is why I was torn between my star rating. We were building up for a big reveal and didn’t receive it (who is behind the poison in this sudden remedy? who is Sav exactly? what caused the plague to begin with? and what exactly happened to Jayce and her brother when fighting the plague king?). I do wish that the book ended on more of a cliffhanger (like, finding out the poisoner’s identity), which isn’t something I say often. It just felt like the ending was wrapped up in a nice neat little bow with nothing to really excite us for the follow up book.

That being said, I do have my theories about who added the poison to the remedy and what we might see in the sequel. I do look forward to continuing the trilogy when the time comes!

🌱The Quill and the Vial by Bree Moore 🌱

★- 5

“All plants lie.”

The Quill and the Vial is the first book in the Plague King Chronicles by Moore. This is my first time reading anything by this author and boy did she come to play! When I am reading arcs, I rate them a little harder than already established books. As I stated about, I gave this 5 stars. I am in absolute AWE. I did not want this to end. This book could be 1,000 pages and I truly believe, with Moore’s writing style, I would be interested all the way through. The world building was impressive. The character development. The plot. Everything about this book was * chefs kiss *.
Jacye was a very interesting character with super exciting powers- plant magic. I really enjoyed getting to know more about what happened in her past. Then we also met Sav. The way Moore wrote Sav had me blushing right along with Jacye. He was so witty with his comments and his entire personality was charming.
This was an easy 5 for me. I was so captivated by the plot, world building, and characters almost immediately.

🪴This is where I would leave my recommendations for improvements; however, I honestly don’t have any. The way this book made me feel and I was insanely excited all the way through… I can’t get enough of this. I truly can’t. It’s been a hot moment since I’ve found a good that truly made me stop and soak in what I just read

Thank you Bree Moore for this opportunity to read the eArc. I am itching for more!!!!

A great, quick, cozy read!

The world Moore created is really interesting with the unique magics (plants that speak to you and lie? Songs that banish fatigue and sorrow? Very intriguing) and seasons (the moon turns different colors? That's neat) that help you nestle yourself into the fantasy world. The looming threat of the undead and the Plague King is always hanging just out of reach and I'm invested in learning more about that as the series progresses.

While the concepts are unique and novel, I felt the overreliance on tropes did knock the story down to three stars for me. Many times, it felt like the trope needed to happen, so it did, but wasn't really tied to the story as a whole. More like trope sidebars that got the checkmark, did that, now moving on. But it is classed as a cozy read, so if you find comfort in knowing exactly the tropes that are in store for you and seeing them get checked off, this does fit the bill.

The ending came quite abruptly for me, when I thought we were about to settle into some deeper lore and character motivations, it was cut short and we were rushed toward the finale that didn't quite hit the amount of resolution I would have liked it to - I don't think many plot threads were tied up here, but I suppose they will be in the subsequent books.

I feel like The Quill and the Vial is a solid read, but a bit light on the plot and might feel more complete as I read the next books in the series

This book was a captivating and unique read. The idea that plants can talk is something I’ve never encountered or considered and the creativity of Bree Moore is absolutely impressive!

As my first ARC, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I truly didn’t want to put the book down at any point! The plot had some twists and turns, some expected and others not. At the end I was left with lingering curiosities and predictions that have me excited for the second book in the series!

I would say my hand doesn’t usually reach for fantasy style books, but I find the improbable aspects of fantasy intriguing. This was no exception!

Jayce was a fascinating main character with confusing, yet desirable abilities. The development of her character was a little bit slow and then all at once, but I can’t wait to see where she is taken in the second novel!

Something else I found unique to this story was the minimal shared details of character appearance. I believe this leaves space for each reader to individualize what they think the characters look like, creating a more personal experience while reading.

Overall, I would give this book 4.5 stars. I’m pleased to have read it and certainly looking forward to the next. There are still discoveries to be made, love interests to develop or quash, and villains to (hopefully) bring to justice.

Rating: 4 stars

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review; thank you Bree!

CW: Plague, Zombie-like Being Created from Plague (mentioned a lot but minor interactions), Poison/Poisoning, Blackmail, PTSD Panic Attack/Episodes, Trauma Flashback (minor), Cannibalistic Deer

Tropes: Hidden Identity, Hidden Abilities, Slow Burn Romance (book 1 has flirting at max), Unique Magic System, Chosen One/Prophesy, High Stakes

Characters: I enjoyed the characters a lot. The unique magic system that is not only plants but with rocks/crystals briefly mentioned is really nice. I liked that the main character goes through growth and change.

Worldbuilding: This was definitely a world that has a ton of potential and I do enjoy that we are getting snippets in with the story rather than info dumping. It is well paced out and relevant to the story when things are expanded on. It feels natural to the storyline rather than having to dump a lot of info for us to understand what is happening.

Overall: Other than not knowing that it had zombie-like beings from a plague.. this book was a good read. It does have a high stakes feel to it and it feels like we have a brilliant start to what can be a good series ahead. It's enough that it gives you a taste of the world and you want to know more. I cannot wait for the second book, and also the cover is just so pretty.

I devoured this book! I love it when a book surprises me. If you are looking for a fantasy book with unique magic system and a slow-burn romance, this one is for you! I must say there is little to no romance yet. but, it is worth it. Recently, I have been reading a lot of instant love/lust that I really appreciated this being a well-written slow-burn romance. Although you might still be left with questions, I don't think its a cliffhanger. The problem in this first book had a proper conclusion.

I liked every bit of this novel. The main characters' banter was fun to read, They had great chemistry as well. One thing I appreciated in this novel is the proper character growth of the fmc. She was able to face her fear of her magic which is a very big step for her. I do hope on the next installment she would be able to confront her past. Sav is still quite a mystery and I have a few theories regarding him. The side characters were great too and I am look forward to their future appearances.

The magic system is quite unique. Not everyone has magic and those who has were acquired as gifts from the goddesses at birth or when a person has enough dedication to the goddesses. And the magic is different from one person to the other.

The only disappointment for me was the lack in world-building. I would appreciate more descriptions and details of the places they have been or the creatures they have encountered.

I'm highly anticipating the second installment of Plague King Chronicles

I started reading this book not too long ago, but I couldn't find myself to stop reading. It was a very pleasant read and loved the story.

Jayce being an apothecary wanting to desperately find a cure for the plague and her needs to help other people. Though she ends up helping this person on his quest instead of going on her own mission. How they met were rather interesting with him offering to pay her debt.

You didn't lay out too many details about each character which gave us as readers pleanty of fantasy to imagine what their past had been like or what else they were not telling. It gave me a mysterious feeling which I love.

Jacye had an incredible talent.

I could imagine how the places they went to looked like in my own mind when I was reading each chapter. Very delightful.

The whole story was very cute and magical. Lovable characters even those who held a grudge against Jacye like Dray. It had a little bit of everything action, some laughter here and there, magic.

The writing and detailing of the book was easy to understand and not too complicated. For those who enjoy reading fantasy book I'd highly recommend this one!
