After four years of training to become a Navy SEAL, Ned Marshall is finally ready to marry the woman of his dreams, Shae Johnson . And Shae’s been uber patient, waiting, building a life as a free-lance graphic artist, moving around the globe to be with him. So, when she said yes to his proposal in Geneva, he fully expected to live happily-ever-after.
At the very least, he expected her to be waiting at the hotel for him three days after an emergency call-out. And maybe it was unreasonable to expect her to be sitting in the hotel, working on her watercolors—Shae, after all grew up in Montana, and she has adventure in her blood. So of course she’s going to go climb the beautiful Swiss mountains. Even make a friend.
But Ned isn’t thrilled with her new friend, and something about him doesn’t feel safe…
So she’s made some friends while waiting for Ned to return? Shae can’t believe that after years of sacrifice, Ned is actually angry at her—what did he expect, that she’d sit by the window? Dana and his friends are harmless, right?
Not so much. Because when Shae finds herself kidnapped, and brought to Russia, she fears the worst—she’s been swept up in a human trafficking ring. And when she’s sent to, of all places, Siberia how will Ned ever find her?
But Ned isn’t going to lose her—not after everything they’ve been through, and he’ll stop at nothing to rescue her. But when he discovers the real reason she’s been taken, he will have to become a traitor to his country if he wants her back.
Join the epic race to rescue Shae in the high-adrenaline book three in the Minnesota Marshalls series.

I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.
I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.
Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.
Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.
Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.
I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.
I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. The high octane series continues with Ned and Shae's storyline that was introduced in the previous book Jonas, and it was more than I expected! I was fascinated with the dark setting in Sibera where Shae is sent. It's hard to believe slavery still exists in these forms in today's modern world, but it's horrifyingly true. Ned's devotion to Shae is limitless as he races against time and seemingly impossible barriers. The theme of faith and reliance on God and His plan is heartfelt and well-applied as Ned and his brother plan and fight on one end while Shae follows her instincts to stay alive and sane with help from a fellow prisoner. The twists had me glued to the pages and even when I thought I could let out my breath, the pace picked right back up! Along with Ned's rescue of Shae we have a subplot of his sister Iris and football player Hudson who are drawn into some secret agent stuff that's way over their heads and woven into the secrets and intrigue where many of the Marshalls siblings and cousins find themselves involved. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book! Because one story leads into the next, it's vital to read them in order. I do appreciate that the main character's story has a satisfying resolution even while the secondary characters have a cliffhanger to anticipate the continuing story.

"You keep fighting for joy. For hope. For faith. That, right there, is your superpower."
How is it possible that this series gets better with each novel? The adrenaline and fast-paced action are non-stop, heartfelt and timely faith lessons are real, and the romance is absolutely swoony. I've loved Ned and Shae since meeting them quite a few books ago and loved walking down memory lane with them even as they faced new obstacles and challenges. Fraser, Ned's oldest brother, played a big role in this story; their camaraderie and brotherhood bond were incredible and held my heart together when everything seemed to be falling apart.
Iris, the only female Minnesota Marshall, and Hudson are introduced in this story and I'm already completely invested in their adventure. It was good to see Roy, Ziggy, the Kingston brothers in Alaska, and some of the Montana Marshalls make delightful appearances throughout the plot.
The overarching theme of chasing down radioactive waste and a rogue ex-CIA operative continues in this book while Ned hunts down Russian mafia to rescue Shae and Hudson goes out of his way to protect Iris from an unknown threat. I can't get enough of these Marshalls! Bring on Iris and Creed!
I received the book from the publisher via JustRead Publicity Tours and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
Ned is the third book in the Minnesota Marshalls series by Susan May Warren. Let me tell you, with her many years of writing experience, this author knows how to write books that keep your heart pounding and your fingers turning pages quickly.
Ned has been through four years of training to be a Navy SEAL. He has the woman of his dreams, Shae Johnson is waiting for him in Switzerland. Unfortunately, when he finally gets to see her after being on a mission, the two have a disagreement. That is bad enough, as both Shae and Ned almost instantly regret their words, but right afterwords Shae goes missing. Shae has been kidnapped by Russian thugs and is in Siberia. What will it take to get her back?
Ned has some hoops to go through to get to Shae. I love all the action in this book. I like the close-knit Marshall family and how they all work to help each other out in difficult times. I also like Shae and my reader heart goes out to her in her difficult predicament that I can not imagine in our modern world today because it would be very hard. Yet God is working in both of their lives. I like the spiritual element in this book. I like the romance. I also like how the next book in the series is building about Iris. Warren already starts weaving her story in between Ned and Shae's story. Readers learn about Iris and her football player friend who is helping her as they run from the bad guys. There is some great scenes with them that add a humor element to the book. Of course, we are left with an Iris cliff hanger so we can't wait for the next book to come out. There is a first chapter reader preview of Iris at the back of Ned and, believe me, I am ready for Iris now!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through JustRead Tours. All opinions within this review are my own.
Ned was non stop and I loved every suspenseful, how in the world are they going to get out of this moment. I loved Ned and getting to know Shae as an adult was such a great journey. What a tough, but still soft and relatable gal! I so appreciated the character growth Susan wrote into Shae’s story. She was determined and plucky, but readily admitted when she was wrong. I loved seeing that.
Hudson and Iris 🫶🏼👏🏼. I was blindsided by my love for Hudson as a character. What a gem! So much banter, so many laugh-out-loud quips between these two. So epic. I can’t wait for more of them.
So much to love about Ned, both the character and the book. I love the way Susan truly transports you to whatever location she’s writing about. She has a way of making you feel like you are right there in the room with her characters from one setting (or country) to the next.
Ned was excellent and surprise, surprise left me with so many questions and wanting the next in the series asap.
The stories of the Minnesota Marshall’s continued in book 3 with Ned, a Navy Seal. His fiancé is kidnapped by a Russian human trafficking ring and is in need of rescue. Full of suspense, there are many dangers they both must face. There are many side characters and some situations that felt unbelievable, that I never really got invested in to the story. I’m definitely in the minority in my rating with it having 4.73 stars on Goodreads!
Well...the Marshalls' roller coaster ride continues!! This time it's about Ned, and his fiance Shae. Ned & Shae have been together forever. Or so it seems. And he finally proposed to her, (close to the end of the previous book) and she disappears. At first, Ned wants to give her space and allow her time to think about stuff. But then, he learns that she has been abducted, probably by a high-profile human trafficking ring, and he is determined to find and rescue her. This story continues to take readers all over the world, and finally even as far as Siberia. Shae is taken to a gulag ship, and held hostage where it is practically impossible to escape.
Ned finds himself facing the most intense scenario ever. Will he be able to find and save Shae?
This story is quite an action packed adventure. Mystery, danger, murder, imprisonment, world travel, and so much more. And again, just like the earlier books in this series.... the ending is not really an ending, but rather a cliff hanger that leaves you wanting to read the sequel IMMEDIATELY!! I highly recommend this story for anyone who loves a good mystery, and especially Susan May Warren fans. But, do yourself a favor, and read the first two books in the series first. This one can definitely be read as a stand alone, but it does make a lot more sense if you read them in order.

Ned by Susan May Warren has plenty of twists and turns. I learned more about Russian prison ships than I ever knew existed. Warren does a wonderful job at creating a setting that is both repulsive and bleak in one single description. It was nice to return to the Minnesota Marshalls and see familiar characters from previous stories by Warren. Frazier makes an appearance. Ned will do anything to find and rescue Shae, and he does it a number of times in this story alone. Wonder what their marriage will actually be like. Hopefully, less stressful. The romance is really not that over the top. Two, I believe, kisses, but not a lot of passion swirling around the moment to make readers say enough already. Warren does a wonderful job at crafting enough tension and conflict that the characters have to actually work for their release. One of my favorite aspects is the call for God when they are stuck in a difficult situation. Not made up. A real heart-wrenching moment when the characters realize how strong they can be when God is their corner, fighting alongside them. Something we can all learn. Overall, Ned by Susan May Warren captured my attention, and I can’t wait to read Iris and see what happens to her.
I received a complimentary copy of Ned by Susan May Warren from Sunrise Publishing through JustRead Tours, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Man oh man oh man!!!! This series is SOOOO FREAKING AMAZING!!!! Gah! Susan May Warren writes such incredible stories! The action and adventure, the romance, the faith, the banter, the humor, the sibling relationships! 😍🥰🔥😍 so so good!
And dang, I was all ready for Ned and Shae (who I seriously LOVED),but then Iris and Hudson came out of nowhere!!!! 😍😍🔥😍 wowser, am I so ready for their book! 😍
An intense story from start to finish, Ned by Susan May Warren kept me flipping pages as Ned desperately searched for his fiancé, Shae, while Shae tried to stay alive after being kidnapped. I struggled to like Ned for a substantial portion of the novel as Ned was obsessed and angry from the start (rightfully so considering the circumstances). However, the plot twists and suspense held my attention throughout the book. Could anyone possibly survive everything that Ned did? I am not sure, but between the romantic suspense and the spiritual themes, I enjoyed reading Ned.
Every so often in Ned, Susan May Warren dropped fabulous quotes filled with spiritual insights. The statements felt natural with the flow of the story. Some were so impactful, I had to stop reading and take a minute to let them sink in. While the characters may have learned these truths a bit too easily (character development was limited), the spiritual insights were my favorite aspect of Ned.
Ned lands as book three in The Minnesota Marshalls series. It is essential to read these stories in order as Fraser, the protagonist of book one, played a supportive, but substantial role in this book. Ned also included characters from novels prior to this series (some I had read, some I had not) and trying to keep everyone’s story straight felt overwhelming. Ned is not my favorite book in this series, but I enjoyed it and I am anticipating book four, Iris. 3.5 Stars for Ned by Susan May Warren.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I was provided a copy of this book by the author or publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.
"I know this about you, Ned. You don't give up. You don't surrender. And yeah, thats a good thing. Until it comes to God. See, He doesn't need a partner, bro. He needs a solider, a warrior, someone who sets himself behind God, not equal with Him. You two are not co-leaders. And you're not supposed to be--that's what He means by 'Come to Me all who labour and are heavy laden. I will give you rest.' You don't have to carry the answers, or even the troubles."
Ned Fraser is used to being the one with the answers. As a Navy SEAL, he's the one who will risk his own life to save others. But this time he's screwed up. Big time. He never dreamed his pre-mission fight with his fiance, Shae, would end in her disappearance. Oh, and she didn't just stop taking his calls--she's been kidnapped by a human trafficking ring.
Shae Johnson is a patient woman. After all she's spent the past four years following Ned around the world while building her career as a freelance graphic artist and waiting for the day he would finally slow down enough to propose. That day has finally come, but Ned doesn't seem to be a fan of the new friends she's made while he was on his latest mission. Sure, Dana is a guy and somewhat over-friendly, but he's harmless. Right? Or maybe not. Because when she stomps off after an argument with Ned, Dana is there to whisk her away. And not on a romantic vacation like she was having with Ned. Nope, she's off to Russia, and then to Siberia.
But Ned isn't going to give up. Not with everything they've been through. Not even if it mean's betraying his country.
Wow. This book! Every chapter is jam-packed with suspense, faith, and romance. The plot is solid and the non-stop action kept me glued to the pages. I love that the story unfolds throughout the series, and we don't just see each character for one book. I especially enjoyed the side story with Hudson and Iris; I can't wait for their book now! Oh, and Creed. I need to see where SMW takes him asap.
Ned is the kind of hero who is larger than life, and will stop at nothing to protect the ones he loves. He really struggled with relinquishing control and trusting God with Shae, but his character grew so much throughout the story. I loved seeing Shae as an adult! She's come a long way from the scared teenager back in the Montana Rescue series and is now a strong woman with a big faith in the God who is present even in the darkness. I'm a big fan of how Susan May Warren weaves in characters from her previous books and thoroughly enjoyed seeing some of my old favourites play a role in this novel.
I can't recommend this novel enough. If faith-filled romantic suspense is your thing, you won't want to miss Ned! And the rest of the series, or anything that Susan May Warren has written, honestly. I definitely recommend reading both Fraser and Jonas before picking up Ned, but, honestly, you'll probably want to go back to the Montana Rescue series for the full backstory on Ned and Shae. And while you're at it, you might as well keep going and read the Montana Marshalls, Global Search and Rescue, Sky King Ranch, and The Epic story of RJ and York series to really get all the pieces of the plot pulled together. I know, it sounds like a lot of reading, and you could easily read just this one series and get the gist of it, but I guarantee you won't regret it.
*As a member of the launch team, I received a complimentary copy of Ned through the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own. My positive review is not required.
A expected this book was a wild ride jammed packed with intense situations that kept me flying through the pages as fast as I could read. . There was suspense, romance, and faith all woven together with just the right dose of humor to break up the intense life and death stakes that Ned and Shae found themselves in. . Susan May Warren gave us just enough closer and clarity in Ned and Shae' story to leave you sati6and at the same time left enough hanging unfinished to make you eager to hear what they are going to be up to next. I love how we get some good page time with the characters in the next book to absolutely love them. Their banter and forced proximity had me hooked. I can't wait for Iris' book. Not just because of the situation she left her in at the end of Ned, but because I ADORE the characters and I want to see more of them. . And while this book is just how I like my RS, with plenty of action and romance broken up with some lighter moments, it had some really great character growth moments and a faith thread that spoke to me. I think that we will all go through times we wonder if God has forgotten us in the chaos of life these days. I really appreciated the reminder of how He is present even in out darkest times. We saw the earlier time of Ned and Shaes journey years ago and this glimpse into who they have grown to be is so special. . Like I said. This book is the whole package. If you are new to the game start with Fraser. I recieved a complementary copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are completely my own and honest.
I actually woke up in the middle of the night worrying about the characters in this book! When I wasn’t reading about them, Shae & Ned were stuck in my head as I worried about how they’d get out of their desperate situation! It was so satisfying to read about their story after meeting them in Montana Rescue series! They are both great characters and this story was an amazing, suspenseful adventure concluding their romance and introducing Iris & Hudson. The two stories together made this book unputdownable! And of course, in typical SMW style, you get a bunch of other beloved characters from previous stories that makes this book even more fun.
This was one was good. Shae and Ned first met when they were younger in one of Warren's previous series. When Shae gets kidnapped after a fight between them, Ned, a Navy Seal, doesn't wait to go find her. With Fraser by his side, Ned heads to Siberia to rescue Shae who is in a Russian gulag. Ned had difficulty with relinquishing control and trusting God, but that's a lesson he had to learn. Shae had a few lessons to learn herself as she had a rough past until she moved in with her uncle. This story was fast paced, suspenseful, and had me flipping the pages wanting to know the outcome. I'm looking forward to Iris who appeared in Ned.
In true Susan May Warren fashion, this exciting story begins with a fast-paced race against time. I simply couldn't put it down!
Main characters, Ned and Shae, are returning characters from previous books. While this book reads well as a standalone, I enjoyed it more knowing their history, as I was able to cheer them on as a couple. Their romance is strong and sweet; I loved their devotion, their belief in each other and their connection. Ned's perseverance made him the perfect hero. He was skilled, determined and I loved his dangerous, impulsive edge. I saw the most growth in him as a character as he realized what he wanted most and relinquished his need for control. Shae is a driving force in this story. Her backstory was heartbreaking but her character was strong and resilient, which I loved.
There were so many heart-pounding moments in this story, that it left me breathless. I also loved the added bonus of the preview into the next story coming up, Iris. Iris and Hudson have already captured my heart as well and I can't wait for that book's release!
With deep faith threads, a strong family bond, protective alpha-heroes and independent, fierce heroines, this book thoroughly entertained me from beginning to end! It is clean, wholesome, exciting and edgy, thrilling and daring! Don't miss it!
* I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary e-copy of this book from the author. All thoughts are my own and I was not required to post a positive review.
What a crazy fun ride this story was! Filled with spies, kidnapping, double agents, Russian gulags and never giving up, this story doesn’t stop from first page to last. To all this was added forgiveness, learning to trust and love that didn’t quit, no matter the odds. I loved how all the former and future stories tied together and how we got to see characters from entirely different series’ make an appearance. I’m not giving spoilers because Susie’s books speak so well for themselves. But if you haven’t picked up her books yet, I promise that you are missing out on some of the best suspense reads out there today - so go get yours now!!

Ned by Susan May Warren is the latest installment in the Minnesota Marshalls series, and it focuses on Ned Marshall and Shae Johnson (Esme Shaw from the Montana Rescue series). Shae is a strong and courageous woman, but her over-confidence lands her in a heap of trouble. Ned is another strong alpha male with one weakness – Shae. He wants to protect the people he loves and will sacrifice everything to get Shae back safely after she’s kidnapped. I liked how both Shae and Ned grew during this story and how they learned to trust each other and God. Warren always has a nice faith message. You’ll find all the action from previous books. There were a few scenes that had me on the edge of my seat, and there’s just the right amount of romance. I would read the series in order simply because it will be a more coherent story. I received an advance reader copy, but it’s for sure I’ll be adding the paperback to my Susan May Warren collection.
As this series goes on and the Minnesota Marshalls get more involved with the Russian Bratva, the intensity is ramping up. So Fraser started with about the amount of suspense vs romance that I most enjoy, and now in the third book, Ned, the suspense aspect doesn't really let up. Sometimes it felt a bit more over the top to be believable, especially for these shortened novels where a lot is packed into a smaller book. Ned is stubborn and independent and seems of the brothers to be the least willing to turn things over to God. At the same time, this story has a wonderful reminder that regardless of our circumstances, we are safe, because we are seen, known, and loved by the Lord. Because so much of the book is about getting into and running from danger, we get very little idea of what Ned and Shae are actually like together. In fact, their romance was roundly overshadowed by Iris's. I enjoyed all the page time we got with Iris and Fraser in this book, and overall enjoyed it, even though I left it feeling like I don't actually know Ned as well as I would like.
I read a copy provided through JustReads Tours. I'm not required to provide a positive review and these are my honest and unfiltered opinions.
Dad told me that we were never meant to be self-sufficient. That we were supposed to be dependent. On each other. And most importantly, on God.
OH MY! Ned was funny, serious, gentle, dangerous and the ultimate hero!
This book brought action, twists and turns, cameos from favourite characters from previous serious…NATE anyone? And a great setting to the next book Iris.
Shae and Nate have a history which started in one of the author’s previous series… Montana rescue. But you will not be lost if you only meet them in this book. The author has a great talent of bringing new readers up to date without making frequent readers feel like it is just a copy paste.
I loved how the author uses the physical struggles of the characters to bring spiritual growth, truth, and importance to the front.
I am so excited for the next book in this series!
*I received a complimentary copy from the author. All opinions expressed are my own.*
As usual, Susan's written an action-packed suspense that continues the storyline from book 1 & 2 with the Russian bad guys and the biological weapon. Also as usual, there's a fair amount of pages dedicated to characters other than Ned & Shae (my main nitpick w/her writing in general). In fact, Ned & Shae spend a whopping 12-24 hours together through the entire book, so there wasn't much romance sprinkled in with the action and I never really felt this couple's connection to each other. At times the action moved so fast, the descriptions so sparse (and the lack of 'he said/she said' so you couldn't always tell who was speaking) that it was hard to tell what was going on. It also left the fate of characters who'd risked their life to help this couple unknown (and completely glossed over how Fraser managed to show up alive without his counterpart Pavel), which was, frankly, annoying. Not my favorite Susan book. 3.5 stars.
Once again Susan May Warren pulls out all the stops in the latest installment of her Minnesota Marshalls series. Ned Marshall, a Navy Seal, has been in love with Shae for several years and is ready to settle down with her, now that his training is over. Rather than finding her waiting for him at the hotel where he left her, Shae has disappeared. With a little help from his family and friends, he learns that she has been kidnapped and is being held aboard a Russian gulag ship near Siberia.
Yes, this author is the best at getting her characters into nearly impossible and may we say extremely dangerous situations. But you know true love will find a way to rescue her and Ned is more than determined to get Shae back. Needless to say, in true Warren tradition, everything will seem to be worked out only to have them crash again and possibly even again. This author definitely knows how to keep her readers engaged.
As always, I loved yet another book. I am fascinated by how well Warren manages to keep all the connections straight between current characters and numerous others who have been featured in previous books. It is definitely fun to see familiar faces pop up unexpectedly yet the current novel easily stands on its own without the reader needing to know what happened two or three series back.
Readers who enjoy action, danger, and suspense, characters who travel from one side of the globe to another, and a bit of romance and faith mixed in for good measure will love Ned. Of course they will probably be tempted to go back and read every previous book by Susan May Warren to see what happened to all the other connected characters. Good luck keeping up!

Ned is an amazing fast-paced novel that you’re going to love reading! It’s also part of an amazing series that you need to read! I have read all of the Minnesota Marshalls that are out so far and I really really need the rest of them to read too! They’re so good! Oh, and there is the other Marshall series. Some of those characters show up in this series as well. I love having old friends visit again!
READY FOR AN ADVENTURE? Want to travel to a remote island in Russia?
What about rescuing a kidnap victim?
You’re going to get all of that and more! Ned is our main character this time. He was engaged to Shae but in the last book of this series they had a tiff and she gave him back the ring. He’s regretted it ever since!
When he can’t get ahold of Shae and when no one knows where she is he sets off to find her. What he finds is that she was grabbed off the street right after she left him. He will stop at nothing to find her!
Shae on the other hand has no idea why she has been kidnapped and only wants to get away. What happens when Ned and his friends and then his teammates go to rescue her?
Can Ned find Shae and get them all to safety?
WILL HE BREAK THE RULES? This is such an amazing book. I read it in one sitting. I did not want to put it down. Now I’m ready for the next one in the series. They really need to come out faster!

Have you ever watched one of those movies where one disaster after another keeps happening? Well, Ned Marshall has to feel as if he is living in one right now. Yes, things are that bad.
But to fully appreciate the full picture, you need to have read the previous book Jonas, in which Ned's proposal/engagement to his longtime girlfriend, Shae Johnson, doesn't go according to plan. Okay, it goes wrong, like major big time wrong. So big that they have a disagreement, break up, Ned gets called up for a mission, and Shae disappears. See, a disaster movie with trouble just piling up.
But Ned is a Marshall, and Marshalls have each other's backs. Soon big brother Fraser who is helping to protect a princess (book #1 in the series Fraser) is volunteering to help Ned find Shae. And then, through a twist of fate or just Marshall luck, their sister Iris, who is a football ref in Europe, gets caught up in everything. (Setting the stage for book #4, Iris).
So if you want high-suspense romance, with plot twists that will keep you guessing, you will want to read Ned, along with the two previous books in the series. And anyone who has read Susan May Warren's previous books knows that characters from her previous books have a way of popping up when least expected, so don't be surprised by who may play a part in this whole shebang. And there may be treason involved somewhere along the way. So, yeah good read that will most definitely make you tell yourself repeatedly, "Just one more chapter." Experience speaking here!
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own
Wow. This heart-stopping, thrilling adventure had me enthralled! From the moment I started reading, it felt like my heart was in my throat, like I was right there along side Ned and Shae as they attempted to make their way back to one another. I knew this was going to be an intense adventure, but, frankly, that would be putting it lightly.
Every time I picked this novel up to keep reading, I was drawn in. Before I knew it, it was three chapters and two hours later. I held my breath throughout the whole book, hoping that this time, Ned and Shae were safe...only to have the other shoe drop a couple pages later. When I reached the final chapter, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.
And while I got my happy ending for this novel, I know this storyline is far from over. This all being said, I really enjoyed getting to know Shae and Ned better. I haven't made it to their original story in the Montana Rescue series yet, so, I really loved the way Susan gave you a recap of their backstory while leaving me still really wanting to finish that series to find out more.
Once again, Susan also delivered on the faith journey. I loved the correlation between Shae's experience in Russia and the verse highlighted throughout the story (no spoilers, I promise!) It was such a neat way of bringing Shae hope in the middle of her battles. Also, can I just say, Judah?! Ugh, loved him so much! (Again, I'm doing my best to stay away from spoiling anything.)
And then there was the introduction of Iris. Let's just say that I am looking forward to another action packed novel full of near death experiences, faith and saving the world. Yeah, we'll say that and leave it.
Award-winning author Susan May Warren continues her contemporary romantic suspense series featuring the Marshall family in Minnesota.
In Ned, Navy SEAL Ned Marshall expects Shae Johnson to be patiently waiting for him while he completes his training. But she makes friends and goes on an adventure of her own - hiking in the Swiss mountains.
Unfortunately, her new hiking friend is not who he seems to be, and Shae is kidnapped and transported to Siberia. Can Ned rescue her from the human tracking ring before it’s too late? If he does, what will be the cost?
Trusting God and recognizing His control in all situations are central themes in this storyline. Warren’s latest book is filled with flawed but realistic characters and a fast-paced plot that grabs the reader’s attention early on. Looking for non-stop action-adventure and heart-pumping suspense? Ned has all of these and more including faith journeys, and a teaser for the next book, Iris, coming in later in August 2023.
Many of Warren’s recent books end on a cliffhanger, making it difficult to read as a standalone, although she does an excellent job with the backstory. However, most readers will want to read the first two books, Fraser and Jonas, to appreciate the introduction to the Minnesota Marshall family and the appearance of Warren’s characters from her earlier Marshall books.
Recommended for adult collections and high school readers who like their action intense and romance clean, as well as Susan May Warren fans.
Disclaimer: Book reviews are my honest opinion of books I either purchased or received free of cost from the publishers, publicists, and/or authors.
Ned the Navy Seal is like a force of nature: he’s smart, he’s strong, and he’ll stop at nothing to rescue the woman he loves. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a hunk and a half, either. Seriously, while looks aren’t really what matter, it is pretty cool when someone’s character shines through and makes the outside wrapping just as amazing as the inside.
That’s Ned and Shae. They’ve been through it all – literally. They’ve been popping up in other Warren books for years, and their own story, now that it’s finally here, is everything that we’ve been waiting for.
Ned continues the global rescues and heroic ventures that Warren has made her signature in her last few series. The action is high and the stakes are higher – and it will all just keep you turning the pages faster and faster.
That’s really because you want what’s absolute best for Ned and Shae, though. You can’t help but cheer them on from your couch as they face terrorists, human traffickers, and more. The adversity that they’ve faced down shines through in the wisdom that floats off the pages. I wish that my digital version was highlight-able, because much of the text would’ve been pretty colors by the time I was done – there are so many hunks of wisdom that I want to remember.
So grab your copy of Ned now and clear your calendar, because you’ll want to settle in when this book arrives and enjoy the heart-wrenching ride uninterrupted.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
I seriously don't know how you handle the extreme amounts of stress and pressure you face every single day. You must be wired so differently than me. I think I would explode from the craziness that is your life. Those Russian waters sounded so scary and deadly. When you and Shea were in them I couldn't breathe. I admire your determination and the way you fiercely defend and protect not only your country and family but your woman as well. In fact, I might be slightly enamored with the way Shea took first seat in the debate between her and your country. Call me crazy. And, while we are talking about Shea, wow. What a woman. No wonder you are in love with her. She is tenacious, smart and resourceful. And well, she loves you. Believes in you. Trusts her life to you. That's something pretty special.
I'm pretty sure you all need therapy though. You've been through so much.
Good luck finding your sister in the next book. It looks like things are going to get crazy again. But don't worry. You've had at least one good night's sleep, right? And a couple meals? Come home alive because I really want you to marry Shea. And take a nap. :) Even I need one after reading your story because my heart is still beating fast from the constant, non stop action and danger. Phew!
Sincerely, A fan
This book is part of a series you must read in order. Content: peril, violence, death. Kissing. Moderate Christian elements (praying, talk of God) - I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Every time I have the privilege of reading one of Susan May Warren’s books, I don’t want to stop and wait for the next book to come out. Her books take you on a ride and don’t let you go. Each one has so much drama, suspense, action, and bits of romance and you find yourself having to remember to breathe, or you faint because of holding your breath. Her characters are always being put through so much and having to run for their lives. WOW! Susan May Warren is a very gifted writer. One of the things I really appreciate about her writing is that she’s not afraid to speak the truth. She wove sweet life lessons throughout this book. Lessons like reaching out to God when it feels like you are all alone. Another thing the author wove into this book, is that we don’t need to be the ones in control. God has got it all in His hands and timing. When it feels the darkest, He’s still there with us! I’ve said this before, but it needs to be said again . . . Whatever Ms. Warren writes I’ll read because I know I’ll be captivated and blessed in a way that is life-changing. She is one of my favorite authors to read and whenever I hear there’s a new book out, I’ll run to buy it! I highly recommend you pick up this new book. You just might end up like me, waiting on pins and needles for the next book! I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own
Not sure what the author intended here, but for me, it looked as if the story got away from the author who was trying to wrestle it back on course, resulting in a sort of slapstick espionage story, with the US (of course!) protagonists surviving everything while keeping their sense of humour, and all of a sudden finding God, citing or remembering 2 Bible verses throughout the book, and discussing them at the most inconvenient moments. What I did learn from this book:
a. US protagonists are tough and survive everything b. US protagonists crack jokes when they are in danger c. German guards of a nuclear waste plant will stop guarding the plant on a US SEAL (or whatever) team's say-so (NO THEY WON'T!!!!!) d. If a US protagonist is a Christian or finds/remembers God during the story, he or she will be saved from all dangers. If you happen to be a Russian Christian, sorry that doesn't count, you'll die. e. European countries are all so close to each other, it doesn't matter if they're not neighbouring countries, as long as it fits your storyline.
Add to that all those abbreviations which I had to look up - in case anyone is wondering, I am not a US citizen, and do not know them. Furthermore, this was not really a stand-alone, as there were numerous hints to previous books that left me as a reader a bit lost; some very short summary would have helped.
Maybe this series is not intended for non-Americans?
The Minnesota Marshalls do not disappoint. They have the same pants-on-fire life-is-an-adventure somebody's-going-to-get-in-trouble genes as the rest of the Marshalls we know and love. Ned, there is so much about Ned. When it comes to matters of the heart can he trust his gut as he's learned to do as a Navy Seal or should he err on the side of trusting his beloved? Shae Johnson has given up her life to follow Ned around the globe while he's built his career. Of course she says yes when he finally proposes and of course the Teams have an emergency that whisks him away once again. She's not going to just sit idly by while she waits for his return which will be who knows when. She's going to explore Europe thank you very much. And even better if she makes friends while she's at it. And then it all goes wrong. Just as Ned fears like always Shae finds herself in trouble. We spend the pages of this tale following Ned as he tracks down his fiancé to the backwaters of Siberia. How many things do you think will go wrong? One of my favorite lines, "Can't you Marshalls stay out of anything?" I love this family. I love the adventures Warren takes them on. I cannot wait to find out what Iris will get in to. Thank you SDG Publishing for the opportunity to explore this book! All opinions are my own.
