A couple of chapters are really good. Others.... not so much. Perhaps my expectations were too high.

A series of essays on the art of creative writing looking at various aspects and filled with sound advice, presented well. This is both text book and an interesting read. The range of voices presented is a strength, but also perhaps a weakness too, in that the relevance can vary. Yet I feel that what is relevant for me might differ for other readers, so this book contains something for everyone. I expect I will refer back to it in the future.

I only read this book because my degree required it. A couple of the chapters are worth reading, but the rest is academic based, not to help you write a book but to further expand your understanding of ‘creative writing’ as a whole.

A superbly engaging collection of writings on different modes of creative writing and its importance as an art form in its own right.

Not all of this was relevant or interesting to me, but the chapter on writing short stories was very helpful.
