“The bread and butter of the story is found in the slow revelations about the two characters and their states of mind, revealed to readers in an unassuming way. Instead of lots of gore, ostentatious violence, and scares, there is dramatic, psychological horror with a side of thrills.” - Kirkus Reviews
In TORMENT, Veronica Carter is an up-and-coming photographer, whose client list extends from the fashion world to the city elite. Maintaining a dispassionate eye can be challenging, especially for a mind having difficulty bridging between reality and a deep psychological instability. Through Veronica’s lens she documents a hunger in others that she alone seems capable of seeing.
Anna Albertson is the relentlessly efficient owner of a prominent security and surveillance firm in New York City. While her reputation as a calculating businessperson is well earned it also serves to mask her true passion, identifying and correcting the world’s imbalances.
One fateful night as Veronica’s fragile world collapses, Anna finds herself in a position to act as savior. The resulting relationship is a dance of manipulation, shifting power and psychological distress. Together, they amplify one another’s skills and flaws while learning that they can’t fully trust one another or even themselves.
"Heidin and Slater’s riveting novel offers a weird, dark, and unsettling tale that deftly creates foreboding." and "An unexpected cliffhanger signals that there’s more to come from this remarkable pair of vigilantes." - Kirkus Reviews
This was an interesting book and I was enjoying it Then it just ended with both heroines in danger. If you want to know what happens you must buy the next book . I wont. And won't buy a book by either of these authors .
