Softer than the first book "Admiral's Acquisition" is is a cozy femdom fantasy, about a starship captain who rescues an impoverished young man from a dire fate.

After Maverick, adopted father to a gaggle of street orohans, offers to take a heavy punishment for one of his charges when they are caught pick pocketing, Captain Macy intervenes and takes him away with her for the 6 month minimum of his sentence. On the starship, Mave learns to trust for the first time and in the process Macy discovers just what a loving heart he has. Much open door gentle femdom ensues.

If you like the idea of getting to wave a magic wand and right wrongs while lifting someone up this will be a warm cup of comfort for the soul. I like harsher stuff by default, but I am incredibly glad this book exists and the hurt/comfort aspects still please me immensely.

Content note: this spacer setting is harsh and full of themes of slavery and the explicitly implied risk of sexual abuse. Nothing a squintillion romance novels don't casually backdrop for M/f pairs, but if the idea of a setting where the state threatens you with being sent to the mines or a brothel would ruin your day, this might not be for you.

I am very excited to read the third book when it comes out, and see what Luna Gold does with it.

(This is a stand alone part of a trilogy. You do not need to have read the first book.)

Good romantic sci fi adventure

But the very unequal power dynamic made me uncomfortable. I understand the author wants to flip the normal dynamic, but the Captain didn't do anything to increase Mave's self-worth before entering into a sexual relationship with him. I also understand that this inequality is part of the somewhat grim universe the Admiral and her colleagues are attempting to change. There is graphic sex and referenced human trafficking, as well as referenced child abuse.

Finished the book in a single day, and I sadly noticed the same flaws as in the first book. I am still struggling with trying to figure out if its a me thing. But since reviews are nothing more then glorified opinions, im just gonna share my thoughts.

I feel like there is a trend with Luna Gold where the first half is amazing. From the first few chapter, I was smiling broadly and laughing between the interactions of Kira and Macy. But just like the first book, it just flies through the relationship. On day 2 of them knowing each other they grew incredibly close, and I really felt like Luna, was making Macy to be too much of a savior, if you read the book you will know what I mean.

She also puts in the horrible trope, I think its called Act 3 break up? And because of........ a miscommunication. There is this potential in Luna Gold's books that is there on the surface, just waiting to be let out. But it seems, Luna Gold struggles a lot in making that potential come true, ultimately leaving me feeling like I read a very subpar romance book.

Things that I think could very much be improved, less sex scene's, there are too many, and they are too short.

The quick love that develops between the characters is just annoying to me. I think it would be so much more effective, so much more meaningful if the distrust between the couple lasted for much longer and goes a lot deeper, the children also grew way too attached way too quickly, which made me feel like I was reading more of a fanfic based on the first book, then a sequel.

The duo PoV, I really liked in the beginning, but I was dreading it later on in the first book, and it was a bummer to see it being continued in book 2. One of the reasons being, Luna Gold tries to set something up that should have a lot of tensions, but that tension doesn't exist, because three chapters before, Luna Gold already revealed in the PoV of one of the main characters that there is nothing to worry about. Basically, you get spoilers for everything that is supposed to happen in the book. If it was a single PoV the distrust and tension would increase dramatically. But maybe im reading for the wrong reasons.

I ultimately feel, that this book, was more of a retelling of the first book, except the names were changed. It failed to get a personality of its own, and too many things were in my opinion copied from the first book, when he first takes a shower for example, when they first had sex, the way he gets turned on etc..

When I was done with the story, you get a little preview of book 3. And honestly, I got a little turned off by it. It seems Luna Gold wants to keep retelling the same story. SPOILERS FOR BOOK 3

Eventho this review might sound more negative, I would still like to read it and hope Luna Gold continues this series. I just hope she manages to pull out the potential that I see in the stories.
