In this thrilling fantasy drama, J.D. Netto dives deeper into the lore behind Immortal Crowns, transporting the reader to a world where gods are sinners, mortals are bait, and faith is a thorn in the flesh.

Love. Lust. Fear. Lies.

The secrets of Bellwound's lineage and lifelong love have led him away from a once quiet life and into the Dark Beyond, the realm where Lucifer and his Fallen Stars were imprisoned. The once sacred land has turned into a luscious prison, riddled with mystery, guarded by the judged goddess Romiria. The arrival of Lucifer's son disrupts an ancient order, stirring chaos in this doomed paradise.

While the Dark Beyond is shaken by Bellwound's presence, Lucifer and his servants plot against mortals and the Creator with an army of Shadows. Bringing with him a chance for vengeance, the seed of darkness also finds his way back to the place where the universe began.

Oriah has returned to his kind, siding with Loghleen in the war to come. Under Lucifer's promise of freedom from an ancient curse, the two are crowned rulers over Nephilins. But no heart is ever truly pure in this war between makers and subjects.

Death is an uninvited guest in this chaos, dooming holy and unholy beings to fight in the world of the living.

The secret romance between Lucifer and Hanell the Creator was just the beginning.

Gods and Mortals
by J.D. Netto
The first book was strange but readable. This was not likable at all. I don't review books I don't finish but I struggled through so I could warn people. Save your money for something else!

it’s rare that a sequel is just as good as the first book. this one was even better!

we continue right where we left off in immortal crowns, following Bellwound and Oriah.

since we got to know the characters in the first book, this sequel focuses on world building. and it made to so enjoyable!

i couldn’t put this down. i just needed to know what was going to happen next. and thank god the author gratified some of our wishes. the ending was everything i wished for and some more. i’m still sad about my baby oriah tho. why 😭😭

I was excited about this book, I really enjoy the author and the story is interesting and hooked me in the first book. Literally the only thing I feel these books could benefit from is a little snarky humor, and that's mostly because I am a big fan of snarky humor in this kind of story.

There were some super steamy scenes which were great, the world building was done well and doesn't punch you in the face and the characters are at least somewhat relatable, if a bit flat? I liked them though, and I was here for the story mostly, and that I got!

I listened to this on audio and the narrator is both relaxing to listen to and nuanced enough to take on all of the parts, I would definitely listen to him again in the future.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for an advanced review copy in exchange for my honest review.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I’m trying to review this book the best I can without leaving any spoilers. Which is difficult because I just want to blab about it!
This is the second book of a trilogy.
This book picked up where the last book left off. You delve deeper into the characters in this book. It begs the question, how far would you go for love? The main character dives into a world which captures your imagination. Immersing in a world of fantasy with dragons, gods, an army of dead, fallen stars and so much more. I enjoyed seeing how Bellwound struggles and felt an almost resentment of his love based of his parental lineage. But also see the strength that love provides. When he seems unsure, it’s as if love stands by and reminds him who he is. I’m such a sucker for a love story and this is such a unique one with an extra steamy scene which was my favorite part of the book.
And just when you think you’ve got it all figured out…another bombshell is dropped. I cannot wait to see where the end of this story brings me in the next book.

The worldbuilding of this sequel is astonishing, especially the descriptions of the locations. It was hard not to feel like I was there with the characters. Another thing I enjoyed was the pacing. For me, it wasn’t too slow or too quick. The surprise at the end wasn’t just unexpected but a great twist leaving me anxious for the next installment.

Story picks up right where book one ends. We learn more about creation, Bellwound search for Arnon, and Oriah’s life. The revelations in the story are unpredictable. The emotions are well written. Was hooked from the very beginning. It does end in a CLIFFHANGER. A must read if you are looking for something different to read.

I did receive an ARC of Gods and Mortals to review, but all my thoughts are my own.

Gods and Mortals is the second book in the Echoes of Fallen Stars series, and picks up right after the events in Immortal Crowns. Here we have our main character Bellwound imprisoned in the dark realm after being completely cut off from the people he once saw as family, now named traitors to their people. Without a sure way of breaking out, he is forced to spend his days reminiscing about his life before he learned of his ancestry and relation to the devil Lucifer.

The war brewing between Lucifer and the Creator Hanell is nearing as Lucifer’s army grows stronger with each sacrifice. Looking death and destruction in the face, Bellwound and his newfound group must now figure out a way to weaken Lucifer and his army in hopes of salvaging the world they know.

JD Netto’s writing is great in the sense that you don’t need to piece the narrative using these unknown abstract terms and yet he still leaves a mystery. All you need to enjoy his novel is a love for fantasy, and a nice relaxing weekend and you’re all set.

Now if I have to be honest, the only part of Gods and Mortals I disagree with is the cliffhanger ending, I don’t know if I can take the suspense anymore😭.
