"I can't stop him being a hero. No-one can. It's who he is"
We are introduced to the unique world of the Hudson Siblings and their Cold Case firm, the Hudson family manages to simultaneously be fractured yet packed with love, they feel broken but are protectors who are driven to help others, frequently risking themselves to offer that help and protection. They are all amazing, yet very different people, but at times you glimpse a flash back in each of them that takes you back to the terrified, heartbroken and lost children that had lost their parents. And that is what drives them, they don't want anyone else to feel the lost, desolate pain of not knowing, not having answers.
Grant struggles with his demons from war and flashbacks, but also with knowing his value within the family unit. Dahlia sees this and even with as broken, frustrated and scared as she is she cannot help but reach out to him. I love them together, they help and support each other in a way nobody else can and it is heartwarming to see in the midst of fear and pain the Truth brings. This is a heart wrenching introduction to the family and the dynamics that wouldn't work for most families, but are perfect for the Hudson siblings. I cannot wait to read more in the series.
