Poseidon's Island Flower: A Greek Mythology Retelling

Rate this book
Poseidon, the God of the Sea, isn't the god that humans believe. He isn't a fearsome god tossing ships around the ocean. He is meek, broken, the timid. After being swallowed by Kronos and remembering the years he spent in darkness, he doesn't think he would be worthy of a mate that the gods that are now being granted.

He was just too much trouble. No female would want a male like him. A female needed someone strong, confident, and a protector. Not a male that could barely take care of himself.

But Lani could be that woman. She's a human caretaker, native to the island of Hawaii. Her brother has gone off to college and has no one to show her love to. Lani becomes lost until she is rescued by a mysterious man that cannot even look her in the eye. She's intrigued by his mannerisms and shyness and finds him utterly sweet.

Will Poseidon take the plunge, or will Lani have to do all the talking?

---------
This is part of a series. This can be read as a stand-alone but to understand other characters and how they intertwine with Poseidon, it is recommended to read at least the second book, Lucifer's Redemption. Gods have been ripped apart of the stereotypical personalities in this series and replaced with something... more.

I would like to reiterate that this a Greek Mythology is a retelling and completely different than the original lore.

Possible an inhuman male appendage, female dominance, male submissive, switches, dirty talk, dark depression, 18+ mature scenarios, but also a sweet romance, fated mates, and instant love.

This was such a sweet story. My heart ache for Poseidon on how he struggled from his past and wasn't able to have affection from others. Lani was a great pair for him since she was more persistent and alpha like personality.

I hope in the future we hear about his creatures and if they found their mates. I'm really hoping Zues book comes soon. I'm excited to see how his mission in finding Candice and his difficulty on getting her near him will work.

I really enjoyed all the others…this one was terrible

*Spoilers*

Firstly, the author seemed to be trying to combine several types of BDSM into one storyline…Age Play, Switch, and normal Sub/Dom…which was really distracting. Secondly, the relationship between the FMC & MMC kept spinning in circles and made it impossible to read this book in one sitting I almost DNF’d. She went from being weak & wishy washy to dominating & control in one paragraph. The final straw was the cruelty of Poseidon toward Zeus in the end. For a character who felt he was used and abused he turned around and did the same thing over something stupid. I probably won’t read anything more from this author. I really enjoyed the first few books from “Under the Moon”, but she’s lost my respect slowly with the subsequent books.

Of the 12 main Gods & Goddesses of the Greek Pantheon, Poseidon is one of my favorites. In this book, he has a very different demeanor than in all of the myths that I have read, which was refreshing. Zeus, in trying to become the God he wants to be now that Hera has left him for Archangel Michael and has kids with him, decides to try and help Poseidon find his mate. Ember, Hades’ mate and Goddess is helping with the finding of mates for the many different peoples of Bergarian and Earth having to do with the supernatural. Poseidon has made many different supernatural creatures in his life, originally working with Athena for the females of those species as he didn’t feel he was competent enough to make them himself. Poseidon also now sees Athena as his therapist as he has gotten extremely shy and can’t handle much stimulation.

Lani lives in Hawaii and works as one of the cleaning ladies for the hotel/resort. Her younger adopted brother, Koma, is going away to college and now it will be just her in the house her parents lived in. They died a long time ago. She has spent so much time taking care of her brother that it is hard for her to let him go. Lani works with her best friend Candice. I shuddered at the descriptions of what they had to clean. Just ewwwww.

Finding that his room has been cleaned and touched by someone even tho he requested it not, Poseidon loses it while Lani is on the beach with some surfers. She gets towed out to see by the undertow. Poseidon saves her. Poseidon’s main friend and creation, Silas is way cool. Zeus is after Candice and vice versa for a while. Candice tries to avoid him and it’s funny. Although Lani sees Poseidon in his mer form, she thinks it’s just from the trauma of almost drowning. Poseidon is known as Cy. So it takes a while, for Lani and Cy to get together and it is cute, romantic and all. Zeus is just himself and you wanna laugh and punch him because he is stupid with Candice. Then once everything is going well for Lani and Cy and all, Zeus does something stupid to make Candice happy and angers Cy enough that he wants revenge. Lol. Revenge was freaking AWESOME and appropriate! I almost peed myself it was sooooo good.

The book was just so much fun to read and had me laughing and rolling around on my bed from it. I squee a few times and we got to see that Koma found him self while away at college. Lol. Candice is awesome and I can’t wait to read her book! Cy also does some awesome stuff for Lani’s friends on the Island. I really enjoyed learning about the culture and food.

Poseidon's Island Flower by Vera Foxx is a captivating and unique retelling of Greek mythology that explores the vulnerabilities and complexities of the God of the Sea, Poseidon. In this installment of the Under the Moon: God Series, Foxx presents a refreshing twist on the traditional portrayal of Poseidon, showcasing a meek and broken god who questions his own worthiness of love and companionship.

The story introduces Lani, a human caretaker from Hawaii, who becomes enamored by the mysterious and shy Poseidon. Despite his self-doubts and perceived flaws, Lani sees past his timid nature and is drawn to his sweetness. The dynamic between Poseidon and Lani is a delicate balance of exploration and discovery, as they navigate the complexities of their connection and the challenges that arise from their differing roles and expectations.

Foxx's writing delves into themes of self-acceptance, vulnerability, and the transformative power of love. Through Poseidon's journey, readers are reminded that true strength lies not in physical prowess, but in embracing one's authentic self. The author skillfully blends romance, mythology, and elements of dominance and submission to create a story that is both steamy and emotionally resonant.

While Poseidon's Island Flower can be enjoyed as a standalone novel, readers are encouraged to delve into the series from the beginning to gain a deeper understanding of the interwoven characters and their relationships. Foxx's reimagining of the gods in this series provides a fresh perspective and a departure from traditional mythological narratives.

It's important to note that this book contains mature content and explores themes of dominance and submission. Foxx handles these themes with care, offering a blend of passion and tenderness that will satisfy fans of romance and mythology alike.

In summary, Poseidon's Island Flower is a compelling and imaginative retelling of Greek mythology that challenges stereotypes and invites readers to explore the vulnerabilities and complexities of its characters. Vera Foxx's unique blend of romance, mythology, and exploration of power dynamics make this book a must-read for fans of steamy and thought-provoking storytelling.

Another great book from this amazing land.

This is a great addition to the amazing world that that Vera Foxx has created with many, many, books, but this is only the 3rd book in the God Series. It was definitely a new dynamic between the male and female leads, with Poseidon being being not just shy, but actually having to use coping mechanisms that would often be used by someone who was on the autism spectrum, or possibly with severe PTSD. With Poseidon we may see a little of both of those things, but we also get to see how Lani changes his perspective on not only life, but himself, and the entire world around him. It was very interesting to see a woman taking charge, and not the normal woman in distress who is saved by the hero. This time she was the hero in some ways, and he was the hero in some ways. I can honestly say that it is the most well balanced book as far as the gender roles go that I have ever read, and I really did enjoy that even though I wasn't sure that I would. It ended up being one of my favorite things about the book. Lani actually acted for once like I would have, and didn't just sit there, waiting for things to be done for her or because she had been told to stay so she was just following instructions. I loved that Lani was confident in her body, and I really loved that she had no qualms with showing Poseidon how to do right by her, no ifs, and, or buts.

I really wanted to like this book, and there were elements of it that I really enjoyed.

Unfortunately, the way that the MMC's character completely changed on a dime sat really strangely with me. I get the whole "saved by the power of looooove" trope, but it seemed like he went from being very reserved to being so confident that it came off as him just being a jerk. The way that he treated Zeus towards the end was super petty, and it felt like he didn't even consider that ALL the FMC wanted was to see her friend, even though her love saved him and she's the main focal point of his entire world. But, y'know, touch her and... he'll take your bestie away so he can get back at his bestie? In a process that will take YEARS. Good talk.

I was drawn to this book because the description mentioned a FMC who took the lead in a spicy sense. The FMC only takes control once, but it's only because the MMC has zero idea what he's doing. There were plenty of spicy scenes, but it didn't seem like there was much of a control dynamic in play at all. She takes the lead in being his emotional maid, but that's about it.

Maybe I'm being a sourpuss, and this book just wasn't for me. I also read this as a one-off, so perhaps reading the rest of the series might've set me up better. Who knows?

This book has all the same problems as the other Vera Foxx novel I read, Lucifer’s Redemption. Mostly bad proofreading and weak dialogue. However, this one has an additional problem—the author attempted to write a neurodivergent character and then created a plot that is all about that character being slowly cured of their neurodivergent behaviors due to the proximity of their fated mate. I don’t think I need to explain how offensive that is. (But I will say that I am AuDHD and the book pissed me off—just to be clear that I’m not white knighting and it’s not just a thought exercise for me.)

The book was longer and more detailed than I expected, and the characters felt more developed. I liked Athena a lot, wished she had given more useful advice as a counterpoint to Ares and Zeus’s terrible advice. I still don’t like Uriel’s innocence shtick or everything to do with Ares and Mariah. The spicy scenes were a mixed bag as well. Overall I thought the book was far from perfect, but not unsalvageable.

Vera Foxx has another winner in the "Under the Moon: God Series". This story introduces Poseidon, whose heart needs healing and Lani is just the person to help him. He is the god of the sea, and she is a human who lives in Hawaii and finds that the ocean brings her peace. It's a perfect match! Poseidon in his human form is Cy, and he saves Lani from drowning. He doesn't feel he is worthy and is reclusive because of his history with the other gods, particularly Zeus who comes through in the end. Lani and "Cy" start a relationship and she falls in love with him, unbeknownst to her as her fated mate.

It's a beautiful story of the healing power of love for both Poseidon and Lani. Vera Foxx's ability to create a story that brings characters to life is wonderful. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

So good!

The Under The Moon: God Series was really good, although I wish they were longer. I blew through all three of them so fast! My favourite character is Lucifer from book two. He is so strong and dominant, but not a beef cake kind of guy. Too bad his mate is so ditsy. I really liked the Under The Moon: The Pack Series too, they're the books that lead up to these ones. I suggest you read them all, it helps explain a lot, and one of the Pack series books is a prequel to one of the God Series books. The only disappointing thing to all these books is the writing. There are issues with sentence structure, grammar, spelling... Not the entire books, just sporadically. It's enough to be a nuisance, but the stories are worth it. I highly recommend the books by this author, she definitely knows how to tell a story! Enjoy!

"I love my life."

Posideon's Island Flower has to be Vera Foxx's most prolific adventure to date. She wove a love story from the depths of an oceanic fantasy and the soft sultry sand of a tropical paradise into a love stories for the ages. Posideon and Lani's strength of spirit shines through every obstacle presented to them; they walk through the trauma of loss, the loneliness of being the one left and the fear that they are simply, not enough. When they discover each other life takes an unexpected turn. Almost tragedy, secrets of gods, goddesses and mates are revealed in a sweet, humorous and respectful becoming one. The last line says it all ... "I love my life!"

Omg! I loved this book! This book was so unlike the others it’s unrated for sure.
Cy was incredible. He’s soft spoken. Deeply hurt and dealing with his own trauma. He’s so worried about his worth that he’s even willing to give up the woman of his dreams. Well that is until he actually meets her and touches her.
Lani is the BA Alpha female we didn’t know we needed. She’s not afraid to ask for what she wants. She’s also soft enough to understand when the moment calls for understanding and compassion. She is everything that Cy needs and he is everything she never knew she needed. It’s a perfect match.

The power of a good mate

Author Vera Foxx has an ability to make characters relatable, the romance make you go awe and amp the spice to ghost pepper status.
I enjoyed the story for the vulnerability factor of wounded man and the absolute fun a fierce woman had breaking down his walls. The amazing fact that each book is a stand-alone with reoccurring favorite characters made it a fun read!

Loved the story. So glad that posieden got his mate and they are so good together. I hope we hear about some of his creatures in later books getting mates and can't wait to hear in future God books about their children! Great read and loved it! Vera did it again, another wonderful book!

It's rare to read about a protagonist who embraces her Dom side, and even rarer to find a Dom who isn't a sadist. It was pleasant to see our main character accepting from the beginning the possibility that her partner might be autistic and being very respectful of his limits while also taking the initiative when necessary. There is a good balance between this all-powerful god and his mortal partner. The versatility between them as the story progresses is entertaining to read.

love love loved this book

I love the different perspective of the man being shy. Most supernatural books. The man is always dominate and I just loved seeing the main character go from being shy to coming into himself and getting god dominance. The book was just so good and again I’m just in awe of Vera foxx writing ! I just love her books. They just get better and better.

Missing something

This story was spicy, but I felt it lacked in the world building. I love a strong FMC, but it seemed like she was always the one taking charge and having to reassure the MMC.

It was a good book. I am glad the ending was different than the other two books. I thought for sure someone would have tried to kill Poseidon’s mate but instead no one did. I am also curious to see if she will write a book about Zeus finding his mate and their love story.
