This is a really lovely entertaining collection of poems by multiple authors that takes me back to my own childhood as this is one of the first poetry books I ever read independently when I was in primary school and I remember this poetry book being read aloud to me in school too which I really enjoyed. I remember particularly liking the poems "My Sister's Eating Porridge," "Granny Goat" and the one about an old dusty mysterious box holding a key to a creepy castle which sounds very much like a song and children would definitely enjoy joining in with it, as I did at that age because when you read it, it has a fast pace that is very lyrical. I also remember a poem about a child who is given so many different food options for a picnic he ends up being so overwhelmed he has no idea what food to choose, but is told to choose quickly and make a choice! I also love all the rhyme and repetition that is present in almost all of the poems as it holds the reader's interest and keeps them engaged, which makes this collection of poems a good choice for when reading aloud to a class, or older children could also read to their class as there are so many poems to choose from to suit all reading abilities and interests.

I highly recommend this book to share with children as they would enjoy the variety of the different poems in the book and would be able to pick them up easily and join in with the poetry telling as there are lots of different themes ranging from food to families, toys and friendship and the poems are very rhythmic and funny. This book would also be good to use for drama as the characters in the poems could be played by children which I am sure most children would enjoy doing in school. The poems also range in length, and there is one to suit any time of the day as you can easily pick a long or a shorter one, which is especially good for younger children if they are being introduced to poetry for the first time and they won't get bored. All of the poems are also very light even if they are longer or shorter and none of them are serious which makes this a good poetry book to choose to read for fun. The pictures are also very bright and colourful on every page which helps the reader visualise the poem that is being read. I am sure children would quickly find their own favourite poems in this book just like I did as a child and once they know them, they would love to hear them being read time and again!

I had this book as a child and I absolutely loved it! It is a collection of absolutely random and ridiculous rhymes and poems. It is incredibly funny and an inspiring way for children to enjoy poetry. My favourites are 'The sandwich' by Tony Bradman, 'This is the key to the castle' by Dave Calder, and 'Danger game' by John Walsh.
