Meet Mary Albert, daughter of a rich and powerful duke. With her neat silver ringlets and impeccable manners, she’s the perfect young lady. But Mary harbors an unusual ambition—her own downfall!
On the day of her school entrance ceremony, Mary realizes she’s living in an otome game she played in her past life. Not only that, but she’s the villainess who’s destined to torment the heroine, be cast out of noble society, and end her story in ruin. Most would do anything to avoid such a miserable fate, but not Mary! She cheerfully dives into the wicked role she was born to play, setting a course for catastrophe and dragging along her exasperated servant, Adi. He grudgingly assists in her schemes despite his sardonic misgivings about this whole past life business.
However, not all goes to plan. Despite her best efforts to bully and harass the gentle heroine, Alicia seems blind to Mary’s intentions, even coming to see her as a friend. What must our villainess do to achieve her dreams of doom?!
Mary, Mary, quite contrary, how does your reincarnation go? Moderately well, thanks - Mary Albert, unlike other reincarnated villainesses, decides that she'll just go with the flow, get banished, and live out her life elsewhere. But apparently she hasn't been keeping up with the genre, because exactly nothing goes according to her plans in a story that is perhaps best described as "no bad deed gets punished.*"
I really do enjoy the banter between characters and this series. I was originally introduced through the manga, and the cliffhanger of the most recent volume of the manga had me practically pulling my hair out so I decided to finally start reading the light novels. I was not disappointed, it is a fantastic read! There wasn't too much that's strayed between the manga and the light novel but there was definitely a little bit more in the light novel and there were some adjustments and very minor details to make the manga streamline a little better. Overall, definitely worth the time to read. I'm going on to the next volume now, I wonder how many volumes it'll take for me to catch up with the manga and if I'll successfully get some new content? In any case, I'll continue to be reading these!
Good idea, poorly executed. The story doesn't take the time to flesh out the characters and its world, just skips from turning point to turning point of the game. It's a far cry from what I expected and hoped for. This book could have been so much, but falls flat on every point. Struggled through the chapters clinging onto a faint hope it would get better and actually live up to its potential... unfortunately improvements were nihil. Final judgement: entertaining, but disappointing. The book is saved from becoming an absolute disaster thanks to Adi's hard work.
OMG this book was so funny! (Those drills! LOL) I also love her servant’s true love for her that comes out in one of his lines of dialogue. Probably one of the funniest light novels I’ve read this year.
A teenage lady at what is basically high school vaguely remembers a previous life in which she played an otome game and now she is reborn as the game's villainess. There are some difference between the game and her own personality, but who cares? Being banished is actually a good thing for her family since they are getting too powerful anyway, so why not try and work towards that ending? Except, she is her own worse enemy in this regards.
Young Lady Albert Is Courting Disaster is a fairly typical story for the genre. It is told from a first person view for the most part and written well enough. The world is that of a quasi-medieval European setting without magic. The characters are likeable, especially the interaction between the MC and her manservant were entertaining. Having said, nothing very much happens even for a slice-of-life it remains rather tame, and there is little that sets it apart from other stories of its genre.
