Concluding a long arc that started about two or three volumes ago with some poor buisness/trading decisions that only look bad after they've been made. What was once sound choices are made bad due to changing political climates that the protagonists had no idea prior to. So, now Spice & Wolf scramble to pay off debts.

Looking back at the three or so volumes, there's a nice developing theme of not being made to suffer the rest of our lives for one buisness or monetary mistake. At first, this is mentioned to Lawrence ("Spice", the merchant), by someone who he goes to for help via loans. Much later on, after many other problems and betrayals, Lawrence then proves the better man, using the truth of what was said if not follwed, to not persue revenge on the company who double crossed him and Holo ("wolf"). First, revenge does them no good, it would ruin their future reputation by running away with the profits leaving debts unpaid. And second, this shows how truly good a man Larewnce ends up being, all said and done.

This volume also furthers the romance angle I think, definitely seen in the last chatper and the bonus chapters.

Spectacular as always. This volume concludes the current bankruptcy storyline which also lines up with the finale to the first season of the original anime and the second volume of the novels. The fight in the rain is easily one of my favorite scenes in the series so far but what I truly enjoyed the most from this volume was the bonus chapter.

Seeing Holo and needing to depend fully on Lawrence is very entertaining. It also shows us that any animosity she had towards Norah was almost entirely jealousy. A sweet way to end the current story.
Can't wait for the next volume.

Having a plan to get themselves out of yet another situation, it seems the duo might have another problem to deal with. It seems for the most part, the series gong along with Holo and Lawrence as they travel from town to town, trying out a scheme. Along the way, they meet people, some good or not. Also that cover. Good volume.

So this was a pretty action packed volume that wrapped up the next arc of our story. I really liked Norah and I would love to have her appear in more of the story, but I'm not sure she will with the way this volume was wrapped up.
I love that Holo and Lawrence's relationship is still growing and they are still learning about each other and growing themselves.
This was a good volume. I can't wait to continue through.

This volume had a lot of action in it and Holo in her wolf form which was awesome. Norah gets her story conclusion and Lawrence solves his predicament and is ready to move on in his travels.

It's more than a bit unflattering to the genius of Spice and Wolf to revisit the franchise in one short volume over a year after watching the original series. Even after reviewing the last three episodes of the show, it was hard for me to get back into the flow of the plot. Fortunately, Volume 6 doesn't advance the plot at all: Lawrence and Holo are merely traveling from one place to another. The acquisition of Tote Col, and itinerant waif, is essentially the only plot point of interest in the whole book.

Of course that doesn't really make much difference with a series like Spice and Wolf. Since I watched the show, I've spent a lot more time thinking about character creation, relationships, and the value of narrative storytelling in general. Reading volume 6 really helped me figure out what it is about the series that I find so unique and valuable: the careful maintenance of the playful and ambiguous tension between Lawrence and Holo.

The premise goes a long way in veiling Holo's intentions. In most of her day-to-day desires and interactions with Lawrence, Holo resembles a capricious and self-centered teenage girl—she likes strong liquor, sweets, and flirting. Yet throughout the banter that makes up the core of the series, which we see primarily through Lawrence's perspective, Holo reveals that this façade is only a persona she assumes to lure Lawrence into conversational missteps over which she can remonstrate him and leverage to gain her way.

The tension inherent in this formula should easily have collapsed long ago. Holo, as a wisewolf deity, should have little trouble achieving her goals alone; from this we know that she reciprocates, to some extent, Lawrence's romantic feelings. Her true desires remain complex and obscure, perhaps even to her. Lawrence, for his part, retains his poise astonishingly well given the constant romantic teasing he endures from the woman he loves. In Lawrence, we experience the excitement of throwing caution to the wind to pursue a romance, alongisde the doubt of knowing the romance is never likely to be fulfilled. Beyond the joy of the tantalizingly ambiguous back and forth, this is perhaps the central strength of Spice and Wolf. Having experienced a prolonged unrequited romance with my own best friend, I'm consistently impressed that Hasekura is able to express such a complex and unique relationship.

holo runs off into the woods to talk to the wolves while norah and the man from the company heads to the city. holo talks to Lawrence and told him to make a fire and keeps her cloths dry instead of her ruining them when she turns into a wolf. Lawrence agrees and goes to wait for her. after a while he goes and looks for holo but he encounters guards from the company who there trying to smuggle for. they tie him up and leave him for the wolves he escapes and finds holo. holo then turns back into wolf form and lets Lawrence gets on her back and they charge to norahs rescue. they end up saving her but they want revenge so they go to the head of the company and starts negotiations. they end up making a contract. while all three of them are out celebrating holo collapses falling ill. when she gets a little bit better they had to leave so now Lawrence and holo are riding to the next town while holo is ill.

I just HAD to read this volume to see how the rest of the storyline from volume 5 played out, and it ended up being a good place to stop reading the series since it's not entirely out yet.

I did enjoy this volume, especially because we got to see Holo in her bad ass wolf form again. I don't really have much praise for this series as a whole. It is an okay series. It's definitely different than anything I've read before. The characters are fun and the general story idea is okay. I enjoyed it. Not sure if I'll go back once all the volumes are out to re-read and finish, but it was entertaining while I was reading it.

Holo in her wolf-form certainly rains havoc on those that would betray Lawrence, Holo & Norah. It's nice to see her in her true form for so much of the book ~ and to see Lawrence finagle a nice little profit for a change.

This book wraps up where Volume 2 of the light novels ends before diving into The Melancholy of the Wolf and Amber - Holo's battle with her feelings for Lawrence and how they're complicated by Norah's presence, all while the poor, little Wisewolf is laid up in bed, suffering (not so stoically) from an apparently severe illness.

A thrilling installment where Holo really shows her bite in helping save Kraft and his friends from wolves and double crossers. We also see how she is developing feelings for the foolish merchant.
