Rate this book
A startling new vision starring Disney’s greatest villain, set within the world of The Lion King! Eisner and Ringo Award-winning author Chuck Brown (Bitter Root) and stunning artist Trevor Fraley tell a tale of fire and fury, centered on an enraged Scar, unable to accept that he will never be king — not so long as long as Mufasa and his new son inhabit Pride Rock. A plan is starting to formulate within Scar’s corrupt mind, which will bring him face-to-face with the mysterious shaman, Rafiki… This series debuts with a special, 27-page story at the regular cover price of just $3.99!

Look, I love Scar as a villain but I just don't think there's enough substance (that wasn't already in the movie) to make a comic series about him.

It'll be interesting to see how they utilise new characters and dig a little deeper into the darker side, but so far I'm not seeing anything special.

Artwork is fine. Very much as expected, so again, nothing really special.

Underwhelming, but I'll give it another issue before I boot it.

Very interesting, really dig the art. Just curious to see what is added to the story and how the new character introductions adjust Scar's presently known story. Super excited to continue reading this series and the next Disney Villain series to come.

You can tell that the writers and artists for this comic, as opposed to Maleficent, have loved this story before being tasked with adding to it and care about the story they're telling. It makes a difference. I'm not fully sure how this is going. But I appreciate the work going into it.

How did you get that Scar...

I wasn't sure what I expected from this initial issue. What I got was a lot of curiosity and a need for issue #2. While Scar is not my favorite villain or favorite character from the Lion King, Jeremy Irons did an amazing job and it's hard not to read this without hearing him. This series on Scar gives the reader insight on Scar and his plot in the Lion King. This first issue was like "Whoa! Interesting...". Definitely recommend to Disney and non-Disney fans that need a break from whatever event is going on with Marvel and DC.

Dynamite has the cover game on point! I would have loved this issue more if there wasn't the addition of two silly elements. 1) Mufasa and Rafiki smack Scar across the face three times total. My boy Scar shoulda flashed claws after one! 2) Wasted pages on unexciting art.

I'll check out issue 2 for sure though!

A very interesting start! I like the art; I'm going to let the story progress before I form any concrete opinions about it. I also like that this adds very new elements to the original story. I'm going to be continuing with this series.

As a big Disney fan, my curiosity is officially piqued.

Scar is one of my fave Disney villains. Happy to have back stories of him. I really loved the art. Way to short but looking foward to the rest of the serie and to see more familiar The lion King characters and to learn more about other characters of the Pridelands and Outlands.

Pretty good first issue. Solid story telling. Neat visuals. Was cool to see Rafiki and Scar's interactions. Look forward to reading issue 2. Not subscribe worthy just yet.

So this is a good start to really see inside scar and it is based during the movie I'm guessing will fill in the missing montage years.

Simply atrocious. Disney bring shame to the name of Walt and I dread their next movie in The Lion King verse.

I haven't followed Disney much in recent years, aside from the Marvel Studios stuff, but this was a good book. The art was very good.

My favourite Disney villain with his own series. It's great to see Scar back as he skittles be, plotting to dethrone Simba.

The art is spectacular, however when the story was about to get really into it...it ends abruptly and need to get book 2 to continue . I honestly dont like that part of the comic.

This is actually pretty interesting because it shows his side. Of course lmao. But it's cool seeing stuff we didn't see nor know from the movie.

Interesting to see this backstory added to the Disney canon. The writing wasn’t my favorite, thought it could have been stronger. The art was fantastic. Fraley knows how to illustrate and have a story progress from panel to panel. Interested to see more of his work.

......

I like to read comics just to keep me busy and to read something, otherwise I might just lay on the floor like a stranded whale in this heat.
Anyways,
The way I see it is that this comic tells us Scar's side of the story, the who's and what's that made him the villain we know and love to hate (the one we know from the Disney movie). I am curious to see where it will lead us and to see if he get's an redemption arc or if there is more here than what we know, It can't be just jealousy and greed, can it?
I liked Scar for the character he is and though he can use some more depth and background, I like him for the villain whom killed his brother and tried to kill his nephew.
So we will see where this comic will take us.
