If Untamed by Glennon Doyle lit your soul on fire, you will love She Who Wins.
If these past years have taught us anything, it's that so many women are stuck―stuck in jobs they despise, marriages that are joyless, roles they didn't ask for, and even in their own heads. The pandemic shook our world and now as we emerge from the cover of COVID, going back to "normal" seems insufferable.
If there was ever an opportunity to shake things up, it's now. Through the pages of SHE WHO WINS, Renee Bauer breaks down some uncomfortable truths about the things holding us back from truly winning in life. Because if we can survive a pandemic, homeschooling, loss of income, and even a toilet paper shortage don't we deserve to win?
Using her over two decades as an award-winning divorce attorney and entrepreneur, Renee Bauer shares her own vulnerable stories of divorce, failure, and ultimately, reinvention, to embolden, empower, and inspire women to choose the path most uncomfortable. This self-empowerment and motivational book is equal parts mindset and strategy, that can catapult women's lives from flatlined to fabulous by leaning into doing the hard thing.
“I’ve always colored in the lines, followed the rules, held my strong opinions, and smiled every step of the way.”
Author Renee Bauer did everything a “good girl” is expected to do. She joined the Honor Society, got good grades, went to college, got a degree in law, married and had a baby. When it all came crashing down around her, Renee Bauer had to learn how to pick herself up and figure out how everything went so wrong.
If you’re like me, you know the anxiety of feeling like you always have to be perfect, never make mistakes and always have your stuff together. I’m closer to 40 than I am 30 now, and like Renee Bauer, I found my thirties to be an era of reckoning.
No, I’m not going to quietly sit by and let life pass on. No, I’m not going to be perfect and accept that sometimes I suck. And, NO, I am not going to smile because the random guy in the grocery store tells me too. I can not tell you how much I dislike this man and I don’t even know him. If I’m not smiling it’s because I don’t want to and maybe I don’t have anything to smile about.
She Who Wins by Renee Bauer is a guide to taking your life back and finding your inner strength and resilience. Told through life lessons, practical guides and personal stories, author Renee Bauer shows how to ditch your “inner good girl” to be the woman you were always meant to be!
Thank you to the author for gifting me a signed copy.
Very easy read and an empowering one at that. I’m usually not one for non-fiction or self help books, but this one might’ve changed my mind. In a slump? Read this book. It tells you how to take action over your own life even if it feels like everything is going against you. Nice to know you’re not going through life alone. Want to know how to win in life? Read this book!
I really want to rate this higher. Unfortunately, this book wasn't written for me. I simultaneously felt like I am too young and too old for every message in it. Women who still feel a stigma around divorces and such may gain more new information here than I did. I feel like my generation is mostly over that. At the same time, most of the topics were pretty generic, and I often found myself reading the same sentences again and again, just written slightly different on another page. There was no deep diving into any issue. Someone struggles with perfectionism? "Just remember: nobody is perfect." That's great, but also not at all helpful. Most of the advice in this book is pretty well known. And again, (mostly) not helpful.
The introduction started pretty strong and I was hyped to read further. However, that feeling was lost pretty fast, as was my interest. I still kept reading to see if I found something I liked. I did. I really liked the chapter about relationships and how to realise you're in a relationship that makes you unhappy. If the book was only about that topic, I think I'd like it a lot more. The author had some really good and strong ideas here. I liked the bits where she spoke about her journey as a divorce lawyer, about some of the challenges. And I liked the chapter about her dog. Sadly, that was about it. If the advice was cut from the book, the slight victim blaming here and there and the motivational tumblr quotes, and if it would've been a lot more about her own journey, without trying to make me relate to it, it would've been an easy four star read. As a self-help book, however, I did not enjoy it.
What can I say about this really well written book to give it all it deserves
This is a book that covers self reflection, self esteem, awareness, identity crisis, self confidence and others and I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to get ahead but is unsure of where to start
It’s a book that’s simple, straight forward and realistically written It’s a book that for me resonated with me so much that I felt I had just found a mentor through it
Every chapter ripped me off of every layer I was hiding under and left me with new resolutions,
It’s a book that inspires you to take action A book that makes dares you to dream, Dares you to get going and lastly Dares you to Win
Thanks NetGalley for giving an Arc copy in exchange of an honest review
I'm not a she. I'm a he. But even with that said, I feel that anybody who reads this book will win at life. It's greatly inspirational, and it contains so many great insights that I even took notes in the margins, which I haven't done since college! This is a wonderful book for anybody and I highly recommend it.
“I’ve always believed the book I need finds me when I need it most. Over the years, I’ve had many books that sit endlessly in “to be read” piles, only for me to pick them up exactly when I needed the message in their pages. I hope this book found you when you needed it too.”
This book came into my life when I needed it the most. I can't even express how grateful I am for that.
She Who Dares is an absolute must-read for every woman out there, no matter where you find yourself on this crazy journey we call life. It's like a manual, a playbook, showing you exactly how to embrace your power, authenticity, and fearlessness.
Renee's approach to living fiercely is not rocket science. You don't need a PhD to grasp it. But her insights on guilt, shame, fear, burnout, and all those heavy burdens we carry... They hit me like a ton of bricks, or should I say they shook me to my core. It's not about reinventing the wheel here, but the delivery is so brutally honest, so straightforward, yet it's filled with empathy and understanding. It's like nothing else I've ever come across.
Of course, you shouldn’t expect to crack open this book and find all the answers to the mysteries of the universe. It's not some magical potion that will solve everything. However, brace yourself for a wild ride of emotions. Get ready to laugh, cry, let out a big sigh, and fervently nod your head as you see yourself mirrored in those pages. I've highlighted so many sections and scribbled countless notes in my first read. I just know I'll have to devour it at least twice more to squeeze out every last drop of wisdom.
If you're part of a women's book club, this book is tailor-made for you. You'll have endless discussions, debates, and aha moments. I'm going to buy copies for every woman in my life, and you know what? I'll grab a physical copy for myself too. I can already see myself revisiting it time and time again, especially when life throws those inevitable curveballs our way.
Renee, my heartfelt thanks to you. Thank you for pouring your heart and soul into this book. Thank you for sharing your stories, your experiences. Your words have given me a glimpse of myself in someone else's shoes. And that is priceless. Now I can finally grasp what I need to do to break free from being stuck. This book found me at the perfect moment, and I'm beyond ecstatic that it did because it has ignited a fire within me. It has given me a roadmap to follow as I take stop, drop and roll into a brand new chapter of my life.
Renée Bauer packs a punch with this incredibly women empowering novel. You will feel recharged and ready to take on any obstacle, and really WIN at your own life. Who says we can't have it all?
Wait a minute; a motivational book for women written by a divorce lawyer? Not some life coach or thought leader? Yes, it’s true! “She Who Wins” by Renée Bauer is a no-holds-barred and no-BS guide for women teetering between an unhappy life and an opportunity to create change for the kind of life they want. With her own stories of experiences that ultimately molded her into the fierce, fearless, take-charge woman that she is today, “She Who Wins: Ditch Your Inner ‘Good Girl,’ Overcome Uncertainty and Win at Your Life” will strengthen female readers and give them that nudge forward to go after what they want.
But you know what? Renée Bauer does not need to be that life coach or thought leader to give it to you straight and speak with authority on how to win at life. She is already someone who has lost so many times — at love, work, parenting, and even life — but all those dark moments were learning experiences. Those dark moments that drove her to her knees empowered her enough to stand back on her feet and charge ahead a little stronger and wiser. She is brave to share these stories in her book, and they are all meant to show that they all helped make her the woman she is today.
Now she has written this book to help other women to be strong, fierce, and winning women, too. She has had so much success in helping other women tackle the rough patches in life that she has come to be known as the “She Who Wins” woman who can help other women win too.
I love how she talks about how we must be fierce and stubborn in the face of rejection. And I could relate to her rejection experience with literary agents. I’m glad she never gave up, though, because her book is just amazing. She reminds readers that rejection is just a part of the process and not the end of the story.
I also loved how she destroys the notion that women need to be quiet and not share about themselves, their business, their projects, etc. with the world. She tackles the conditioning that good girls are supposed to be quiet, not talk about themselves, and not promote the things that they are involved with. A woman who wins does not abide by such thinking! A woman who wins shamelessly puts herself out there and shouts about things from the rooftops! This is the kind of mindset, the kind of attitude, and the kind of belief the author encourages women to live by. And this reader absolutely agrees! As she tells her readers,
It’s time for you and me to change this script.
There is just so much that I love about this book. It is brimming with motivational quotes, and here are a couple of my favorites:
A warrior doesn’t retreat. She runs headfirst into battle.
She Who Wins has the courage to take bold steps, to love deeply, to rise when she has fallen, and to live unapologetically.
There are tons more that readers can carry with them after reading this book. The quotes serve as highlights of many of the stories the author has shared in this book.
The chapters in this book are definitely inspirational—and the chapter about Tig made me cry! This book is just so good that I want to encourage EVERY woman out there to read it. The author writes about how books tend to find us at the time we need them. I really think this book came into my life at a good time, when I’m at a crossroads about so many things in life, and it can definitely help in guiding the choices that I make in those areas. I feel it would also help other women in a similar situation. You don’t need to be down on your luck, at rock bottom, or even fully satisfied in life to “need” this book or benefit from it. I truly feel that this book would benefit a female reader at any stage in their life.
“She Who Wins” is not your average motivational book, because it’s the kind of book written by someone who has been at rock bottom and fought like heck to get back on her feet again. In the process, she learned a ton of valuable life lessons which she shares in this book, and they are all important life lessons that will empower and guide any woman who wants to be the kind of woman who wins at life. Taking a cue from the author’s own above quote, I’d like to add that She Who Wins reads the book, “She Who Wins” by Renee Bauer, and walks away from it stronger and with a fierceness that can never be destroyed.
Really enjoyable “self help” read. So many excellent points and stories that stick with you. The stop, drop, and roll analogy is very powerful and memorable.
I have read several self-help books, but none have resonated with me like SHE WHO WINS. Valuable lessons are taught through personal anecdotes, which often had me laughing out loud. I love the soundbites at the end of each chapter which highlight the major lessons in that chapter. I was in the midst of my own pity party when this book arrived and I devoured it in two days. My party ended and I am already starting to take steps to win in my life. I feel more empowered than ever and will be leaving my comfort zone tonight and taking myself out for a fancy dinner to get a taste of dining alone. Just me and my lobster. I highly recommend this book to women of all ages who feel stuck in their stuff and are ready to win at life.
This book is a must read for anyone looking to jolt to get the dream started that you been putting off for every excuse you could find. It’s for anyone that feels stuck in a situations that no longer serve them. The author is vulnerable, raw, and transparent about her journey thru what she called “the messy”. This book found me right when I needed it. Time to start my journey to being a business owner. Thank you Renee for inspiring me to win!
In one word: EMPOWERING. Throughout this book I laughed, I cried (watch out for Chapter 11, it'll get ya!) and I found myself nodding my head in agreement for nearly the whole thing. If you're feeling stuck in your life and need a kick in the butt to go out and be the best version of you—without feeling bad about it, this is it. I know I'll come back to this one again and again!
This book is a must-read for all women! The author shares both sage advice and vulnerable, personal stories that will help you reflect on own life, no matter what stage you’re at or path you’re on. We all have a unique fire inside of us, and She Who Wins is like the match we all need to ignite it and move forward fearlessly.
I have never read the intro to a book I resonated better with than this! I have always known I am really good at assessing my issues and desires but not actioning. This book makes you feel like how you feel is normal and also helps you figure out how to make changes!
I cannot put into words how much this book spoke to me and those around me. I’m fortunate to live near Renee and had her attend my book club. Her authenticity and ability to connect to everyone thru her book and in person is immense
The way she shared her stories, advice, and wisdom showed how she coaches and persuades you to improve and overcome challenges in life. She inspires you to be a better person, who has a good character and heart.
This book really resonated with me during my journey of self discovery. I was most definitely a good girl and am working to break the habits and become the best, truest version of myself that I can. Thank you for all of the stories, inspiration, and encouragement picked into this book, Renee!
I absolutely loved this book and the nuggets of wisdom that Renee shares in engaging the reader. Highly recommend this read if you are doubting yourself or fearful in making the life changes that you know are right for you.
Me gustó mucho. No estoy demasiado acostumbrada a libros de autoayuda pero la forma en la que este está planteado hizo que me apegue mucho a la lectura. Y el hecho de que le haya dedicado un capítulo a su perrito con un dibujo incluído me rompió el corazón.
Whether you have put miles in or are just getting moving on your journey to your best self She Who Wins will leave you feeling extra alive. It’s a bridge from timeless spiritual concepts into relatable and practical action points. Renee’s candor and sense of humor keep it fun and achievable while simultaneously inspiring! It gave me the gift of revived courage and fierceness that I can continue to carry forward.
I loved this book! It was a nice reminder to stop making excuses for myself and make some necessary changes in my life. I will definitely be reading it again.
I've been telling myself almost everything Renee Bauer has said in this book for years, and I haven't made any changes lol. But that's my fault not hers.
Absolutely LOVE! A book full of advice you’d get from that friend with out a filter- but not the kind of “advice” that tells you what to do, the kind that makes you realize you’ve actually had the answers the whole time and just needed the courage/kick in the a** to what you need to do!
I know ill be going back to certain chapters many times throughout my journey of ditching the good girl routine. 10/10 recommend 👏
Entering my ✨ Unapologetic Era ✨ thanks to Renee & She Who Wins
I got to read an advanced reader copy and couldn’t put it down. This is a different kind of personal development book. The author uses storytelling to teach and I even shed a tear. One chapter hit me extra hard. If you want to be inspired to take on your life’s challenges, this is the book for you.
