Ughhhhhh idk what happened…. Book 1 was so good and then this one just fell flat. I feel like the plot just dragged out and nothing new actually happened. Also too much confusing philosophy talk. Kallum I’m still obsessed with you but like not enough to go on to book 3 at the moment.

After the way things were left in the previous book, I needed this like my next breath, diving into this was like I was able to breathe again. Back to the killing field we went in the hopes that these two would unearth Harbinger Killer and discover where the missing were. But what in the actual hell did I just read?!? My brain can't comprehend the words that I'd just read, that very last chapter sent me in a tailspin..Like really!! I did not see that coming!!
Other than a wee glimpse into Kallum Locke's past at the beginning of this it jumps right into things which were left up in the air in the previous book Lovely Bad Things. But don't get too excited because things still aren't so cut and dry in this book. There's still many questions unanswered. Theories left as they were. Dead ends left hanging. Jaws left open. Disbelief at how this story panned out.
I loved getting pulled under Kallum's spell again, a little bit unhinged seems to be the norm now!! Trisha definitely keeps you on your toes, the uncanny knack she has which pulls us readers in, following her down a path of unexpected twists and turns.

Forming a coherent review for this one has been hard. I didn't love this or hate it. I had my ideas about who the Overman was, but damn I was so wrong.
Halen's past is revealed, but now I have more questions than before? I will admit this was still confusing for me. Like wtf is going on? Am I dumb and just don't get it? I'm not sure 😂 The philosophy rambling was not as bad in book 2. I definitely like these characters, but can I just get a straight answer to ONE question? 🤦🏻♀️

Didn't think it was possible to love it more than the first book, but I FLEW through book two! I was eating up the romance and dying to know who was doing the crimes!

Firstly, I LOVED lovely bad things (book 1) I found it much easier to follow than this one
These books, are so heavy on philosophy, psychology and rituals, ascension etc that sometimes all the terminology looses me which isn’t Trisha’s fault she’s clearly immensely clever and this series is SO well written but trying to understand it all was throwing me out of the plot sometimes 😅 but in book 2 I felt like all the philosophical talk was over powering the actual storyline itself but then the ending was really good! The twists in this series are insane!!

I don't know if I am even happier than before since Trisha said on her Instagram that this is going to be a trilogy or even more upset that I WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR 2 BOOKS NOW.

This is a really good series, I just feel too confused as I read it. This is the second book in the series and it’s a serial killer mystery with lots of criminal profiling and a romance that has a Hannibal & Clarice vibe.
I gave this one 3 stars, but I think I’m the problem.
So much of this case, the history, the language, the rituals, etc. just go right over my head so I’m starting to get bored with it. There’s just too much going on for me right now.
Also I think I would have caught more if I read myself, but I’ve been doing the audio so I have something to listen to while I work and do housework. The audio is fantastic but I think a dual read and listening experience or reading them yourself would be better for this story.
I’d still recommend trying this series though if it interests you.

In this book we get more answers, more spice, and a whole lot more questions. I just know that Lovely Wicked Things is going to be fabulous and is going to make me gasp.
Just when I think I couldn't be more in love with the MMC in this series, I am proven wrong. These books just keep getting better and better!!! I'm still mad at myself for not picking it up sooner, but here we are now and I am going DIRECTLY into the third and final book.
Trisha, you did amazing sweetie. I'm predicting that these will be in my favorites list for 2024.

This is why I need to stop reading romance sequels - they always just let me down lol
this book just felt SO pointless. It felt like it completely nullified the first book and made everything that happened in it not matter - at the beginning of this we are literally back at square one. I felt like this book just did the same things that book 1 over again and I was so bored.
I really love the characters in this but yeah, not a fan of what it was

Jan 7/23: I am so obsessed with Hollow's Row! I re-read this book in a single day via audiobook to prepare for Lovely Wicked Things, and I loved it just as much as the first time. Trisha's brilliance astounds me and I am so excited to see how she concludes this incredible series!
Original review: Lovely Violent Things by Trisha Wolfe is absolutely insane in the most beautiful, brilliant and calculated way. It is the second instalment of Wolfe’s Hollow’s Row trilogy, — because "everything that comes in threes is perfect in its entirety", according to Kallum — a brilliant and poetic dark psychological thriller romance steeped in philosophical history and questionings. This series has been my introduction to Wolfe’s writing, and I am so weak for her beautiful words.
Please note that you absolutely cannot read these books out of order, as they build on one another. You have to start with Lovely Bad Things.
Potential triggers: occult practices, cannibalism, serial murder, violence, gore and body horror, sexual assault, PTSD, grief and loss, explicit sexual content.
Lovely Violent Things begins right where Lovely Bad Things ended, save for a brief flashback from Kallum. We are brought back to the killing fields in Hollow’s Row, with Halen searching for answers to cases unsolved with missing victims’ lives on the line, and Kallum drawing ever nearer like a moth to a flame. I won’t say much more to avoid spoilers for either book, but what ensues is a gripping and twisted investigation paired with a passionate and all-consuming romance. I could not put this book down!
Kallum Locke — professor, philosophy fanatic, the “bad boy of academia” — had me in a chokehold through this entire book. He brought out the feral sapiosexual in me. His brilliance. His calculated behaviour to move toward his own goals. His unwavering conviction to his own philosophical beliefs. His absolute obsession with his muse and willingness to do whatever it takes to keep her within reach. The way he exercises such patience and restraint around Halen, while also testing her boundaries and pushing her toward her own enlightenment… *swoon*. I am obsessed.
This is a definite slow burn, but one that leads to total combustion. No one writes romantic chemistry, sexual tension and spice quite like Wolfe. I could feel the crackles in the air between these two characters, their charged connection so palpable, frantic and raw. This book had me questioning if Kallum and Halen are both insane, or if their truly is something more to to these esoteric beliefs and practices. And then I came to realize how little it mattered — because whatever exists between them is darkly beautiful and alchemic all the same.
I ended this book with the devastating realization that little would compare to the prose within these pages (save for Wolfe's backlist, perhaps). Desperate for more and not quite ready to let go of Kallum and Halen. It put me into one of the biggest readings slumps I’ve ever had, and for a book of only 300 pages, that is quite the feat.
In terms of the overarching plot, this book answers some questions and gives rise to others. Wolfe gives us some of the sweetest, loveliest and violent breadcrumbs in this book, very clearly lining the path toward what I can only assume will be an epic conclusion to this trilogy.
This book was 100% worth the wait, in my opinion. Wolfe does not hold back in her writing, and she does not cut corners or water anything down. The amount of research that must have gone into this book for the philosophy elements alone, is insane, not to mention the criminology aspects, and the craft of writing like a poet and plotting like a mastermind. I bow to her, and I will happily devour her backlist while I patiently wait for Lovely Wicked Things. You can’t rush art, and I’ll wait as long as it takes.

Wow. This was something. I’m gonna be honest…Trisha Wolfe books aren’t for the weak. They’re more plot focused and not something you just read for fun. This shit is making my head throb but MY GOD if it isn’t good! I have so many questions despite some answers being given already and I’m really looking forward to devouring the last and final book🤭

More twists and turns
And the philosophical aspects made me 😵💫 unfortunately lol… but I still found glued to the pages 👀
This continues from where book 1 left off, as we get more revelations as it progresses. There are questions as to who the Harbinger Killer is and how Callum and Halen can connect the dots. This ends on a cliffy, again, that had me 😱. Guess I need to read the next one to find out how it all ends 👀.
I also love that this is duet narration and is available in Hoopla 👏🏻.
What I liked/loved:
—the tension 👀. These two fill up a room full of tension as soon as they’re in the same space 👀. They really just can’t help but be drawn to each other
—the 🔥. Ooofff 💦. We don’t get many scenes, but the ones we get are 🥵. I love that Callum can’t get enough of Halen, especially her taste 🫠. The first 🔥 scene happens at about 50% ish (only self touch here) followed by a 🔥 office scene at about 55% and full 🔥 by 80% ish
—the mouth on Callum 🫠 Lordt. Have mercy 😮💨
—how obsessed he is 👏🏻. Love me a man that only has eyes for his woman, one he’ll do anything for ❤️
—the twists and turns 👀. I found myself GASPING at what was being revealed 😱. Once we went over one turn, another one was revealed, and the way it ended 😳

My Mind is BLOWN.
The darkness of this story grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let me look away.
We get answers to a lot of the questions we were left with in book #1. But we're left with some other disturbing things to think about.
The sex scenes are graphic and definitely Dark Erotica. Kallum is definitely twisted but so is Halen. Trust me when I say even the sex scenes between them is TWISTED. Hot? Yes. But VERY Twisted.
I definitely need a break before I read #3.
I should never doubt this author to bring me a Spectacular Dark & Twisted romance filled with Insanity. I love her work. I definitely recommend her crazy stories to those of us who can handle it.

I am so obsessed with Kallum Locke it isn't even funny. I was so excited to get back into the Hollow's Row series that I could not jump on this book fast enough. I loved the connection between Kallum and Hale and how intertwined they are. This story was full of secrets and revelations and I could not get enough! Now I need more! 5 stars! ~Ratula

I literally had butterflies in my stomach whenever kallum opened his mouth. I can't express through words about the chills and vibes I got from this book. It was just out of the world.

4.5 stars this book was so good I couldn’t put it down! Kallum Locke is the perfect combination of sexy, brilliant and insane. The way he talks about Halen is poetry. There were so many twist and turns I couldn’t get enough. The cliff hanger makes me so sad I don’t have the next book!

Kallum and Halen are beautiful together, I enjoyed witnessing their chaos and impending doom in their communion. The story is full of philosophical and psychological references with a nod to mythology, old rituals and the esoteric. I personally love all this and I had a wild ride connecting all the dots, the lyrical writing by this talented author was the icing on the cake. I’m aware this setting is not everyone cup of tea but if you want to delve into this creepy city, you don’t need extensive knowledge of the above subjects in order to enjoy this mad ride.

Utterly insane. Joe Arden and Lucy Rivers did a p h e n o m e n a l job!! I loved this even more than the first book. Wow. I was absolutely confused, turned around in so many directions, and truly, truly have become obsessed with Kallum Locke😍🫠🫠🫠.
The way that Trisha makes you question EVERYONE is so much fun! I love that this keeps me on my toes and I continue to be wrong at every turn. The love aspect in Lovely Violent Things has the very core of what I personally go weak in the knees for with certain characters. Complete devotion, soul mates, star aligned lovers….I could go on and on…this book was an amazing read and I had the best time😍

3🌶️ the way i am obsessed with this story and these characters. omg. the twists just keep twisting and my jaw is constantly on the floor and my brain trying to keep up with what’s right and what’s going on is WILD. i’m so glad im one of those people that aren’t good at reading foreshadowing cause i literally have no idea what’s happening, ever. 😂 i LOVE our main characters, like love love love them. possessive mmc is an UNDERSTATEMENT. i’m ready to start book 3 right now

Wolfe did it again and this time it was BEYOND words.
It starts with a little flashback from Kallum's POV before taking us back into the madness that led us to theinsane cliffhanger of the first volume.
Little Halen is back on the killing fields to investigate, looking for answers, but with the new information she has come to gather & her new memories , she's torn between what to believe and begins to question her sanity.
While Kallum is determined to make sure she recalls the events that first led her to cross his path and awakened his obsession for her.
The man made it clear now so please Halen do not offend him like this ever again, this is disrespectful.
Halen and Kallum are both insane and twisted af, but THEY excite me and leave me breathless. Their chemistry reached new heights here, which led to such combustion. Halen tries so hard to escape these feelings for Kallum and keep her distance, but he knows just how to draw her back to him. This man is more dangerous than I thought. I would let him drag me to hell with him if I could get a taste. He's the devil and she's his wicked game, but what if she was the devil all along?
I have to once again appreciate the author for the amount of research and information she provided. Trisha Wolfe is just wonderful. The occult rituals, philosophical theories and twists become deeper as the story follows.

Had All the Emotions Reading This
I had a lot of emotions reading this book 😅 Friends would be able to attest, as I took breaks to verbally dump my thoughts on them. 🤣
I struggled rating this because I loved LBT the prose, characterization, philosophy and psychology. It spoke to my inner academic in a way few fictional books ever do. But LVT was lacking in certain elements that captured me in book one, it eventually regained those elements but at the end rather than a continuation throughout.
I will be a little critical here, I view these books as psychological thriller, the whole dark romance aspect means very little to me and I believe the books could be strong with the romance element eliminated or used purely to fuel the basic survival needs of blending into society. Which is why the beginning of this book with the bad boy of academia’s waning prose on his obsessive need for Halen, his expounding theory on the muse and need to not be alone or even the more basic sexual vernacular attributed to nearly every romance (dark or not) annoyed the crap out of me. It didn’t fit the psychological profile I had on his character at that point, the arc to that point wasn’t meshing with my brain.
Halen left a great deal to be desired for me, she wasn’t as sharp, there was so much less psychology and analyzation which I will admit hurt my soul until I realized the path her character was on. Which was necessary to bring the audience to realize what started these events between her and Kallum to begin with.
Sigh the “twist” it was brilliant, very brilliant. The beautiful use of psychology layered from book one into two really helped you home in on certain things if you were analyzing correctly. I wasn’t surprised, but I was happy to be proven correct in my analysis.
Trisha is a masterful writer choosing to use highbrow prose, deeply complex theories, and explore more macabre themes. She really researched her topics to develop characters and plots that challenge the reader to bring their brain and analytical skills on the journey with them. What I appreciate is her skill in getting the psychology right and presenting not from a therapeutical view or third party looking in but as if we are the afflicted ones ourselves. We feel confusion, anger, betrayal, and then justification, and peace right along with the characters.
I appreciate the depths Trisha went too for this book and hope LWT brings an epic conclusion with the philosophical, psychological, and occultist mayhem the first book ensnared me with and the second ended with.
