An action-packed, pulse-pounding story of revenge from the author of The Wolf of Corwick Castle series
Baine has spent most of his life walking in the shadows of his famous friend, Hadrack of Corwick, watching his back and keeping him safe. It’s a role that Baine has never begrudged, for he and Hadrack are bonded like brothers, forged into manhood together by the kind of tragedy and despair that could have easily destroyed weaker men. But now, after a storm sweeps him off the deck of the giant cog, Sea-Dragon , Baine must use all his strength and determination to survive while his friends, Hadrack and Jebido mourn his loss, believing him drowned. Saved from the merciless clutches of the sea by a fisherman and his young daughter, Baine must first relearn who he once was, then deal with the tragic news that his wife and baby son have been murdered.
And so begins Baine’s quest to hunt down the men responsible for the crime—a quest that will leave the north country awash in blood and a trail of bodies as a new legend is born. Baine’s time has come.

I knew going into this story that the wolf was not a main focal point . so why was I only interested when he showed up? Personally , I have become invested with Hadrack . With all the books and adventures he's been on, I guess nothing else compares. which is good if you've developed a character so strong that people relate to, bad ( for me), if you try to branch out. The writing was good and the story was action pack. I'm glad to have read it just so some of the missing pieces have been filled in.
Terry Cloutier finds a way to tell a condensed story, you might say that reflects The Nine, in a breathless and exciting way. More pathos here as he improves his craft book by book It is engaging to follow both the series story and the writer. Great read !
Although this book is compelling reading, it has only one theme, that of killing and often torture. You start with compassion for the hero but end up thinking that he is probably as bad as those he is killing.
This series has been excellent from the beginning and has maintained that excellence throughout. Baine has been an integral character throughout the series, and this volume did him justice.I look forward to the next book in the series.
