After their trip to the police station and an intimate night together, Sangwoo decides he wants to know more about Bum. Their ensuing conversation leads to a trip to the amusement park and a night of drinking and sex. This new phase of their warped relationship teeters between thrilling and unnerving, leaving Bum overjoyed one moment and panicked the next. Sangwoo is both the man of his dreams—and his nightmares…
Geez, reading this was such a roller coaster. Their relationship is incredibly toxic, but there’s something about this story that really intrigues me and keeps me flipping the pages. It’s very entertaining and hard to predict where it going next.
Sangwoo and Yoon Bum would make such a cute couple if.. you know.. everything else in the series hadn’t happened so far 😅 in this volume we see them go on dates to an amusement park, a restaurant where they get drunk together for the first time, and on a skiing trip. Yoon Bum is thrown through a literal rollercoaster of emotions here; one minute he is overjoyed by being out with Sangwoo, the next he is in the throes of anxiety due to Sangwoo’s actions - he cannot conceal his true nature for long whilst out amongst the general public. How is it possible that Sangwoo is both the man of Yoon Bum’s dreams, and his worst nightmares?
I’m just waiting with bated breath for the sixth deluxe volume now! I know I could carry on reading it online, but I’m going to wait for my physical copy :)
I always know I'm in trouble when a book opens with a dream sequence . . .
To decompress from the tension from last volume's events, Yoon Bum and Oh Sangwoo go on some dates to an amusement park and a ski slope. So they're messed up relationship is in our face the whole volume, except for those times that Oh deals with his mommy issues.
It's all sort of boring and depressing, and I don't care about any of the characters now. I'm going to set this series aside, but I might come back if I hear it has reached a conclusion.
This volume isn't as gripping as the previous one and there's quite a bit of filler, in spite of getting a glimpse into Sangwoo's messed up family.
I don't care much for the seemingly "romantic" bits, and to be honest while I don't think it's ever meant to be a life-changing, profound/solid commentary on abusive relationships, there are times where the book loses track of what's really happening and the interpretation of Sangwoo and Bum's dynamics could almost be glorified.
I feel like I've lost my way with this a little bit in this volume. What I assume are flashbacks for Sangwoo are throwing me off a little, they're not making a whole lot of sense. Maybe I'm leaving it a bit too long between volumes and I keep forgetting important things and it's causing me a problem. I'll still continue on, might as well at this point, but I'm for sure not feeling as invested as I previously was.
3★ is the rating I'm giving to the whole series. As I've read this online I'm not sure how the chapters were divided in the physical editions, so this is all the rating I'm giving and all my thoughts are going to be summed up here. So, I picked this up back after almost a year and although at first the story seemed to follow some kind of rythm, later on I lost a bit the sense of the characters. I was hoping to slowly be able to understand where they came from, but their behaviour just turned even more chaotic and unhinged and when I got to each of the backstories (although disgusting and depraved) they didn't feel like they were contributing. Sometimes the pacing felt a bit weird and some scenes with the police felt a bit too ridiculous. The end of the story is fair, but overall I'm not entirely convinced this is such a great graphic novel.
“Yeah, you’re right. Don’t trust me. It’ll only hurt you… over and over.”
Sangwoo takes Bum out on a date. The premise sound cute, but as can be expected of this series, it really is not.
This volume felt very different from the first four, which was fun. We got out of Sangwoo's house and basement and got to follow this couple, if you can call them that, in the outside world doing normal stuff, like skiing, shopping for clothes and going to an amusement park. What I enjoyed the most was how, despite the characters being in public and acting almost like a couple would, there was a constant sense of unease in every scene and whenever something happened, I worried that this would be the thing that causes Sangwoo to snap. The atmosphere was very well done. I also enjoyed seeing a new wide of Bum and Sangwoo's dynamic. This volume really hammered home how much they've developed and how it is so far from a captive/captor-dynamic.
I would say Sangwoo was at the center of this volume. The reader gets to see quite a bit of his childhood and his strange relationships with his parents, especially the very close but also highkey uncomfortable-feeling relationship he had with his mother. I like how the story is in no way trying to justify everything Sangwoo does and has done with a sad backstory. Yeah, he seems to have grown up in a rather tumultuous, difficult household, but we are not necessarily meant to feel that much for him or forgive him. Sangwoo is fucked up, as is this story, and it doesn't pretend to be something else, which I appreciate.
I am intrigued to see how this story will end. I have some ideas on what might happen, but mainly I just wanna go into the finale without theorising much cause I wanna see what Koogi has in store and be surprised and most likely more than just a bit appalled.
I'm hooked on this series. I was anxious this whole volume, because I can't trust Sangwoo. I just kept waiting for something horrible to happen!
I'm in it for the long haul, but some of these panels are hard to follow. That's usually true for me with this series, but it happened multiple times with this volume. What was the deal with Sangwoo's mom?!?!
Love that we are getting deeper looks into the characters. Honestly, this volume I had to put down a couple of times just to collect my thoughts, but as always was a great and interesting read.
I continue reading this series without knowing whether or not I like it. I can say for certain that I liked this one least of the ones I’ve read so far. It seemed like a really abrupt change, it was confusing to tell who was speaking at several points, and the ending payoff was less insane than the previous installments. Felt like a filler episode idk. I’m going to read the next one.
Ah, yes... the dates Bum have always been dreaming of... theme parks, ski, etc... sometimes I feel sorry that Bum is so down bad for Sangwoo coz atp I really don't think Sangwoo actually loves him. Also damn, Sangwoo's meeting with that lady in the ski place really shows that he himself hasn't moved on from his past.
PS. the lady's kid is so annoying PPS. I still prefer the cat-and-mouse chase vibes of KS' beginnings, instead of this pseudo-dating thing
