POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

Men whose minds are aflame with idealism gather at the Corinthe, in the center of Paris, to stage a rebellion! Marius and Valjean have an unexpected reunion at the barricades, and then part ways equally unexpectedly. The long night of revolution dawns into a morning of celebration. Paris is in a festive mood as Cosette and Marius are blissfully married. While the couple bask in their joy, Valjean withdraws into lonely darkness. But when crafty innkeeper Thénardier exposes the whole truth to Marius, what fate will befall the unfortunate Jean Valjean? Victor Hugo’s immortal hymn to the spirit of humanity reaches its climax here, in the powerful conclusion of Les Misérables !

Quite the epic conclusion to the classic book.
Plus it saves me the problem of reading that classic book.
Very enjoyable.

guys the author is an enjoltaire stan!!! i knew it.

btw this series was GENUINELY so good. if any of you have interest in the plot of les mis and want more depth/detail or content than what the musical (although it's wonderful) can provide, but you don't want to read the entire novel, or if manga's just more your speed, i do genuinely recommend this.

as les mis #1 fan (victor hugo confirmed) i hereby approve of this adaptation

Just given the nature of manga, I feel like there was some clunkiness in the progression of the narrative and Marius's PTSD/grief/survivor's guilt was downplayed. But of course the ending is gorgeous and still tear-jerking even here. What a tome, what a story. A magnum opus for sure.

Love, death, and redemption

Spanning four omnibus volumes this is the first manga based on a classic story given more then a single omnibus sized volume and as such has been able to include more than many of those manga classic volumes. As such this series offers us a visual reference to the story of a man caught stealing bread for his starving family and hardened in jail as hope was lost. With an act of compassion from a humble man however this convict now free of walls but not the judgment of society begins a journey not of hate but of compassion. Honestly being able to see the faces and gestures of the characters may cause you a variety of emotions if you have read through the series up to this point and this volume being the final is no exception.

Inspirational as it is bloody this is the end of the story for many and the beginning for others and although I don't want to say exactly how it ended I can tell you even though I knew the end it was still a powerful moment when it was covered in this volume. I am glad to see Seven Seas Publications gave this masterpiece a chance for English audiences and for those who want to see a story about trying to cast light into a dark world I seriously suggest you give this series a try. Just be aware the more sensitive readers may find themselves giving off a variety of emotional responses as the story progresses. :)

The last volume of this epic adaptation, a clear passion project if ever I saw one. Genuinely my second favorite adaptation of Les Mis, behind only the musical, and definitely the most accurate and thorough. This volume includes Le Cabuc, a character I don't think I've ever seen included in an adaptation. I loved seeing how much Arai was able to preserve from the barricade scenes, including Prouvaire's poem and parts of Enjolras's speech from The Horizon Which One Beholds from the Summit of the Barricade. Also a big fan of the visualizations that Arai used throughout. My favorite remains putting all of Javert's speech in boxes instead of bubbles, a conceit that becomes especially effective when it breaks down. I loved this adaptation so much that I don't feel at all bad about suggesting it to readers who don't have the time or attention span for the original novel. The original is better, of course, but this is extremely close.

Arai feeding the yaoi fans with that last E/R scene.
Holy shit probably the best manga series I've ever read. The art was beautiful. I was so emotional this whole last volume. The ending scenes were drawn so beautifully.
Fuck. Please read this.

Cosette and Marius are not very likeable. Oh well. A fitting conclusion to the tale of Jean Valjean.

So many book scenes, aaah!
Finally an adaption with Permets-tu in it Q---Q
The animal comparisons are still a bit annoying, but they get rarer.
