As someone who has had the life-enhancing care of Dr. Chapin for over 10 years, I can hear his voice in his writing. At his core he wants to help people - this book was born from that as a way to reach many more individuals than he could fit into his on-going one-on-one clinic appointments. He has the triple strengths of:
i) Deep understanding of the physiological, biological & bio-mechanical workings of the human body
ii) A holistic approach to the person living in that body - their lifestyle, their challenges, their goals
iii) A warm, non-judgmental, down-to-earth, supportive coaching style
... and all three come through here.
The amazing collection of "remarkable people" contributing their stories adds interest and real life examples, but Dr. Chapin's words are for everyone. From top athletes looking to squeeze out every last measure of performance, to everyday people continually working to balance competing priorities, to people with chronic ailments and/or less-than-stellar lifestyles that have almost given up on becoming their better selves, or don't even know where to start, all can find help and motivation here. Do yourself a lifetime favour and read this book.

We have known Dr. Chapin for many years. His regard for the wellbeing of others has always been very real, and it is evident as you read through his book. Thank you for this great guide to feeling better, Dwight. (Jim & Jodi Reason)

I received a complimentary advance copy of this book through LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers program.

For readers familiar with author Dr. Dwight Chapin or with the mentors he writes about herein, this book is probably very exciting and motivational. Having no prior knowledge of any of these people, however, I found myself less than enthused.

The advice given in Take Care, namely the seven “rituals” Chapin teaches, are essentially common sense practices for general health. It’s not anything new or ground breaking. These ideals are drilled into us beginning in early childhood (get plenty of sleep! eat healthy! exercise!) and the messaging persists.

I appreciate the passion Chapin has for sharing these goals with others, and I have no doubt he’s trying to change lives for the better. In reading other reviews written by his patients and colleagues, it’s clear that he’s inspirational and gifted in helping people. I appreciate the work and time he put into seeking out and interviewing the “mentors” featured here as well. I just found nothing new within this book.

All that said, 5 stars for Chapin’s heart and research; 2 stars for ingenuity and applicability.

Recommending Take Good Care as a must read in all our busy lives. I'm privileged to be a patient of Dr. Dwight's and can hear his coaching voice, from the clinic, resonating strongly and sensitively throughout this book. As a gifted practitioner he provides a thoughtful play book backed by proven science and the inspirational profiles shared by those who have committed and consciously shifted their routines through daily practice to good health. The impact on their lives and wellbeing is profound. The path to sound health is clear. Dr. Dwight lays out the challenge. Making the commitment and taking the necessary action following the pragmatic rituals is up to you to take good care

“Take Good Care” summarizes your way forward in concrete steps, creating an impactful and doable path toward healing, health and yes, increasing your own body and mind’s potential for longevity. Knowing Dr. Dwight Chapin professionally & as a friend for over 25 years, I am profoundly grateful he has put all his knowledge, expertise, and passion into this book. He creates a true sense of the means to achieve what you already know you need to do, but just need a map – filled with insights, stories, and hope to not only get your started, but get your there!

I encourage anyone who is interested in improving their health and well being to read this exceptionally user-friendly book. Dr. Chapin offers a practical blueprint for building and maintaining a healthy and happy life. In doing so, he presents the personal stories of 21 prominent professionals who reveal the unique ways they maintain their well being in the face of the stresses of everyday life.
Their stories offer the hope that it is possible for anyone to develop a wellness routine that will be life changing.

This is an absolute must read.
Dr Chapin has a unique way of making you feel heard in this book as well as calling you out on the choices you make for your health. As a man that leads by example he lays out all the tools one needs to be able to take their health into control, in the tiniest steps, without making it daunting. He makes it manageable. He's able to blend scientific knowledge and personal anecdotes that will inspire just about anyone to make the tiniest step forward to improve their health.
Read this.

Dr. Chapin does a wonderful job of taking complicated scientific concepts and distilling them down into easy to understand material. I love the plethora of useful tips spread throughout the book. If you take just some of the recommendations to heart, you will see a noticeable improvement in your health.
The stories of the mentors were inspiring and interesting to read. Definitely an enjoyable book that I would recommend.

Just reading this makes you want to be a better person. You can't help but feel like anything is possible after just a few chapters. Definitely worth the read if you're looking for motivation.
