She's the daughter of my ex-military buddy, scared, and in need of protection. When a stalker threatens to take her life, I could lose my sweet girl before I ever get the chance to make her mine.
***
Duke When my best friend, Mickey, gets remarried and leaves to enjoy his honeymoon, he made me swear to look after his daughter, Allie. I didn’t tell him that I can’t take my eyes off her even if I tried. She’s a fully grown woman now at 25 years old but she's still thirteen years younger than me. And Mickey would bury me alive if he knew I was thinking about his daughter that way. So I keep my distance, even though it kills me to do it.
Then Allie calls me in the middle of the night, terrified. Someone is stalking her, invading her private life with threatening messages.
I will do everything in my power to keep her safe, relying on my military background to protect her. What I’m not prepared for is the way danger and adrenaline ramp up the sexual tension between us, making it impossible to deny my feelings for her.
Allie My dad’s best friend, Duke, is like an uncle to me, buff, broody, and protective. I didn’t want to tell Dad about the stalker in the middle of his wedding plans, but I’m so grateful to have Duke watching my back.
After a close call with my stalker leaves me shaken, I find myself taking refuge in Duke’s arms. I’m not blind to the way he looks at me though. It’s more than mild fondness. He’s obsessed with me in a way he’s trying so hard to hide.
One hot, wild night is all it takes for our self-control to dissolve, tumbling between the sheets together. When I finally have Duke in my bed, I know it’s more than a temporary fling in the heat of the moment. I’m in love with my dad’s best friend forever.
What am I going to tell my dad? And now that Duke is in my life as more than just an impromptu bodyguard, will that paint a target on his back for my stalker, too?

* Good book for in-between serious reads 😅 * age gap (25 h /38 H) * little bit of danger, she has a creepy stalker, not the hot kind of one, haha * he instantly enters into protective mode * little bit of drama with her father, but he turns around and is accepting, eventually * spicy, as it can be for a short read that also has some plot, not only spice * HEA (read the bonus chapter for their extended HEA) * was a freebie on amazon, yay
I love Duke and Allie! And whilst this is supposed to be a 'forbidden' romance because he is her dad's best friend, it is not quite as bad as that sounds, because whilst we are not given her dad's age and although they served together for 15 years Mickie is actually older than Duke as Duke is only 13 years older than Allie. They work so well as a couple as Allie keeps Duke on his toes with her sass and playful banter and he worships her and her body exactly as she needs. A beautiful romance which I read on Kindle Unlimited.
Protecting Allie, part of the Dad's Best Friend series, was about 25-year-old Allison "Allie" Larsen and 38-year-old Jeremiah "Duke" Colter, the owner of a construction company.
Being her father's military BFF, Duke had known Allie all her life, and she'd had a crush on him for most of that time. So when her father asked him to keep an eye on Alie while he was away on his honeymoon, Duke had no problem doing so. They stayed late after the reception, only for him to follow her home to ensure she made it safely. In the wee hours of the morning, his phone rang, alerting him that she was calling. Thinking she had forgotten something, he answered with a laugh, only to tense up when he heard the fear in her voice when she said she thought someone was in her home. After rushing to her place, Duke learned someone had placed a threatening note on her dining table. Once he had checked her apartment to make certain they were alone, he found out from her that she had received similar notes for the past two months and that the police had not done anything about them when she reported it to them.
After convincing him that she needed to keep to a regular schedule, Duke followed Allie to work and stayed close to monitor things. He took her to lunch but when they returned, the stalker had appeared while they were gone and had left another note on the work counter, an ugly surprise. Duke called the police, and after she let the cop know he was the same one she had reported the other incidents to, Duke made certain that they did something about it this time.
While there was more than enough angst and drama to please the biggest critic, the book felt incomplete and full of unresolved issues. There was not enough backstory for any of the characters, especially none for the stalker. There was one, very brief explanation as to why she was targeted, but other than that, the stalker was still a complete mystery.
Both of the main characters were fully developed, fleshed out, and mature. Although there was some growth made between them, the book was too short for things to have time to develop further. It just felt so incomplete and lacking too much for a truly good book. I thought it only merited a two-and-a-half star rating, but I rounded it up to three.
• Story/Plot: 📖📖📖 /5 • Characters: 🫂🫂🫂🫂 • Drama/Angst: 😰😰😰 • Steam: 🔥🔥 • POV: Dual • HEA? ✔️ • Would I re-read? ✔️ • Epilogue? No • NOTE: there’s a bonus short story, but you have to sign up for newsletter
I liked this story. It was a little short for my tastes in a novella, but I still enjoyed it 😊
The FMC has known the MMC her whole life. Her dad just got married and is going on his honeymoon so the FMC doesn’t want to bother her dad about a stalker. After he goes on his trip, the stalker escalates and the FMC calls the MMC as she’s terrified and needs his help.
The FMC has always been like an uncle who scares away all her boyfriends along with her dad, but he’s been seeing the FMC as something new.
There’s loads of drama and a scary stalker. The MMC is super caring and protective. There’s a bit of angst of him refusing to give in to his desires because of guilt. I love that the FMC is the one to make a move!
I liked all the characters. The MMC has some complexity in his character despite the shortness of the story.
I do wish there was a little more story and a little more steam. I’m all for more than one romantic scene 😉 I think another chapter or two, one before the climax of the story and one afterward, we’ll before the 2 years later in the short story. A lot of authors gloss over the HEA, where there’s a lot more that can be covered.
With that said, it’s a good novella and if you love a good dad’s best friend story, you’ll enjoy this quick read!.

🌶🌶🌶 3 chili peppers - what sort of wizardry was involved to wedge a slow burn romance into a novel this short?! The payoff was worth the wait, but the slow burn butterflies don't contribute to my personal chili pepper scale. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars for pace, plot, character development, quality of writing, and just how damn hooked on this story I was. This was a yell-at-my-husband-for-making-noise-while-I-read read. 😬
Okay, listen. These are not my tropes (except maybe the motorcycle), but the writing in this is ON POINT! I don't have as much time for reading right now, so I was looking for a great short romance to keep me engaged when I do have a moment. I gobbled this one up in under 2 hours!
I can't overstate how well-written this was. In short romance, short fantasy, or novellas in general, I find that there tends to be too much backstory or not nearly enough for the amount of emotional investment the author is trying to create for readers. It very rarely works. Not only did Bell nail that balance here, but I picked this up out of sequence and can absolutely vouch for it as a standalone! Now I have added this entire series to my TBR and honestly, I'd read anything by Audrey Bell without hesitation.
✔️ Age Gap Romance ✔️ He's her Dad's Best Friend ✔️ Suspense ✔️ 🔥
🅼🆈 🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆:
This one was a great quick read having flavours of sweetness and spiciness with wanting the forbidden and hints of suspense.
Duke has watched Allie from afar and knows he wants her so much but he knows nothing can come out of it as she doesn't see him that way.
Now that Allie's father is away for some time and Duke is asked to keep an eye on Allie for safety purpose, never did he imagine the danger Allie was in.
Allie is scared after things start escalating and turning to Duke is the only option and she's glad to have his safe arms around him.
But soon she starts seeing her dad's friend in a very different light. That scene where Allie turns and sees a freshly showered Duke with only holding a towel to his front and his butt on display was so freaking hot and on fire. 🌶️♨️🔥
Duke and Allie were equal terms Sweetness and equal terms fire chemistry. With a touch of suspense, this was one forbidden & Delicious ride. 🔥❤️
All The Single Ladies... Duke (MMC), a single bachelor nearing 40, sees Allie (FMC), who is 25, at his best friend and former military buddy’s wedding. Allie happens to be the daughter of his best friend, though.
After talking and dancing together, Duke realizes how attracted he is to Allie and how wrong it is, so he dismisses it. Later that evening, Allie calls Duke because she believes she may have had a stalker for the past two months due to several clues. Duke decides to investigate by staying as close as possible to Allie. But by doing this, their attraction can no longer be denied.

Duke’s best friend, Mickey, is getting remarried. But he asks Duke to keep watch over his 25-year-old daughter for her safety. Allie hadn’t wanted to tell her dad that she has some sort of stalker who is threatening her. But when the stalker takes action against her in the middle of the night, she calls Duke immediately. Duke has kept his feelings for her hidden. But rushing to her defense, he is having trouble keeping his desire hidden. The way he looks at her, however, lets her know how he really feels. They end up in bed together and both realize this is not just a simple fling. How will Mickey react to their relationship? Can Duke keep her safe? Will he be able to take down her stalker?
I loved Protecting Allie: a dad's best friend, age gap, ex-military, steamy short romance. Allie has a stalker and now it’s getting serious. She calls Duke, star of her fantasies and her fathers best friend. He doesn’t look at her like that or does he? This was a short and sweet suspenseful love story. The characters are so likable and I just loved the storyline. Allie is independent and cares about others while Duke is the ex-military alpha male who will do anything to protect Allie. I would definitely recommend this book.

This was a great addition to this forbidden age-gap series! I have never read this author but I already downloaded another of her books since I loved this one so much.
The FMC has a stalker which I guess is the ‘plot’ of the story (you know, besides hooking up with dads best friend….). Anyway there’s at least 1 misleading character (could this be the stalker???), BUT ITS NOT!! The stalker is a complete surprise and the guy is a total whacko. He went from ‘gotta have you- your mine’ to ‘I’m gonna cut a b*tch’ so quick it didn’t even make sense to me. That storyline / stalker could have been fleshed out a bit more because it felt really irrelevant for a several-months-long-stalker plot line.
Allie has a stalker and doesn't tell her father because he is getting ready to get married and she doesn't want to intrude on the happy time. After he leaves on his honeymoon, the stalker breaks in to her apartment and leaves her a note. She's scared and calls Duke, her dad's best friend. Duke has wanted Allie for a long time and hasn't acted on it due to her father and the age difference. What happens now? Can he keep her safe?.

Duke's best friend has just gotten married again and he asked him to look out for his daughter when he is on his honeymoon. Even Duke is fighting his feelings for Allie, there is no way he could let Mickey down. When Allie tells him she has a stalker there is no way he is going to leave her alone.
The more time he spends with Allie the harder it is to resist her. What will he best friend do if he crosses the line?.

Allie’s dad just got remarried and left for his honeymoon, so when Allie needs protection from a stalker, she turns to Duke. He will protect her, but he has trouble keeping his feelings for her a secret. When they give in, will that lure the stalker out of the dark? And how will her dad react? Protecting Allie is a forbidden, age gap romance. Duke used to serve with her father, but he is younger than her father. The man was fighting his feelings just to keep her safe and for wanting to remain his friendship with her father.
Parts of this story worked well for me and parts I felt needed a little development, I'm going to focus on what worked for me. I enjoyed Allie and Duke, I thought they were good characters and that they had good connection and chemistry. I liked the fact that I was suprised at one point and I liked seeing their relationship develop and be strong.

If you love short, steamy age gap then Audrey Bell definitely has you covered with Duke & Allie's story. Their connection is undeniably hot but forbidden. He's best friend's with her dad. When her stalker problem ramps up Duke is there to protect her & the sexual tension that's been building erupts. What will her Dad say & when will the stalker strike next?.

Tropes Age gap Dads best friend Protection Steamy Passion
Spice 🌶 4/5
Duke and Allie book was oh so full of action and steam. Allie found herself in a trouble and her dad's best friend is there to give her protection, the world of this book was so good, so full of passion and twists and turns. It was so beautiful written and it's for sure that it's not gonna be last book of Audrey bell. Thank you give me more for this arc
Another short and sweet with a dash of stalker in the mix story! The premise was a bit too much like another book in the series (the whole stalker part), but it was still a nice read. I definitely didn’t guess who the stalker was, and to be honest, it was way too random, but it was still a shock. I also didn’t really see the chemistry between the characters, so that was a bit of a bummer for me. But at the end of the day, it was a nice read that you can for sure enjoy!
Audrey Bell created a fantastic story here. There was a little romance, a little taboo, a little mystery all packed into this novella. Duke tries to do the right thing and not be in love with his best friend's daughter, but that goes flying out the window when Allie admits she has a stalker. Of course Duke does everything in his power to protect her. The steamy scenes were steamy and the plot was never sacrificed.
Well written, it kept my interest. We know early in the story just what Duke feels for Allie. But we have to wait to find out her real thoughts about Duke.
In very short order, you understand the depths of her trust for him. Then gradually, her awareness of him as a man.
I read this cover to cover, and will do so again. It is one of those with details you might miss, but find when you read it again. Two thumbs up!
With her father, about to get married Allie didn’t want to ruin his wedding and upcoming honeymoon by telling him she had a stalker. So she kept it to herself until the stalker broke into her house, and then she called his best friend, the one that was supposed to be looking after her, while her father was out of town. Duke has had feelings for Allie since she’s been of age but with it being his best friend’s, daughter, he hasn’t gone there. When she calls him freaked out all bets are off. Can he keep her safe? What will her father say when he comes back into town? Will they catch the stalker?
I loved Allie and Duke! They were perfect together! I loved how they came together, this one has some steaminess to it and it was great! Her dad’s reaction was priceless. I can’t wait to read the bonus short story. Great work!.

I loved this short story! Dad's best friend friend is one of my favorite tropes.
Allie & Duke didn't have feelings for each other until recently. I loved how Duke was there for Allie. Everything seemed believable and loved how Allie's Dad just loved his little girl.
I really enjoyed reading this story. They both wanted each other, but she thought he thought she was too young, while he thought about his friendship with her father and being too jaded for her. True love will always win, because it was meant to be. Get the Bonus Story. It what happens after, and is truly a bonus.
Allie has a creep leaving her messages, and when her dad goes out of town, in comes the best friend. Duke has been crushing on her for a while, and secretly, so has she. I loved this one! Also the author has a really great name! Spicy Age Gap $talker Ex-Military / tattooed biker
Allie has set her sights on her father's best friend Duke. When Duke gets wind that Allie is in danger he takes the threat seriously and will do everything he can to protect her forever. This is a slow burn, sexy story.
